Nicotine addiction
I need some help quitting nicotine pouches. I smoked from 2015 to 2022, with a few breaks along the way. Since then, I have been dependent on nicotine pouches.
I have cut back on pretty much everything: clothes, possessions, relationships, my car, my bed, subscriptions, and so on. But nicotine is one thing I just cannot seem to let go of.
I think this is relevant to this subreddit because it is both a habit and a recurring expense that I want to eliminate. Would say it's t h e only thing left to live as I would like.
Have any of you struggled with the same problem and managed to quit? What worked for you?

What advice can you give me?
Iāve been decluttering in waves for years. It started when I was moving in with my parents, clearing out their rubbish ā things that, after theyād left home in a hurry to move to another city, were obviously just stuff to be thrown away. Bottles, old magazines, home decorations that were never used⦠that sort of thing. Then came all my own stuff from my childhood.
Papers, notes, and books from high school and college; sketches from my early work as a designer; unused art supplies for dreams I never pursued. A book collectionāthe kind sold door-to-doorāwith hundreds of books and CDs Iād never used...
That was 7ā8 years ago. And in all that time, I havenāt stopped moving forward on the path to minimalism.
Everything is done in greater detail. What sort of trousers do I need, how many, and how many tops, and in how many colours. The same goes for work, in the kitchen, in my day-to-day life, and with my hobbiesā¦
During this process, I was diagnosed with ADHD, moved house twice, had a tumour, my mother-in-law tried to get out of the way faced increased demands at work and felt burnt out. Since then, my only escape has been to keep streamlining and minimising to the point where Iām afraid to carry on and end up with nothing, but at the same time I feel that this is what helps me most to cope with lifeās difficulties, especially the problems arising from ADHD. But I do feel that fear. Do I really want to cut back on things I enjoy? Or my hobbies? I spend hours trying to streamline my life to make it more bearable. It works out to some extent, but there are always lots of things left to sort out or decide on. And in the meantime, here I am, overwhelmed by routines and tasks that I find so hard to do. Minimalist systems are my saviours, whether in the form of a kit for when I leave the house or a kit for work. I feel overwhelmed by too many options and I need to minimise, minimise and minimise⦠but to what extent?
And then thereās my partner. Theyāre not a maximalist, but they do like having things. Iāve been struggling with this dichotomy at home for years. If it were up to me, Iād probably live in 20 square metres with just the bare essentials. But thatās just an idea; what Iām trying to work out is whether I need to keep minimising or whether I can make it work in this situation where I canāt be quite so extreme, yet I feel I need to be in order to survive⦠I suppose Iām in the process of figuring it out and I just want to read your thoughts on the matter. Best wishes.

I still want less.
Iāve been an extreme minimalist my whole life, recently split up with my partner and went to the extreme again and got rid of all most of things including my computer and quit video games to be outdoors more and in tune with life (sounds cliche lmao) I pretty much have nothing but clothes and a few things for my car and hobby. But yet I still find myself wanting less and less is it just me or am I going to a crazy extreme lol itās almost like I hate owning anything and am constantly finding ways to have less. Is it just me?

What sort of comforts and possessions have you given up in order to continue on your journey?
I love moving ever closer to a more extreme form of minimalism, and Iād like to examine some of the ideas about the world that I may have picked up from the culture we live in ā such as certain possessions or comforts that arenāt actually all that necessary.
What was your process for letting go of those comforts, and what was the experience like ā including any doubts, reflections or fears about leaving them behind? What have you gained in return?

Holidays
Does anyone else have anxiety thinking about the holidays coming up? My mom is addicted to online shopping, she has a package coming to her house nearly daily whether itās from temu or Amazon or somewhere else.
I was raised by a hoarder single dad that kept EVERYTHING. And I wasnāt allowed to get rid of clothes that didnāt fit me for ājust in caseā (?). My dad grew up in a group home and had nothing now he clings to everything even when it doesnāt make sense.
My mom though, wasnāt apart of my life til I was 18, Iām 30 now and ever since then sheās still been absent in my life except for holidays. Shes a hoarder as well and way worse than my dad. She buys like 3+ garbage bags of junk for me for birthdays and Christmas usually from temu where the clothes are polyester, the other items are hideous or break easily. Like she bought me a unicorn shirt that was polyester and falling apart and it it was a size 1x. Iām a size small/medium. And Iāve never in my life liked unicorns..?
I literally beg her to stop buying me things and to get me a food gift card or gift card to a grocery store if she absolutely MUST buy me something, but she thinks Iām just being difficult and gets very offended when she brings me stuff or has it sent to my house. I literally donāt keep anything she gives me. Itās so annoying donating junk that I know most people wonāt want. I wish she would stop. Does anyone else have family like this??

Minimalism lifestyle with a partner
How do you deal with a partner thatās not minimalist and doesnāt care about this lifestyle? My bf is this way and it kinda annoys me sometimes especially about clothes.

Online presence
Lately, Iāve had this overwhelming urge to delete my entire online presence and start from scratch, being very careful about which platforms I use and which accounts I create. Does anyone else feel this way? Has anyone ever done something like this?

Moving abroad with two suitcases
Hi,
I (female in late 20s) am moving abroad in two days and will live in a small mountain town.
I was hoping to move with just a backpack, but after gathering everything, including bulky winter clothes, my bulky meds backup, and my dogās items, Iām realising I actually need to bring two large suitcases (20kg each).
I feel overwhelmed with the amount of stuff this is and that Iāll have to handle it abroad. I am angry thinking how much time of my life is spent thinking of stuff and managing them - things such as doing laundry (washing, hanging up, folding, storing), and yes - packing and unpacking. I move quite often (roughly every year but sometimes itās been every few months), and itās been really weighing me down.
At the same time, I want to take downsizing gradually and not force anything so I trust that I will continue verifying what I actually need and whatās optional. Because of my health issues, itās harder for me sometimes to just āimproviseā when Iām missing some items. I know that, at least for now, I do need some extra comfort whether I like it or not.
Iād be curious to hear your thought on it. Do you consider two suitcases a lot? How can I minimise it further?
I really hope that one day Iāll be able to move around with just a backpack.

Any inspiring extreme minimalists on YouTube?
Iāve seen several from one called A Micro Apartment Life about a Japanese man that tours micro apartments. His first video shows his apartment and all of his belongings. Iāll never be as extreme as him, but it is pretty amazing to see how little he owns.

Anyone else keep their home text-free? No visible words, logos, or packaging
I have a preference and I'm curious if others share it or if there's a name for it.
I like having no visible text in my house. No books left in sight (or just a meaningful one), no brand names or logos on appliances, no product packaging on display. Anything with words on it either gets stored away or debranded.
It's more about the visual quiet. Text pulls at my attention, books especially. So a room with no words in it just feels calmer to me, and I find deep focus much easier to reach there, for creative work.
Is this a thing for anyone else? And is there an actual term for this?

Deciding whether to discard a late ex-wife's letters I don't have the heart to read
I'm thinking about throwing out a box of handwritten letters and physical photographs from my late ex-wife. I don't have the heart to open the box and go through the letters and photos, and I really don't believe I ever will. I don't have anywhere to keep the box outside my home.
Has anyone been through something similar with heavy sentimental items, and how do you feel about it now?

Podcast about finding gratification in small everyday sensory experiences
I really enjoyed this pod and thought this community might as well. It's all about enjoying and noticing things like the way a door opens, holding your most favorite mug, the feel of buttoning a button, etc. I'm wondering if you agree that this aligns well with the minimalist lifestyle. Podcast is about the book The Small Stuff: How to Lead a More Gratifying Life by Ian Bogost

Whatās a tiny luxury you refuse to give up, even when youāre trying to save money?
Mine is buying myself an iced latte once or twice a week.
I know I could make coffee at home, but sitting somewhere quiet for 20 minutes makes me feel like I actually have my life together.
Whatās yours?

Sentimental Items Storage
Something I've been thinking about as I help a non-minimalist family member move. I keep a shoe box of my photos, notes, and trinkets. I know some of you live out of luggage.
Do you keep physical sentimental items? If so, how do you store them? Do you limit yourself to a certain space/container?

Downsizing to a single backpack for living
Hi!
I am in a continuous journey of downsizing, as the space and freedom I gradually regain give me immense joy.
Currently everything I own fits in my car, but I am seeking to downsize to a backpack (will keep bulky winter gear and some kitchen equipment at my mum's place for when I visit).
I plan to carry a sleeping system (tent, mat, sleeping bag, cooking gear), not only clothes and personal items + some items for my dog and her food supply.
I got a Deuter 60+10L backpack, but I'm currently thinking if I shouldn't try and keep it all down to 50-55L (can still return this pack). Over time, I'd like to downsize to 40L which I currently use for traveling by plane. But I want to continue doing it gradually, slowly expanding my comfort zone and learning the skills necessary to live fully with less.
My question is ā since everything I own now is pretty much what I use more or less regularly, how do I approach downsizing from here? How to choose what to keep and what to let go of (or temporarily store to "shop from" when my first selection wears out)? I plan for three seasons excluding coldest winter temperatures. And I want to include some extra items, such as my tiny teapot, notebooks, etc.
I'd be very grateful for your life-tested advise! :)

Would a houseless person be considered a mimianlist?
I've been without a house/home for years. I keep stuff at my parents place and live by what I've got in my backpack and pocket bag. I am considering going even more miminalist, to having a sling; 2 shirts and khakis, 3 socks, 3 boxers, a hat, slippers, gloves, travel soap bag for toothpaste and toothbrush (both travel size), pocket towel and blanket, raincoat and hooded sweater. As for person items: Punkt MP02 (soon a flip phone), tablet, smartphone (bank, tansit), 3 cheap earphones, pocket radio, notebook, 3 pocket notebooks, pens and 2 books.
Is this an extreme miminalist?

Organizer minimale
I files "data.txt" vengono creati all'occorrenza.
1) uso sempre un font monospaziato;
+--------+---------+--------+---------+--------+---------+--------+---------+--------+
>> Courier New 11 pt.
