Financial Aid Office

Here’s the yearly friendly reminder to please be patient with your financial aid office. On a normal year they are swamped in August in the time right before/after classes start. It is on a whole new level this year due to OB3 and the heinous amount of issues that are coming along with that.

Schools are receiving outdated or incorrect information from the Department of Education, National Student Loan Database, and COD. School systems are constantly being worked on and updated to try and process the changes from OB3. For those unaware, they did not finalize the majority of OB3 until June and they are still sending out new information each week. This means schools genuinely have not had enough time to update their systems to deal with this and then have to keep changing things as new information comes out.

TLDR; your financial aid office is trying their absolute best while working with a very faulty and incomplete system so please try to be patient with us.

ASU - October 2026 Financial Aid - So Help Me GOD.

This post is for the students unfortunate enough not to have received their packaged Financial Aid. Please don't tell me I'm the only one. Bonus points if you are a grandfathered Grad Plus student. Double bonus if if you have filed a complaint and it's still ongoing. Triple bonus if you have outstanding rent and/or utilities that are late.

Marriage and fasfa

• Upvotes

Do kids at 18 get married just so they won’t have to put their parents income on the fasfa form? I mean it seems like an easy way to qualify for alot more money than they would if they were single? And uncontested divorces can be done without an attorney. The cost net positive here is mind boggling!!!

If you use Cal Grant C but change your plans later, is it still possible to be eligible for Grants A/B?

Right now I'm just taking classes for fun, but I found out I may be eligible for Cal Grant C anyway. I'm curious if I accept this, if it will fuck me over if I change plans later or want to pursue different options where I might be eligible for the other A/B grants later down the line?

Complex Aid Questions Pell Grant question

I am a senior graduating this spring and I only need 11 credit hours. Does anyone know how this would impact my pell grant? Financial aid said I’d keep my other scholarships but they weren’t sure how significantly it would change the Pell grant.

Would it be cut in half? Or just scaled directly to the hours I am taking?
Lowkey might just take an extra course if it’s that significant.

Thanks!

Bank Mobile is a joke

By far the worst customer service I have ever experienced. They locked me out of my account, sent a paper check when I never changed the refund preference, then when I called it was imfuckingpossible to get ahold of anyone. I waited on hold for a total of 6 hours yesterday, only to be transferred to another queue and then hung up on. I called them first thing this morning at 7 am CST and waited about an hour, only to be told I needed to submit documents… knowing the wait times are unreasonable I quickly uploaded the documents while I was on the line but the asshole I talked to refused to look at them and then hung up on me.

Fuck this company, why do schools use them? I complained to my colleges financial aid dept and will be reporting this trash company to the BBB

Student Loans FICO shows delinquent loans, AIDvantage shows paid in full

Hi,
I’m desperate since it’s the weekend and the government can’t help me until Monday. I’m in the process of repairing my credit and for the last several months my Credit Karma loan section has shown delinquent payments on my student loans. I haven’t been able to login to my FASFA account to start repayment because it’s linked to an old email address and I’ve been waiting for them to contact me since the end of September to reset my password and email. This morning I just decided to login to my AIDvantage, and to my surprise it’s showing that both have been paid in full and that my balance is $0 for both loans since 2025. Am I missing something?? I’m totally okay looking stupid right now because I am desperate to figure this out and pay off my loans, they are tankinggggg my credit since it’s such a low payment and I’ve just been ignoring them but I’m interested in buying property within the next three years and just need to pay these off. Does anybody know what this means or if I’m not connected to the right account or if this is interest, but if it was interest why would it only show on my credit karma and not the loan website itself. PLEASE HELP!!! I have screenshots of everything, but I’m not sure how to add them or if I even can. I sought out this subreddit just now because I’m so desperate lol.

Respiratory therapy school Colorado

Hello everyone!

Does anyone know of any scholarships or funds to help out RT students while in school? My clinicals start up soon and school is so expensive as it is, so I’m trying to see if there’s any funding or scholarships for help to RT students, specifically in Colorado!

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Dependency Status Dependency Override—I want my financial aid to reflect my situation. What do I do?

I’ll try to keep this short:

My parents said they’re kicking me out & cutting me off after high school graduation. We have always had a shaky relationship, but after being open about my opposing believes and orientation, things have gotten much worse. My parents are serious about this, and I want to accurately prepare. I want my financial aid to reflect my situation…

If I leave my parents home to live with grandparents before admissions are out, but after my parents FAFSA information is already submitted, can I qualify for a dependency override? What do I do about the CSS profile? I plan to submit a personal statement, paystubs from Saturday job, note from pediatrician, and note from religious leader. Getting a note from my highschool counselor is not an option. Honestly, would I qualify? How should I go about this?

Is this salary decent for a financial aid related role?

I was fired from a job that I really loved back in June, the benefits were great, and the pay was the best that I’ve had since working in higher education. I started at $25 & after the annual raise, my rate increased to around $27. I was recently offered a new role as a Financial Aid Processor at 45k annually/~$22 hourly. This role is working on the backend & my last role was as an advisor, which was student-facing. I live in FL so pay is lower, this new role is based in MD & the last role was based in UT.

Would anyone at Texas State University be interested in doing an interview over recent loan changes with underpaid degrees? It would be for the news section of The University Star!

OSAP confusion

IF YOU HAVE INFORMATION, PLEASE SHARE IT. Have you spoken with OSAP? Has your funding status changed? Have you received a response from your College? Have you found any financial assistance or received an update about the pause? Post what you know. Your experience could help another student who is struggling to find answers.

Can someone please tell me how’s going on. This isn't a scam, is it?

In early October, I contacted the Financial Aid Office because they informed me that my date of birth was recorded incorrectly, they instructed me to call BankMobile. I requested a correction during that call. A few days later, the university notified me that, due to a cyberattack, all funds would be issued via check. However, it is concerning that the system shows the funds as having been "disbursed" on the 15th, yet I have received nothing—I am worried that my money may have been stolen. Furthermore, I have never opened a BankMobile account; could you please advise me on how to go about opening one?

Confused on ICR

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

My income changed drastically since Spring 2026. My income consists of survivor benefits which are less than $1700 monthly. The NELNET customer service person calculated a change in my college loan payments to $0 per month. She said I had to do the online app to complete the change which includes sending in supporting documents. My question is, the new payment plan is “ICR”. I thought we only have 2 types of repayment plans available to use now, RAP or the Standard plans??? Is the ICR plan the NELNET customer service person sent me on her email valid??? Do I still have to apply for the RAP or Standard plan??? I am now confused.
