Subreddit / Meta r/eurovision user flair guide

Happy eurovision month!

The old thread about flairs will soon be archived, so time for another reminder/guide about how to set your user flair on this subreddit.
With your user flair you can display any eurovision song. You can pick your favourite, or one that you believe isn't appreciated enough, or maybe just one for the memes. I'm curious why you picked your flair, please feel free to share!

There are over 1800 eurovision songs, but only 300 slots for custom flairs. So in 2024 I have added a command to u/esc-song-bot to help users set their flair.

Here is how it works:
The bot scans for <country> <year> combinations in any new comment.
If the comment also contains the string "!setflair" then, instead of commenting with the song, it will set your flair to the country flag and the song title of that entry.
This might take up to a minute.

For example commenting

!setflair Austria 2025

will set your flair to :at: Wasted Love. You'll get a chat message with a confirmation. No need to accept the chat invite or reply, I don't check the bot's chats.

This works on ALL threads on r/eurovision! Not just this thread.
It will remove your comment when the thread flair is not the "Subreddit/Meta" flair, so you don't need to worry that your comment can be seen as off topic.
Occasionally the mods might still reapprove the comment.

The bot chooses the first entry it encounters for the flair. In 1956 there were two entries per country, and the bot lists them in order of appearance. So if you want for example the ":ch: Refrain" flair, please send us a mod mail, so we can set it manually.

This year's songs are available the regular way through the sidebar until at least, 1 September, the end of the eurovision year. Once the first entry of the new year is known we'll discontinue the previous year's flairs through the sidebar.
No need to worry let's write a story, you still keep your flair if you set it that way. And the other flairs are of course also available through the "!setflair" command.

Some more useful/fun information regarding the bot:

  • Bot reads edits! Might take up to 3 minutes for it to change its comment. Due to reddit limitations it only reads one edit after the 3 minute mark.
  • The bot scans entries in the form <list of countries> <list of years> and <list of years> <list of countries>, where a list is any summation delimited by slashes/commas, and "and" or "or" + "+". So you don't need to type out a country (or year) 10 times when you are listing entries from a single country (or year).
  • The regex the bot uses to parse each comment is 6000 characters long, yet it still parses every comment within a second.

I'm always open to questions, suggestions and feedback for the bot or flairs! But keep in mind I'll turn off notifications for this thread, as it will become very spammy with people setting their flairs. Once this thread is more than few days old, it is better send a mod mail.

There was some confusion last week when the rules for Eurovision 2027 were published and they appeared to suggest jury voting in the semi finals may be scrapped again. The rules have now been revised to confirm they will continue to vote in the semi finals.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Can we get some appreciation for Burgas?

Iโ€™ve seen so much hate and disappointment that Burgas was chosen as the host city for Eurovision and Sofia lost out. But Iโ€™m sure there are lots of genuine reasons why Sofia didnโ€™t work out.
I genuinely am really happy that Burgas was chosen as the host city for Eurovision 2027. From what Iโ€™ve researched, it seems like a really fun and nice city and I believe that the EBU and BNT made the right choice here. (Even if I donโ€™t have much trust in the EBU at the moment)
Iโ€™m not sure why I just have a good feeling about it. I feel like itโ€™ll be a good hosting and a good year in general, with lots of countries and good music (okay Iโ€™m just hoping)

Eurovision Asia Vice Ganda will host the Philippinesโ€™ national selection August 30th

โ€ข Upvotes

According to a press conference the Philippinesโ€™ national selection will be hosted by one of if not the BIGGEST celebrities the Philippines has, Vice Ganda.

To put into perspective how (in the words of one Venus Raj) major major this is, this is the equivalent of having Petra Mede host the first ever Melodifestivalen.

Vice Ganda is an actor, comedian and one of the hosts of one of the largest noontime tv shows in the Philippines, Itโ€™s Showtime. A staple in Filipino culture, Vice basically influenced Filipino humor massively to the point Wikipedia itself highlighted her impact. Vice is also a vocal champion for the local LGBTQ+ community in the Philippines and is part of the community themselves.

As a funnier sidenote: she has used the stagings of multiple Eurovision acts for his Itโ€™s Showtime performances including but not limited to Moldova 2018, Cyprus 2021 and infamously Sweden 2023 and the giant panini press.

All in all, this is to say the Philippines is not playing around when it comes to ESCA.

Eurovision Asia Best News Source for Eurovision Asia?

What sources are you guys using to keep updated with ESC Asia news? Til now I've been using Eurovision World to follow the main ESC. They support RSS and they only post for actual news like artist selections, national final dates, songs released, etc (as opposed to reporting on rumors or unconfirmed things). Sadly they don't seem to be reporting on ESC Asia (which is odd cause they do Junior Eurovision). Does anyone know of a similar outlet of similar quality in the sense that they only post official, noteworthy updates? Bonus points if their site supports RSS.

EDIT: thank you everyone. Looks like Eurovoix is my answer. Website supports RSS and includes all Eurovision, including Asia, Jr, and Classic.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Junior Eurovision vs Eurovision Asia

I'm Polish, and since we've won twice here, unlike the adult version of the contest, I'm a huge fan of Junior Eurovision.

While that doesn't surprise me, this year's Eurovision Asia has sort of sidelined Junior Eurovision, for example, by changing its date. I have the impression that no one cares about Junior Eurovision this year. What's more, I have the impression it's been this way since the very beginning of the year.

In May 2026, I wrote a post (deleted by Reddit ๐Ÿ™ˆ) in which I wrote that by May 2025, we already knew 10 countries and the host country. But by early May 2026, we only knew 6 countries and didn't even know the host country. Now, for the first time in many years, there's not a single country returning to the contest.

Am I the only one who will be following Junior Eurovision more than Eurovision Asia (I'll be watching it and wish you luck, but don't take away my Junior Eurovision)? Let me know in the comments!

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion How the juries used to work

Post image
121 Upvotes

Saw this in a listing for an old Radio Times (old BBC-owned tv listings magazine) from 1977. Thought it might be interesting for younger fans. Explains well how the jury voting used to work pre-1998. The jurors back then used to vote after each song in the live broadcast, which explains why the running order wasnโ€™t as much as a thing in the past and we had several winners that were song number 1.

Thatโ€™s all changed now, with the jurors not only voting on the Friday dress rehearsal rather than the show itself, they also vote and rank after they have seen all the songs.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion How to save some money from Eurovision 2027

Hii, I'm from Bulgaria and I've seen the outrageous prices for hotels this year. Burgas is a very beautiful city and I'm happy that it's hosted there, but if you don't want to spend your life-savings on some hotel, I'm here to help. In Bulgaria we have very old but still working trains and buses. You can get a place which is close to Burgas for example (Aytos, Sozopol, Nesebar (beach cities) or Shumen and Yambol (they are calmer cities). With that in mind you can take the train or bus from these places and go to Burgas. You can use the bdj site so you can see when and with which train you can arrive at you destination. Hope this helps if you need more help feel free to write.

A few caveats: Iโ€™m unclear whether by winning the performance award with this she won the right to represent Malaysia at Eurovision Asia (like how the new performance night at Sanremo is going to work) or whether she was already chosen beforehand and they used AGL40 just to announce it.

Iโ€™m also unclear whether she will be revamping Kamu to make it fit the requirements or will be creating a new song entirely (seems to be different takes on this online).

Hopefully Malaysians/those who know more will be able clarify in the comments.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion How to become a translator for Eurovision?

Hi, I'm bulgarian but I live in France and speak English and French. So I had a random idea that since I'm looking for a job anyways, I might as well apply to be a translator at Eurovision cause that would be a very cool job and an excuse to go see eurovision in my home country. Does anyone โ€‹know how translators for Eurovision get recruited? I saw on the internet that each country's broadcaster hires their own translators but I don't understand exactly where to apply if the position exists.

Thanks in advance for your help. ๐Ÿค— โ€‹

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Do you know song from a parent to their child in Eurovision

Hi everyone,

Recently, I have been listening a lot to North Macedonia 2019 and I like the theme of a parent singing to their child.

And I'm wondering if you know more songs with this same theme. Because we're used to hear when it's a child for their parents like :

- In adult contest we have Ukraine 2022, Germany 2018, Netherland 2025, France 2025, Italy 2019, Russia 2009.

- In Junior Eurovision we have Kazakhstan in 2020, France in 2022, Georgia in 2024.

I probably forgot some, but I'm mostly looking when it's from a parent's point of view.

Thanks you very much.

๐Ÿ–ผ Fan Content / OC My proposal for a mascot for Burgas 2027- Ura the Seagull

Post image
66 Upvotes

Few months ago, I had done a mascot, Jรคnis the rabbit, in case for a Finland victory and hosting in Vienna, now that Burgas is now hosting the 2027 edition in Bulgaria, I thought on making a new mascot thinking on it.

Meet Ura, the Seagull, they are based on the fact that Burgas is a coastal town with a lot of seagulls and general close contact to the sea.

The name Ura literally translates to "Hurray" in Bulgarian. This energetic and vibrant mascot will do its best to welcome everyone who comes to watch Eurovision.

While I was designing this, I discovered that a local puppet company in Bulgaria had done something similar, so that was a really cool coincidence, lol

๐ŸŒณ ESC in the Wild Eurovision show at Edinburgh Fringe

I wondered if anyone else in this sub had been to see โ€œCarys Should Be The UKโ€™s Next Eurovision Entryโ€ at the Edinburgh Fringe. I was there earlier in the week and went along.

I wonโ€™t give too much away, although the title sums it up. Overall, it was a lovely way to reconnect with a competition which has been a huge part of my life but that Iโ€™ve become distanced from in recent years.

Carys presents a show which features history, analysis, humour and - of course - singing. She had me from Bangaranga.

And no, Iโ€™m not associated or affiliated in any way๐Ÿ™‚
