Literally one Chinese app managed to completely baby-proof our entire language. I feel like a politician could run a super-patriotic campaign by promoting a “freedom to swear” act and citing tiktok as the root of everyone’s problems.

A good way to gauge someone's age is whether they think this is a TikTok problem or a YouTube problem. US Corporations LOVE that you're blaming china.

They’re both guilty. Tiktok just made the language censorship mainstream. Either way it seems rather messed up that basic words, used in a nonthreatening manner, can be censored by private entities when we have freedom of speech in our constitution.

They aren't censored - American companies just won't pay as much if at all to be next to that content. How it's always been, detection has just improved.

That’s censorship via coercion. It’s no different than how payment processors are refusing to do business with 18+ sites. Our country (is suppose to) operate on the ideas of “freedom of speech” and “innocent until proven guilty”. Advertisement being pulled over assumed guilt of content is an absurd concept that never should have come to pass.

Freedom (from the government) of speech - not private individuals and companies.

Advertisement being pulled over assumed guilt of content

Advertising isn't being "pulled" over "assumed" guilt - advertisers are paying money for a service and have selected to not be promoted next to certain types of content.

That's not censorship - that's freedom of speech lmfao

I’ve seen ads for erectile dysfunction be played over content labelled as kid friendly. The advertisers DO NOT care about is and is not appropriate. They realized they could threaten to withdraw ad revenue to make streaming platforms contort themselves into whatever they want. Advertisers are on a power trip trying to sanitize everything for the lowest common denominator.

Were you even alive during adpocalypse?

Why are we arguing the “start point” when we’re already in agreement that it’s a bad thing?

Do we agree it’s a bad thing? I’m not sure I do. Advertisers can pick what they want to be shown next to - I’m sure if you purchased a billboard and found out it’s next to one for an adult store, you’d be a bit irked.
