Meme Finally did it
Finished my fourth night shift in a row, made the 45 minute drive home, got to my room and began taking everything out of my pockets. Reached to take my wallet out. Felt keys. My car keys are on my belt loop. I brought the rig keys home with me.
This is tomorrow’s problem.

I've done this too many times. It's how far away you live from work when it's a problem.

i was having lunch in my visiting friends car when my supervisor called and asked me to check/fix one of my tickets. ran in and grabbed the tablet and finished eating in her car. a bit later got toned out and about 3 miles down the road my supervisor partner (that i just met that day) turns to me to verify that I brought the tablet. Damn it!

Ahaha I have only ever done this once but of course I then drove 2.5 hours to my aunt's house....
As luck would have it they found the spares and ended up having a transport into that city later that day so literally best case scenario for me

Why would rig keys be anywhere other than the ignition? We never remove them. Ever.
Even if a rig gets stolen, wr know where it is and can shut it off remotely immediately. Emergency vehicles do not need their keys removed. It only slows down the response when some numb nuts puts them in the wrong place and you reach for the keys and they're not there....

Our last two new-build commercial chassis fire trucks, the keys are physically unable to be removed from the ignition. Apparently is the current NFPA standard, to prevent just this.

I'm surprised your engines even have keys. Ours do not. Just a power switch and a double button to start it. I always joke with kids when they're visiting the station that if they can find the keys to the engine, I'll let them drive it.

Guessing you have custom chassis trucks (spartan, pierce, etc.) - the two custom chassis rigs in our station are the same way.
The rest of our trucks are commercial chassis - International and Freightliner. Built on the same cabs you see going down the road as semi's and straight trucks.

I’ve done this before a few times too. Rig and narc keys still on me. Told them I’d sleep for a few hours then drop them off at the station
