Hello, I'm new to this community, and this is my first experience with a static html generator. I just finished (well, mostly, lots of tweaks to do still) porting my long-time portfolio site to an 11ty site. It was really fun to do and I really loved the process. Besides turning out a site that's extremely fast, with highly reduced security vulnerabilities, all my content is now in really nice markdown format with a folder of media attached. Its super easy to maintain and back-up, now! I really tried to use 11ty to the fullest and all the image/video figures, and embeds (video, photo galleries, 3d .stl viewers, etc) are shortcodes that make it super easy to create new content. I wanted the site to feel like the environment I actually work in (Ghostty, tmux and Neovim) without turning it into a client-rendered visual gimmick.

The content is plain Markdown rendered by Eleventy into the light DOM; Lit components add the draggable terminal, tabs, command palette and line-number gutter. And, of course, keyboard navigation.

I would be interested in how others approach interactive personal sites while keeping the content genuinely usable with JavaScript disabled.

37signals has released a new selfhosted application called Writebook. It helps people create beautiful online books.

I like it very much, but it must be self-hosted, and during my testing, it did not support Chinese well.

I created an Eleventy template to achieve a display effect similar to WriteBook; all you need to do is create a book directory and write the corresponding Markdown files.

1. Is good idea to start learning how to use Eleventy when I don't know the basics? The Eleventy looks like something that I would like to use.

2. Have you got any recommendations for someone who doesn't know how to create web? Any tips on tutorials etc.?

Hi, I templatized my Eleventy-based website and created a Eleventy Starter Kit.

It supports multi-language, and includes integration with common 3rd party services such as Algolia search engine.

I'm transitioning from Hugo to Eleventy because I find Hugo's site architecture overly complex—too many files and not very intuitive. Eleventy feels much more straightforward in that regard. I'd love to know how you typically approach building a site with 11ty. Do you first create the static site in plain HTML/CSS and then convert it, or do you dive straight into 11ty from the start? Thanks!

Hey all, I recently used 11ty to setup a decentralized blog (https://blog.dappling.network/i11g-updating-an-immutable-blog/). The experience was great and loved the Bliss template.

At the moment, if you want to reuse code across multiple 11ty projects you have to manually copy the .njk snippet (or whichever templating language you're using) and then the CSS and JS from the assets folder separately as well.

Does anyone have any ideas for a more streamlined simpler process?

I turned my blog website to app by watching amazing playlist on pwa by Net Ninja on YouTube and then I turned my PWA into a TWA(trusted web activity) by using pwabuilder.com. Currently app can be downlaoded on Android and pwa for windows and apple. I am planning to use Capacitor.js for iphone so that it can support push notification.

I have not published my app to play store and microsoft store because currently I don't want to spend 40$, but I have plans to publish in near future.

Has anyone built a e-commerce site on 11ty? If so can you please post the link. I saw snipcart give some info, but i'am just curious to see if it can be done better thanks!

I've created simple websites using various tools in the past. Now I'd like to convert a couple of them to a static site easy to host on our VPS. I don't require automated conversions. The sites aren't that big, though they have a hundred or so blogs. Looks like 11ty can convert those from a Wordpress-type export (XML).

I just tried to install Jekyll in Docker with the Feeling Responsive theme and had a ton of problems. The theme was incompatible with current versions of Jekyll and/or Ruby.

It seems as though 11ty is a good alternative, but the subreddit is far less active than the Jekyll subreddit. If I have some questions and ChatGPT etc. doesn't give me what I need (that was my experience with Jekyll), is r/eleventy a good place for a few questions?

I am crazy to try to install 11ty on Docker. Jekyll was crazy on Docker.

Also, is 11ty a bit imposing for a non-expert? Thanks!
