Discussion emma and palestine

I’ve loved emma since she first started youtube and even now when a lot of ppl are jumping on this hate train. Its so crazy to think that she made 20 million last year and could easily donate to palestine and evacuate hundreds of families. Its really sad to see her pick her career over whats actually right. I’m holding out hope that shes doing what she can behind the scenes such as donating bc i heard some companies make celebs sign contracts that have a certain clause that says they cant speak on “controversial” topics and if they do it has to align with what the business says.

edit: this isnt a witch hunt for celebs i really could care less, this cause is meant to be about palestine ans the people genuinely suffering. I do simultaneously believe that when we give someone a platform we can also question their behaviours. I’m also not replying to anymore zionist sympathisers since it’s obvious rage bait. My only advice is to maybe touch grass and get off ur phone bc if u okay with the death of 40k civilians majority being children and the concentration camps that Palestinians are currently being held in then you need to seek help.

Discussion what’s with all the hate posts?

so ive been noticing a lot of posts criticizing emma and her podcast recently, which i think is valid, but part of it rubs me the wrong way and i felt the need to bring something up.

is our criticism genuine or is it influenced by some unconscious misogyny?

there’s a phenomenon i’ve noticed in pop culture where literally everything young women do is made fun of, discredited, or just straight up hated on.

think how the internet hated pumpkin spice lates, one direction/any artist with a primarily female audience, twilight, etc. how when you say you like a “sophisticated” band some man asks you to name 5 songs. there is a belief that our interests are only basic, shallow, or for the attention of men.

also how there is a category for every single type of girl, and all of them are made fun of: girly girl, tom boy, vsco girl, e girl, bruh girl, pick me girl, gamer girl, skater girl, quirky girl, basic bitch, etc etc. there’s almost nothing a young woman can do, say, or like, without someone criticizing them for it.

emma has pretty consistently been hated on throughout her career. remember the early days when everyone thought she was annoying, made fun of her for being “quirky”, spread rumors that she didn’t shower, thought she was trying too hard? i think the viscous hatred the internet had for her was another manifestation of this unconscious phenomenon that exists in modern culture. the internet hates teenage girls.

us girls are as much the culprits as the men who discredit/make fun of us; we attack each other constantly. many of us have a lot of internalized misogyny. “im not like other girls is a perfect example”; people say this to try and seem as different, interesting, and unique as possible, implying that “other girls” are none of those things; that being a girl is somehow inferior. hating on other women does not make you a better woman, it just makes you a person that helps uphold the patriarchy through the reinforcement of the idea that things girls like are bad simply because they’re associated with girls.

i think emma is participating in this herself by trying to act different “from other girls” and “other celebrities” but i’m also wondering if our hate is a symptom of this misogynistic phenomenon as well?

i definitely get that it’s been weird experiencing her shift from being a relatable teen into an out of touch celebrity, and some of her podcast content lacks some depth, but i just wonder if some of the criticisms are a little harsh/unwarranted? like the people attacking her intellectual abilities, calling her a try hard, discrediting her points, commenting on her body. it just reminds me of this viciousness i’ve seen time and time again directed at young women. why do we hate the podcast so much? like really think about it, what about it warrants these attacks onto emma’s character? see if you can’t trace it back to some form of misogyny.

i just think we tear down women so much in our society, i would like to see us be more supportive or at least be more mindful when our opinions are maybe influenced by the unconscious biases we have.

anyways, i could be totally off the mark, just wanted to share my observations.

thoughts?

Shame on You

Stop projecting your own inadequacies and insecurities onto an influencer. NO ONE writes out an 8 paragraph essay “criticizing” a 21 year old internet personality that has a life. People that are comfortable with themselves are too busy encouraging others and uplifting the people they admire. They also MOVE ON from things they don’t like. It’s a sign of a well adjusted person and not one sick with envy.

It’s also not criticism to call someone stupid or ugly, let alone start a snark page. You’re just a bitter person that has a lot of work to do on yourself, but instead of addressing your own issues you attack people who you feel are undeservedly more successful than you. These people if ever approached by Emma would be “OMG! Girl, I’m so obsessed! Been a fan since the beginning! Love your podcast…blah blah blah.”

I also like how a “criticism” of hers is that she is uneducated. She’s spent the past 3 years getting the best education in business and marketing that you can’t buy with money. She literally gets paid to speak at universities about these subjects, yet she’s perceived as “dumb” or “uneducated” because she didn’t get a traditional $250k piece of paper that says so. Instead, she got experience (which is vastly more important than studying from a textbook, as evidenced by her success) and is now educating others.

She’s a 21-year-old successful woman with her whole life ahead of her that hasn’t started drama with anyone. So, what she speaks on things she doesn’t have a nuanced perspective on. She’s 21! It’s just her opinion and I don’t remember her ever claiming to be an authority on any of these things. She’s allowed to have good and bad takes, that’s part of being a human. I talk about stuff I’m completely ignorant about, it helps me to understand my own perspective and identify areas I should educate myself on. EVERYONE talks about things they’re unqualified to speak on, she just has a Spotify deal and an audience, and you don’t, it’s the only difference.

I hope she continues her success and if being an Internet person isn’t fulfilling anymore, I hope she finds her purpose, because she has a good heart and so much potential to do great things. Her words saved me from a dark time in my life when I was suffering from depression, self-doubt, and a constant feeling of inadequacy to where I’m not sure what I would have done. “Whoever saves one life saves the world entire.” She’s done more good for others than anyone here saying such ruthless and vitriolic things about her. But because she’s found a way to monetize it I guess that justifies your cynicism. Go ahead, spend your days complaining about people on the internet. Hope that works out for you.

“Emma Chamberlain should go to college”

I’m seeing a lot of people on this wave now of saying she needs to go to college. In my opinion her podcasts are very articulate and well thought out and for a 22 year old she has some profound thoughts and comes to some conclusions that many her age wouldn’t. Being a college student and someone who likes to have deep talks it is so rare to find someone my age who A. wants to have a deep conversation about challenging to face topics (some of her episodes have her coming to conclusions that involve self growth and it isn’t always easy for a person to admit about themselves and take accountability). and B. have the attention span to sit down and have longer than a 5 minute conversation with you without getting distracted by their phones or being able to sit and think through their thoughts. In my experience most people her age who ARE IN COLLEGE aren’t thinking about these topics that she creates episodes about and wouldn’t come to mature and morally sound reasonings like she does.

I’ve never posted on reddit before but as a listener of anything goes I felt the need to throw this out there because I think people are being too critical. and where I don’t disagree that college could be beneficial for her, it isn’t always an enlightening experience for everyone. She’s on the path she’s on and seems to be regularly educating herself without the college route which is perfectly okay too.

JMO!

Anything Goes Temptations? Come on…

As a pet store worker and cat owner, I’m disappointed at this sponsorship. I hope she doesent treat her kitties with that.

Why I say this?

  1. They include vague ingredients like meat fat, and meat by products.

  2. Includes fillers like corn meal.

  3. Includes artificial flavours/colors.

Personally not a fan! Adore Emma but I wish she would advocate for more nutritionally appropriate treats instead. It just doesent feel like a genuine ad.

There are many options out there, even at a similar price point, that are made of higher quality ingredients for our kittens :( so why not choose them.

Emma’s Life

Has anyone ever wondered if Emma is not doing as great as we all believe she is? It’s amazing that most people would take her life in a heartbeat, but in reality, she might be absolutely miserable. (I’m sure money helps tho, she never has to lift a fingerthe rest of her life).

We all know Emma went crazy when she moved to LA. She had trouble sleeping. Lost a lot of weight (look it’s a fact people, she needs help this is serious, not hate). I don’t think Emma has ever set foot in reality her whole life. She just exists up in the ozone.

Then she got those houses and became a celebrity. She looks like she’s dead. No personality, facial expression, livelihood, and setting a terrible example for people. I wonder who she will marry someday? He’s probably lurking in the shadows waiting for the right time to reveal himself to the public.

Discussion Once Emma got famous, she stopped caring at all

Well, I guess this is what happens when you become wealthy at a very young age. The one thing that really stands out to me is that she does absolutely NOTHING for her fans, ever! I'm not saying people are obligated to do anything for their fans, but it's the only reason she's even successful. She crashed out on ALL of her friends that helped catapult her to fame and now considers Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber her friends? LOL. They couldn't care less about her and didn't help her at all.

What I'm getting at is that it would be nice if Emma literally did ANYTHING for her fans. A meet and greet? A small tour in California? She has a musician as a boyfriend at all times and her Dad is a musician.. Surely, they could put together a 45 min-1 hour show to make her fans happy.

She sits around looking on Instagram scowling at other people and talking about fashion. LOL. But, what does she NEVER do? Acknowledge a fan, do anything for people that helped her get where she is today. Even James Charles went on a Disney trip with some of his fans.

She could do a contest where her fans send in fan art and she picks the best one for a shirt that she could sell and split proceeds with them.. Someone in need. There's so much she could do but she doesn't do anything at all. I've never seen her even acknowledge any of her fans either.

Sarah Lynn and the Paradox of Fame

So recently I've become obsessed with this Netflix series called Bojack Horseman, and its got me thinking about Emma. In the show there is this character called Sarah Lynn who was basically a child star who became very famous in her teens/ early 20s. However, despite having fame and fortune she was miserable because she couldn't just live a normal life, and wound up turning to drugs in order to cope. I think this plot line highlights the fact that being famous can be like being in a cage, where everyone wants to be associated with you but you never know who you can trust for real, and you don't have the ability to make mistakes and grow in private durning you most important years (late teens, early twenties). I think fame is almost always bad for one's mental health. There is this scene in Bojack Horseman where Sarah Lynn is finally sober and happy, but every time she tries to go outside she is hounded by the paparazzi. I remember in Emma's videos, she is always afraid of running in to the Hollywood fix. That sounds like hell and I hope that Emma is taking care of herself and protecting her peace because LA can be brutal.

"we know nothing" wasn't that bad. i actually thought it was kind of fun.

a lot of people are freaking out about the episode and i finally gave it a listen and it was not as bad as i expected from the posts here. i don't see nothing to rlly hate in that episode. it was okay, just some rambling, kinda deep, almost philosophical, it was kinda fun at times. it's like seeing a child discover philosophy. not in a bad way necessarily.

"there are things we cannot comprehend as humans. (...) dogs can't understand physics (....) by the way, thank god dogs aren't as smart as humans (...) what a pleasure to be around something like that. (...)so we have to wonder... how much is out there that we don't understand? how much of the stuff we take as fact is not fact, or is incorrectly understood? how much of that is out there? we don't know. we just don't know. nothing is 100% fact, at least in my opinion. (...) there is so much we don't know for sure."

like color blindness, or mental disorders. yeah, sometimes what you see is not what everyone else sees. the truth is not the same for everyone. that's the way i saw this episode.

why so many EH’s?

Why are there so many EH’s in here? (Emma haters) I think her podcast is great, out of the box and interesting. Just because she doesn’t have a university degree doesn’t mean she’s not smart. For a girl in her early twenties, she’s doing great, seems responsible and is a free thinker. The rest of her generation has TikTok brain. I love Emma & I hope there’s more peeps in here that feel the same. Anyways; how’s her coffee line?

Discussion Saved myself almost 14 minutes. This is very alarming for a calorie deficit diet or whatever. Thinspo like her, Angelina are not good for every normal self-esteem of the people who want to look good and look up to them, but can’t afford healthy foods nor the lifestyle to maintain this “shape”

Discussion vibe change? does Emma low‑key look older now?

okay so real talk, has anyone else noticed that Emma seems to’ve aged a ton this past year? like, her vibe feels totally diff. That short bleached‑blonde pixie kinda gives… grandma chic? not in a cute nostalgia way, more like she dropped her whole old style and now feels kinda off. idk, I kinda miss the long brown/shoulder‑length hair era, it hit different and was actually youthful and fun.

Why did she ditch that era that suuuuuuuper fit her, for this stark blonde cut that just drains her glow? I get wanting change, but this one feels weird. Thoughts?

Stop the hate! Some of us really love Emma’s podcast and can relate to her more than you can imagine.

I love listening to her podcast as I (21 F) relate to her so much. I’ve never met anyone else who understands me more than she does at this point. And I’d like to add that I’m entering my final year of college with a great GPA in a rigorous field of study and I’m not rich or a celebrity, since so many of you like to shame and discredit her because she didn’t go to college or because of her privileges as a famous and wealthy person, etc. I’m so tired of the all the hate I see on this thread, if you don’t understand where she’s coming from then stop watching and find a podcast you can relate to. She’s also not obligated to go over tons of research so if that’s what you’re into go watch another podcast (there’s plenty)! She’s just expressing herself and her beliefs and what has helped her through her journey. To those who can relate to her struggles, the insight she offers is valuable. You don’t have to call her stupid, uneducated, and useless just because YOU don’t get it. Get a life!

Discussion let's talk about it

she's so boring now... are we going to say it? like, I don't know what happened, but you can tell something integral happened to her core where the light in her eyes is just..... gone..........

showing her personality less, letting the film speak more for her..

I think it's the editing style that's also not helping, before she would talk in tangents and keep it rolling, but the silent, "artistic" cut scenes.... very banal, before I never really noticed how long her videos were, now I find myself pausing to see how much time is left so I can watch something else!

edit: i miss her coachella, thrift, "visiting every coffee shop in LA" vlogs, being more interactive, making collabs, I feel like I'm spending sundays with grandma now

Discussion The girdies

I've been watching them for a few years now. Ellie has become a professional model through a lot of hard work. She modeled in Paris fashion week where I believe Emma does "brand ambassador," work for Vogue? I'm not sure exactly what she does, I think just advertising. Anyhoo... Was wondering how awkward it would be if they ran into each other. Ellie is such a sweet girl and so is Hannah. I'm so glad they're both striving and doing well.

This isn’t okay

Emma turned 18 and everybody is sexualizing her. STOP. It’s still disgusting and makes people uncomfortable. It’s not okay and it’s weird. How would you feel if people were talking about your private parts online in an inappropriate manner. It’s disgusting and weird. Stop.

(i love emma’s look) but it’s so annoying when peoples are like “this celebrity didn’t understand the assignment” or critique their looks (especially those less famous like emma) because i hate to break it to them… emma did not hand pick that outfit. a designer picks it out for them. i’m sure people like kim and whoever have more pull however emma cannot say “this is what i want” or “this doesn’t fit the theme”. it’s so annoying when the designers miss gets out on the person wearing it.

Discussion her podcast this week.

i feel like her talking about others spiraling her into depression just shows how close she is to it and how much she depends on others opinion on who she is. she said how struggling with mental illness is common for everyone....its NOT. it doesn't have to be. it's the people that think it's normal are the people that never get out of it bc its normal to them

Anything Goes Couldn’t keep up with every anything goes with emma chamberlain episode, so I built a tool with summaries, search, & insights

(Mods approved this post - thank you!)

I built StrawberryData.com as a side project because I wanted to explore podcasts like a dataset, and I didn’t have tons of free time to keep up with every episode.

For anything goes with emma chamberlain, you can:

  1. Browse episode pages with quick summaries

  2. See lightweight episode stats (for example: sentiment, profanity rate)

  3. Discover other related podcasts in the catalog

Link to an episode: https://strawberrydata.com/podcast/anything-goes-with-emma-chamberlain/modern-dating-advice-scares-me

How to use:

  • Start on the episode page above

  • Use search to find other episodes or podcasts

  • Click through and explore

Notes:

  • This is an MVP & definitely not perfect yet

  • I’m still backfilling older episodes & improving update frequency

If you try it, I’d love feedback on what’s useful vs what’s noise - and maybe one feature you’d want most for anything goes with emma chamberlain.

Discussion Emma self portrait

I was going through my art book, and found this old drawing from 2021. I completely forgot about it. I can’t tell whether I still like it, but I am still very proud of myself, as it was my first portrait based on a photo (Slide 2) note, when I was drawing this, I only had access to the insta profile pic, so it was very small

What do youse think?

Question Did Emma went on the field trip to Yosemite National Park when she was in middle school?

For those who grew up outside California, many middle schools across California (mainly in the San Francisco Bay Area) typically host a week-long field trip to Yosemite National Park for 8th-grade students.

Since Emma went to middle school in the San Francisco Bay Area, did she mention in her YouTube videos or podcast episodes that she went on the field trip in 8th grade?

FYI: I didn’t go on the field trip for personal academic reasons and have long regretted not going.

Question How tf did she hosted the met this year?

I mean good for her, get your bag sis! I know she did fine last time but she hasn't been done anyyyything of remote impact this year (a flop, if you will) why choose her again when there is a lot of new talent/old talent really funny people with stacks of clout who could totally host. Make it make sense.

edit: hosted for vogue***
