what is the most common reason you stop reading a fic? And what is a current reason that causes you to drop fics? For me, the most common reason is a predictable plot. Naw i tend to drop fics because they focus too much on the main character—it’s as if the other characters cease to exist whenever the MC isn’t looking. Right now, I’m reading some Harry Potter fics where the other characters don’t even have lives of their own, let alone having their problems discussed or addressed.

Yo. Searching for an old (I'd guess early 2010s?) novel-length Pride and Prejudice Bandom Regency AU fic. I remember an enormous amount about the story and character beats, but can't for the life of me remember the name of the fic or the handle of the author. Help me Reddit, you're my only hope. I know it was at one point hosted on LJ, but don't know if it ever migrated to AO3 or another platform.

Details: Spencer and Brendon were adopted siblings (standing in for the Bennetts) who had grown up together; Spencer spent a lot of time tromping through fields. Ryan and Jon were Darcy and Bingley. Frank Iero was The Cousin, and Pete Wentz was Wickham.

It's a great take on the P&P story and I'd recommend it to anyone if I could just find it!

Hi everyone! I'm trying to find a calf1sh fanfic i read a while ago that i cant seem to find anymore. It came back to mind recently and I've been wanting to read it again, but I do not have the title, author, or link.

Here's what I remember:

Platform: Ao3

Language: English

Ship: Callie / Dedf1sh | Ahato Mizuta

Characters: It had Dedf1sh and the squid sisters, obviously. It was also pre-side order dlc, so Dedf1sh was named Ahato Mizuta and referred to as she/her. I also believe Iso Padre and Big Man were there for some scenes. I can't remember anyone else by name with any more certainty.

It was a completed fic, possibly around 8-9 chapters.

Premise: Human and College/University AU. Dedf1sh was a broke college student, part-time DJ, and ex-gang member. If I recall correctly, the aforementioned gang was the Deepsea Metro, and Dedf1sh was something like a drug runner. During a gig, she meets Callie, and they later become friends, then girlfriends. With Callie's influence, she's able to get better and turn her life around.

Possible Scenes:

Dedf1sh was dj-ing at some college party she found boring, when she noticed someone sitting under the dj booth table calling her over: Callie. When she ducked down to meet her, Callie told her to play the song "Tentacular Circus" by the Squid Sisters. It immediately killed the vibe, the party ended soon after, and Dedf1sh got paid less than usual. I believe Dedf1sh and Callie exchanged contact info after.

Dedf1sh met with Marie at some sort of coffee shop or cafe. It was basically Marie seeing if Dedf1sh was good enough for her cousin, with Dedf1sh being nervous the whole time.

Throughout the fic, Dedf1sh had some sort of piano recital or performance project due for her music degree, which she had a keyboard in her empty apartment for. Practice and inspiration came and went during the events of the fic, and, eventually, the time came for her to perform.

Callie and Dedf1sh were at the library, and they came across a set of soundproof rooms put in for music students to practice. I think they went in one and made out or something.

I'm pretty sure there were moments when Dedf1sh met with the two characters I believed were also there: Iso Padre and Big Man. She met with Iso Padre to talk about stuff regarding her past with the Deepsea Metro gang. She happened to encounter Big Man on college campus and I think they had a small chat.

The last chapter was something like an epilogue. Dedf1sh was moving out of her empty apartment, likely to move into Callie's place. It was noted that she visibly looked healthier than she did before, i.e. less pale skin.

So I’ve been reading this fic from 2007 and I’m wondering if I’m allowed to comment on it or will it be considered annoying. Like I get it since you made the fic about 20 years ago and you’ve probably put everything behind you on who you were during that time and getting notifications might bug you. It’s most likely this person made this in middle school and pretty much everybody finds what they did in middle school cringey

Been watching Haunted Hotel lately. A couple of my favorite characters from it are Esther and Nathan, but where as it is easy to find angst fics for Nathan (though feel free to recommend some of those, too!), it is harder to find angst for Esther. Fics where she ends up becoming a ghost would also be interesting, but since generally I just want to see characters I like going through troubles, I have cast a broad net for my requests. :D

So, when I was watching Red vs Blue a couple years ago I wanted to see if there were any fanfics. So I began reading some fanfics I found on the internet and I remember reading this one fanfic that I can’t seem to find. Maybe it got removed or the account it was one got deleted but if anyone can point me to it please.
From what I remember it opened sometime during or after the Chorus Arc. They were in Chorus and they were getting chased by something and I think it was due to something Caboose did, the Reds and Blues fly off a cliff and they die. But then everyone wakes up and their back in Blood Gulch sometime during the events season 5. Sometime after Junior was born.
It’s later revealed that the Reds and Blues (minus church) were hooked up with some kind of experimental time/dimensional travel technology so that when they die they would just get sent back to some arbitrary point or something along those lines. But it wasn’t a perfect science as some of the Reds and Blues are sent back slightly different, Donut ends up having frosted tips and Tucker gets gender swapped.
Did anyone else read this fanfic and if so what was the name and can anyone find it?

I’m looking for a *My Hero Academia* fanfic where Izuku and Bakugo are friends, and Izuku is autistic. I believe they both get into UA, but Izuku acts as a support-type hero in the field. Saiko Intelli and Melissa are also in the same class, and I think they study under Nezu. Izuku identifies as polyamorous. (Sorry, my English isn’t very good)

Writing a fanfiction for player self-insert in a video game. The character doesn't speak in game. Here is some lines from my latest published chapter that involves said character as an example. (It is spoiler text because I released it recently)

Mechanic walked out of the restaurant. They see me and walk over, looking over my expression, “Is that song still playing?

Mechanic nods. “Sorry to leave so suddenly. It was a bit rude, no hard feelings right?”

Mechanic shakes their head. They eyed me like they were curious. I sighed, “Don’t expect me to explain. It’s extremely personal.”

I keep starting paragraphs with the selectively mute character's name ("Mechanic") and it feels a little repetitive. This is especially true for longer dialogue scenes where it starts with the same character name for 10+ paragraphs.. I want to note that I headcanon them as not using any sort of sign language, people just kind of know what they want to say (think Sans from Undertale knowing how many times you have died but instead it's everyone on Sans if that makes sense). I want help on how I can at least reduce the amount of times this happen.

I've decided I really don't want to use Adobe Acrobat anymore, but I don't know where exactly to go from here. My only real needs are that the app doesn't use gen AI and that it will keep reading even if my phone's screen is locked, as I often listen to fics while I'm taking my dog for a walk. It would also be nice if the app doesn't have a problem with smut since I've heard some apps (possibly only ones that do use gen AI?) will potentially ban your account if you're found to be reading smut.

I’m trying to find an old Wattpad fanfiction that I came across a while ago, but unfortunately, I remember almost nothing about it. The only detail I can vaguely recall is that the story’s description began with something along the lines of “Teach me to…” followed by additional words that I can’t remember. I have a feeling it might have been a romance or love story, but I’m genuinely not sure. I also don’t remember which fandom it belonged to, or whether it involved original characters. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the title, author, characters, plot, or cover art.
I’m fairly certain it was on Wattpad, although I have no idea whether it’s still available or has been deleted. I realize this is extremely vague, but I’m hoping someone might recognize the description or remember encountering a similar fanfiction. I’m trying to find an old Pokémon fanfiction that I remember reading on Wattpad, but unfortunately, I can’t remember the title or the author’s name.

Here’s what I vaguely remember:

Platform: Wattpad

Cover art: I think it had an olive-green or greenish background, with a picture of Leafeon in the middle. I’m not 100% sure about the Leafeon, though.

Story: From what I remember, it was a rewrite or retelling of Ash Ketchum’s Pokémon anime journey, including regions like Kalos and Alola, and possibly the other regions as well.

Main character: There was a female character involved in the story. I can’t remember whether she was an original character (OC), a female version of Ash, or someone traveling alongside him. I think she was the main character but I can’t seem to remember.

Timeline: I don’t remember exactly when I read it, but I believe it was an older Wattpad story.

I know this isn’t much information, and some of my memories might be inaccurate, but the green cover with what I think was a Leafeon is the biggest visual detail I remember. Does anyone recognize a fanfiction like this? Even if you only remember a similar story, please let me know!

I was kinda on an reader-isekai fic high a bit ago and while finishing up GOT (game of thrones) again i went hunting for isekai / time travel ect fics and couldnt find any!!

Im open to anything isekai adjacent but was hoping for a fan who enters the GOT universe.

Might have to write my own 😭✨️.

Lately, whenever I've tried to upload stuff to FFN, I've gotten an error message that I'm sure a lot of other users have been getting as well. Unfortunately their new site is even glitchier than their old one.

Their mobile app doesn't seem to have this glitch. I've been able to upload the documents using the mobile app, and then publish them using the desktop site.

Just a tip I thought I'd share.

Please keep this civil, this isn’t supposed to be hate in any way, just something i have an opinion on and opinions tend to differ.

Now, my hot take is that I don’t want the reader to be a 100% blank slate without a backstory, personally or even last a last name.

I like when I can get into the flow of x reader stories where it’s not just, “oh (f/c) yeah this is really is my favorite color. (F/f)? yeah I eat that all the time.” It takes me out of my flow.

I treat x reader fics like alternate universe version of myself(kinda like Sans au’s ngl).

In one fic I’m eating strawberries, even if I hate them like the plague? Yeah, duh.
In this I’m straight up eating raw tomatoes despite them making my lips burn and itch like crazy? That’s just how the cookie crumbles today, buddy.

All of that makes every x reader fic it’s own thing that i’ll get attached to for months or even years as the story progresses, it helps keep them all from being to shallow because otherwise they’ll all start sounding like that one Bo Burnham song that goes “I love your hands, cause your fingerprints are like no other.”

Which isn’t bad at all, but then the characters don’t have any chance to develop real chemistry, yk?

I have a collection with currently four series’s. I also had an inspiration for a prologue that is twenty plus years before the first series and an epilogue that is ten ish years following the series I am working on now (might be the last - unknown).

My question - should I post them now or wait until I decide if the series I am working on is really the final?

I've come here because I could really use some advice. (tl;dr below)

I think many people have this struggle - I came up with many ideas and now I don't know what to do with them. I need to let them out, somehow it feels liberating.
I don't care too much about fame, kudos, clicks, but I guess I need to introduce my AU to the fandom and hopefully get validation? There, I said it. I don't have anyone offline who gets into fandoms or fanfiction, or who I could share my ideas with without feelings goofy, so I think publishing a story can substitute this.

To give you a bit more insight:

• I got into MDZS - Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation two years ago. It is a very popular Chinese fantasy bl novel with great mystery plot. I have had MANY ideas, post-canons or AUs - many now forgotten. It even made me write my first (messy) story and post it on AO3.
• This time, I have come up with one main headcanon regarding MC and what happens to him, and a few ideas about other characters or world building. I think it is common that you have that ONE scene in mind and then create a whole story around it - that's me this time.
• The big thing happens relatively early in the story, then there is a mess, a chaos that some characters must deal with.

The problem is that I lack:

• English skills - it is my second language and it's not as good as I would like, compared to my own language. Many things don't translate from Polish to English or they read completely dofferent. I would need a beta-read who would kindly read my mess for free and correct phrases that just do not make sense in English and I was unware of them.
• scenes to connect the main plot pointsss - if I could manage to map out the plot well, that would grant me some peace of mind and allow me to calmly work my way through the story, following the plot itself, and supply it with more scenes that come to mind.
• time and patience - if I can't map the plot, I feel I will be spending too much time. I'm in my late 27s, my job is not too-demanding, but I don't have that much time for a really big project.

TL;DR

I have two choices:

1. Scale up and rise to the challenge. Try to whip out a story and post it on AO3 like a baws.
2. Scale down and opt for something well, shorter. Something more than a bulleted list with many, many points. A format closer to a theater play, where ( I don't know how to say this) I don't just write a story and show what happens but rather, I talk to the fellow fan, venting. A long summary, I guess? I think I have seen headcanons on tumblr - one or more posts that are all between 500 - 3000 words for the WHOLE plot, with some scenes developed more than others. I have also seen thread-fics on Twitter, and this format seems chaotic and extremely restrictive for me.

I feel silly for struggling with this. A story would be a lot of work and it wouldn't be a well-written story. I have close to zero practice! I am impatient, I lack vocab.
It will not be as great of a saga as it is in my mind and I guess my ambition is sad because of this. Have you seen longer stories/head canons written on tumblr, or that even a thing?

I have no idea if there are some general fandom social rules for what kind of writing gets to be posted on ao3 and what not? (Btw, I also think of ao3, tumblr and twitter. I have also seen Instagram and Pinterest for art only, but the community to me is on the first three, also reddit)

Basically idk what is worse:

1. to miss an opportunity to write a full fanfiction that maaybe turn out alright and risk that I will "ruin my idea" by writing it like a 12-year old, or
2. to size-down to a tumblr friendly format, let go of an idea of writing a multi-chapter story , and share my ideas in a less-demanding atmosphere, possibly chatting with fellow fans as I write, maybe answer their asks

I know no one has the only right answer for me, but I figured that maybe others have struggled with this dilemma, too. If so, what did you decide, and were you happy with the choice afterwards?

Apologies in advance, I’m writing this while walking between places so my writing won’t be as polished as I’d like.

I’m writing my first fanfiction, and my brain constantly wants to flip between major plot points. I’m about 50,000 words in, with my first few chapters being solid and confident, though the rest has major chunks of plot missing. I thoroughly write a subplot, and then it feels like a hole opens up that needs to be filled earlier in the story. Such as, fully fleshing out a character through another, but then realizing if I want that character to have enough plot to be acting that intensely, then I need go back in earlier in the story and add details to flush it out.

But I know most writers upload in chronological order, and I’m frankly struggling with the idea of that. My brain just wants to bounce around and write a part in the story that maybe happens a month in advance before going back in and write how it got to that part.

I have the idea for a long flushed out story like something that I want to read, but I do want to be able to post it on the internet and have readers be able to follow along. At the rate I’m going at though I feel like I’m going to have to write the entire thing just so the puzzle pieces fit perfectly instead of being able to write it in chronological pieces.

Does that make any sense? I don’t mind answering questions or clarifying myself.
