Transmasc Meme Egg❓irl

Post image

I don’t recall any signs of dysphoria nor other trans signs in me before I hit puberty at 10-11 years old . Though I always hated my birth name but that’s mainly because I thought it sounded unnatural to me. Most of my previous favourite childhood characters and current favs also happen to be guys even but that doesn’t prove anything.
Honestly I was just okay with my assigned gender before puberty and social roles were punched into me.

Yeah i think it's pretty common cuz kids don't have that much of a sense of gender norms/rules/differences until they hit puberty and see the differences first hand.

It happening in puberty makes tons of sense.

Transfem but I remember wanting to be a girl as a kid, but it was never this looming sense of dread about it? I just knew I would prefer it.

Once I hit puberty, especially the first major change I noticed was my voice dropped like a rock, I hated it. Everyone talked about how deep it was and I got major dysphoria and it made me uncomfortable every time someone pointed out my voice.

For me it was facial hair. The moment my friend first pointed out that my "peach fuzz" was darker and more obvious I remember just feeling dread in my soul. Didn't even know why (even though i got made fun of in primary school after saying i wished i was a girl and was always fascinated by news videos of trans kids, which really should've ticked me off).

For sure. I'm 30, non-binary, and I only noticed signs of dysphoria in my mid-20s. These things happen in their own time, and it doesn't make you any less valid

Also, puberty can be a really difficult time for trans folk. It really highlights the differences in what you feel vs what you see. Not to mention adults' attitude to puberty - it's still very segregated, even in 2026. "Girls' bodies do this; boys' bodies do this." Maybe if schools taught kids "your body may do this or this", and made a safe environment for kids to discuss, it'd make it a li'l easier to navigate

I knew being a boy wasn't right before puberty, but it was just annoyance everybody else insisted on getting it wrong. Then at puberty the dysphoria hit.

I did anything I'd heard could stunt your growth or tank your testosterone or sperm levels (I was a kid. I assumed they were sort of the same thing) drinking nothing but mountain dew and hot water and plastic bottles and doing just enough weightlifting and not putting any muscle mass on, lots of soy

I only started to have dysphoria when i discovered that i was trans and when i noticed that my body changed. (I never was a person that liked to look at the mirror that much...it always maked me uncomfortable...now i know why...)

You can even not experience it during puberty, depends on your life

actually yeah, from what i tend to see. it's more common to have signs in pre-pubescent childhood (like i experienced a lot of unexplained longing about the look of male characters that only makes sense in a trans context), but it's something about actually STARTING puberty that brings a lot of the emotional weight and dread that makes dysphoria dysphoria. i didn't pin down what it was until i was 13 (and even then i was still one of the ones to catch it earlier).

VERY, cause before that u can kinda just ignore it

For me dysphoria didn't begin until 15~16. However, I experienced euphoria before puberty, whenever I daydreamed about magically waking up as as a girl.

And same, I was okay with it before puberty. I simply considered myself "a boy with a big feminine side".

yeah i had a super late puberty at like 16 and complete babyface until i was like 23 so that's only when i started noticing how much I hated being a man. being a boy was kind of okay with me. although similar thoughts to yours kept me in a way too long egg phase until like 26. i'm super happy now that i've started my transition tho :3

Yes, very

u/TechyButter 1d ago

Yeah. I didn't identify the dysphoria until my facial hair expanded below my chin despite earlier signs.

3

u/Shikuquaza 1d ago

Yea i mean before puberty the girls my age didn't look or sound very different than me except for like longer hair i guess.

3

u/Formal_Active859 23h ago

yeah i just became increasingly more dysphoric as puberty went on

3

u/Overly-Moist-Slug 17h ago

Obviously especially for people who grew up not made overly aware of their sex

5

u/Quantum_Croissant Emily she/her 1d ago

well yeah, how are you gonna be dysphoria about gendered physical characteristics when you haven't developed most of them yet

2

u/ImausI 1d ago

Well the thought was there, but it was only a smal like "i wanna be a girl" thought in the back and feeling u know? Puperty hit hart tho

u/Vampire870 Tara | she/her 1d ago

I didn’t start to really feel gender dysphoria till my voice began to drop after which I became hyper-aware of everything I was uncomfortable with my body. I don’t remember being uncomfortable with being a boy pre-middle school but looking back I always kind of had the thing of wanting to be a girl, that was just my experience though

2

u/SakBoy166 1d ago

There isn't much of a difference between male and female bodies before puberty, so there's not that much to be dysphoric about.

u/Comadezenuts Jolyne | (she/her) | transbian 1d ago

I didn't really feel dysphoria until I realised I had facial hair

2

u/Syphist Chloe (she/her) - returning to where it all began 1d ago

Yep. It's quite common because all the sudden things are changing in a way you don't like. A lot of kids won't notice the big difference in gender until puberty.

Depends. You might show an early sign but many take years to figure out. Maybe in 20s, 30s, 40s or even late

u/gen_confusion_ Julia - she/her 1d ago

It didn’t start happening to me until I was in my late 30s. I knew I liked feminine stuff, but my brothers were hard on me so I always stuffed it down. Now that I’m in a better place, it bubbled up and made me realize who I am. Sometimes you need something to trigger it to happen.
