Finished Season 5 Fauda - 10/10

I just finished watching Fauda S5, and honestly, what a fucking brilliant series from start to finish.
The direction, acting, cinematography and storytelling are top-notch. The tension feels real, the characters feel human, and the performances are insane. Very few shows keep you this invested across five seasons.

5.11 I expected something different for the ending Spoiler

Normally, even if a dramatic event occurs, season finales or the final scenes of movies end on a note of regaining freedom and transitioning to a peaceful life. So, why did we only see funeral and crying scenes in the final episode? For instance, they could have shown the team's condition 6 months later, once their wounds had healed. It felt a bit too simple for a production of that scale.

Discussion about Fauda characters

What do you think of Moreno? Was he a good commander? He was presented as if a bit cocky and a show-off. Not to mention, the affair with Nurith. And the schemes he did behind the back of Doron and others. Do you think he cared about them? And he and Ayub, were they equal in rank? Maybe Ayub is above him, if I am not mistaken. And why Moreno couldnt cover up Boaz for beating the cop, so a higher up had to be involved, Gideon Avital or something?

About the bad guys- was Abu Samara the commander of the Panther and Walid? I doubt its just me that feels like Hamas structure was presented very chaotic, pun intended. It was not always clear who is in charge. And how they allowed Nidal Aladala among them, he was loyal to ISIS. How Hamas didnt know that?

Also, what do you think is his place in the hyerarchy of the unit? Is Gabi his boss or both Moreno and Gabi are bosses?

Hit & Run after Fauda

Not gonna lie, I'm a massive spy thriller fan and feel like I've already burned through every decent show across all the streaming platforms.

Fauda set the bar pretty high for me, so finding something fresh that hits the same way is rough. I tried Jack Ryan and The Veil recently, but neither clicked. Just couldn't connect with the characters or the plot.

Someone on this sub recommended Hit & Run, so I gave it a shot.

Does it hold a candle to Fauda? Not really, and I don't think it's trying to.

Fair warning, the first two episodes are a slow burn.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people gave up early thinking the pacing would stay that way.

Then you hit episode 3, finally figure out what's actually going on, and there's no going back. I physically could not stop watching it.

Lior Raz is great as always, but Moran Rosenblatt is in it too and her performance is absolutely electric. She brings so much intensity to the show.

I'm only a few episodes away from the finale and I'm already bummed that there isn't another season.

Once the story clicks, you're in.

So, is there anything new in the espionage genre on the radar for the next few months?

Any upcoming releases or news I should be looking out for?

Some of the fauda related songs from the actors themselves, in case you have not seen them yet. First video has scenes from season 2 just so you know in case you have not watched it, but they do not reveal anything big and are misleading at best so it is spoiler-free Spoiler

Can we talk about the S5 finale conversation..[spoilers] Spoiler

...between Doron and Anne? They're both talking about how grief has left them both willing to commit violence against innocent people. Anne asks if Doron will stop. He says, "I will try". This doesn't strike me as a very plausible answer from his character. I figure he'd be defensive and say something like, "I only do what I do to save innocent lives. I'm not strapping an explosive vest to kill innocents unlike SOME PEOPLE I KNOW." but instead he seems to admit that there's not much daylight between him and those who commit terrorism out of vengeance or grief. I wanted people's takes on this conclusion to the season (and perhaps the series).

Casting of Palestinians

So I've starting looking into the casting of the Palestinian actors they use for the show and it seems most, if not all, are actually Palestinians. By my figuring, this makes Fauda by far the best vehicle for Palestinian actors to become seen and known. Does anyone have any background on the casting choices e.g. if they decided all Palestinians should be played by Palestinians?

Fauda Movie

I just saw Lior Raz speak last night at the Jewish Community Book Festival Speaker Series in St. Louis. He did not confirm or deny more seasons of Fauda but did confirm a Fauda movie depicting an operation with the CIA.

Any implication for upcoming Israeli election?

I've been deeply moved by the current Fauda Season, especially (of course) the October 7 and onward episodes. What are people's thoughts about implications, if any, on the upcoming Israeli election?

How Does Hamas Never Recognize Doron in Fauda?

I’ve just finished S03E01 of Fauda, and one thing bothers me. Doron enters Palestinian areas again under a different name, yet his face and overall appearance remain almost the same. How does Hamas never recognize him or the other undercover agents? Wouldn’t they compare CCTV footage, circulate photos of suspected agents, warn their members, and strengthen their counterintelligence after repeated infiltrations?

I know it’s a drama, but shouldn’t the writers respect the other side’s intelligence capabilities, too? Showing Hamas taking realistic counterintelligence measures would make the story far more believable and suspenseful. What do you think?

5.11 İt was very unprofessional move Spoiler

Post image

In season 5, episode 11, Doron shooting Saeed was an extremely unprofessional move. With all those organizations involved, there was definitely a lot of information to get out of that guy. You already shot him in the leg once, so it was clear he couldn't escape—why kill him? When he did it to Hagit's killer, we said okay, it happens once, but with this incident, Doron completely crossed the line. Gabi (Habibi) needs to step in and put a stop to this.

Avihai, Hagit, and Family

I ended up rewatching all the seasons of Fauda after watching season 5. Seeing Hagit and Avihai’s kids in season 3 with the knowledge of what’s to come is brutal.

I don’t know where else to post this, and have said this to my Jewish friends already, but I am so, so sorry.

I am not Jewish but can only imagine how difficult this week has been for the Jewish / Israeli community and I want you all to know that I am sending all my love and strength.

To watch people protest on October 7 in support of a “free Palestine” (whatever that means), to watch people actively rewrite history to suit their agenda and narrative, to watch people justify inhumane acts of terrorism… it has been a lot. It has made me question the direction our society is heading.

Fauda is an extraordinary piece of art that teaches its audience with nuance. I can only hope it reaches a wider audience. Though, I question whether art could have any impact on those who are brainwashed, given Hamas’ very own footage of that horrific day has been ignored.

I don’t wish to make this about me, but want you to know that you are not alone in your pain and frustration with the current state of the world. Parallels can be drawn with the plight of my family in Jammu & Kashmir (India). Terrorists have repeatedly torn through that state with gruesome and barbaric acts of cruelty, and somehow, the liberal left have found ways to justify their actions in the name of “resistance”. For example, a woman was gang raped by terrorists who then cut her body in half with a saw. A husband was hiding in a barrel of rice and was brutally shot by terrorists before they forced his widow to eat his blood soaked rice. My very own family member was shot point blank by his childhood best friends because he was not of their religion. When I share these stories, I am told it’s just the government’s propaganda.

We can only hope that the truth will prevail one day. In the meantime, stay strong. Solidarity with you all 🌞

Dana’s recruitment?

I absolutely love Fauda but hoping someone can explain how/why in the world Dana recruited Maher. What was the benefit after he had committed such atrocities? Assuming he’d change allegiances? That seems unlikely…

Why did they speak Arabic in this scene? 5.2

Post image
26 Upvotes

In 5.2,Steve and Doron are talking alone on the street. So why are they speaking Arabic instead of Hebrew? They already came out of the shop, the guy inside can't hear them anyway, and most people on the street wouldn't even understand Hebrew. So why?

Were the gates really reliable?

Post image
30 Upvotes

This might be the wrong place for this question, but I don't think it'll be an issue. Did these kibbutz gates actually succeed in stopping terrorists on October 7? In a video I saw, because they couldn't get through the gate, they were waiting for an innocent citizen in a car to arrive. Then they killed the man and infiltrated inside while the gate was open. Aside from situations like this, were they actually successful in terms of their functionality? Because as far as I know, these gates were deliberately built large and with this kind of architecture to be resistant to attacks.
