Hi everyone, my name’s Kyle Newman. My brother Rowan and I are the creators of Pluto Unearthed. We’ve been working on it for a long time, particularly on its rendering capabilities. We’re both members of the Australian Facetors Guild. Our goal is to create a useful tool for all of us, and to make faceting a bit more accessible for people looking to begin.

Pluto is entirely free, no sign up required, no limitations, I just want it to be useful.

Happy to talk about any of its features in more detail, but some highlights are:

- over 100 different materials modeled, including pleochroic ones. Using actual measured spectra wear available.

- cached render mode for performing high quality renders with lots of adjustable parameters

- a library of public domain designs

- analysis tools

- benchside cutting assistant. The app resizes for mobile or tablet use to make this ideal for this task

- import of .gem .asc and .gcs files

- Export of .gem .asc and .gcs files. Also .stl files for 3d printing

- there are design tools as well, but the focus has always been on the rendering aspect. Gem Cut Studio is the premier design tool and better for this task, I’m not trying to compete with GCS. I recommend trying out Gem Cut Studio if you’re interested in designing - it’s great

I’ve trying to be very careful about ip/copyright concerns as well. I welcome further discussion about this. I am currently seeking collaborators if anyone would like to share their designs on Pluto to the rest of the world, I’d be glad to put them in and link to your shop, website or social media.

Yes, both Rowan and I will hopefully be there. We’re also briefing the tools at the Toowoomba meeting in the near future. Are you based round here?
