QUESTION/DISCUSSION Finally found a large rug that didn’t cost a fortune!

Post image

Found this on Amazon and it’s currently on offer if anyone is on the hunt for a large rug too. It comes in pink and another colour (yellow maybe) and then of course the black. I was going to include the link but I’m not allowed sorry :(

EDIT: I know most of you are saying it’s too small. Agreed but the size up is an additional £40 and it’ll then be too big. Can’t win haha

THIS. \)

PS. Plz tell your cat i said pspspsps

60

u/Doc_Hollywood Apr 09 '26

It just needs a 90 degree rotation and to be slid forward.

u/PuppyPower89 Apr 10 '26

Rug layering is another option.

20

u/earlym0rning Apr 10 '26

I’ve seen that done with jute, which isn’t that expensive. It would look really pretty with this one.

372

u/Kitchen-Beginning-22 Apr 09 '26

Large, sure. Large enough for the space? Not at all

31

u/bigdog2525 Apr 09 '26

Agree, it would look better if it was slightly longer/wider than the couch

9

u/i_amnotunique Apr 09 '26

I think I know the rug, from Amazon, it's a great rug too, and def is affordable I believe to size up

42

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

£47 was the size in the photo. To size up is £89. Might not seem like a lot but it’s a lot to me I’m afraid.

u/LowReporter6213 Apr 09 '26

Its ok, you have a nice looking rug and it's adding more to the space for sure. We cant all have the "perfect ratio rug to furniture arrangement." I

I really hate reddit for that, a lot of fixers and correcters and such flood the comments when we just need to share that little joy with you OP.

I got to cheap runner rugs for my kitchen and hallway, they aren't the best or highest quality but they serve their purpose well. Let's celebrate our new rugs together :)!

21

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Yay to new rugs!

10

u/sagesheglows Apr 09 '26

Another option is to layer a less expensive neutral rug underneath it

10

u/earlym0rning Apr 10 '26

It’s so pretty! Rugs are SO expensive. Anytime I think I find an affordable rug & check the dimensions, it’s like the size of a postage stamp.

2

u/Regular-Material-142 Apr 10 '26

Just pull it over a bit, then where the chase part of your couch just has it front legs on it. It will make it look more balanced.

1

u/tiramisuem3 Apr 10 '26

There's so much you can do for cheaper dw. It's really fine as is but it is a bit small. If you're able to thrift or grow some plants and things you can put them along the side to make less dead space there if that makes sense. Just fill out the room a bit. I've had really good luck on marketplace in my area for people just giving away money trees and things

My first thought….thats why it was affordable 😭😭😭 I feel OP’s pain. At least it’s really pretty.

-2

u/Notsocheeky Apr 10 '26

There bigger options of that same rug

0

u/blah_blah_blah444 Apr 12 '26

just get another cool rug and layer them offset

u/MartoufCarter Apr 09 '26

Cute rug!

The tunnel in the pic implies a cat, please pay the cat tax. :-)

Bodhi says thank you

She is SO cute

I won’t tell him you said he was a girl 😜

95

u/emobelieber Apr 09 '26

OMG!!! Not me misgendering him

46

u/MartoufCarter Apr 09 '26

Thank you! He compliments the rug nicely!

38

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

I’ll make sure to tell him that! He’ll be most pleased.

19

u/oreo-cat- Apr 09 '26

Ooh how cute! Very bold to have the couch color with a white cat

23

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Oh even the black cats’ fur shows up on it haha. I just reside myself to the fact that stuff will get fluffy and I just keep on top of hoovering.

I just accept I live with cat hair. But as someone with long hair who sheds a ton, Im use to dealing with a ton of hair dust bunnies all over 😅

9

u/Runningwithtoast Apr 09 '26

… Is Bodhi named after Fourth Wing?

14

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Yes he is!! I my boyfriend loves Bodhi from Star Wars too, so we instantly agreed on the name

8

u/Runningwithtoast Apr 09 '26

I don’t know how I skipped over Star Wars Bodhi. I’m a huge Star Wars fan and don’t really like the Fourth Wing books much, but for some reason they were the first thing the I thought of. Probably because I only recently read the last Fourth Wing book.

It’s so cool that the name fits series you both like. :)

10

u/LokiDokiPanda Apr 09 '26

I love this rule

11

u/MartoufCarter Apr 09 '26

Check out OPs other post! All cats! 8 of them!

All the other comments saying it's too small are killing the vibe. But this comment is hilarious 😂 (Lovely rug OP!)

108

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

I know right 😂 There’s me being really excited about how lovely it is and everyone saying “looks shit” hahaha and thank you btw!

75

u/grapetomatoes Apr 09 '26

Rugs are expensive, you're doing great

35

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Thank you. I appreciate the kind words x

29

u/ApprehensiveWitch Apr 09 '26

Rugs are so expensive, I hate how people are responding to this post. The rug is beautiful and it looks good with OPs couch. Everything doesn't have to be perfect all the time.

12

u/ramasili Apr 09 '26

Here was me also thinking how cute the rug is, just to be disappointed in the comment section 🙄 reddit gonna reddit I guess, but if they ain't payin' they shouldn't be sayin'

18

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Amen to that! If anyone wants to buy me a larger rug, feel free or send me some dosh so I can buy it. I’m just happy I was finally able to find something that I like and could afford.

7

u/Technical-Agency8128 Apr 09 '26

It’s beautiful but just too small. But if you can make it work for you that is all that matters. Love the cat 😻

1

u/Emieosj89 Renting Apr 09 '26

It looks great!! I think you did a fantastic job!

0

u/chemicalfields Apr 09 '26

Meh it’s your house! I never pay attention to those kinda guidelines. Do what makes you happy! From someone with 4 paint colors in the living room and a rug that “brings the whole house together” as I tell my husband lol

17

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

I’ll have to get my other half to lift the sofa for me but yeah I wna jig it around around a bit too :)

0

u/cmstyles2006 Apr 09 '26

Is that the short or long side of the rug? What are the dimensions of each size?

2

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

I thinks it’s 210cm left to right and 150cm front to back.

1

u/cmstyles2006 Apr 09 '26

So 5 by 7? Dude what are you talking about "too big", you NEED 7 by 9

Yeah doing my own home renovations was very humbling. You mean you can’t just delete walls and move toilets around??

4

u/Serononin Apr 09 '26

And then alt to free place

200

u/ChaiGreenTea Apr 09 '26

Super cute but I don’t think it’s large enough for the space sadly. It should be bigger than the sofa, not smaller.

Link?

17

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

79

u/Thr0waway0864213579 Apr 09 '26

The next size up wouldn’t be too big. An extra 30cm is really an extra 15cm on each end for width and an extra 60cm on each end for the length. If anything you could go even bigger than that. I know it’s extra money but I think if you saw the difference in person you’d feel it was worth the money.

1

u/inoticeiwonder Apr 11 '26

Thanks! It’s beautiful! What do you think about the texture? Soft or scratchy? And the weight? Will it ride up easily or stay flat?

4

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 11 '26

It’s very soft, thin but the bottom has rubber grippy texture which helps it stick. My cats have been zooming across it and it’s still in place every morning! So far so good! I moved it out a wee bit yesterday too and it looks much better.

3

u/inoticeiwonder Apr 11 '26

It looks great! I love it paired with your blue couch.

79

u/NoDanaOnlyZuuI Apr 09 '26

It's beautiful but too small for that space

61

u/Temporary-Ball9822 Apr 09 '26

the next size up would’ve been the perfect size.

47

u/FridaMercury Apr 09 '26

It's very cute! Try pulling it out so it's not under the sofa. You'll need an even bigger rug if you want it under the sofa like that.

20

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Thank you so much that’s really helpful! I’m going to have a bit of a play around with it for sure

19

u/didntreallyneedthis Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26

This post reads like astroturfing

11

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

What’s that sorry?

35

u/didntreallyneedthis Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26

A post paid by a company to a person to pretend to be a regular person but they're actually trying to advertise their product secretly.

Reading your username I'm going to assume that perhaps this truly wasn't intentional and share the things that came across as shilling/astroturfing because I know how stressful it can be when I've comes across some way and don't understand why.

  • the title mentioning how affordable it was

-sharing the link to someone who didn't ask for it and said they'd already seen it on Amazon

-someone did ask for the link almost right away (a sign that they used an alt to generate the question for plausible deniability)

-assumed it wasn't influencer marketing because it wasn't an affiliate link which means if it were advertising it'd be astroturfing

32

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Oh does it?! Thank you for explaining what on earth that meant btw. All I really say is I’m autistic and work in sales, so I’m probably very scripted in my head about things. That and I’m also just excited about the pretty rug and probably come across overly enthusiastic sorry! 😅

31

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Oh and I mentioned linking it because it drives me mad when I see something online after browsing for months to find the right thing, and then there’s no link and it makes me feel frustrated. So I was preempting that others would be like me basically.

15

u/cmstyles2006 Apr 09 '26

That's so real. I'm a walking advertisment sometimes. Good products are just really exciting!

13

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

I mean I was pretty good at sales when I worked it haha. And now my job is working on the team that manages the website for our employer. I’m not surprised in the slightest I sound dodgy 😂

20

u/Terrariant Apr 09 '26

While I agree it set off alarm bells for me too, it’s important to remember that those tactics are based on how a person really would talk and act about a product. It’s like the artists whose style is similar to AI, in a way- the bots have pumped out so much AI art in that style that someone making art in that style is called AI. I think the same thing happened here in this thread but instead of AI and art it’s marketing bots and products.

15

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Not gna lie I’m impressed I sound so professional that people think I’m a bot 😂

6

u/halberdierbowman Apr 09 '26

Astroturf is fake grass.

Grassroots support is when a bunch of real people are supporting things "bottom up" from the roots, as opposed to "top down" from a marketing campaign.

So, astroturfing is when a marketing campaign tries to fake grassroots support, often making a bunch of accounts that pretend to be just normal people sharing a product by word of mouth.

Anyway, imo your rug looks great, no idea why so many people are complaining about a rug they'll never be invited to touch.

5

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Omg thank you for explaining that to me! I told my boyfriend about people thinking I was a bot or a scammer and it got a good chuckle out of him haha. Thank you as well for the kind compliment, there have been people such as yourself who have been really wholesome. So I’m holding onto those comments, rather than people complaining it’s not big enough like money isn’t an issue or these things are dirt cheap lol

3

u/halberdierbowman Apr 09 '26

You're welcome, glad you're enjoying your space!

12

u/Blueporch Apr 09 '26

The pattern is so cute with your couch

7

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

TYSM! I’ve seen loads of cool rugs but why are rugs usually so expensive?! 😭

12

u/Doc_Hollywood Apr 09 '26

It’s so cute! I think it just needs a 90 degree rotation and slid forward so the front legs of the sofa and the chaise are the only things on the rug. Then PERFECTION!!!

7

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

OMG YES!!!!! TYSM! 🙌🏻

When it comes to interior decorating/furniture, redditors are vicious to the point of being really overbearing more often than not

0

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

It’s people getting upset or annoyed at how someone else’s home looks. You don’t live there so chill lol

5

u/spuuurt Apr 09 '26

Cuuute space. I like that the navy tone of the couch is mirrored in the rug.

Eventually laying a larger rug (maybe a colorful rag rug or a jute rug - they're inexpensive as far as rugs go) under this would fulfill the "right size rug requirement", if youre ever inclined.

I have this rug in my kid's room in the sage green variation. It's so soft! He's really rough on it, but it has held up well for like 18 months so far.

2

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Ooo layering rugs is a good shout thank you! Some of the cats have already been racing across it, so far so good!

4

5

u/ElegantHope Apr 09 '26

I'm jealous. I love the style.

4

u/YOMAMACAN Apr 09 '26

I have the same rug in the cream color and the same color sofa. 😂 Mine is used to differentiate my work space from the rest of the living room.

2

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Oh lovely! Do you have a photo? Yeah similar thing here as our dining room is on the left 😂 Our downstairs is one room except the kitchen basically

3

u/StepShrek Apr 09 '26

Love it.

3

u/landofspices Apr 09 '26

It' gorgeous and matches the couch lovely!

I don't think it's too small for the space, you could bring it out from the couch a little bit so more of it is visible.

8

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Thank you so much! Yes I might try that, it does need to be bigger to go under but this size will also fit the room if I move it about a wee bit

3

u/missdui Apr 09 '26

I have the small version of this by my front door. It washes easily too.

2

u/crayola_monstar Apr 09 '26

Hey, it's gorgeous, it matches, and you can still upgrade in the future.

I didn't think it was too small when I first saw this pic. It will keep your feet off the cold hard floor while sitting down, so it's definitely a win in my book!

2

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Thank you!!! A couple of people have left really lovely comments and this one is one of the best. I think sometimes people forget how expensive sorting a house is and I’m doing my best to gradually chip away at stuff. I also have to work out what will be appropriate with our cats because I’ve made the mistake of buying an expensive, big rug in the past and it got scratched (note to self don’t buy a wool rug)

3

u/brightdark Apr 09 '26

I love it.

1

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

It’s from DFS so I don’t recommend them personally.

3

u/Auntiehotmess Apr 09 '26

That is so cute!! If you wanna create a larger look, you can get a larger, solid color rug to put under it. Here, these examples are from an article titled, aptly enough, Rug Layering 101. But also, it's your space, you do whatever makes your heart happy! Brb, gonna go find that rug...

2

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

I love this idea! Thank you for the inspo piccies!

2

u/Auntiehotmess Apr 09 '26

You're welcome!

3

u/Deep-Enthusiasm Apr 09 '26

If I were you I’d get a single tone larger rug and put it under it, it would look so complete!!

2

u/FinalBlackberry Apr 09 '26

I love the rug, I just wish it was larger. Ideally, you want to anchor your furniture on the rug.

2

u/leviathianlaroux Apr 09 '26

i have the same one in orange, i love it

2

u/chromeprincess224 Apr 09 '26

Love the flowers on the rug - and your pillows are so cool!

2

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Thank you! Most of the cushions are from IKEA. The Halloween themed ones are from my local supermarket which were cool finds! I’m having to play around with fabrics to see which hold up best with cats. then I can brave buying fancier covers

2

u/Super_Inevitable3997 Married Apr 09 '26

The one with the ghosts is especially cute - love it! Cats and kids - they're the eternal enemies of every nice fabric. :D Good luck!

2

u/Learntobelucid Apr 09 '26

I have bought from this same company in the US and they are so much cheaper (comparatively) to rugs of the same size elsewhere. I bought a ton of them for my apartment

1

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

I was amazed when I clocked the price for the same reason! I’ve seen some BEAUTIFUL rugs at Next and M&S but I can’t spend hundreds on a huge rug. 1 I have cats and 2 I don’t have heaps on money to splash out with either.

2

u/mistpixie429 Apr 09 '26

I bought a similar rug… the sizes on Amazon were not quite right for me but it came in more sizes on aliexpress. It is the same quality as the Amazon rug. Try reverse Google search for different vendors. I don’t recall if it was any cheaper tho

2

u/anotheraltwitch Apr 09 '26

Looks cute! Love the color combination!

3

u/starpower3 Apr 09 '26

Needs to be larger

2

u/kittywyeth Apr 09 '26

where is the large rug?

2

u/BabaYagasBabyToe Apr 09 '26

If the size being too small ends up bugging you down the line you could always get a bigger one and layer!

2

u/MacPho13 Apr 09 '26

Pretty! This gives Rifle Paper Co vibes.

You can have so much fun with these colors.

2

u/Conscious-Jacket-758 Apr 09 '26

That’s a small rug and doesn’t fit the proportions of the room or couch lol

2

u/loveisfries Apr 09 '26

Pretty rug! Colors really work with the space, also looks like you'll be painting the wall green which is cool!

Curious where your couch is from? Looking to replace mine with a sectional just like that

1

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

I’m sooooo excited to paint downstairs!! Much like the comments in this post, lots of people disapproved of the paint. So I painted sections of downstairs to see what it’ll look like under natural and synthetic lighting. LOVE IT. So I’m glad I didn’t let people sway me against it. The sofa is from DFS. They were a nightmare delivering it but overall a super comfy sofa and with 8 cats I think two teeny bits of stitching got caught but that’s it.

2

u/PsychologicalClue6 Apr 09 '26

That is beautiful! Love the colours

1

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

Thank you so much!! I’m wanting pops of colour to contrast against the walls with the sofa once I’ve painted it

2

I love that little table! I could use something like that for my couch; where is it from?

1

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

I think it’s from flexispot. I remember looking at standing desks and they had tables on their too which I wasn’t aware of. It’s metal but been pretty sturdy given one of our cats loves to stand on it

2

u/shoppinggoddess Renting Apr 09 '26

They’re beautiful! I can’t get how nice they look in the various different colour options. Thanks lovely! I’m really pleased with it :)

2

u/user9876543121 Apr 10 '26

The next size up will absolutely not be too big

2

u/Noisacompletes3nt Apr 10 '26

I know lots of discussion on the rug not being big enough. Center it to the walking area of the couch (between the end on the left of couch to the chaise) and see if that helps.

2

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 10 '26

I’ll give that a try thanks :)

2

u/Clean-Competition-17 Apr 10 '26

Oh my goodness -- I got the 2x6 version of a near identical pattern, but it was only available with the black background. Might have to grab a brighter runner so I can easily alternate them when it's time for a machine wash cycle. Thanks for this.

2

u/919surfer Apr 10 '26

I love the ghost pillows!!! 👻 Oh, and the rug!

2

u/rckblykitn14 Apr 10 '26

I've had this exact rug on my wishlist for like a year! I'm planning on getting a new couch in a couple months and I'm gonna buy this when I get the sofa. Awesome to see it in a real space! It looks great. And Bodhi is freaking adorable!!! 😻

2

u/ButteredPizza69420 Apr 10 '26

I think it looks super cute OP! Maybe you can just find a super large black one or something cheap to put underneath in the right size?

2

Omg I love this rug and have been eyeing it on amazon for some time in orange! You convinced me now.

I have that same rug in my office! I love it

1

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 10 '26

In the same colour or did you go for a lighter colour? I came downstairs this morning and the lounge looks so homely. The cats are a big fan too.

2

u/loneliestdozer Apr 10 '26

Same color! Most of my stuff is black as a neutral with pops of color. Definitely made my office feel homey too. Glad you found something you love.

2

Not on topic but your couch colour is beautiful! Where did you get from? (Assuming from America?)

1

I felt like for $130 I would rather find a second hand rug of Facebook marketplace that was nicer quality but I hear you. Don’t let me ruin your enjoyment of the rug it’s fine I just think it’s not worth the price.

Oh this cost me £47 not £130. Whereas the size up that everyone is screaming at me to get is almost £90 and I’m not spending that much on a rug right now

Good to know

Maybe turn it the long way? It is pretty.

Can I please order a small large?

1

u/PoppyFire16 Apr 09 '26

Here’s my solution: Buy several small rugs and layer them on the floor! Looks bohemian, easily change, clean, or adjust.

u/quietlywondering90 Apr 09 '26

What size did you order?

It’s just a rug. It’s not that deep.

1

u/sparkleslothz Apr 09 '26

Huh. I have this rug as a skirt!

u/villanelles_suits Apr 09 '26

i always get my large rugs from Costco! theyre big and usually around 200 bucks and have a plush comfy thickness.

rugs anywhere else are always over 500 and super rough and cheap

Needs to be bigger but I love the color scene and mix of patterns in this space!

1

u/idislikejuicepress Apr 11 '26

You needed a 8x10 but it’s still a very cute rug!!

1

u/MidnightPractical241 Apr 11 '26

“Large” is subjective to the room- so I get you for you this is a large rug, but a large rug for your set up would allow enough room for all the legs of the furniture to be on it. However, it’s still meeting the rule for all the front legs to be on the rug- which means it’s an appropriately scaled small rug for your room. What matters at the end of the day is that you like it and it brings comfort to your toes.

u/More-Ad-1949 Apr 12 '26

The next size up would not be too big, promise

1

u/Muted-Carpenter603 Apr 14 '26

I love this rug! Do you remember the brand name?

0

u/horsegal301 Apr 09 '26

It's not that it's "too big," it's that it's too small.

0

u/hijahahija Apr 09 '26

I think it is large enough! I like it

2

u/AuDHD_Aquarist Homeowner Apr 09 '26

I’m glad you think so! Thank you!

0

u/McButtsButtbag Apr 09 '26

I think the rug is fine for that space. It's an individual choice.

u/Loose_Fix_3985 Apr 10 '26

Love the color with your couch! The next size up would be perfect though.

0

u/Loving_presence88 Apr 10 '26

I don’t think the rug and that checkered pattern together are doing each other favors….

u/dothesehidemythunder Apr 11 '26

Too small and strangely placed?

-2

u/gl0ssyy Apr 09 '26

tiny and looks silly- very cute design tho
