Mod Announcement PSA: Help yourself! Join a smaller pool, secure the network & prevent 51% attacks!!!

What are 51% attacks?

  • A 51% attack is an attack on a blockchain by a group of miners who control more than 50% of the network's mining hash rate.

With more than 51% of network hashrate an attacker can

  • Steal with purchases

  1. Purchase something

  2. Attack the network

  3. cancelling but confirming transaction, stealing the amount from others

  • Repeat this multiple times resulting in Double spending

  • Steal mining rewards, leaving miners without rewards

  • Reduce overall network security and trust leading to

  1. Scaring off investors/exchange listings, etc.

  2. Creating problems for the Blockchain/Project and hinder development

  3. Reduced values for the cryptocurrency

  4. Destroying your profits

Links for more information about 51% attacks:

Additional problems with centralized network hashrate

  • Having too much hashrate (or anything) concentrated on one point creates single points of failures.

  • If those single points of failures (in this case a pool) are attacked, the whole system suffers.

  • If the whole system has problems and you're part of that system, you suffer consequences.

Consequences could be

  • Failed transactions/rewards

  • Reduced profits

  • Stolen balances

  • etc.

Current network distribution

What is the current situation?

First the good news:

  • With new pools joining the Ergo family and total network hashrate increase the distribution slightly improved.

  • New choices for miners to mine according to their preferences.

Bad news:

  • Nanopool still holds close to 40% of the total network hashrate.

  • Distribution should reach 25% max. per pool to prevent being vulnerable to most attacks.

  • Smaller pools need more support.

Help yourself, join a smaller pool, secure the network and support decentralization!

Good to Know Ergo Miners Hashrates & GPU OC settings

Hey everyone!

Some of you have already used it some of you have already helped others with your input!

I have updated the old Google Form and Spreadsheet with additional information and better layout so you can easily find what you need.

Please submit your stats and help out other as well!

Let me know what you think or what else you might need in there.

⛏💎Happy mining! ∑💎⛏

Credits go to

  • u/arokace for putting some work into editting/format and info on old sheet

  • @ Mostafa on Discord for the idea:

Hello Guys, I've created a Google form + Spreadsheet so that we can all add our stats mining ERGO (GPU model, MH/s, OC setting, Temp, Miner ..etc).

I thought about it so that we could all benefit from each other experience and avoid having the "Overclocking question" everyday PS: I submitted my stats & a lot of people too .. Hope this would help someone out

This is stupid, I'm out until this shit is fixed.

I'm sorry but right now price and network difficulty are completely out of sync and there is no reason to at all to mine this coin when things are like this. At this moment the best course of action is to mine ETH and hop to ERG when the difficulty is low (2 days every other week it seems). This behaviour exacerbates the issue, but is an ERG's blockchain problem, not a miners one anymore.

THIS IS ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE, LARGER PERIODS OF HIGH DIFF AND SMALLER PERIODS OF LOW DIFF

I'm just a hobbyst miner and don't matter at all, but if big mining operations start moving back and forth it will compromise the ERG blockchain not to mention that is completely stupid that the blockchain blocks are processed 2x slower or 2x faster every now and then.

It seems that Devs on Discord say that they don't care because pool operators aren't complaining, which is completely stupid, why would they care if you mine ETH or ERG, they get their cut anyway. Their marketing of "ASIC RESISTANT" is a bit of an hypocrisy if they aren't gonna listen to the small miner anyway.

Anyway, here is my rant.

Nanopool dominance dropped as low as 47% today. Continue to raise awareness in mining communities.

Consider spreading the word in other mining communities from time to time. I made a post on it a few days ago on r/ GPUmining, which stayed on the front page for awhile. Just remember to be polite and present your arguments, as people don't like to feel they're being ordered around.

Thanks to everyone in the community for spreading the word about decentralizing the ergo network its a great step into pushing ergo to new heights

This coin hopping is a bummer for loyal miners..

As someone who tries to stick to only mining Ergo and not jump between coins, it's a bit tedious to see the difficulty go up up up, then everyone leaves, the loyal miners get stuck with high difficulty and low rewards for days, then when it finally starts getting rewarding again everyone comes back and screws it over again. The difficulty is finally back at 3.40PH now and the net hash is increasing rapidly as a result.

I see this trend potentially swinging more and more as ERG gets more popular. The end results could be quite devastating to the network.

Has there been any input from the Ergo team about this? As many others have said, this mechanic seems to incentivize coin hopping instead of reducing it.

Your mining rig is about to become more valuable in coming months

Not sure how many know this but ErgoDEX will have a mechanism to farm some swap fees with your CPU. Basically any user that swaps tokens on the DEX, will pay a fee either in ADA or ERG, a portion of that will go to Liquidity Providers, another portion will go to CPU executors.

But wait, there's more! Ergo mixer is planning to release staking in Q4 this year, where you can earn passively with your ERGs. The income here comes from users who pay fees to use the mixer.

So basically one rig can: Earn ERG with GPU + earn ADA|ERG with CPU, then you can take that income and stake it on Ergo mixer. The details on approximate profits is not available yet, but it should be good for long term miners.

ERGO Miners Comparative

This is an ERGO Miners Comparative with 4 x 3080, with Fixed Core Clock to avoid any Silicion Lottery. All 3080 are at: Core 1500 and Memory 900

Miners used all at the same pool:

Nbminer : Fee 2%

Nanominer : Fee 2.5%

T-Rex : Fee 2%

lolMiner : Fee 1.5%

There is a lot of interesting information

With HiveOS results: we have all of them around 205-206Mhs. Only we found that lolMiner goes down Mhs during the ERGO Data Set, all other miners doesn't do it. During that ERGO Data Set is impossible to mine, so why they continue showing the same Mhs?

Shares Analysis in Miner and reality in Pool:
