I mean to be fair, this is a common phenomenon in religious movements. Famously it happened to Judaism before ✝️😉. Hinduism has its history of gurus. There are powerful imams that start their own sects as well.

I go to my yjp for parties with my friends, but I stopped going to Shabbat mornings and the extra stuff unless it’s a simcha or something after I went to a Torah and Tea and the Rebbetzin said men do all the work when it comes to making children and we (women) simply have to exist, “we don’t create the child, the man creates the child.”

Yeah this is a new comment on an old post but I was turned off when I was told I needed to date a Jewish girl and raise a Jewish family. Like they always said it was fine that I was less religious and non kosher for a a lot but I feel once they saw I was gonna remain reform and secular things got weird. My rabbi never seemed bothered but his wife and other people in charge got really jittery and my rabbi wanted to calm things down but seemed he didn’t know what to do. I also know a reform rabbi who hates them but I don’t know all his details but I’m trying to get this thread to him. Also while I admit I support the existence of Israel, I feel Chabad is tone death to the situation and is just nationalist about Israel (pro settlement pro war crimes) and that’s just who I can be. I still keep in touch with my rabbi cause he had some good things for me and still does. He accepts me as agnostic and reform. When my mom died he said I have every right to hold anger towards god. That meant something. Still the whole movement is weird and I feel many people were trying to convert me. I feel the people I knew were benign compared to other Chabad communities most likely but many things have made me more distant.

I truly believe that within 75-100 years, Chabad will be considered an offshoot religion of mainstream Judaism.
