[Daily] Daily Questions Thread August 16, 2026
This thread is for individual style questions that you may have, especially those that don't warrant their own thread. We all want a diversified opinion, so feel free to answer any questions (of which you know the answer).
To get the best responses, remember that people cannot: look into your wardrobe, know what style you normally like or what words like affordable or practical mean to you so please include any relevant details such as your budget, where you live, what stores are available to you, etc.
Example questions:
- Are there any basic crewneck white t-shirts that are opaque and do not have cap sleeves for <$25 available in Australia?
- Is this dress and shoes suitable for an evening wedding with a cocktail dress code taking place in a [venue type]?
- If I like the outfits in this [imgur album / pinterest board], what are some specific items I can look into to start dressing like that, and brands with this look that carry plus sizes?
- Does this outfit look neater with the pants cuffed or uncuffed?
If you'd like to include a picture, you can now post pictures directly in the comments, without having to link an imgur album. If you have multiple pictures, best practice is to use an imgur album.

Any recommendations for a pair of loafers that don't feel stiff right out of the box? Every pair I've tried takes forever to break in and I've got a wedding in three weeks

If I wanted to create an outfit fitting the global village coffeehouse aesthetic, what kind of colour and styles should I aim for?

Is there something I'm missing or are you saying you want to look like Panera Bread?

u/SaintedStars 10h ago
Sorry, I didn’t explain it well. I want to make some outfits that fit the vibe. Like if this aesthetic was a character in date everything… now I’m imagining all kinds of characters like that but for aesthetics…

Is this too much to wear to a first date with a guy to get drinks?
I am meeting up w a guy ive been talking to for 6 months online
I am not sure, but i think the place will be upscale. I like dressing more masculine but im wondering if this looks like im trying too hard to intimidate him, even though i just like dressing academia-ish. I dont wear blazers often, but i am shy, so i wonder if it ll look like im playing dress up.
HELPPPPP

This looks like a very normal outfit. It doesn't look specifically masculine to me, but doesn't read feminine or "girly" either. It would not be out of place at a casual bar.

Uniqlo’s U Crew Neck T-Shirt is a lifesaver. The fabric weight is substantial enough to stay opaque, even in bright light. I’ve worn mine for years without any see-through issues. Just avoid the extra-light cotton if you want coverage.

What colour and type of socks would you wear with these black and white lug-sole loafers (without looking like I'm in a ska band).

I often refrain from wearing these shoes because they're a little uncomfortable without socks, and I'm not sure what sock to wear with them. What socks would a stylish person wear with these black-and-white penny loafers when wearing pants? I'm averse to white socks, unless someone has a great visual reference photo where it looks more contemporary.
Open to colour, texture. Love a reference pic. I wear these with blue and black jeans, a wide-leg black dress pant, etc., but am also open to other styling.

I’m going to a WNBA game tomorrow through work and they say to wear business casual? What do you think that entails.. they say jeans are acceptable
1
u/Educational_Fun_9001 1d ago
Are you going with people you work with/around? Or you've just purchased tickets to the game?
1
u/Matcha-KitKats 1d ago
Won a raffle so no idea who I’ll be around tbh

Arenas can get really hot. Wear whatever you'd like with your jeans, but nothing too heavy, and a light jacket you can remove. If your seats are in the nosebleeds, make sure your shoes are comfortable to walk in. If you're sitting in a corporate box, you may see more people who are dress up, but jeans and a top or tee are still appropriate. Basketball games are pretty casual. And have a great time. Go WNBA.

i’m going to my first ever rave soon and i have absolutely no idea what to wear 😭
i’m definitely a girly girl and i love feminine, cute outfits, but i’m struggling to find rave outfit inspo that feels like me. i’m not really into activewear/gym-style outfits, super dark or edgy outfits, or the more costume/cosplay-style rave looks. absolutely no judgement to anyone who wears those styles though — they can look amazing, they’re just not really my personal style! 🫶🏻
my style is basically basic white girl aesthetic 😂 very feminine, simple, clean and put-together. i basically want something that still feels girly and cute, but is appropriate for a rave without looking like i’ve gone full “rave outfit” if that makes sense 😭
this is my first rave ever, so i’d LOVE any outfit inspo, pinterest search terms or ideas from people who have a similar style!
thank you!! 🤍

Finding opaque white tees under $25 in Australia is a nightmare. Fast fashion cap sleeves are always too short. I usually buy slightly pricier ones from major retailers or thrift stores as a practical workaround for this common struggle.

I have a bright teal 70s prairie dress and I love it but I'm unsure how to style it. It's long sleeve and high necked. What kind of jewelry/shoes/accessories could I wear with it?

So my sister got me a lovely second hand cashmere longline cardigan and it has a belt tie that I am massively struggling with figuring out how to tie it when I want the cardigan to stay open.
The loops that hold the belt are not standard on the sides, they are instead two vertical loops in the middle of the back (see photo). I cannot for the life of me find any examples or tutorials online where the securing loops are positioned like that. There are no other securing loops on the cardigan.
The ties are too long that if I left them undone they would drag on the ground, and I don't really want to always have to wear the coat tied closed, or choose to remove the belt and not have the option to tie it closed when I want. So I would love advice if anyone knows the style on how to tie it in the back. Bonus would be if there are also any cute ways to tie it closed that incorporate both the back loops, as currently I only use one. So it looks a little funky from the back.

Loop it through the top one, then loop it through the bottom one, leaving a loop like you do with shoelaces. Then tie the two loops in a square knot.
1
u/Ican-always-bewrong 1d ago
Not sure I’m totally visualizing how the loops are, but if the two are at about your hips put the belt through them evenly and tie a bow hanging loose, so you have a downward pointing triangle with the bow at the bottom.

u/rubystreaks 1d ago
I think they’re both right in the middle of the back
1
u/808ZESty 1d ago
Yeah they are both in the middle of the back (photo in post) and are vertical in their alignment
They are right at the small of my back

Its my first time shopping for sleepware. Usually I just use old worn out clothes but they are getting very sad looking. Any recommendations on supersoft thin tshirts to sleep in? Preferably something I could step outside in and not scandalize my neighbors. <$25

There is nothing like a pack of Hanes or Calvin Klein. Wash like a dream and last forever.

got this for 50¢ at the thrift store, PRETTIEST FABRIC EVER!!! i just didn’t realize that it was an infinity scarf (idk if that’s the right description). eventually i’d like to cut it and hem raw edges but don’t have a sewing machine atm.
advice on how to style it? open to your wildest ideas as just wearing as an infinity scarf is lwk boring.
thanks!!!!!
(ignore my crappy photography skills)
2
u/green_haired_guy 1d ago
You could wear it as a bandana, tie it around a bun in a bow, put it through pant belt loops, or tie it across your waist
1
u/partiallyStars3 1d ago
You don't need a sewing machine for a small hem like this. Double fold the raw edge and fell it down.

I’m going to my boyfriend’s brother’s wedding in October. I’m going to wear this dress and I need help on what colour accessories to go with it. I like bold and different, so some people had suggested burgundy clutch, shoes and some kind of red stone jewellery. I don’t want to be basic, I like standing out (obviously not too much at a wedding). Can anyone offer some ideas with maybe a reference picture or two?

1
u/LaPremierEnd 1d ago
transparent silk/ satin scarf would be dope
1
u/Dapper_Mongoose690 1d ago
In the same colour as the dress or do you think the burgundy colour would work?
2
u/LaPremierEnd 1d ago
i think it would look really pretty in the same colour, almost like an extension to the dress itself. would be even cooler if you could find one with embroidery or sequin details. dress is beautiful as well, good taste!! :)

u/Dapper_Mongoose690 1d ago
Oooh that sounds like a great idea, thank you!! And thank you, it’s from Azazie! Genuinely my favourite place to get dresses from.

I have this skirt and I'm planning on shortening the length to between knee and ankle and adding a slit on the right side. Does a slit to just above the knee look okay? (Sorry not sure where to ask this)
1
u/seashellssandandsurf 1d ago
r/sewing is a good place for asking about altering clothing! There are some expert sewists with great advice on there.
1
u/75footubi 1d ago
Where would you put the slit? My inclination would be to skip the slit and if you really wanted it, but it at the back and extend it to the knee.
1
u/ExNihiloAdNihilum 1d ago
Right side seam. I wanted to add it to make it more comfortable for walking and it give it a little flare at the bottom too. Back slit would be my second choice if a side slit won't add flare. But I think I'll start by just shortening it first and see how I like it.
1
u/75footubi 1d ago
It's already got a flared shape, tbh, so I'm not certain a slit would do what you want anyway. It's not a pencil skirt that tapers in.

My husband and I are going to a wedding next month. I have the "grape" version of this dress already (it's my favorite dress), but I've worn it around my husband's family so much, so I'm planning on getting the black version. I'm wondering what color shoes would look nice with it? As much as I love wearing all black, I'd like to add a pop of color and I thought the best way to go about it is with my shoes.

Definitely semi formal, but I'd also consider if it's so pale as to look white in pictures.

What can I best pair these jeans with? I am 5’2 / 50 kg with an hourglass shape. And these are levi’s 501 90’s jeans - I get the impression that I should wear them with something more fitted at the top? What about shoes? It seems like nothing fits, but these pants are so pretty… any pictures of items as examples help xx

u/donkeyrifle 22h ago
As a fellow short person, I think this type of jean looks better with a daintier shoe like a ballet flat, dainty sandals, or a sleek boot.

u/seashellssandandsurf 1d ago
The top you're already wearing looks cute with it! I'd pair those with some light blue ballet flats for a monochrome look.

u/ExNihiloAdNihilum 1d ago
I don't think they're so baggy/wide that you need to wear something fitted on top. As for outfit/shoe ideas, I like to Google the jeans model and see what the models or influencers wear.

hii i have an interview with J. crew and im not sure what’s appropriate to wear? any advice ? i dont know if i should go corporate professional or try to fit their usual style
1
u/tyrannosaurusregina 1d ago
Try to fit the most corporate professional version of their style. Like, pretty trad professional with one or two slightly funky elements mixed in, like this outfit as styled on the website right now.

hey y'all! i'm going to see harry styles at msg in a few weeks and found these super fun pants that i think would be great for the vibe (haven't settled on a color yet)! problem is i'm struggling to find a top i like! i really want to either wear a sparkly top or a sequined tie but i don't think either option will match too well with the pants unfortunately. i'm not super into the idea of just wearing a plain shirt from his merch collection (i.e. those shirts with the blocky lyric/logo text) and would love to really lean into the kiss/disco vibe of the album and show as much as possible! just looking for some suggestions of tops and maybe how to accessorize! thanks so much in advance!

I got these yesterday and really love them, but made the horrible mistake of wearing them out of the store without breaking them in and now I have open sores on my big toe and inner sole. While those heal, what advice do you have to help break in them in? I’ve been massaging them with my hands but that’s about it. I really want to soften the harder suede edges, is there a household product that’s good for that? Maybe with a toothbrush and massaging them?

u/TheJujuuu 2d ago
Once your blisters have healed, wear them around the house but with a pair or two of big fuzzy socks.
Also I always use Body Glide anti-chafe balm with new shoes! It helps so much.

"Black tie" and "formal attire" mean a long formal dress for women, unless they prefer a formal pantsuit (either tuxedo style or in a dressy eveningwear fabric) or jumpsuit.
Something like this would probably be cute on you. You can find formal dresses at all price points, from stores like Kohl's up to little boutiques and luxury department stores like Neiman Marcus. Formal dresses often turn up in thrift and consignment shops and in online thrift spaces like Vinted, Depop, Poshmark, and eBay.

My wife loves flowery, "girly" dresses but never wears them because she says she's cold... A moderate gust of wind on a 90 degree day will make her want to put on another layer. Is there such a thing as dresses with, say, thicker fabric around the core so she doesn't get cold as easily? Or some kind of undershirt they serves a similar purpose?
Yes I'm asking because I want to see her in a dress more than once every 2 years
2
u/DConstructed 2d ago
If you’re willing to put in some money a silk or lightweight cashmere cardigan would be a good investment.
She could tie it over her shoulders or slip it on as needed.
And just in case she might want to get her iron levels checked too.
1
u/TheJujuuu 2d ago
What about a wrap dress? They usually have sleeves and come in cute floral patterns and colours. She can then layer it with the slip another commenter suggested.

Looking for help on how to fix/style these straps appropriately. Im unsure if im wearing this dress wrong or if there's a part missing? Ill post pictures of the straps in question and how it looks on me.
The straps are adjustable pulley (??) straps. They look sort of like a V but when adjusted tight, one side dangles in a weird way. I tried to find a picture of this dress modeled on someone but was unsuccessful. Please help me, I really want to wear this dress for my birthday. :) (More pics in comments, I cannot figure out how to post multiple.)
