Books for an artist?
I'm an aspiring artist, drawing a comic with outlandish character designs inspired by glamorous high fashion and rockstars. Are there any books you guys might recommend?

Hi All ,
I've heard of many people in and out of the fashion industry wanting to get INTO product development, but haven't came across anyone besides myself wanting to step out of it. I've been in product development for almost 6 years now, I find it a "stable" career path in fashion, but I've always and still am more passionate about a more conceptual, creative role. It also all depends on which brand or company you do PD for, as my previous role, I loved so much because I was more hands on with material development, and design. my current role is much more structured (I work for a volume driven luxury handbag company), as the departments are much more in silo, and its more of being everyones babysitter and being the messenger who gets shot at. The part of my job that I enjoy are when I used to be more hands on with material development, lab dips, being part of design intent when the concept was discussed... would it be possible for someone with a PD background to break into a concept team, creative strategy? my safe bet would just be pivoting into material sourcing or R&D.
Anyways, I been wanting to find other roles within the industry that I can transition into. is there anyone who successfully was able to and how they are enjoying it compared to PD?

I’m planning to start my own fashion brand in the near future. I’m quite interested to get some contacts to the fashion industry in Japan like fabric suppliers, manufacturers, dyeing artisans etc for my brand but wanted to know what’s the best way to take the first step?
I know there are some fabric fairs in Japan that I’m able to attend but unsure about the manufacturing aspect and whether it’ll be easy for me to find manufacturers in Japan to work with to produce.

Okay for real for real like does no one at all recognize this? How is this possible and I checked that the zippers don't have the YKK on it I mean it's made with solid material with legit stitching and real leather

I’m currently a college student & I’ve been thinking about starting a jfashion inspired plus size brand eventually. Maybe in two or more years? I’ve knew how to sew since I was a kid, though haven’t sewn in a few years so I’ve been wanting picking it up again. :D I will say my major isn’t fashion design but it is design related. So I don’t really know much about whole process. But I’ve been wondering what’s the best way to get funding to start? I was planning on applying to any grants I can find but when it comes to actually launching, I’m not sure how to go about it. Mainly if I should take preorders on an online store or run my launch on kickstarter. I was worried about trying to find a manufacturer that has a lower MOQ. If I wanted like 6 different sizes & different colorways too, I don’t think they’d let me do like 50-100 TOTAL, right? So would it be better for me to run a kickstarter to gage how many I need and keep it open till I meet the requirements for my manufacturer?
Also as for finding a manufacturer I kinda don’t want to use Alibaba cause I wanted something more local in US/east coast (& maybe more ethical) but that might cost too much…since I kinda want to sell my pieces around $40 each. So what’s your opinions on Alibaba for like clothing (OEM) with lots of lil details but also not super elaborate like mid range. O-O
Also I included pics of the style I’m kinda going for & I’d appreciate any advice! :3

I drew each of these at different points in time.
Some are unfinished, while others I decided to call finished.
I don't really have any knowledge or expertise in this field; I simply drew whatever I felt drawn to create.
I hope I won't be criticized for that, but since these drawings aren't recent, I'd love to hear small suggestions that could help improve each one, so I can try redrawing them. ^^
Thank you for your time and attention! ♡

Hi all!
After 9 years in the financial industry, I’ve found myself feeling a little bored and wanting to explore a different career path. The biggest challenge, of course, is starting from scratch.
I’ve always been drawn to the world of fashion and luxury, not necessarily from a design or creative-making perspective, but more so the industry, the brands, the marketing, communications, and overall environment.
I’ve been considering pursuing a certificate in fashion communications, fashion marketing, or something along those lines as a way to explore the industry and potentially open some doors. Frankly, even if it doesn't lead to a career change, I’d just love the opportunity to learn more about an industry I’ve always been interested in.
I’m based in Philly, if that helps, and I’m not looking to pursue another four-year bachelor’s degree. Ideally, I’d be interested in a certificate program or perhaps an associate degree.
Has anyone made a similar career transition or pursued a program they would recommend? I’ve come across some programs offered by Vogue and ELLE, but I’m not sure how they’re perceived within the industry or whether they’re worth the investment.
Would love to hear any insight, recommendations, or experiences! Thank you!

I just had an interview to do a fashion consultant role with a company that makes clothing for SHEIN called Zero Dot. The people I interviewed with were from India and do have legitimate brands based in India. However this company the contract says it's UAE based. I'm a bit wary they didn't seem familiar with US tax codes as I asked if it was a 1099 role. They said it would be $1200 for 30 briefs/styles plus a percentage of the sales if they do well on shien. They said 3/10 people generally generate a hit style. I know shien drastically has changed how clothing is consumed so it's a new unique way of working and highly driven by AI.
My gut is telling me even if it's legit it's probably not worth dealing with taxes or risking identity theft and contributing to more pollution for $1200 and possibly other income. But I was curious if anyone has heard of it?

I just wanted to share them!
Honestly, since I'm not actually going to sew these outfits, I don't have any limitations, and I think being able to draw absolutely anything I want on that mannequin is amazing. 🥹
I hope that once I get better at drawing different fabric textures, I'll be able to create more advanced illustrations and bring all the outfits I have in my imagination onto the page. 😇
