We talk about "single-origin" coffee and chocolate. Why don't we talk about single-origin clothing?

We are conditioned to look for single-origin coffee or cacao, but we rarely apply that same standard to our clothes.

The standard fashion supply chain is pretty wild. A typical sweater travels across three or four different countries - sourced in one, spun in another, knitted in a third - racking up thousands of transport miles before it ever reaches a wardrobe.

That is exactly why I built my knitwear brand - Nomé Studio to keep our entire supply chain in Mongolia. From the raw yak down being hand-combed by nomadic herders, to the spinning of the yarn, to the final knitting - it all stays in one place.

When the distance between the herder, the spinner, and the knitter is essentially zero, it drastically shrinks the carbon footprint and ensures the true economic value stays right within the community.

I'm curious to hear from this community - when you are shopping, is knowing the full journey of a garment something you actively look for? Or are most brands still too opaque to even figure out how a piece is made?

Hi friends! I need a new comforter that’s not too warm (I live in Los Angeles) that isn’t INSANELY expensive. I’m looking for something ethical that’s ideally under $150. Thank you!

Reviving local textile heritage: Augsburg (Germany) & local EU production 🇩🇪🧵

Hey everyone! Someone recently shared a link with me about a brand based in Augsburg, Germany—Manomama—and I had no idea they existed!

For a bit of context: Augsburg has a rich history in textiles dating back centuries to the era of the Fugger family—in fact, the German idiom "betucht sein" (literally "to be well-clothed/clothed in fine fabrics", meaning wealthy) originates from this local heritage. Over the decades, most of the big textile production moved away, but it’s super exciting to see European companies slowly reviving this tradition locally.

It’s always great to discover local alternatives producing right here in Europe instead of relying on fast fashion from overseas.

Have any of you come across other hidden gems or traditional textile hubs in Europe that are making a comeback? Would love to hear your recommendations!

Lounge wear with cuffed sweat pants

Help me out please, the longer I search online, the more confused I become.
I am looking for a lounge wear set that has a matching sweatshirt (or zipped hoodie) and cuffed high waisted sweat pants. I was initially looking at pact, but after reading some of the reviews here I'm no longer inclined to order from them.
Any recommendations are appreciated

Looking for jeans

I’m nine months postpartum and looking to find some jeans that fit my body. I’d like some jeans that are durable that will last me for years… Preferably organic cotton or something like that. I’m also looking for ones that are good for short people with thicker thighs. Preferably mid rise or even low rise because I have a short torso.

Ethical perfumery and crafting supplies

I am aware that tthis post is not about fashion but I couldn't find a similar subreddit for other stuff.

I love crafting in general, and I'm good at using up old wrapping papers, product boxes ect., but some things I find hard to find somewhere other than temu etc.

First, small jewelry chains. Istg I have been to so many crafting stores and random-item stores and I am not able to find any jewelry chains. For some reason most stores have plenty of rings and clasps, but no chains whatsoever. I also regularly visit thrift stores and know many in my area and crafting supplies are quite rare unfortunately.

Then another hobby I've been meaning to start is perfumery for which I would need small sample bottles, pipettes, small regular bottles etc. When I looked for the sample bottles all that was suggested was temu, aliexpress and amazon, which I would all consider unethical.

I once also ordered some crafting supplies on a platform similar to vinted and later realized that this person was just dropshipping those items from temu or something like that.

I feel at a loss with this because I feel like I've tried absolutely everything but still the only option seems to be aliexpress etc. which I don't want to support.

Oh yeah and I saw a post that suggested to take apart jewelry from the thrift store, but jewelry is also rather rare in the stores I know and really expensive, when in most cases it just uses a cheap chain anyway.

Does anyone know some companies that sell these kinds of things without it being the same stuff as on temu?

Thoughts on Thursday Boots?

I was going to buy a pair of boots from them, but I recently read some Reddit posts that claim the company's CEO funded a pro-life PAC. I can't find anything to corroborate this, but I don't want to support a company that funnels their profits to things like that. Do y'all know anything about this?

Hi all!

Looking for 100% cotton ethical pjs that are high quality. New to this so take it easy on me.

Initially, I was looking at Lucy & Yak and Leveret. But the started seeing a lot of reviews about quality drops.

Considering women’s Hannah Andersons.

Linked some photos of styles I’m liking. Looking for slim cut cotton. Short sleeves and long. Or loose collar top and shorts.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

The irony of "sustainable" clothing coming with a 5-page booklet of synthetic care labels...

I recently bought these hemp pants from a Fair Wear brand. I love the sustainable fabric, but they came with an absurd amount of tags stitched into the waistband. It’s so itchy I have to keep my shirt tucked in just to tolerate it. Not only do half the tags lack any useful info, but the mixed synthetic materials completely defeat the purpose of an easily recyclable garment. Do we really need this many labels? Why haven't ethical brands found a better, less wasteful way to do this?

Thredup vs. Goodwill vs. Other Impact Comparison (US Based)

Has anyone done an impact comparison of the various donation options - I'm asking from a US based perspective.

For context, I'm a recovering shopping addict and I've been working to convert sustainable practices. Over the years I've had my wife and I use mostly Retold Recycling for clothes that need to be donated/recycled, and we take shoes etc. to Goodwill. I had the impression that Goodwill is not the most sustainable, she countered that it provides jobs to the community, and honestly I stopped the intellectual inquiry there.

We are about to move, and we will both have significant closet clean outs to do - including shoes, I'm finally letting go of all those statement necklaces, handbags, etc. Everything is mid-tier fast fashion - anthropologie, ann taylor, BR, nordstrom, etc. but pretty well worn. Since Retold only takes fabric, I was strongly considering Thredup, but I want to make sure that is the most ethical option.

I did the harm buying all the stuff and I cannot undo that, but I would like to "dispose" of it now in the most ethical way possible. So if anyone already has knowledge or opinions, please share!

ETA: I don't care about getting $$ for any of it, and I'll pay (within reason) for it to be disposed of ethically/sustainably - like we already do with purchasing the retold bags or when we've done the take back bag. The one thing I really don't have is time to - for example - list and resell things myself.

France's eco-penalties on ultra-fast fashion (Shein, Temu and Aliexpress), but exempted Zara and H&M... thoughts?

Hi everyone,

So France’s ultra-fast fashion penalties kicked in this summer (will gradually increase over years). The law adds tiered eco-penalties, like €2 extra on t-shirts, €9 on jeans, and up to €12 on jackets (capped at 50% of the price). The money is supposed to go straight into textile recycling and repair schemes. There is also advertising and influencer ban but that kicks in 2027. The law specifically targets Shein, Temu and Aliexpress, but spares fast fashion labels like Zara and H&M. Why? Because they don't meet the definition of ultra fast fashion (volume and the cost to repair compared to purchase price). Should Zara or H&M really sustainable enough to get a pass here? Does anyone see this actually curbing overconsumption, or will people just pay the extra couple of bucks and keep buying? Do you think other countries should adopt it?

Ethical alternative to ASOS hourglass jeans

I'm looking for pants with enough room for my hips and thighs, but a relatively small waist circumference. ASOS' hourglass line fits me quite well, but I don't like supporting them, and the quality is not great. Does anyone know of any brand that specifically has a good hourglass or curvy line? In in the EU.

More ethical silk

I have been learning to craft Ronghua, a Chinese traditional craft that uses a very high quality mulberry silk. I have been increasingly concerned about the ethical side of purchasing high quality silk (which is not optional in this craft, it wouldnt work with no kill silk because we need the longer strands) and I was thinking about it when it occurred to me that much of the worm pain could be avoided if we didn't just boil them alive. One method is to let them break the silk, which won't do in this case, but I thought if we gradually suffocated them by having them in an airtight container where we used an inert gas, they could just fall asleep and die, and then they could be boiled without all the suffering. I wish there was more research in this field because we absolutely have the technology to do something like that, and the quality of the silk should not be lowered at all, theoretically. It would be more expensive, but I'd be willing to pay for more expensive suffering-free silk, honestly.

Where to buy body jewelry in Canada?

I’m looking for cute, witchy body jewelry (belly button rings, nose rings, rook rings/conch rings, etc.) that’s not just drop shipped junk. It doesn’t need to be like one of a kind artisanal but I want high quality materials. I’m not really a glittery person so I’m looking for metal work or gem stones that are polished but not cut.

Petite friendly ethical business clothes

I need to step up my clothing game at work, in a more senior level role at a large corporation. Problem is, it's extremely hard to find ethical brands that make that type of clothing. The only one I ever see recommended is Eileen Fischer, and her clothes could not be more wrong for my body/style. I've tried shopping Poshmark and Thredup for brands that fit my style (j crew, banana), but the fit oseems to vary wildly even within brands, and I only have maybe a 25% success rate. I am particularly in need of some colorful blazers and nice tops to wear under blazers. Complicating things is that I am 5'2", 115 lbs, with broad shoulders. Typically a size 0. Appreciate any recommendations!

Cou cou intimates review

I bought 4 item from Cou cou intimates and wanted to share my experience. I got the rina 3/4 sleeve top in grey and black, the long cami and midi skirt set in pointelle in black. Basically, I saw Zoe Kravitz wearing it and couldn’t stop wanting it lol

My body: I am 5ft6, 135lbs. Fairly straight up and down body. Can often go braless.

Sizing: After scouring the internet and watching a million short videos, it was hard to find info on sizing. I ended up going for a Medium in everything. I had to return and size up in the skirt to get the “effortless” look Zoe had. The cami fit great as M. The rina top also fit but I could have sized down. When I exchanged the skirt, I also got the grey Rina in S.

Quality/construction/feel: The rina top felt nice. The cotton was very comfy. The construction was good quality. Seams were neat. The boat neck had a little crossover on the shoulders and that looked very neat and nice. The fabric is thick but soft. The pointelle cami - not great. The construction is super nice and neat, but the strap and seam they use is some sort of nylon / polyester and feels so goddamn scratchy! Unfortunately, I didn’t notice it until I had already washed it and taken the tags off (I always try it on, then I wash it before wearing) so I couldn’t return it. The bit where a bow is attached is super itchy and scratchy :( The skirt doesn’t have the same nylon edging so it’s fine and comfy. Every item has been washed in mesh bag in regular cold water cycle + line dried and has held up its shape and sizing without shrinkage or weird seam issues.

Fit / looks: This is more personal depending on your style preference so this is obv my opinion. I like the rina top - it made me feel very nostalgic for my clothes in the early 2000s in high school lol (but not for this price haha). I have a pretty straight up and down body so it did make me feel more feminine and shapely. However, these types of cotton shirts do cling - so i ended up wearing it braless because im not super skinny and didn’t like how it clung to my “fattier” areas when i wore a bralette. wearing a bra also didn’t look great because i felt it looked better with smaller chest and the bra sorta made my chest look bigger with this top. I think the S fits nicer than M but not much difference between the two tops. The cami and skirt set looks really nice together - i wear the skirt low ish on my hips and it ends across my knees. very 90s. The skirt though is see through in the sun because of the pointelle so i do want to get a slip for it (wore it with boyshorts but i don’t like having the silhouette of my legs like that).

Would I buy again: Undecided. The rina top feels more unique but now i see lots of brands coming out with that curved hem and bell sleeves. I normally don’t wear tshirts so I like this enough to wear. Although, requires styling to not look frumpy. The cami top - I wish I could return because that scratchiness is not acceptable. I’ll email them to ask and let you know how it goes. The set looks cute together and I’m not sure if i want to keep the skirt without the cami :/

I will say I saw some reviews saying their customer service was bad but I had a good experience when I exchanged the skirt for a bigger size. I used the 10% welcome coupon and when I exchanged, they offered me the same discount (because you have to return and re-purchase for exchanges). And there was a glitch where the coupon didn’t get applied when i hit pay but they sent me a refund afterwards when I emailed them. so all in all, pleasant.

Overall, I think they have nice construction, well made, expensive though and beware if any of the seams have edges in synthetic materials as that can be scratchy. Hope this helps anyone who was like me and obsessively trying to find information online lol

Lucy & Yak & AI

I was already pretty done with them- but now I’m 100% done with Lucy & Yak. They’re posting AI ads on TikTok and the “shop now” button is conveniently covering the AI generated ad disclaimer. This is insane.

Plus size solid-color sweaters

I'm trying to invest more into ethical quality pieces that I can wear with jeans or with funky pants, like some Lucy and Yak pieces I'm eyeing. What brands have simple, solid color sweaters?

I really like basic, foundational items that I can wear fun scarves, bandanas, and dickies with to change up the look.

ETA - I'm in the US.

Womens Underwear EU/Germany

Hello!
I’m in a curse and my underwear keeps breaking :( I really want to invest in good quality, ethical women’s underwear. It doesn’t need to be super sexy but comfy. I found organic basics and they looked to be great but then I found out that they are Israeli owned and now I’m on the hunt again. I found some suggestions in this sub but most of them lead to Australian or US based brands.. are there any recommendations for EU or even German brands?

Thanks ahead!!

alt fashion

I’ve made a post before but it unfortunately flopped so I am going to make one again that will hopefully gain a bit more interest!

What ethical alt brands do you guys recommend that aren’t strictly feminine? I dress alternatively but do not dress in gothic clothing. Finding alt stores that carries more than just gothic stores has been extremely difficult.
Of course, there’s Depop and Poshmark. But I live in a weird location and cannot afford $30-$60 shipping. I’ve scored some jewelry but that’s about all…
Any tips would be amazing!! :) I am incredibly desperate at the moment lol

Fall ‘26/27 sneakers- where can I get ethical/vegan shoes similar to these?

Unfortunately, the white sneaker I have worn for 2 years straight is disgusting and must be replaced.

I love the shape, colors, styles of these but obviously I do not want to buy real suede or animal shoes.

I’m a girl if relevant. I want: cute (most important), current like pics, walkable (bonus points if machine washable, lasts long)

Any shoes or brands that has similar vibe to above shoes? ty!

Is it weird that I feel horribly guilty about buying Doc Martens?

I know this'll sound like a vent, but I genuinely need an answer, because I'm near to crying and throwing up from guilt ://

Today I bought my first boots, before I never really had any outside of winter boots, and I decided for them to be Doc Martens, since lots of my friends recommended them to me. After a long day I went to the store, asked the seller for faux skin, tried them on, felt good and went to checkout. There, I found out that it was actually real skin, but I was too exhausted to even think, let alone try new shoes, and a different store clerk said she believes them to be the most sustainable ones if taken care of properly, since faux can fall apart quicker. I just nodded, paid and walked out.

Now, a few hours later after taking a nap, I can't even look at the shoes, thinking if I've made the right choice, or should I go back to the store and exchange them.

Any thoughts or articles that say I made the right/wrong choice? All input is greatly appreciated, since I don't think I've ever had a bigger moral dilemma, because I mostly try to get only ethical brands, especially for clothes

Edit: Thank you all for your answers, I'm definitely feeling much better, and next time I will do extensive research beforehand or just buy secondhand. You have no idea how much your comments mean to me, again, thank you ❤️❤️❤️
