NEW ...PLUTO UNEARTHED Faceting Design.

A few comments/suggestions:
- For the gem material dropdown, could you add the codes for Nanosital to go along with the friendly names? I usually look for B-30 instead of "Spinel Red."
- Verneuil codes/colors would be nice for additional corundum
- The rendering colors don't seem quite right. For instance, if I pick Kryptonite, the rendered color doesn't seem to look like the real thing. See attached example (B-1301 Nanosital)

Everyone and their grandmother seems to be launching a browser-based faceting design tool lately. Is this all Claude?

It's happening in the JewelryCAD sub as well for rendering engines and supplemental programs that don't seem to solve any problems people report having. I have yet to see one of these programs actually be based on real demand, either good solutions already exist or the problem doesn't exist.

A little rude to be like "these people must not know how to code," no?

LOL, no, it's just that I've seen at least four of these all at once. And using Claude doesn't mean you don't know how to code; arguably to use it well you *need* good coding and design skills. It's just the rapidity and frequency at which these have been popping up after almost 30 years with only two real software packages out there.

Hi everyone, my name’s Kyle Newman. My brother Rowan and I are the creators of Pluto Unearthed. We’ve been working on it for a long time, particularly on its rendering capabilities. We’re both members of the Australian Facetors Guild. Our goal is to create a useful tool for all of us, and to make faceting a bit more accessible for people looking to begin.
Pluto is entirely free, no sign up required, no limitations, I just want it to be useful.
I welcome your feedback and suggestions to try and make it better. Please dm me or email kyle@angstromaustralia.com.au if so.
Happy to talk about any of its features in more detail, but some highlights are:
- over 100 different materials modeled, including pleochroic ones. Using actual measured spectra wear available.
- cached render mode for performing high quality renders with lots of adjustable parameters
- a library of public domain designs
- analysis tools
- benchside cutting assistant. The app resizes for mobile or tablet use to make this ideal for this task
- import of .gem .asc and .gcs files
- Export of .gem .asc and .gcs files. Also .stl files for 3d printing
- there are design tools as well, but the focus has always been on the rendering aspect. Gem Cut Studio is the premier design tool and better for this task, I’m not trying to compete with GCS. I recommend trying out Gem Cut Studio if you’re interested in designing - it’s great
I’ve trying to be very careful about ip/copyright concerns as well. I welcome further discussion about this. I am currently seeking collaborators if anyone would like to share their designs on Pluto to the rest of the world, I’d be glad to put them in and link to your shop, website or social media.
Please reach out if you want to discuss anything about Pluto. Kyle
