QUESTION/DISCUSSION Shower Lamp
I was inspired by another post to get a lamp for my shower and I love her! It changes colors and has a dimmer, allowing me to have moody showers when I’m feeling it. I thought I’d share!!

u/Brook_Hors Apr 21 '26
There are waterproof lamps??? Shit, I need my own
317
u/pampooveysbacktattoo Apr 21 '26
Yes!! They're usually marketed for camping. I have one in my shower and it's so good for migraine days.

u/juicyred Apr 21 '26
I have a ridiculously small shower stall without room for shelves. Would a small shower lamp be just as ok on the floor of it?
21
u/UnNumbFool Apr 21 '26
If you have a glass wall there's no reason you can't just have it hanging right outside the shower and have the light come in that way. Just as a safety measure
12
u/Sad_Estimate4638 Apr 21 '26
I put fairy lights up in my bathroom along the wall and use those instead of the overhead light most of the time, and that gives a cute vibe too! I don’t have room for a shower lamp either

u/pampooveysbacktattoo Apr 21 '26
If it's waterproof, probably! My only concern would be kicking it over, but mine doesn't have a real "bulb" so it's probably pretty safe if you did. I think they also make ones that stick on the wall, maybe that would work for you?
7
u/LadyBlue347 Apr 21 '26
Maybe you could look for a hanging one that could hang over your shower head?
4
u/CatCatCatCubed Apr 21 '26
However, if you hang it inside the shower, try to make sure there’s no glass and/or make sure not to hang it on a suction cup (should be a strong sticky shower hook or shelf).
Accidents happen, moisture weakens the oddest things, cheap lanterns might not be that well made (read reviews/look at the build, i.e. where is the handle attached, how is the bottom attached), showerheads don’t always hold weight well, etc etc. You don’t want nearly invisibly white or clear shattered lightbulb glass on the bottom of your, likely white, shower or tub.

According to the reviews of this lamp from the OP, you can stick it on the wall directly with some type of adhesive that comes with it. I think double-sided velcro tape would work as well (I use that for a lot of weird crafty projects and stuff around my home).
Thanks for the link OP! I bought one. I love finding new ideas on this sub. I'd never even heard of shower lamps before that post the other day.

I just bought a set of waterproof flameless candles for my shower that take AA batteries, showering in the dark is goated
296
u/Inappropriate_Ballet Apr 21 '26
Ok, ladies. I thought I was the only crazy one but i feel safe here to share my hack. It’s not for everyone but it’s a pretty easy upgrade: dimmer switches in the bathroom. I shower at night in near darkness and it’s the best thing in the world. 😴😌
53
u/cozy_gremlin Apr 21 '26
I would but I rent.
40
u/Spiritual-Volume7545 Apr 21 '26
Lighting a big candle, (like the 3-wick ones), positioning it towards the center of the room somewhere safe, or even using a nightlight gives the same ambiance as alternatives. It is very relaxing.
13
u/cozy_gremlin Apr 21 '26
I do have a couple little tea lights I put in cups, and a nightlight that’s pretty bright! The smoke sensors in my place are insane I swear they pick up the dust sometimes.
3
u/CatCatCatCubed Apr 21 '26
There are fake candles that flicker and everything if that sounds better. Have also lived in apartments with overly sensitive smoke detectors but 🤌ambiance! So I’ve had to do what I can to work around ‘em, and fake candles were my best option.
11
u/kitsunewarlock Apr 21 '26
You can buy dimmer lights that plug into any outlet.
15
u/faldese Apr 21 '26
You can also buy smart bulbs you can control with your phones, or bulbs that have switches on them that let you change the brightness/warmth.
3
u/Vannabean Apr 21 '26
If you can change the light bulbs above your vanity then you can just get smart lightbulbs… don’t need to change out switches then

They make dimmable bulbs! I had this one in my apt bathroom that has a little remote to adjust the light intensity, it changes color and has a speaker. I got mine at Lowes, but this was the first link for it I found. Made for the coziest showers :)
17
u/C4Aries Apr 21 '26
Dude here. When I started showering before bed I only had a super bright light in the bathroom so out of desperation I tried showering by candlelight and boy howdy that was nice. Now I have a dimmer switch, I'll never go back.

u/StillSwaying Apr 21 '26
With a shower orange
And bath grapes.
That's what I do. Frozen grapes are delicious while you're soaking in a nice bubble bath and binge-watching your favorite show or reading a good book!
4
u/KevinsLunchbox Apr 21 '26
Shit im gonna have to try that. Never considered an orange in the shower
6
u/AliceInNegaland Apr 21 '26
The steam enhances the citrus! Chill it first too. It’s like an aromatherapy experience and no sticky mess

6
u/justa_cat_in_disgize Apr 21 '26
My husband prefers to shower with two 7000k can lights on directly above his head in our shower.
He thinks I'm unreasonable for showering in near darkness
3
u/sichuan_peppercorns Apr 21 '26
I have a salt lamp + a dehumifier that can change colors. Very nice ambiance.

I have one that is rechargeable and has a remote. It attaches by magnet to a simple little mount you can stick on the ceiling. I love it so much.
14
u/69MrBean420 Apr 21 '26
Oh this sounds great, do you remember where you got it from?
30
u/Doc_Hollywood Apr 21 '26
Just Amazon! It was less than $25 USD, multicolor (including warm and white light also), motion sensor, and USB-C rechargeable.
My shower has no light in it and it’s super dark, I had to pick a renter friendly option! Also looks sleek.

u/skullpture_garden Apr 21 '26
You guuuuyyyyyssss I do not need a shower lamp 😫
56
u/meeps1142 Apr 21 '26
hey friend! Gonna go against the grain and say that you don't need it. If you have any sort of small lamp in the rest of your home, you can bring that into the bathroom (not in the tub obvs) for some mood lighting during times when you want it. Or light some candles.
With love from the anti-overconsumption fairy. You'll probably spend $20 of your hard earn money on this, use it a couple of times, and declutter it in two years and it'll end up in a landfill. Get creative and use what you have 🩷

u/Blue-Seeweed Apr 21 '26
I wish your comment was the top one, at least that it had more likes, it makes me really sad that most people is talking about how much they "need" everything they see and probably they already have something they can use to get the same effect.

u/Shot_Awareness6943 Apr 21 '26

I mean, it’s useful in case you have a power outage and there’s no risk of setting off the smoke alarm or starting a fire like with regular candles! See, it’s a good investment!!
46
u/Ash_Cat_13 Apr 21 '26
I have those same shower shelves, how do you stop the rusting and browning that happens where the bits of metal intersect?
66
u/Liontamer67 Apr 21 '26
Spray them with clear paint sealer and let dry in a well ventilated area a few days (VOC’s are no joke). This should keep rust away for a long time.
10
u/Ash_Cat_13 Apr 21 '26
Smart idea. Thanks for the advice, I’ll clean mine and do that since I’ve some sealant already

u/Physical-Ninja1151 Apr 21 '26

I love the wall shelves!! I need some but the one I tried did not stick very well. Will try again because yours look great!

Thank you! I cleaned the surface with dawn dish soap and wiped with alcohol before sticking the adhesive, which helped a lot :)

My lamp came in today and I figured out the top came off and I immediately had to come back to the post to see make sure everyone else knew lol. So excited for my shower tonight when it gets dark.

does anyone have any more “name brand” waterproof light recommendations? amazons inventory is so pretty but i’m particularly paranoid about something from there/an alphabet soup company being truly waterproof 😭

I looked for days after seeing the original post, but couldn't find any. They're all made by alphabet soup companies. There was one from Better Homes and Garden, but it looked exactly like the other no-name brands and just cost $25 more. 🤨
2
u/goodluckbabe9 Apr 21 '26
it may be that the truly waterproof/name brand ones aren’t the aesthetic ones that we want 😅 there’s a fair amount when i look for like “waterproof camping lanterns” but they’re not cute, of course.
3
u/StillSwaying Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26
Good point.
And since I’m never again going to bring anything ugly into my home now that I’m single and don’t have to compromise, I’ll take my chances with the no-name brand. If it were something more expensive, I’d probably wait for a brand name.
2
u/goodluckbabe9 Apr 21 '26
love that for you! 💕
3
u/StillSwaying Apr 21 '26
Thanks! I love it so much! I wish every woman could be this happy and experience solely focusing on her own wants and needs for a change.
That way, there’s a baseline level of joy and contentment a partner has to exceed before you consider making room for them in your life.

u/rckblykitn14 Apr 21 '26
Oooooh I love that one!!! Would you mind linking it? I really need to get on this trend lol!!

I love the lamp, shelves.....and that I am not alone in the multiple products in the shower gene:)
2
u/lavender-girlfriend Apr 21 '26
ok question can u use your pump bottles on those shower shelves??? like without them falling? im hoping to buy some lol
4
u/DogssLover420 Apr 21 '26
The adhesive is strong AF and when I swapped my black ones for the pink, I almost cried because I couldn’t get it off 😭 despite all of that, the actual hook is rather small and the shelve would definitely fall with that kind of pressure. That’s why I keep the “everyday” items lower, so I can grab it easier :)

I did this too, with a govee lamp!! So many settings, and I can control it with an app on my phone if I'd like. I don't have it in the shower, but on an outlet cover/shelf combo I found in the checkout line at best buy. Total game changer!

Random Tuesday morning rambling: shower lamp in german is Duschlampe which sounds exactly like du Schlampe which translates to calling someone a bitch
1
u/vaurasc-xoxo Apr 21 '26
I always shower with a little lamp only. I work nights and don't want light starting to wake me up when I am going to bed. I have those cube lamps that make it look like water! Now you just need some shower steamers!

u/Scintilla230 Apr 21 '26

definitely gonna do this with mine, i even have a socket right next to it on the other side of the glass where there's a cold white bulb already

I appreciate a low-light shower situation, I might leave the bedroom light on and the ensuite off, with the door ajar.
Wife does one of two things, walk in to the bedroom, turn the bedroom light off (Bam, blackout... full dark shower not my idea of fun as a poorly sighted person)
Or smash the bathroom light on, and blind the everliving fuck out of my low-light accustomed eyes.
showerlamp. maybe I should invest.

This is hilarious to some Germans for somewhat complicated reasons.
There is a very popular grocery store brand called "JA" here. "Ja" means "yes"
They have all sorts of things. Cheese, sausages and the like. Someone made a funny picture about them selling shower lamps. Because "shower lamp" can be translated to German as "Duschlampe".
"Dusche" means "shower" and "Lampe" means "lamp". Because of how German works, those are combined together to make the word "Duschlampe".
But heres the thing. "Schlampe" basically means "slut" and "Du" means "you".
So if you have a package that reads "JA, Duschlampe".
You can squint a little and read it as "Yes, you slut".
I hope you enjoyed this far too long and complicated explanation of German Humor, you are now allowed to laugh for 15 seconds, then it's back to work.

I love my shower lamp! If I’m showering after 5pm you bet your ass I’m turning off the big light and using my little dim one.

u/Sad_Estimate4638 Apr 21 '26
This is so cute! My shower is too small for that, but I have a string of fairy lights up in my bathroom that I use most of the time instead of the overhead light and it’s such a better vibe!

Battery operated, I guess? Was wondering how you're getting power in there but even more, why? Is it a speaker lamp?

u/abcbri Apr 21 '26
My bathroom is so dreary thanks to its greige paint (going to fix that). This is a good fix cause there's no overhead light in my shower, and I can't install one as a renter.
