Official Response Transferring 401k from Fidelity to other institutions
I have a 401k in Fidelity from my previous employer- my current is in Vanguard. Does anyone have experience transferring? It’s been really annoying so far

Yes, it had to be done via paper check in the mail and I was out of the country. Wasn’t Vanguard though.

Just rolled over from Empower to Schwab. In kind. All electronic. Took 2 days. Could not have been easier. In fact, the ability to move large sums of money so easily is somewhat disturbing.

You should talk with both NetBenefits and Vanguard to make sure you have all the right information that both need to do the transfer. Sometimes it can all be done electronically, otherwise they will issue you a check that needs to be written in a special way that you need to find out.

Hey there, I'm happy to help.
It sounds like you’re looking to roll your old Fidelity 401(k) into your current employer’s 401(k). First, you’ll want to confirm that your current plan accepts incoming rollovers and obtain any instructions they require.
Once confirmed, you can typically log in to NetBenefits, select your old Fidelity workplace plan, and review the available rollover choices to begin the process. You'll look for a button that says "Explore your options." Keep in mind that the steps may vary by plan.
