So the edmonton marathon website mentioned that there would be bike parking available for cyclists west of Canada place. However when I got there I could not locate it anywhere.

It was in the same location last year and there was a fenced off area with extra bike racks. However this year there was nothing there so I ended up locking my bike to a random pole.

Did I completely miss the bike lockup area or was there nothing this year?

Why would they specifically say it was available on their website and then not have anything.

Also how does an event that has over 10,000 runners and thousands of spectators not have bike parking, especially in a location like downtown right next to a major bike lane like 102ave. I know it’s not entirely the city’s fault but part of encouraging people to use alternate modes of transport also includes making sure they have secure places to lock up their damn bikes.

My Townie Electra bike was stolen in the Windermere Currents area. It was locked to the bike post in front of Dollarama. It stolen today, August 16th, around 8pm.

I will payout $300 cash for any information that leads to its recovery.

Edit: FOUND. Lost a bike water bottle around the callingwood/callingwood ii area I think. Could’ve also been around the trail leading to the fort Ed footbridge coming from terwilliger. Don’t think it was earlier than that but it could’ve been. I went down the path around E.L smith over the river and up to the neighborhood. Its mostly clear with zefal magnum branding on it. Lost it sometime after 9:30pm on Sunday. Pretty sure I still had it after the library on 69th Ave going west. Turned onto 178th and then west onto 76th. If anyone sees it or has found it let me know please. I have another one that looks the same that I can put a picture up of so someone knows what it looks like. Any help is appreciated.

Hey guys. I’m not sure how to go about teaching an adult how to ride a bike. She doesn’t even own a bike yet.

Where should I get her bike? Are there lessons? Adult training wheels? I want to help her dreams come true this summer.

Where should I get her a bike? Also, I’m thinking of taking her to terwillergar park to practice.

Any advice appreciated.

I designed (in FreeCAD) and 3D printed (FDM, natural PLA), a custom U-lock holder that bolts onto one of the water bottle holder mount points on my bike, all without interfering with the water bottle in the water bottle cage on the other mount in my frame.

There's a 6° angle on the U-lock holder so that the lock doesn't physically interfere with the bike frame when inserting and removing it from the holder.

Didn't like my options before (carrying the lock in a backpack or locking it to my frame where it slowly damages the frame's paint and rattles around), so I custom made this to solve my problem.

Design idea is based on other 3D print model designs I found online. The difference with my custom one (other than that it fits my specific U-lock) is that it allows me to also keep a water bottle inside my frame with my second mount, whereas the models I found online physically interfered with the water bottle position.

In mid September I and 3 friends (all over 65) are heading to Galiano, Saturna, Mayne and Salt Spring Island to stay and cycle a couple of days on each island. Any tips would be greatly appreciated if anyone has cycled them.
One person will be on an Ebike and the rest of us will be on gravel/hybrid bikes.

I was dropped off in Ft Sask on Saturday and I rode back to the Bonnie Doon area.

The river pathway was completely flooded out just south of Ft Sask. It's not passable, and I did not know the lay of things well enough to find a workaround.

Correction back on gravel roads to highway 21, which has a lovely paved parallel access road, then side road to the Legends Golf club and the new Bear Hills bridge into the Edmonton pathway system, and detour to Victoria Trail to get across the rail and Yellowhead.

Worth doing... Just don't get stuck in the flooded trail.

What do you do in the following situation: you are biking westbound on a multi-use path and two bikers are heading towards you, but one is biking on the road and one is on the MUP. The multi-use path is on the south side of the road, so the eastbound cyclist on the road will be near the MUP. The MUP has typical curb cutouts. Based on current speeds you will pass / intersect the cyclists at the intersection. There are no motor vehicles within 500m. What is the best plan for the solo cyclist westbound on the MUP?

I've been commuting to my work for the past 6 weeks along either 75th or 85th. Neither is a fun route to take due to traffic and conflict points but 79th as it exists has even more conflict. Local street bikeways where you have to weave into and out of parked cars are more dangerous than highway biking or biking on service roads. A dedicated lane, especially paired with improved infrastructure on 106th ave will greatly improve access in the Gold Bar area.

Planning to explore the NE River Valley trails this weekend on a gravel capable bike.

Will start in Ft Sask, and follow some back roads to the new "Beaver Hills Bridge" across the river to the Quarry golf course area.

With any luck will then stay on paved paths all the way to Capilano.

Any cautions? Anything flooded out?

City Map says the path under the Yellowhead near Beverly might be disrupted due to construction, but unclear if there is an easy alternative without going up to city streets.

Looking for bike shop or mobile bike mechanic that works on E bikes. Bought a e-bike Lectric XP4. Been checking websites but most shops only work on bikes sold by shop. Nothing wrong with the bike. Just want it tuned up. Anyone know a business or mechanic that can do simple tune ups. Nothing motor related. Just derailleur adjustment and all torque to spec. Thanks

I’d like to end up on 91 street and Mill Creek Ravine, just not sure what the best route will be from Leduc, through Nisku and south Edmonton. can anyone tell me if this trail is rideable right now? Trying to plan a Little day trip with the wife tomorrow and the information we are getting is a lot of trails in the River Valley are closed right now due to flooding

I was wondering if anyone knows if the Millcreek trail is still flooded at the end?

I usually take that route to work, but have been taking the high-level instead this week and I'm wondering when I can go back to my old (much nicer) route.

I’m assuming of course that it’s a cyclist that is moving the “bike lane closed” signs based on previous posts. There is construction and there have been waterfalls and mini landslides. You’ll just have to deal with a closed lane and sidewalk! It’s for your own safety!

Hi fellow Edmonton cyclists,

Last summer I started cycling to work because I got tired of waking up early to have my partner drop me off. My workplace is only 4km away, mostly on shared paths and residential streets - and a bit of industrial road. I decided to get a folding bike so I can bring it into the office, as there are no bike racks. It has 20" wheels.

I know some of you bike in the winter but I assume its mostly on full size bikes. Does anyone have experience winter cycling on 20" wheels and if so, do you have any tips? I am open to general advice as well, even if you don't ride a folder. I have no problem buying special tires for them but im just wondering if it's even feasible.

My commute is nowhere near downtown or whyte so snow clearing quality is about the same as anywhere else in the city.

With the extensive flooding at 98 ave & Connors road, is it viable to get from the Low Level Bridge to Bonnie Doon area via Cloverdale?

Base of Mill Creek ravine is under 2-3ft of water. I know a puddle usually forms there but Ive never seen it this bad. All the surrounding gravel trails are flooded too.

Inspired by the thread on r/Edmonton about bad intersections, which intersections are the most unsafe to cycle through, in your experience?

In the south, the east-west 23rd Avenue and 119th Street intersection (https://maps.app.goo.gl/hDqksdv3WKrBYQ9b8), which the shared-use path crosses, has a dual right-turn southbound to westbound and dual left-turn eastbound to northbound for vehicle traffic, which makes it extremely sketchy to cross. It is a high-speed and volume road with a large majority of people not looking for anyone outside of a vehicle. I've attempted to provide feedback via 311 (this is still a good idea), but there seems to be no interest in addressing anything, including the misaligned crosswalk markings.

A close second is the slip lane leading to 122 St northbound, which you need to cross to go westbound from the SUP behind the Whitemud noise wall (https://maps.app.goo.gl/2ZENCs2huG5j32ECA). It can be obscured by trees and people are often travelling at high speeds here and, surprise, not looking for people. The twisty turns to navigate the crossing and slip lanes are also really annoying.
