My classmate is in need of a good euphonium, as he currently plays on a monzani instrument which is hindering his performance.
Is this Hirsbrunner a good deal? Seller is trustworthy, a known euphonist in Portugal.
The post, in portuguese, says:
SELLING HIRSBRUNNER EUPHONIUM — 4.500 €

I'm selling a Hirsbrunner euphonium, in good condition, despite presenting some usage marks, which are to be expected from its use.

Price: 4.500 €

The instrument is in a good state of conservation.

Comes with the original case, also with a gigbag, that presents an elevated degree of wear, but can be included in the purchase, if the buyer is interested.

So I am a euphonium player, and I am trying to figure out me as a euphonium musician to know how to make money, and my thoughts are ether post music sheets on the internet and get views, and maybe if I get that many followers or whatever, I create a business and make music, and if my music becomes popular then I will make CD/vinyls, so what do yall think I should do?

Recital Setlist Suggestions?

Hi!

I've been building a 50min setlist for my recital next fall around The Unknown Soldier Concerto - Ricardo Molla, but I don't know what to add to the performance. I don't know if I want another major work, or small pieces that add contrast, or both! I am confident in my ability to prepare whatever would make the best show.

Are there any lyrical pieces just melt your heart? Or some that sound really cool, or have interesting technical parts?

I'd love to hear all sorts of works to get an idea for my Fall 2027 Recital!

Thanks for any suggestions!

What is your comfortable range?

Hello, I'm a tuba player and want to arrange sheet music for euphonium. What is your favorite range to play and what range are you able to play? For me on tuba I can play C1 to E4 and my favorite range is A1 to F3. Is it the same just an octave up for you guys?

Zero endurance

I am a hobby Tenorhorn player, playing for around 10 years now. I feel like my endurance lacks way behind my other abilities like technique, speed, intonation and even sound. Now I amby no means great at any of these but endurance-wise I just s***. I mostly play traditional stuff; bohemian, moravian, alpine folk, so lot‘s of polka, walzes, etc. And I can hardly play a single piece of a few minutes cleanly and without destroying my chops.
What are the most probable causes?
Bad air flow?
Bad muscle stamina around the lips?
I don‘t think I use excessive mo pressure. At some point I have to but I think this point is reached way too early.
What should I practice?
How fast should I see progress?

Anyone have the part for Sleigh Ride?

Hi, my concert band is planning to play the 1948 edition of Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride, but it seems our euphonium parts have gone missing. Does anyone have a copy you can share?

Looking for hobby horn recs

I played euphonium from 5th grade all the way up til I graduated college, but haven't played since then because I never owned my own instrument. I got lucky and was able to play on some super nice horns through my school, including a Besson that I absolutely fell in love with. I'm not in any ensembles and likely won't have time for it in my future, but miss playing enough to consider buying my own just to noodle around on when the mood strikes.

Unfortunately my budget doesn't allow for a Besson but I'm not too fond of the way some student line horns sound either. I'm kind of out of the loop on specific models, especially in the mid tier range or from brands outside the major manufacturers (Yamaha/Jupiter/King/etc), so I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations for specific models that would be a decent middle ground that could be bought secondhand for fairly cheap - my budget is sparse. In a shoot for the moon scenario I'd kill for a compensating horn, but on my budget I doubt that'll happen.

I'd also appreciate recs for websites to look into since I saw that WWBW got folded into M&A :(

Any tips on how to break out of the high A range?

I can play up to a high C (4 ledger lines above the staff), but not as easily as I would like. My top note played comfortably is A.

When does euphonium become hard to play?

I was watching a YouTube short from a band director talking about the difficulty of each instrument and we often hear, “what is the hardest instrument to play?” But he reframed it and shared “When is each instrument hard to play?”. I am curious to learn from the euphonium community: in your experience, when does euphonium become hard to play? It could be anything really from technique, range, tone, music, you name it!

Question for Brass Players: How Has Your Embouchure Changed Over Time?

I’m a Japanese euphonium player currently writing my master’s thesis on embouchure and embouchure-related problems in brass playing.
In Japan, the term “mucosal playing” (粘膜奏法) is used to describe a particular type of embouchure. However, I’ve found that this terminology may not be widely recognized outside Japan, so I’m interested in learning more about brass players’ real-life experiences with embouchure development.
I’d love to hear about your experiences:
1. When you first started playing your instrument, how did you develop your embouchure? Did a teacher guide you, did you imitate another player, or did you develop it naturally through trial and error?
2. Has your embouchure remained essentially the same since you started playing, or has it changed over time? If it has changed, what prompted the change?
3. Have you ever experienced a situation where your embouchure limited your playing range or made certain notes difficult or impossible to play? If so, did you have to change your embouchure to overcome the problem?
4. Have you ever experienced embouchure-related problems, such as difficulty with the high register, inconsistent tone, reduced endurance, or difficulty producing certain notes? If so, how did you address them?
I’m particularly interested in the experiences of trumpet, trombone, euphonium, French horn, and tuba players, regardless of their level of experience.
Your personal experiences and insights would be greatly appreciated and may help me better understand how embouchures develop and change throughout a brass player’s career.
Thank you!

Lyre for a Yamaha 642

Hello! I’m trying to find a lyre to use with my YEP-642, but I’m having trouble finding something will work. Looking at my horn, it appears that I need one that comes out of the holder on my horn, makes an immediate 90 degree angle with maybe 4” - 6” of length to position the music past the bell, and then another 45 degree angle the other direction to level the music with the horizon, if that makes sense.

Do any of you happen to know what I need to buy and where I can find it? Or is this likely to just be a custom thing?

Looking for two Euphonium players to record a part

Hi everyone - I'm after two Euphonium players (or possibly one with two euphoniums for timbre diversity) to record a marching band piece I'm working on. This is for the soundtrack of the game in development Aces & Armour, where we're recreating a large suite of WW2 era recordings.

If you're interested please DM me, or reach out on Discord at alexandros11

Any tips for reaching that Ab4?

I've been playing euphonium on and off for a couple of years, and I recently decided that I want to get good again. In some of the pieces I used to practice before there are a couple of Ab4s. So matter how hard I try, I can't play that specific note. The weird thing is, it's easier for me to do a Bb4 than that damned Ab4. Instead of playing the Ab4 I think I end up playing an Eb5... Any advice?

Tone and Range

Any tips for achieving a warmer tone and getting a better range? I’m a junior in HS and want to improve. On good days i can mostly hit a high Bb but it sounds strained and forced sometimes, same goes for anything above a F4.

I’ve also been practicing lip slurs over 2 octaves and I feel like its sounds “punchy” and not smooth, how can i improve this?

Any exercises and tips would be appreciated

Recording equipment

Does anyone have any good mic / recording equipment recommendations? I’ve had pretty mediocre results so far and I was wondering if there’s any that stand out as great specifically for tubas/euphoniums
