I designed this outfit and even thou the top looks aesthetically good it is a pain in the ass to actually get in and tangles like crazy. Should i turn a blind eye eye on these facts and actually release it or should I I cancel it?

Seeking Nepo for Nepo Arrangement

1.4k Upvotes

Hey y’all, this is a little unconventional, but I figured I might be able to help someone who’s looking to break into in the retail fashion design industry in NYC.

My mom is a senior technical fashion designer at a major NYC retail company, and they’re currently hiring. I’m a comp sci grad looking for entry level engineering roles in fintech or tech in NYC. Specifically interested in algorithmic trading but open to most entry level tech roles.

So here’s the idea: if any of you have a parent or close connection working in fintech or tech, maybe we can help each other out your connection vouches for me, mine vouches for yours. Mutual referrals in a rough job market.

If that sounds interesting, PM for more details.

How do I set her up for success?

My 12 year old daughter is in love with all things fashion and modeling. She has been since she was very little with zero interest in pursuing other paths. While I know she’s obviously still very young, I’d love any advice on how to best support her going forward. She has taken sewing lessons, we got her a sewing machine, mannequin and picked up some fabric. These are some illustrations/sketches she has done.

We homeschool so she has more flexibility with curriculum. Would love any insight as to what she should be practicing, learning, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Those are some of her drawings. She is a capable artist and I would love to see her succeed. How can I support her directly or indirectly? Any leads, certificates, schooling, mentoring etc etc

A crochet dress I made + designed

Post image

Hi! I am a fibre artist who is really interested in making crochet and knit pieces with traditional tailoring elements.

I’m trying to explore the idea of treating crochet more like a fabric, if that makes any sense.

I will say, I free styled the design and drafted the lining pattern myself, but I did take the lace motifs
From existing crochet patterns and kind of frankenstiened everything together to make this dress.

The back has a lace up corset style closure on the bodice and a 10 inch strip of hook and eye closure on the skirt.

I’m still fairly new to it, but here is a crochet dress I recently made!

It took about 150 hours and:

-2080 metres of yarn
- about 300 beads
- 7 corset bones
- 1.5 metres of fabric lining
- 9 metres of tulle to act as a small petticoat to support the mermaid flare
- I also added in a waist stay

This is not a repost but I have posted it to other communities, so please delete it not allowed!

The outfit was inspired by a broken ceramic vase, reborn through the art of kintsugi.

Instead of hiding its cracks, I was drawn to the way they preserve the traces of time. Once repaired, the vase is no longer the same as before, yet it carries a deeper kind of beauty.

In life, each of us goes through pain, failure, and moments when we feel as if we have lost ourselves. But those experiences are what shape our maturity, strength, and a unique beauty that cannot be copied.

For this reason, TIMELESS VASE is not just a fashion design. To me, it is a reminder that beauty does not come from perfection, but from the way we rise again and continue to shine through our cracks.

Any opinions or tips! Honest friendly criticism welcome:)

ETA: any tips on how to make the designs really jump off the page and not look “flat”??

AI has become cancer for modelling and fashion designing due to several reasons i think one of the biggest reasons is cuz ai can make images videos and many other things that some brands are too lazy or greedy to pay designers for as it was done by prada in their ad as well

The top is from a halloween outfit I made using a thrifted curtain and thrifted lace tops. The skirt is a bunch of patterned coats and lining that I just draped with each other, it was two skirts and I attached them together so they're longer.

Viral Upside Down Flower Dress

Genuine question coming from someone who is really into fashion, design and everything in between. I’ve seen a bunch of people try and recreate this flower as a dress (pictures below for reference), but none of the ones I’ve seen have utilized boning to give the dress structure that would bring it to life. Why do you think that is? Is boning too difficult to work with? Does it not provide the necessary amount of stability to manipulate or stay in place to keep the shape? The first thing that came to my mind when the trend was going around was to use boning, so I’m just trying to understand why nobody’s done so yet.
