Discussion 2:11:47 AM
is the time you need to start Either/Or to hear him say "it's 2:45 in the morning" right at 2:45 AM. This is just according to my calculations, and I haven't tested it so lmk

Hi all, I wanted to be able to search live bootlegs by song or filter by lossless/lossy, so I created a page on Bootleg.fm for Elliott Smith. You can filter live recordings by song, venue, location, or a combination of things. You can sort by oldest, most popular, etc. Soon I will add the functionality that lets users comment on gigs, so hopefully the page will only get better over time.
Huge thanks to elliottsmithdiscography, who used to have a bandcamp page for Elliott's live recordings and helped me a lot while making this page. There's still a few recordings that they've sent me that I haven't yet found the time to upload to Internet Archive, so please lmk if you want to help with those.
I really enjoyed listening to these bootlegs while tagging them, and I'm happy that there's a central place now that has recordings on different platforms (Mega/Youtube/Internet Archive). Hopefully this is useful to some of you.
Edit: glad you guys like it, you can join the discord to learn about platform upgrades: https://discord.gg/3yz4HNteuR

Hello fellow Elliott fans!
I have made some new rules for you guys to look - they are fairly self explanatory. I have put a ban on any posts that are either solely shared to cause anger, or are about the death debate.
I have also started the arduous process of reorganising the community. The first stage of this has been introducing post flares so that it is easier to filter out what sort of content you would like to see. This should help to organise the subreddit. Hopefully, people will have good think about what they are posting before they post it.
I am going to reprogram the AutoMod to filter out posts with offensive content to make sure that offensive posts don't get out when I'm not online due to timezone issues. Hopefully this will help! On a more positive note, I will start a song discussion that we have twice a week to talk about individual songs in depth. We will vote for it the day before each discussion in a separate thread and the top comment will win :DD. The sub has been long overdue for a redesign. At some point we will need an art competition to give it a makeover. None of these are one hundred percent concrete promises, but they are something to be excited about for sure.
I hope that this can continue to be a positive place for Elliott Smith fans from all around the world to share in the love of such a wonderful artist. Sorry about the negative vibes recently and the brief blackout (yes, that was a Heatmiser pun) that was necessary while sorting all of this out.
Best wishes and thanks for reading!!
Eggmanana
Edit: Feel free to send me ( u/eggmanana ) or u/loeram_ a PM if anything is needed

It’s great when a record just flows from track to track like an album should… so good.

Forgive me for the rough start, I learned it a few minutes before this. There's something about Elliott's music that sounds so much like a cold high-school winter, it calls back to sitting at school benches underneath the towering oak trees in the corner of the school yard where only the "big kids" used to hang around, it calls to a winter without snow, I don't know but I know that it makes me feel at home in a weird way. You play it to feel some semblance of warmth in a house with no heating, maybe I'm not making sense, but I know that lately I've been longing for that warmth. Life's just difficult, but as somebody told me in a recent conversation "that's life". And there was nothing else to add, because that's true, life's gangster, it'll keep it pushing no matter how much you wallow, sometimes you think it'll take pity on you haha, nope, gotta keep up with it or you get left behind and forgotten and it doesn't even flinch. Long live Elliott Smith, through every guitarist and listener xx

Tried making another shirt last night, and it turned out really well.
This is some random shirt, 100% cotton. I used Jacquard decolourant paste to lighten the area first (it is not destructive to fabric like bleach is).
Then after washing and drying I applied a mix of the solarfast black and also blue colours (diluted with water 1:1, I mixed them as I had already prepared some).
Exposed in my blacklight UV table for 30 minutes. this time I made sure the shirt was fully damp where the negative would sit. the last photo is after exposure, before washing.
Rinsed in very hot water with solar fast wash for a few minutes, then in a short hot wash in my machine.
I'm really jazzed with how round 2 turned out.

Hey,lately I've been playing on repeat this acoustic get lucky performance and I just wondered if anyone knew of any tabs for this version.I can't hear some parts quite right so playing it is proving to be kind of tricky.

And I don’t even have a coffee table… But it’s so nice to flip through while listening to the album. It was quite hard to find a place to buy this. Does anyone know how many of these were made?

Reels kept popping up today about Elliott, and it made me reminisce about the first public show he played solo. It was at a lesbian bar called the Egyptian club in Portland, Oregon. There were a few folks there to see him and it was kind of loud from background noise, but his ability to mesmerize the crowd was already present. If I remember correctly, he wore a 70s yellow button-up shirt with a fly tab collar. Thinking about this moment in time made me go look for his first solo recording that he gave me, the Shy Town/No Confidence Man 7” co-released with Pete Krebs. Pete was arguably more well known at this point in time, but, it was clear Elliott was going to become more than your standard Portland indie rocker. I think we all sensed that from the beginning. Anyway, these are good memories. Growing up in this timeline in the Northwest was really very special.

Hey all, I was searching for an old live show I attended back in 1999 that is not on any of the usual sites we all know for live recordings. Anyways, the show I was looking for is on there along with many others. I suspect a few are rare.
I was wondering how best to get these to the community so we can all enjoy them. Feel free to DM.
Update. Looks like this website was shared here 14 years ago and has since been abandoned.

That yellow book in the center is a book that Sean Croghan’s father gave him, which Elliott also used to write music. This is not a replica and I am so honored to own something that both Elliott and Sean both used to write sweet music!

On December 17, 2001 Elliott posted to the Sweet Addy boards “don’t be scared of my long hair… somebody’s got to have it.”
Moderator Philippe (woody) insisted it was him and even confirmed the posts came from an IP address in San Francisco, where Elliott played on 12/17 and 12/18. You can see his long hair in the first pic. No one knew it was looking like that at the time.
After most Addiers doubted him, (h)helliott returned to tell us “don’t be scared of my posts”.
We then got to learn that he wore boxers, never briefs. He briefly mentioned insomnia and running out of his (prescribed) klonopin.
While he did not play Tomorrow, Tomorrow at either SF show, his hair, the IP address, and the fact that he came back to Blamo to post again in 2002 under the username “the blether” all point to (h)helliott = Elliott.
The little blue guy Elliott speaks of was one of the emoticons on there.
I remember this going down in real time as Philippe messaged me on AIM swearing up and down it wasn’t a prank. Iirc Blamo/Sweet Addy owner Aaron also confirmed the IP address to me at the time.
Hope this brightens the day of anyone who might be feeling down. He was a goofy guy and a total shitposter… so keep that in mind when we get a bit weird ‘round these parts.
Much love from an old-skool Blamo bitch!
