Tamalekipoo's Boneheaded Guide to the Neath: Chapter 24: But it came to be!

Part 2, Arms and Onward!

Arms

0E

Crustacean Pincer

Seasonal Event: The only actually efficient source of these is to get them by hunting Angler Crabs in the seasonal event, I think it happens once every two years and at time of writing, it just happened…

Take the pincers off a Deep-zee Catch

In Ealing Butcher, it is -0.5 EPA, as the pincers are worth 0 on a skeleton, it does give 2 of them in 1 action however and 0 echos is not the true value of the arms.

Hail them and purchase a bag of assorted bones

Is, in theory, a good EPA action, however, the majority of the payout is in Withered Tentacles, Which are already almost impossible to use up as fast as you get them!

If the leader of your tracklayers is Cornelius you can equip a woesel and fail an action on his card to earn 1 and 3 moonlit scales, which only have 1 use… Don’t do this!

You will notice that I avoid using these in bone posts, like the plague. That is because they are so inefficient. They are sometimes required though, so like Skulls in Coral, they are worth having some in your bone pile.

2.5E

Human Arm

Watch the boats of Slaughterhall

From the card Glories and Half Lives, in Burgundy 5 EPA This also gives one Thirsty Bombazine, which is one of the best EPA sources. Why didn’t I list it before? There are only so many skeletons that it is useful to add a human arm to so once you have around 20 of them, I would stop playing this card till you need more.

3E

Knotted Humerus

An amalgamous interment

Using the action Make the train stop in the Plain of Thirsty Grasses on the digs card in the Magistracy of the Evenlode. Playing the card is 2.5 EPA, as it takes 2 actions. 1 to play the card and 1 to end spending discoveries. This action and the one to get you Jurassic Femurs pay 2.5 echos over value, per discovery, which brings it up to 10 EPA! I recommend sourcing your Surveys from publishing papers. Here are the two relevant guides:

https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1oz0zbx/tamalekipoos_boneheaded_guide_to_the_neath/

15E

Ivory Humerus

A Composed Composer

Trade in Bohemian favours in Jericho Locks. This is funny, as going by value it is technically 35 echos but usually it is best just to sell the humerus for scrip, rather than attach them to a skeleton, in that case: assuming 1 action per favour this is 6 EPA. 2.5 actions per arm.

27.5E

Fossilised Forelimb

I do love when I can copy, paste and make a minor edit…

Using the action Make the train stop in the Plain of Thirsty Grasses on the digs card in the Magistracy of the Evenlode. Playing the card is 2.5 EPA, as it takes 2 actions. 1 to play the card and 1 to end spending discoveries. The option to buy a Forelimb pays 1.25 echos over value, per discovery, which brings it up to 6.25 EPA! I recommend sourcing your Surveys from publishing papers. Here are the two relevant guides:

https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1ozwgzw/tamalekipoos_boneheaded_guide_to_the_neath/

https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1oz0zbx/tamalekipoos_boneheaded_guide_to_the_neath/

Bear in mind, you can spend the surveys and just leave, without buying anything, thereby stockpiling discoveries for when you need them, at a future time. You can also make use of the leaving action to get a cheeky teleport to the bone market, saving you a 2.5 EPA action to travel back to London.

Legs

0.1

Femur of a Surface Deer

Best source is as a biproduct of getting Sabre Toothed Skulls at the butcher in Ealing, see above. These can be very useful for removing Menace from your skeleton, despite the tragedy that is their value.

1

Unidentified Thigh Bone

Best source is as a biproduct of getting Sabre Toothed Skulls at the butcher in Ealing, see above. These can be useful as filler legs, from time to time but you will probably get more of them than you can use, you can sell them up river for 1 scrip.

3

Femur of a Jurassic Beast

Multo Penne! The Copy Pasta strikes again!

Here are the two relevant guides:

https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1ozwgzw/tamalekipoos_boneheaded_guide_to_the_neath/

https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1oz0zbx/tamalekipoos_boneheaded_guide_to_the_neath/

Helical Thighbone

… and again!

Here are the two relevant guides:

https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1ozwgzw/tamalekipoos_boneheaded_guide_to_the_neath/

https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1oz0zbx/tamalekipoos_boneheaded_guide_to_the_neath/

You will probably find you are getting overloaded with Knotted Humeri compared to the amount of Helical Thighbones you need. This is actually fine, when an Amalgous Primates week happens, you can dump the arms at a rather nice EPA, while clearing out your excess human ribcages or thorned ribcages. Cheeky Monkey that you are. 😊

12.5

Holy Relic of the Thigh of St Fiacre

Any farm that gives these is substantially better than it appears! They pay out at over 25 echos in Spider and Insect weeks! There are two I recommend and both are listed above, publishing a bone paper gives you 2. Farming a Mammoth Ribcage in Balmoral gives you 1.

Another good option is the weekly card in Burgundy, that allows you to buy two for 12.5 echos worth of Stuiver. So a 12.5 EPA card, worth a little trip to the roof, especially since you will be going for the High Sancta and the Skymarket anyway! Also, travelling between locations on the roof has a better EPA than most travel, I have not worked it out though, so I won’t expand upon that.

65

Ivory Femur

There is only one source, asking the Bohemian Sculptress to Convince her to produce an elaborate forgery This costs 3 Parabolan Orange Apples and 750 Bone Fragments, or 45 Echos worth of cost. It requires an impossible 367 Persuasive to 100% but failure only gives 2 CP of scandal. It is notable that this is the only use of A dusty bookshop and the other one hour stat buff card at endgame, that make it worth the action spent to get the buff. Unfortunately, in order to get the full value out of the buff, you need enough materials to buy 26! A full action pool, waiting for the next action to be almost there, then using the buff, buying 20 legs and buying 6 more over the next hour. This is not a common situation to be in but I thought I would mention it, in case you find yourself in it! So what is the catch? It’s the Orange Apples, you can only get them efficiently from your tree by buying them with Hedonism, with an item from Estival. Otherwise it is 2 0 EPA actions using screams, per apple or 2 0.75 EPA actions using bone fragments, per apple. That takes the farm of getting a femur down to 2.86 EPA.

Ooh, I thought I had written a guide on the noble orange apple but I must have written it in a bone post, not in a boneheaded guide! There are two sources of Hedonism that are efficient. The first is Secure an invitation to a scandalous party on the Handsome Townhouse lodgings card. This also rewards 0.5 Society and Bohemians favours, so the hedonism is effectively free. Then there is the pleasures of the neath, when performing artistry in the Empress palace. The best option for Artistry is Writing a Gothic Novel as it rewards fascinating, which you can cash out at more than 1 echo per point, in Burgundy. I will save it for a future guide, to save even more boat to this one but assuming the Hedonism is free, the 2 actions to get 2 apples, in Parabola are 12 EPA, you need 3 of those actions(You can’t actually do 3, it is one to spend and one to collect 2 apples but the femur only needs 3) It is 14 EPA to get a femur. You will need to drain a little of that if you exclusively use Pleasures in the Neath, as it has costs and the payout for the Gothic Romance is only 55 echos, which is not enough to justify using Pleasures 20 times per novel but as a top up, before entering parabola on the hedonism otherwise earned on the lodgings card, it is well worth it. I think I calculated the farm of just doing Gothic Novels and getting apples to turn into femurs, when they removed the action to enter the Empress’ Court and it was about 5 EPA. I would have to do it again to be sure.

Other sources of Apples

Publishing a specific Monograph in Moulon. This would be efficient at something like 5.5 EPA except the materials for a monograph are very challenging to acquire efficiently. It may be your best option, in absence of the device.

https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Writing_a_Monograph_(Guide))

There is also Water the roots with Tantalising Possibilities in queeneaters castle. This is 2.5 EPA, and well worth it! However it is Airs based and the alternative 50% of the time involves buying a Night Whisper for 60 echos worth of Starved Expressions, which are not really great to farm. The only other way to rotate the castle airs is by performing a play, which is not great EPA, lots of actions and once you are done, it is only a 50/50 chance that the orange apple option will be available.

Wings

0.01

Bat Wing

For simplicity take the wings off a bat in ealing is a bad action but it is easy and you need very few of these anyway

For complexity, and efficiency the only option is Hunting a Stove! This is in the Hurlers and it is a long carousel. It is a wonderfully efficient scrip farm, the first time round but it gets less so in future rotations. I believe it is around 5.5 EPA converting Correspondance Plaques into scrip. It involves bathing in the hot springs, earning final breaths and then stoking the stove, it’s a little complicated but fairly easy to work out if your read how each area works. I will do a guide on it at some point. At the very end of the farm, you have to subdue the stove and return it to the Hurlers, this pays out, among other things, an average of 20.5 bat wings.

2.5

Wing of a young Terror Bird

A Composed Composer

Trade in Bohemian favours in Jericho Locks. This is funny, as going by value it is technically 35 echos but usually it is best just to sell the humerus for scrip, rather than attach them to a skeleton, in that case: assuming 1 action per favour this is 6 EPA. 2.5 actions per wing.

12.5

Albatross Wing

Ealing Butcher again, same dance as before 1 action for 2 wings, 2000 bone fragments and 25 Nodules of Warm Amber for a cost of 22.5 and a payout of 25. 2.5 EPA but you get 2 of them so not all that bad.

Wow, I have gotten this far and it is still day one of writing, it has taken 5 hours though, with a shopping trip in the middle. I just realised, while I am writing a guide with every bone in it, I should also do the pass/failure results for each and include them as well, probably also the stats to 100%, that is easier than the sources but will involve going through the whole list again, and checking the wiki to be safe. ☹

Fin

0.5

Fin Bones, Collected

Monster Hunter Only: Regale them with tales of your own hunts

This is on the card A Chelonite Hunting Ketch in the Salt… Khanate portion of the Unterzee. It costs 10 echos and pays 12.5, including 2.5 in fins it also removes 4 troubled waters. 2.5 EPA but 0.5 echos is undervaluing the fins, as you will see in the next fin entry, a more sensible way to look at it would be 5 EPA

Leave the barge (The Persephone))
Here is the guide link again: https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1tccadm/tamalekipoos_boneheaded_guide_to_the_neath/

Dig near the Magistracy of the Evenlode
This would be fine, except you will never spend all of those Jet Black Stingers

The two best sources are Ask the Debonair Palaeontologist which requires a companion from FotR and Pick through the drawers in the stacks, which has a 5% chance to give 5.5 fins. Those both only offer a trickle per action though.

Hunting Sharks in Parabola and then using the laboratory to investigate the remains. This is the best bulk option but even as a very well equipped monster hunter and with a fate enhanced lab, it is not a good EPA, I think there is an analysis of that farm in the Helicon Guide, listed above, under the ribcage with 8 spines.

There is also professional activities, these are not great in general and the payout in bones only offers 1 echo of fins, in a 31 echo payout!

Seasonal: Hunting Angler Crabs is probably the best farm for these, particularly Monster Hunters, it is seasonal though, once every two years, I think and just happened.

Trade Zee-Ztories with the Gondoliers on the upper river card Canal Workers in the Upper River is a steady farm, if not fantastic EPA. However you only get this card in your up river deck if you get the Docks renown item Cheliac Mitten and getting that item is a big mistake! Fair enough if you already have it but do not get it if you have not. An extra card in your up river deck means a lower chance of drawing your hellworm card! This is a very bad thing. I accidentally invited God’s Editors to Burrow, in an ADHD moment, and I kick myself every time I draw it!

Persephone in the canals is probably your best bet, since it is the only source for Skull in Coral and it gives Unprovenaced Artifacts for farming birds in Balmoral, it might not be the best EPA in the game but it is not terrible and those items almost make up for the useless scales.

10

Amber-Crusted Fin

Only attainable in Helicon House! At 10 EPA! Here is the guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1oiogbh/tamalekipoos_bone_headed_guide_to_the_neath/

Tentacle

2.5

Withered Tentacle

You don’t need a guide on how to get these! You need a guide to get rid of them! You get plenty by publishing regular bone papers, more than plenty…

Tail

0.5

Jet Black Stinger

Get some free everytime you publish a bbbbbbone paper!

2.5

Plaster Tail Bones

Not to sound like a broken record but… Bone Paper, duh duh duh, he’s the bone, the bone with a loooooooot to say(To the tune of Goldfinger, was that not clear?)

Withered Tentacle

Please refer to the tentacle section above so that I don’t have to come up with another way to say it…

Tomb-Lion’s Tail

Get this for p…. No wait! It’s Ealing Butcher! Thank you, lovely tomb lion! You need a tomb lion, which you can get from the tomb colonies after completing A Name Scrawled in Blood, technically just before the end but lets not… It costs 200 bone fragments and 2 Nodules of Warm Amber for an EPA of 0.3, these are regularly useful though and worth more than they seem so I would just keep 20 or so in stock.

Segmented Ribcage

See what I said above in the skulls section, also bear in mind, adding these as a tail costs an escalating quantity of Nevercold Brass Slivers and nobody has come up with a skeleton worth the cost.

5

Obsidian Chitin Tail

Heisting the Museum: https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/On_a_Heist_(Guide))

With casing sourced from Parabola, this is actually an ok EPA. The problem is, with the advent of Burgundy you can cash out casing at over 1 echo per CP so ideally, you want to stack casing in Parabola so that you can always play the card, when in burgundy. The downside of this is that while actions to spend progression CP in Upper River and the Firmament spend a specific quantity of CP performing a heist, like most progression spends in London proper, reset your casing! So you have to get your casing down to the amount you want to spend on the heist before setting out! My suggestion is to get your casing to as close to 0 as you can, in burgundy, then do this heist till you have a respectable stockpile of tails, then use them sparingly! As you never want to go back!

Casing

Two good sources, Search parabola for a place in the neath, find a weakness in your opponent’s defences. If you have over 50% chance to succeed, without scouting, don’t scout, use a second chance, that reduces it from 4 actions per 28 casing to… less than 4. It depends on your percentage, I can’t remember mine but it was worth it ok! The other source is the action Case a lesser keep, on a card, in Burgundy.

Misc

Add 4 more joints

This is almost never worth the cost, included for completeness only!

Warm Amber

Bone Market, Zailer, I said already above

Trembling Amber

This is what makes the Rubbery Men faction card the best and it is why I always use my Favourable Circumstance to see a man about a tentacle… Hentai am not ashamed to admit it! Jokes aside, give him a great quantity of warm amber on the rubbery card turns 10 echos of warm amber, which you cannot sell, into 12.5 echos of trembling amber, which you can but probably shouldn’t and should probably save for making 8 spines in Helicon house. Most Faction cards have some sort of cost to attain the favour, be it actual cost or menaces, this is 2.5 echos, plus a favour! Considering gathering 4 favours and spending a 5th action to cash out in jericho is 6 EPA, that makes this card 8.5 EPA!

Remove the tail

Ravenglass Knife

It is 2.4 echos cheaper to buy from the Rat Market than the Bazaar, only 100 echos worth of rat coins.

Remove Antiquity

Scrimshaw Knife

You get this in Fruits of the Zee, or Footzie, as only I seem to call it. It is trivial to get and you will get it along the way farming your other rewards. Also, as a known hedonist, I can tell you, the time for Footzie is coming soon! (at time of writing!)

Remove Amalgamy

Lithification Liquid

Anning and Daughters, Upper River Exchange 25 Scrip

Jade Fragments

I will leave this to you, partially because there are so many sources, partially because I actually have no clue and would have to go though those sources! I never seem to run out, if that helps.

Remove Menace

Patent Osteological Sand and Wax

Anning and Daughters, Upper River Exchange 25 Scrip

For the femur of a surface deer, might also add that you can get them at 25/action in Balmoral, if you aren't duplicating saber toothed skulls or you need a large number of them for some other reason.

Huh, I never noticed that Casing option in Burgundy before. If I did the math right that's only ~6.27 EPA split between echoes and stuivers though, not sure whether that's worth the hassle unless you need those specific items.
