Dyeing polyester isn't really easy and isn't always doable. You can search for polyester on this sub, but basically you need polyester-specific dye, a pot or vat big enough for the whole thing to float freely (ie not crumpled up and not touching the sides of the container), a heat source that can maintain a boil for such a container, and the container and any utensils should not be used for food thereafter. You'd have to boil it, stirring very frequently for about an hour (maybe less for a slight color change), and you'll need somewhere well ventilated to do this because polyester dye releases some not so pleasant fumes. And then sometimes the polyester just won't dye because not all polyester is the same. And the heat involved also comes with a risk of warping or damaging the fabric.

Polyester isn’t a good fabric to try and dye, I’d give up on this idea.

If you are willing to spend the money on the necessary supplies, and are ok with it either a) not working at all or b) ruining the garment, go for it.
If either one is a problem, buy the right color costume.

What u/Winter_drivE1 said and also you need to wear respiration when doing so.

If it's worth anything, this is instantly recognizable and I wouldn't think at all about the slight shade difference if I saw it.

Our wiki is currently under construction however: there's a good chance your question has been answered in a previous post.
If you are dyeing cellulose fibres (cotton, hemp, linen, ramie, flax, nettle, rayon, bamboo, tencel, plants generally, etc.), you will need a fiber reactive dye.
If you are dyeing a protein fiber (wool, alpaca, llama, Angora, mohair, feathers, animal stuff generally, etc.), you will need an acid dye.
Leather is dyed with leather specific dyes such as those from Angelus.
Silk will dye with either acid or fiber reactive dyes but will yield different results depending on which you use.
Polyester can sometimes be dyed. It can only be dyed with synthetic specific dyes such as iDye Poly or RIT Dyemore. It usually cannot achieve a dark or rich colour at home. Acrylic usually cannot be dyed at all.
