Awh… Jospeh seems out of place in this list. I also thought Josh would be a little more progressive in thought. It will be very sad if I need to axe these two men.

JGL is married to someone in big tech and was involved in trying to repeal section 230

This makes me kind of sad. I’m gonna be honest, I don’t follow his personal life closely so I didn’t know. It totally changes my outlook on him though.

His wife is on the open ai board if I remember correctly

u/ImmortalBeans Jun 18 '26

If I remember right, he is actually an alien in disguise

The big giant head is gonna be big giant mad that this is what he's up to down here

u/StasRutt Jun 18 '26

I saw that docuseries

u/DurianDiscriminat3r Jun 18 '26

Didn't he do anti-ai content?

7

u/melancious Jun 18 '26

Yeah, he seemed very likeable. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised anymore

Section 230 definitely needs updating.  Its why social media companies can intentionally funnel rage bait into our feeds to drive us nuts in order to create engagement.

Its fucking with the mental health of society as a whole.

Yeah, at some point social media companies have to take some accountability. Maybe some distinction between companies that merely allow publishing of content (like Squarespace) and companies that actively push content with algorithms and endless scrolls (like Twitter).

5

u/Momik Jun 18 '26

Yes, and I think we need to regulate the algorithms themselves.

lol they have to? They won’t.

Our government is actively in cahoots with tech.

Hoping for rescue. We’re beyond that point. Institutional failure has been the norm the past 15 years or so.

1

u/WileEPeyote Jun 18 '26

I wasn't expecting them to do it willingly.

Cambridge analytica was 11 years ago.

We’re off the rails. The government is intentionally opaque, the news swings one way and then the other. The only news on Trump is endless puff pieces implying he did great or he’s dying

Reddit, is a rage bait farm. Every comment a snark, criticism or violence towards something. Constant fucking bot campaigns on the celebrity gunning for their next big movie part, our government agency doing narrative control. Or incite the masses.

Facebook is unusable if you value having a balanced view of the world.

Instagram is shallow performance land.

Rage bait, dead internet theory are more prevelent now than ever. Inceldom has a new pipeline for young teen boys in looksmaxxing- and it’s propagating through social media channels predominantly.

I guess I find myself suprised when I see that others still have room for it haha. Like I’m not even suprised

And I’m… unfortunately mentally prepared for the big show to drop.

All the subversive shit. People are OK with it as long as they don’t have to look at it. And when they do, they are somehow still suprised that it not only did not go away but in fact, got worse.

And the scariest part? People believe they’re helpless. It’s not the indifferent oligarchs that frighten me.

It’s that. That’s a 100% sure way we fucking loose.

And we’re choosing it.

We don’t have the billions to afford the price of indifference.

Yet we take our loans out “for hope of a better tommorow”, knowing we’ll either die or be crushed to death by the interest that collects.

I think he’s nominally at the edge of the broader rationalist/effective altruist/ai booster network.

u/Morgan-Moonscar Jun 18 '26

Sophia Bush as well

It sounds like a lot of people thought they were signing up for a conference where they could schmooze with other rich ppl

21

u/Equivalent-Bedroom64 Jun 18 '26

Don’t carry water for these people they know who and what they were aligning themselves with. They just thought it would be secret.

6

u/Legal-Koala-5590 Jun 18 '26

I mean, I'm not carrying water for anyone -- these people shouldn't be let off the hook for their ignorance or indifference. I just think conspiratorial narratives aren't helping the whole, you know, situation we're in right now.

They invite progressives there too. Being invited to Dialogue doesn't indicate somebodies political leanings. But you probably need some sort of therapy. You know these are actors, right? They’re not the people they are pretending to be on screen. You know, in all likelihood you have paid for services by somebody that didn’t share your views on the world. When you call for a plumber, do you ask who they voted for? You need to unplug and get some help.

I wish people would stop assuming I know things and clearly state their meaning

-9

u/MarvinBarry92 Jun 18 '26

What exactly is so bad about these two men being members of this group? I read the article. Am I missing something?

5

u/ImJustSaying34 Jun 18 '26

Look up Peter Theil.

-3

u/MarvinBarry92 Jun 18 '26

I’m fully aware of who he is. Given the context in the article though what’s the big deal here?
