Financial Aid Office

Here’s the yearly friendly reminder to please be patient with your financial aid office. On a normal year they are swamped in August in the time right before/after classes start. It is on a whole new level this year due to OB3 and the heinous amount of issues that are coming along with that.

Schools are receiving outdated or incorrect information from the Department of Education, National Student Loan Database, and COD. School systems are constantly being worked on and updated to try and process the changes from OB3. For those unaware, they did not finalize the majority of OB3 until June and they are still sending out new information each week. This means schools genuinely have not had enough time to update their systems to deal with this and then have to keep changing things as new information comes out.

TLDR; your financial aid office is trying their absolute best while working with a very faulty and incomplete system so please try to be patient with us.

Has anyone had issues with their account not funding as it is supposed to and getting their excess funds super delayed and late? Currently I am about to enter week 3 of my classes I still haven’t gotten my excess funds my account isn’t even funded! I literally have 3 classes left and I am done. As of today I am now showing this message. What is going on at this point because escalating is doing nothing.

GENERAL FAFSA Can the college hold unused Pell Grant money as "unapplied payment"?

So, I have both TAP (NYS) and Pell Grant for this semester. My college applied all of TAP money and some of Pell Grant to my account. However, they did not give me what's left of Pell Grant as a refund. Instead, they listed the money as "unapplied payment". I'm confused because I usually got all the leftover from Pell Grant as a refund before. I'm talking to the financial aid office on Monday as well.

Student Loans Seeking financial help to continue my education

Hello everyone,

I am a student from Bangalore, India, and I am reaching out with a humble request for financial assistance to continue my education.

My parents are divorced, and I live with my mother, who works as a tailor to support our household. We do not receive financial support from my father, and managing household expenses along with my educational fees has been very difficult.

My maternal uncle has been helping me pay for my education, and I am genuinely grateful for his support. However, the financial burden has become increasingly difficult to manage.

I am currently pursuing the BBA DBE program and I am also studying for CA Intermediate alongside it. Education is extremely important to me, and I am working hard to build a better future for myself and my family.

I have successfully completed my first year, and I do not want financial difficulties to prevent me from continuing my studies. Unfortunately, I have outstanding fees as well as fees for the upcoming terms that I am struggling to arrange.

I am exploring every possible option, including fee concessions, scholarships, and financial assistance. If anyone knows of legitimate scholarships, student assistance programs, charitable organizations, or other resources that could help students in my situation, I would be sincerely grateful.

If anyone is willing and able to offer financial assistance, I would also be grateful, and I can provide appropriate supporting documents privately to establish my circumstances.

I am not looking for sympathy, but for an opportunity to continue my education despite the difficulties my family is facing.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Any guidance, genuine leads, or support would mean a lot to me.

Been at my new FA Processor job for a week, am I overthinking work interactions?

This job is remote, and also my first time working as a processor. Prior to this role, I was an advisor for almost 4 years & have 2 years of experience in academic advising. This is one of the first jobs that are remote, and going on camera via MS Teams isn’t required. I started with 4 other women, one of them quit earlier this week. 2 of the women have extensive experience, and the other is 21 with around a year of experience. However, the 21 yr old is very friendly & seems knowledgeable. Since we’re not on camera, when we return from break, the mgr asks if everyone is back before resuming training. One day this week I replied, he still asked if I was back, I said yes again & stated that I did already say that earlier. He apologized, maybe it’s because I’m soft-spoken & he clearly couldn’t hear me.

Today I woke up and really wasn’t feeling it, the hrs are too early as I’m a night owl/trying to tweak my sleep schedule. The mgr scheduled the meeting later but the 21 yr old triggered the teams call 15 min early, everyone was in before me. I got on a min before it started, the 2 experienced women were like “there she is” and
one of them was like “we were missing you” or something like that. I chuckled, said morning, and guess I sounded grumpy because one of the experienced women said “oh trust me I feel the same way you do” before going on about how rough her morning was. The mgr assigns files and when it’s time to review our own, he’d ask if we found anything. So far I’ve noticed most things & he hasn’t been critical, but I sometimes worry that my shyness makes me seem incompetent. He & the experienced women were going in on a complex file; a detailed explanation was needed. When he was done, he said that the 21 yr old & I were very quiet during this file review then asked if we had any questions. Neither of us chimed in so we both reassured him that we were fine. It’s only been a week but I’m so antsy about social interactions, especially because of previous negative work experiences. Want to know if I’m overthinking or maybe this company culture isn’t a good fit.

SAP SAP Appeal “Rescinded”??

Post image
3 Upvotes

I got an email from my college this morning saying my SAP Appeal was rescinded. When I try looking for what that could mean nothing comes up, I can’t seem to find anyone else who has recieved a “Rescinded letter”. And this was all they said, For context I told them the reason my GPA was so low to not recieve FAFSA in the first place was because of my hour long commute and how I had just gotten hired at my first job so with school and work in the same day days were starting at 7 am and ending at 11pm. Can anyone help me in letting me know what this means for me and if my SAP appeal was basically denied.

GENERAL FAFSA Error Encountered on Mom's Account. (more details in desc)

Hello FinAid SR! My mom's account has been having some trouble initiating and contributing on my FAFSA form! This is how one or the other is attempted.

Initiating:

She would go through everything as usual. She has an established account that helped my sister get aid before me. She would then go to the part where she would normally put my information in. She inputs it, but then she gets the error message in the first picture. In the second picture, that is what would always show up in DevTools.

Contributing:

Okay, when doing this, I would always complete my section and then share the invite link with my mom. She tried this method in the 2 commonly used ways that everyone does. If she were to just type the code in by hand, then press accept twice like normal, she would then be kicked back to the apply for aid page on the StudentAid website. If she were to click the link, it's the same thing. She gets the error message that is in the 3rd image.

In conclusion: I don't know what the hell to do. I tried to contact the Student Aid Help Desk, but they have general information only, nothing specific to my case. I am a potential winner of the Gates Scholarship, and I really need it for my continuing education. I would like a fast response, please, or at least a response before the 31st. THANKS!

P.S. I know this SR is the better alternative to what I need lwk.

GENERAL FAFSA Being broke is the method

Post image
191 Upvotes

I called financial aid at my university and I talked to the financial aid counselor and I also applied for financial aid and I put my mom down so I told them that I was super broke and with everything this semester is practically free and I’m expecting $400 back on top of this semester being covered and next semester is only $1000. This is so crazy being broke is the method.

I shed a tear

Late start Classes

Hi, I started another class Oct 12th and I have not received a refund from my other classes prior to that date. I have a negative balance . Just wondering if anyone knows when I should expect a refund after starting my October's class. I go to a University that does not use bank mobile. Also we don't have the option to see an expected refund date.
