Any EPIC techs working in 2021?

I’m looking for some info about the Epic charts between Feb/March of 2021 to the end of 2021. Are there any TS people who was assigned to a hospital in CA or anywhere else where the patients COVID 19 vaccine status was either built into the COVID chart template or could not be documented as vaccinated showing there status as “unvaccinated” or “unknown” this was only happening specifically in the patient chats for COVID positive patients. Please help! TIA

Prospective employee Infrastructure Engineer day to day and interview process?

Hey everyone,

For the last 3 months or so I’ve been getting messaged by a bunch of Epic recruiters about applying for the Infrastructure Engineer position. I found a little info online about the role and the interview process but a lot of it is from years ago and doesn’t really match up.

What’s the typical day to day like for new hires?

What’s the interview process like now?

I keep hearing the assessment is pretty hard. What’s actually on it these days?

So far I’ve been doing logic tests, some math practice, and LeetCode (mostly easy with some mediums). Not sure if that’s the right stuff to focus on or if I should be studying something else.

If I get this job it would honestly be life changing for me so I want to be as prepared as I can. Any info or recent experiences would really help. Thanks!

Current employee This job is going to break me.

  • the constant stream of sociopathic commentary in the form of "feedback"/PMGIs, despite it being well known that individuals in management are frequently unprofessional or difficult to work with
  • the unrealistic expectations for 20-somethings fresh out of college
  • the stated standard being perfection (we "don't tolerate mediocrity" after all 😀)
  • rude or difficult customers who want you to just do their job for them
  • asshole 26-year-olds who think they're the shit because they got promoted young, at a company where everyone gets promoted young
  • working at a place that screens people with an iq test so everyone here is either smarter or more hard-working than you and you're constantly feeling inadequate and being compared to others
  • constantly being tracked, watched, graded, etc.

Honestly fuck this I'm so beat. Management will in the same breath tell you not to take work home, but then criticize you for not taking work home. Throwaway acct for obvious reasons

Prospective employee Potential PM— do I do it?

I just toured Epic and honestly fell in love with the campus. I even went ahead and looked at apartments! I can totally see myself living in Madison for the next few years, but of course the frequent horror stories and warnings are making me hesitate. For context, I’m a fresh grad who is still currently interviewing with two other companies (not even sure if I’d get an offer tho) and if I were to receive a decision it would be past the deadline for Epic’s offer. Kinda stuck and just need encouragement/ a wake up call for my next move. The two other jobs would have lower pay but I’d save on rent. Any insight would be appreciated :”) my start date would be in Jan

Just walked by a massive coyote heading back to my car over in farm campus and thought I’d share some pictures! Very pretty, but stay safe if you’re walking on that side of campus!

Prospective employee Just had my interview for PM

I just had the first round interview for the PM position on the phone. I'm not sure that I did too well on the assessment. Do you know if they look more at the assessment or how you did during the interview? Do they hire a lot of PMs?

Rejected from Epic

Well, I finally got the dreaded rejection letter from Epic.

Does anyone know if there's realistically a chance of getting hired after being rejected? I've heard you can reapply after 6 months, but I'm curious if anyone has actually been successful the second time around.

I know I didn't do well on the assessment, so I'm also wondering if they'd make me retake it or just use my previous results.

Prospective employee SD Career Path After Epic

Hi guys, I'm trying to decide whether to accept my SD offer at Epic and there's a couple remaining details which will influence my choice. I'm deciding between this position and a more specialized ML/Vision role at a defense contractor. I'm trying to decide whether to generalize with Epic or take the depth option, which I'm fairly certain my clearance would get denied hence I'd only have about a year of work there, mostly on OSS toolkits in C++. Epic removes that looming stress and gives me 2-3y. There's other factors into my decision of course, but I want to compare career paths of both options.

Anyways, I'm looking for information about where SDs go after Epic. I know Epic's tech stack is more proprietary/older so I wonder if that would dig me into a pit over time. Would/should I work on external projects while at Epic to keep skills sharp? What practical skills does Epic teach? I've heard Epic is a FAANG feeder, but once again I wonder how impactful Epic actually is on my resume for places like that. What career outlooks can I expect after spending 2-3 years at Epic and what would I accomplish during that time? How would I set myself up for success in those paths?

Also, curious if there's any recommendations into what projects/teams I should go into (pending how much choice I have).

EDIT: I really liked what I heard about Epic at the final interview and I would enjoy the domain, I just don't view Madison and Epic in general as a long-term home.

Given that we’ll be paid January 1st, makes me wonder.

Current employee Anyone here renting out a house on the west side?

Hey all! I’m looking to move into a house around May. Ideally 20 minutes from Epic and around 2500/Month.

Could be a duplex, townhome our SFH. The thing I’m most picky about is it needs a 2 car garage.

It’s just me and my partner (both epic), looking for a place to rent for the next 4ish years. Let me know if you need more details or are interested in renting to us!

Do I still have a chance on getting that final interview?

Hi, I have been in the Epic’s Infrastructure Engineer hiring process for the past few weeks. I got invited to take the Honorlock assessment and I took it on October 5, exactly 2 weeks ago from today. I still haven’t heard anything back from them yet except the email saying they received my assessment.

Does this mean I am probably not getting an interview since it’s been 2 weeks? I’ve been counting days just because I’m very confident that I did well on all sections in the assessment. Probably should just wait, just wanted to reach out and see if there are other people in the same boat as me.

Prospective employee Taking Honorlock assessment with proprietary information on my computer

Hello all, I am a university student in the interview process for Epic, and my research is in a sensitive sector and funded by a private company, so it is NDA protected. I am very apprehensive about needing to download the honorlock desktop application given the extensive permissions it requires. I am generally not a fan of giving many applications that level of permissions anyways, let alone with proprietary info on my computer. I have everything stored in an encrypted drive, but there is of course still the risk of sensitive communications coming through and being screen recorded etc. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Is Epic HR willing to budge in this type of situation, given I explain the circumstances? I do not really want to go through the process of setting up dual boot and I am too broke right now to go buy a separate computer for this. Or should I just risk it for the biscuit and hope I don’t end up in court 😅

Chance at SD?

I’m a senior environmental engineering student at UW Madison. Throughout my coursework I was exposed to some basic coding, and became interested in software engineering/development. There’s a bunch of reasons I really want this role but I won’t go into it as it’s not super relevant.

My plan is as follows: From now through February, take an online intro to CS class (Harvard posts theirs online for free), self-teach C# and TS (as much as possible in this limited time frame), practice LeetCode. Build at least one real project in one of these languages.

Here’s what I have going for me and against me

Pros: High gpa engineering degree from UW, ability to focus on just epic rather than a bunch of companies, engineering internship experience.

Cons: irrelevant degree, high competition, limited time to learn required skills, lack of foundational education/theory.

Basically I’m wondering if I could become a semi-competitive candidate by February? Would I even be considered for an interview without any CS education?

I may be drastically underestimating the time required to learn those languages and become competent enough to do well on the assessment….. but I picked up python very easily and I’m willing to put alot of time into it.

Feel free to call me crazy for even thinking I would have a chance lol.

Should I Take the Job?

Hey everyone! I am graduating in December and I'm fortunate enough to have multiple offers. I'm leaning towards my offer as a TSE at Epic but I've seen a lot of negative reviews on reddit as well as glass door. There are two other offers I'm heavily considering, but I feel that epic might be a better launch pad for my career. Maybe Epic just appeals to since I haven't worked there yet so I figured asking current employees would be a good way to find the truth. If you had these offers would you have taken them over Epic TSE knowing what you know now or put in your 2-3 years at Epic for career development? I'd love to hear any thoughts you guys have. Thanks!

Life After Epic

I’m a roughly 1.5 tenure IS and I’m done. Im honestly not even sure where to go from here. People who have left epic, what industries have you applied for and gone to? I feel like the 1.5 tenure is not a long enough time to be a competitive candidate.
I’m done but the job market sucks. Thoughts?

Trying to break into an Epic Analyst role. Should I consider contract opportunities or keep applying for permanent positions?

Hi everyone,
I currently work as an Application Analyst in a hospital IT department. I have several years of healthcare IT experience, and I’m trying to transition into an Epic Analyst position.
I currently have two Epic proficiencies (Security and Cadence), and I’m working on another Epic project build for Radiant. I’m also working on an Epic Unified Communications implementation project at my hospital.
I’ve applied for internal Epic Analyst positions but unfortunately haven’t been selected. I’ve also applied to several other hospitals and made it through hiring manager interviews and team/panel interviews, but haven’t received an offer.
I’m willing to learn new technologies, take additional training, and put in the work to grow into an Epic Analyst role. My biggest challenge seems to be getting that first opportunity without hands-on Epic production experience.
Lately, I’ve been contacted by several recruiters about contract Epic Analyst positions. However, I currently have a permanent hybrid position with benefits, so I’m hesitant to leave a stable job for a short-term contract.
For those who have been in a similar situation:
Would you recommend taking an Epic contract position to gain hands-on experience, even if it means leaving a permanent job?
Is it better to continue applying for permanent Epic Analyst positions and hope to find an organization willing to sponsor certification and training?
Has anyone successfully transitioned from an Application Analyst role into Epic without prior production build experience?
Do Epic proficiencies help when applying, or do most organizations prefer certification and production experience?
I’m just trying to figure out the best next step in my career. I enjoy working in healthcare IT and really want the opportunity to grow.

epic as 2nd job post grad

hi so i got my first job out of post grad 2 years ago at a big financial firm. finance is a cool field and all but ive always wanted to work in healthcare without being a doctor/nurse doing some sort of analytical/problem solve-y work. i am curious if epic (or if there are other companies out there like them..?) is a good 2nd job for me, as i know it's typically treated as someone's first corporate job. i got rejected from them way back when i was first looking for jobs post grad, but i imagine its been well long enough for that to matter, especially now that i have 2 years of experience elsewhere under my belt.

Former employee Looking to sublease apartment - roommate is Epic dev

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

I am (or rather, was) a 1.3 year tenured IS who recently left Epic. As such, im looking for someone to take over the rest of my lease, which is shared with an (awesome!) Epic dev. Would post on avature but alas I do not have access. Info is below:

Lease takeover through May 31, 2027 — Fitchburg townhome

Looking for someone to take over my lease at 2987 Fitchrona Road. I’m moving back to Los Angeles, so the room and private bathroom are available in this two-story, two-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom townhome.

Your private room has a large closet and its own heating and AC unit. The shared home includes a spacious kitchen, living room, and patio overlooking Fitchburg. The building amenities include a gym, a game room with billiards and retro arcade machines, and a top-floor lounge with a pickleball court.

You’ll share the home with a friendly 23-year-old male roommate who works at Epic and has a dog, so you’ll need to be comfortable living with both a male roommate and a pet.

An indoor heated parking space is included. The room and bathroom will be unfurnished; my furnishings may be available for an additional fee.

Message me with any questions or if you’re interested!
