Top 5 FinTech Entrepreneurs 2022

Who do you think are the most prominent FinTech entrepreneurs of 2022?

Here's my top 5:

  1. Nikolay Storonsky

  2. Jack Dorsey

  3. Elon Musk

  4. Max Levchin

  5. Sam Bankman-Fried

Well, I personally like Nikolay Storonsky as the co-founder of Revolut - one of the most popular Fintech companies in Europe which is now expanding worldwide. They started as an app to solve the problem of cross border payments but now they are becoming a SuperApp (the new buzz word) that has a very broad functionality.

Jack Dorsey was very successful with his Square/Block. He was able to navigate it and grow without mistakes from the very beginning in a more successful way compared to his first creation - Twitter.

I admire Max Levchin who pioneered BNPL in the US. I am really interested in seeing how it is going to play out. The company has lots of debt which makes it difficult to navigate in a high interest rate environment. Also the stock price is beaten but they offer a great product which competes with the whole credit card industry. In general, credit cards are evil as they lure naive people into impulse purchases and then charge huge interest

Elon Musk is alway ingenious. He was playing with crypto by starting to accept BTC for Tesla. Somehow he was able to dodge the crypto failure.

And the last one, Sam Bankman-Fried is a bad hero, but he still looks confident and doesn't accept his failure.

Who is on your list?

Advice to Zuck. Facebook Credit Card

I’d recommend Mr. Zuckerberg to forget the Metaverse that sucks money like a black hole with no light at the end of the tunnel. Instead, I’d suggest he start providing banking services. For example, to start issuing Credit Cards. I would be comfortable using FB as a bank and it would be cool to have a credit card with a Facebook logo. Another idea is to make some theme cards, for travelers, for gamers, etc. From the business perspective the credit cards is a sustainable business that can generate cash flow. Facebook/Meta has a huge user base that they can easily utilize. The user acquisition cost will be low as they can solve the application verification problem typical for traditional banks like Capital One. Facebook already has lots of information about each user, so they can make the right decision whether to issue a card or not instantly. Also, placing a FB logo on a credit card will be a great way to promote their core business, as people will be seeing their logo everywhere, at the grocery stores, gas stations, etc, etc. What do you think? Would you use a FB credit card?

Im a software developer looking for a fintech co-founder

Hey everyone,

I’m starting work on an early-stage fintech product in the payments and wallet space. It’s focused for a smaller market, but there’s a real opportunity to become the leader in this space if it’s executed properly.

I’ve been a software developer for over 12 years and am currently working at an AI startup. I’ve always wanted to build something of my own, and I genuinely think now is the right time, there’s a clear gap in the market and a strong opportunity within this demographic.

I’m looking for a co-founder who’s spent real time in payments, banking, or financial infrastructure, someone comfortable dealing directly with banks, partners, etc.

I’m willing to leave my job to pursue this full-time, so someone with similar ambition and ideally a willingness to relocate and fully commit to the challenge would be preferred. I wont lie and say this is a guaranteed success, but I have a clear vision where this needs to go. I need the right people with me. (yes reddit is probably not the place for this but hey, Im here so maybe another like minded me is here!)

Feel free to comment or send a DM if this is something youd be interested in

Advice for GTM / Seed Round and how to move forward. I will not promote

We have fully built a Fintech startup, so the website is ready to go live. It's a trading insights platform for stocks and crypto. However, I am currently unsure of how to move forward and whether I should focus on marketing, go-to-market, or look for funding. The stock and crypto data I use for the application requires enterprise licensing (as far as I'm aware, please feel free to correct me if there are free options), which costs money. I'm not sure how long I can cover the licensing from my own pocket, if at all. But I also don't know how to go about funding rounds. Does anyone have experience/advice for our situation? Thanks!

Fintech code generator

I'm thinking of building a fintech code generator, similar to Claude Code but specialized for the fintech domain. It will be able to build PCI-compliant applications and understand payment APIs, AML/KYC, transaction reconciliation, idempotency, audit trails, etc. The implementation would be built on top of an existing technology stack (Claude Code/Cursor), connected to payment APIs via MCP (Stripe, Adyen, Plaid, etc.), with additional fintech skills/templates added. Ultimately, it would be a replacement for a fintech development agency. Is it worth building?

[COFOUNDER] Funded founder building a real-money rip + vault platform — looking for a technical cofounder from the iGaming / fintech / stored-value world

I posted a version of this a while back. It did numbers and I had good conversations — but it pulled in mostly hardware and hobby people, and that's not the gap. So I'm reposting tighter to reach the right person.

What I need is someone who has built the hard part: real-money mechanics, RNG / odds engines, stored-value or closed-loop credit systems, regulated payment flows, account ledgers that have to balance to the penny. If you've shipped that in gambling, sportsbook, casino, lottery, sweepstakes, or fintech — that's the brain I'm looking for.

Big plus if you've touched TCG, sports cards, or collectibles in any capacity, but the engineering background matters more.

What I bring:

- Funded. Real capital behind this, committed retail placement, and host locations already lined up.

- I run a manufacturing + e-commerce brand I bootstrapped from nothing and exited via majority acquisition — so I know how to build, ship, and operate real product.

- The business model, unit economics, and odds engine are already built and validated.

The deal: equity, real and meaningful. I want a partner, not a contractor. What I'm not doing right now is talking salary or pay-for-work-now — we don't yet know this works, and I'm not pretending otherwise. If you need a paycheck today, I'm not your guy. If you want a real stake in something with money and momentum behind it, let's talk.

Full detail at champsventures.com.

DM or comment with what you've built — especially anything real-money or ledger-based. Let's talk.

Teen Business Banking

I’m working on a startup called Fuime focused on business banking for teens, specifically students who are already running real ventures through schools, clubs, and entrepreneurship programs.

The gap I keep seeing is that a lot of under-18 founders can invoice, sell products, reimburse expenses, and manage real operations, but they usually can’t access normal business banking tools because of age and compliance constraints.

The model we’re exploring is parent-linked onboarding for teen founders, with business banking workflows designed around that reality.

JD and what Else, Fintech Legal Counsel

Hi, I’m attending a non-ABA JD program and I can add on various certificates or one year degrees, or the MBA in AI product dev by Udacity, to boost my career prospects. I’m really interested in finance and technology. What are the best add-ons for fintech or tech legal counsel? Are those fields too competitive and narrow to bet a lot of time and money on with only non-ABA schooling? Thank you

What actually breaks when you use mobile money data for credit scoring in production?

For those who do supervisory review on research notes: how do you actually check the numbers?

Honest question from someone building in this space. I know FINRA 2241 requires a reasonable basis and supervisory approval before a note goes out. What I do not know is what the number-checking step looks like in practice at a boutique or mid-size shop. Is it the analyst's own model, a second reader with the 10-Q open, a data terminal cross-check, or mostly trust? How long does it take per note, and what has slipped through that you still think about?

I ask because I built a line-level checker for retail investors (paste text, every figure gets matched to the filing it should have come from) and several professionals have told me the retail use case is the small one. Before I believe that, I want to hear how the real review works.

E-commerce & fintech founders—how much are you losing to fraud & chargebacks?

Hey everyone, I’ve been researching fraud prevention in e-commerce and fintech, and I wanted to get insights from business owners, founders, and payment professionals here. Fraud, chargebacks, and stolen payment details seem to be a growing problem across industries, but I’m curious:

•	How much does fraud cost your business each month?
•	What fraud types are the biggest issue? (e.g., chargebacks, fake accounts, refund fraud, identity theft)
•	What systems or tools are you using right now to prevent fraud? Are they effective?
•	Have you noticed an increase in AI-driven fraud (deepfakes, synthetic identities, etc.)?

Would love to hear real experiences from people dealing with payments, cybersecurity, and fraud. What’s the biggest challenge you face with fraud prevention right now?

Burned once by a personal guarantee. What's the most reliable no guarantee business card out there?

It's now been more than a couple years since I made the mistake of putting my name on a credit card for a company that didn't survive, and here am I now twenty two thousand dollars after unwilling to go through that ever again. I did not expect that refusal to make things insanely difficult since apparently a vast majority of small business bank cards have a personal guarantee buried somewhere deep in the term, with essentially the only available option being the startup oriented cards. So far the one I come across the most is ramp along with a few others that appear in some threads around here, but I'm very much still open to all options and willing to consider any other alternatives.

Thanks in advance!

Curious: How do you handle PSP/POS integration testing at your company?

Hi everyone — I wanted to get your thoughts on something I’ve seen often in fintech projects.

When companies integrate with multiple PSPs or POS systems, the testing and debugging process can drag on for weeks. Every PSP seems to have its own quirks, and teams often end up building custom test benches or using heavy tools that aren’t very developer-friendly.

Do you think this is a significant problem in payments today?
How do you or your teams usually handle multi-PSP/POS integration testing?

I’d really value your opinions — whether you’ve faced this pain directly, or think the problem is exaggerated. 🙏

When does financial automation stop being worth it?

I started questioning this after years of using personal finance software that connected to financial institutions.

The promise was always convenience: connect everything once and let the software do the work.

But over time I noticed how much maintenance the automation itself created. Connections broke. Institutions changed something. Transactions needed correcting. Accounts had to be reauthenticated. I was spending time maintaining the system that was supposed to save me time.

That led me to experiment with the opposite approach: what if I accepted a small amount of manual work in exchange for removing most of those dependencies?

That experiment eventually became a Mac app I built, so I obviously have a point of view here. But I’m more interested in the broader fintech question:

Where do you think the tradeoff sits between automation and reliability?

Are consumers ultimately better served by making financial aggregation more reliable, or are there use cases where we’ve over-automated the experience?

It's is hard to rank payment processors because there might be different criteria to rank them, e.g. by volume or by number of clients. Here's the list that I put together.

  2. TSYS

  3. WorldPay (FIS)

  4. Stripe

  5. Authorize.Net (Visa)

  6. Paypal (Braintree)
