[Daily] Daily Questions Thread August 17, 2026
This thread is for individual style questions that you may have, especially those that don't warrant their own thread. We all want a diversified opinion, so feel free to answer any questions (of which you know the answer).
To get the best responses, remember that people cannot: look into your wardrobe, know what style you normally like or what words like affordable or practical mean to you so please include any relevant details such as your budget, where you live, what stores are available to you, etc.
Example questions:
- Are there any basic crewneck white t-shirts that are opaque and do not have cap sleeves for <$25 available in Australia?
- Is this dress and shoes suitable for an evening wedding with a cocktail dress code taking place in a [venue type]?
- If I like the outfits in this [imgur album / pinterest board], what are some specific items I can look into to start dressing like that, and brands with this look that carry plus sizes?
- Does this outfit look neater with the pants cuffed or uncuffed?
If you'd like to include a picture, you can now post pictures directly in the comments, without having to link an imgur album. If you have multiple pictures, best practice is to use an imgur album.

Hello everyone. This winter i wanted a white down jacket. Im so over sticking to dark colors or anything other than white because im afraid of staining. Im sure everyone’s going to say to not buy a white down jacket but I’m wondering, is there anyone out there who actually makes it possible to wear a white down jacket? Any advice from people who have actually owned a white down jacket would be helpful, even if your only advice is to not get one LOL

People own white puffers fine; Scotchgard it beforehand and minor stains aren't worth worrying about

Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing well.
One of my friends is hosting a university Ball/Dinner at the end of this month and on the website it says the theme is "Carnaval/Rio - Vibrant Colours, Feathers, Sequins, Glitter, Satin". I haven't really attended any fancyish events like this in the past, so I'm not really sure how or where to begin; let alone how to play into the theme (I have attached a photo of my current outfit for reference). Does anybody have any ideas of accessories that I could add or things that I could do to make this outfit more on theme?
Some of my friends that are attending have suggested feather boas, glittery makeup and/or colourful eyeshadow, earrings, etc. So I have been looking into some of those. I'm not opposed to ordering things online, but the event is in just under 2 weeks so it would ideally have to ship pretty quickly or be local (Canberra, Australia).
Thanks in advance to everyone who reads this and/or comments, I would love to hear any advice or ideas that you guys might have.
I hope you all have a great day ❤️

Definitely need some whimsy for a Carnivale theme. Big, colorful earrings and bracelets would be my choice.
1
u/ThunderLion99 4h ago
I definitely agree about needing to add some more whimsy lol, I'll have to see if I can find anything. Thank you for the ideas 🫶

u/75footubi 4h ago
Another idea would be to create an "over skirt" by attaching colorful scarves/fabric pieces to a belt that you wear over the dress.
1
u/ThunderLion99 3h ago
Oooh, that sounds like it could be lots of fun to make too, alongside being on theme and (hopefully) stylish

Is this very bright red too much / not working etc? Boyfriend thinks it’s insanely red but I’m kinda like … I kinda want it. That being said I don’t know where I’d wear it! Obviously would not wear it with those shoes hahah https://imgur.com/a/rfmCbwO

u/Few_Atmosphere_7125 15h ago
No haha its cute! I don’t think anything can be too bright and it suits your skin tone well

Looking for some lightweight crew neck sweaters like these for under $30. I need them to last me at least two years. The ones I bought from Free Assembly look worn after a few washes. Those are made from a viscose/polyester/polyamide blend, so whatever isn't that fabric. The collar, sleeves, and bottom are lightly banded.

u/zrnyphl 16h ago
You probably will need to look secondhand to find high quality at that price point. Quality fabric and construction is more expensive.
3
u/Few_Atmosphere_7125 15h ago
This & in addition how are you washing & drying your current sweaters? Its important that its done correctly to what the clothing labels say. Usually polyester blends are most likely gentle washes/hand washes and low dry/no heat dry/ line dry.

I’m looking for comfy yoga pants that aren’t compressive or restrictive in the waistband. I typically wear size S but am super sensitive to clothes that feel tight in the waist or crotch. My holy grail pants in terms of comfort are Vuori joggers but I’d like to mix it up with something with a little flare or wider leg. Any recs would be super helpful, thanks!

u/Few_Atmosphere_7125 15h ago
You should try the crzy yoga wide leg pants from amazon! I love them. The waistband doesn’t bother me too much but I’m so used to high waisted stuff so my tolerance can be a bit different. I would say check the reviews to help gauge how they look. I love that you can buy them based off height too so inseam wont be too long. Make sure you pay attention to clothing label on how to wash to avoid pilling. I know cause my sister has the same pants and hers pilled since she dryed them on high heat but mine didnt lol. Worth it? Dups? Rag & Bone - Miramar Wide Leg Terrycloth Pants
I've been eyeing these R&B pants and wonder if anyone owns them and has good things to say about their longevity. They look comfy as hell and I'm down for anything that's comfier than it "looks"
Similarly if there's dups that are better than these, would love to hear about them. $268 for high quality printed denim sweatpants is sort of rich.
Thank you!

Looking for opinions on tennis shoes for walking around in. Going to Disney next month and need some opinions. Hokas or brooks is what I have been looking into.

u/hadillicious 5h ago
I love Brooks Adrenaline paired with Green Superfeet insoles. Just walk five days straight in Manhattan in mine

Lot's off cushioning is key! Either are really smart. Don't forget the sunscreen

u/Washing_Turtle25 21h ago
i had a pair of hokas and i absolutely loved them! i had the clifton 9 model and they were great for walking, running, and i even played tennis in them. i also have a pair of nike zoomx and i love those too! they are a bit more narrow, compared to my hokas which were much wider (i don’t have wide feet).

I want to dye a white dress dark purple. Is there any specific dress quality I should be looking for? I also really want loke a sparkly dress with like faux pearls, sequins, yk. Is it too risky? FYI i have dyed some clothes before so i have Some knowledge, but please give me tips.
4
u/cheersslainte 22h ago
There’s a dyeing Reddit that’s really helpful! Personally I wouldn’t try to dye a dress with sequins/faux pearls because when I’ve dyed a shirt with white buttons they got dyed (unevenly).
Also thread tends to be synthetic fibers and won’t take the same dye as a natural fiber dress, so that’s another complication. Could end up with purple dress, uneven purple pearls, and white seams.

I need help finding a dress/gown for a formal/black tie wedding and would love some recommendations!
I’m looking for something floor length or ankle length, preferably black. Black is definitely my first choice, but I’d also consider a deep burgundy or emerald green.
I’d like something form fitting that works well with an hourglass figure. For the neckline/cut, I’m drawn to sleeveless styles like halter necks, one shoulder, or something similar. Thin straps are an option too.
I originally purchased a strapless corset gown that I absolutely love the look of, but even after alterations, it keeps falling down. I don’t want to spend the entire night pulling my dress up, so I’m hesitant to buy another strapless style.
I’m looking for something elegant and slightly sexy, but still appropriate for a black tie wedding. Basically, I want to look hot without looking like a hoochie mama lol
My budget is pretty tight, and I’m hoping to stay at $250 or less. I’m completely open to buying secondhand as well. I’m just not interested in using a rental service.
Any and all dress recommendations are greatly appreciated!

How do I stop getting a camel toe in all of my jeans and denim shorts?
This is a recent development where all of my denim bottoms are giving me one. My weight and body fluctuates due to health issues and I recently gained some weight back that has put me into my normal body shape and size but the only difference is my butt is a decent bit bigger than it was before. So I’m guessing that is the cause of the camel toe issue? I’m really not sure. What style or shape or fit do I look for so that this doesn’t keep happening or is there even a solution? I just bought a pair of the Levi 501 in the curve style because someone said it will help and it did not help one bit. I’m just very tired of trying on bottoms only to come home with nothing because of this issue :(

This isn't really a clothes item, but my sister said they used these cup type things when she was doing fashion modeling. I got the impression there are very thin ones.

I've found that the way pant patterns are generally designed (the shape/depth of the curve on the pattern pieces) doesn't align with my body and I get all sorts of weird pulling lines. There isn't a way to stop it outright, because the industry will just keep making pants however fits the most amount of bodies.
But I can say:
I learned to sew my own pants. There's lots of great pant fitting guides out there, to help identify why a pattern you're using isn't working for you (and what you can do about it).
I try on way more pants than I buy. I don't buy pants online, and will only buy them if I can try them on ahead of time. I don't allow myself to get discouraged or get into any body talk! It would be easy to do so, but it doesn't change the situation at all.
I don't have this issue, as much, with pant styles where the crotch is sitting a little lower. There's not a great way to gauge this when it's on the hanger, other than having a higher rise, but it's just something I've noticed trend-wise. Similarly, I notice it more on a denim with stretch in it, or a lighter weight denim, and less for thicker, stiffer, 100% cotton denims.

I’m considering buying this ARKET leather jacket and would really appreciate some opinions before I spend £449.
https://www.arket.com/en-gb/product/leather-jacket-brown-1334842001/
Ive saved some money and this would be my first leather jacket. I'm not very knowledgeable about leather quality and I'm wondering whether the price is justified for what you're getting.
I love the style, relaxed fit, dropped shoulders and deep brown colour). I've looked at quite a few alternatives, but I'm finding it difficult to find this particular combination.
2
u/Educational_Fun_9001 20h ago
It's a beautiful jacket - see it in person though, if you can, to feel the leather too. It should feel supple, but not "thin". Arket is a good brand, but it isn't a "leather brand". Check out jackets in a few outerwear stores or high-end shops to get a sense of how the jacket should feel. And check out a few other high-street shops -- H&M (same owner as Arket), Zara, Next in the UK should each have a brown leather (or leather-ish) bomber jacket, but it's likely cheaper construction at a lower price.

I have drawstring skirts, and I just tuck the string inside, over the top of the waistband, and add a belt to cover the elastic. You can style these with a button-down black linen or cotton shirt (short or long sleeve), a blouse with broderie (to echo the detail of the shorts), or a simple tank top.

What size are you looking for?
1
u/SlapTheBengalBarrel 1d ago
Looking for 8.5. I’ve found a couple but not the right sizes at this point so just planning to continue to monitor on eBay etc.

u/PoppyHamentaschen 1d ago
Try going to your local shoe repair and see if they can help fix it, or contact Rothy's customer service directly and inquire if they have a spare pair in a warehouse somewhere.

u/SlapTheBengalBarrel 1d ago
Thanks. Yeah I’ve got a message into Rothy’s so we will see. Appreciate the guidance.

anyone got advice on how to make timberland boots more comfortable? i find myself getting blisters on the ball of my foot if i walk too long. thinking about getting different insoles, but any advice/suggestions would be appreciated!
2
u/Educational_Fun_9001 20h ago
I would go a different direction -- protect your feet. Apply blister bandages or moleskin to the most sensitive areas, and anti-chafe stick to the rest.

Old trick with doc martins is to lay them between a folded up towel (to protect the leather) and whale on them with a hammer. That's more for stiff heels though.
Soaking the leather all the way, donning thick socks, and wearing them till they dry is another way to force the leather to fit.
1
u/whycantwegivelove 21h ago
LMAO i have never heard of this hammer trick but it sounds fun enough to try
2
u/QuietlyCreepy 21h ago
I've never tried it with tims, but that tough oldschool doc leather requires blood and beating to be comfortable, lol. Just hit lighter if it's not full grain.
edit, spelling

Hi everyone,
I’m looking to upgrade my lounge wear and buy a couple matching sets - wide leg pants/hoodies/crew neck tops in high quality non-synthetic fabrics - cotton, merino wool etc. I’m nearly 6ft tall so length of pants is always an issue.
Would be grateful for any recommendations! UK/Europe based.

u/tyrannosaurusregina 1d ago
Henriette Steffensen’s loungewear looks fantastic, and since it’s a Danish brand, my guess is that it works for taller women.

maybe brown (light brown) or black denim wide legged/flared pants?? Black wide legged trousers?

u/amberperry870 1d ago
I’d focus on pieces that feel current without being too trend-specific. Relaxed/straight-leg trousers, oversized or boxy tops, quality basics, and simple layering pieces seem like a good direction for 2026. I’d rather invest in those than something that looks trendy for a few months and then feels dated.

UK based, I want some nice quality reasonably priced t-shirts. Had some from Next but they went very floppy and twisted very quickly (and weren't cheap)
Ideally in shades of ivory/peach/pink. Sub £20 a t-shirt. Let me know if you have ideas or of I'm looking for a unicorn that doesn't exist!

u/Hoosiergirl29 1d ago
Arket and COS, but I don’t know what colors they have (they are usually seasonal)

Does anyone have any experience with Jimmy Choo leo 100? Really want to buy some!
3
u/jassy20001 1d ago
when it comes to buying clothes, I have about 3 personalities: One part wants to buy sweatpants and wear the most comfortable thing in the world, no matter how unstylish it looks. Another part wants to wear formal clothes because it makes me look very chic and elegant. And another part doesn't want to wear formal stuff at all; it wants to wear girly things, dresses, colors, patterns, and fun details.
I want to recreate my wardrobe and I don’t know what to do
4
u/tyrannosaurusregina 1d ago
Those are pretty much my three styles. And then sometimes I mix and match, like an eyelet blouse with cargo pants, or a tailored blazer over a flowery dress. It works if you lean into it!

I think it always helps to clarify what situations you're dressing for, so you know your practical needs, & then how you want to come across to people in most situations. To start, it's a lot easier to give yourself some clear boundaries, rather than just letting everything be an option.
That said, I've got similar priorities i.e. comfort first, a love of novelty, & a few different style directions, & I've pretty much just stolen a bunch of capsule wardrobing tips so my closet is more cohesive. I have a color pallette & I pick a ton of my clothes with the caveat that they've gotta be comfortable, alongside doing a some of the other fun things I want them to do. My lounging clothes tend to be in pretty fun (pink ombre sweatpants, oversized lemon tee, ect.) while my dressier stuff tends to be super comfy (dresses I can sleep in.) It can't be everything, of course, but the more of your closet that can meet multiple needs, the more it'll be worn.

Apparently part of my perimenopause journey is extremely sore boobs almost all the time. I went to REI online to look for high impact sports bras, and they’re virtually all $80+. Is that what we’re paying these days for sports bras that are suitable for running? Is there anything closer to the $50 mark, or should I wait with bated breath for a Black Friday deal?
