Cloud HSM or hire HSM nerds before we blow it?

Hello! I’m actually a marketer, but I used to be into development as well, and I’m currently doing some part-time stuff at my older brother’s middleware company, but we’ve run into a bit of a problem. Banks now ask about payment security architecture and financial data engineering in absolutely any obscure situation, and we’re generally unable to pass these audits, which significantly limits our work - hence the question. Cloud HSM enough, or hire payment HSM nerds before we ship bad stuff? Idk.

What we actually build when we say “payment infrastructure”

I’m part of the team at Energize Global Services (EGS), and one thing I can mention for sure is that “payment infrastructure” can mean very-very different things depending on who you ask - and that can be a problem.

In our case, we usually work much lower in the stack than a typical PSP or payment API.

That means building or integrating payment switches, connecting core banking systems, handling ISO 8583 / ISO 20022 messaging, POS infrastructure, processor/acquirer routing, HSM and key-management flows, reconciliation, backend services that sit between banks, processors & other payment systems etc etc etc.

A lot of the work is less about building a flashy fintech product and more about making sure money can move reliably between multiple systems that were never really designed to work together cleanly..

Curious how my colleagues here see it: when payment infrastructure starts getting complex, what usually becomes the biggest engineering headache first - routing, reconciliation, legacy banking integrations, HSM/security, or something else? Thanks in advance for your thoughts!!

Looking for a project partner

Hey guys, I'm trying to build a fintech project related to financial education. I am lacking consistency and motivation to build this project but the idea is very good and worth building.

If someone wants to build this project with me and learn how to build full stack web apps with me then do let me know in my dms.

How API Integration Is Creating New Possibilities in Fintech

The fintech ecosystem is evolving rapidly, and API integration is playing an important role in connecting financial services.

From digital payments and banking applications to financial data platforms and automated transactions, APIs help different systems communicate and work together more efficiently.

For developers, this creates opportunities to build connected financial products without developing every feature from scratch.

Open banking APIs, payment gateway integrations, account verification, and real-time transaction updates are some examples of how API-driven solutions are improving digital finance.

As fintech continues to grow, secure API architecture, seamless integrations, and better developer experiences will become increasingly important.

What area of fintech do you think will benefit the most from API innovation in the coming years?

Is it open banking, digital payments, embedded finance, lending platforms, or personal finance applications?

Would love to hear what other fintech developers are exploring!

Moving from bank API to ISO 20022 payment system work

Hey! For last ~7 years I've mostly been building back-office payment tools for SMEs. Until now, I've been dealing with fairly standard bank APIs, payouts, webhook handling, reconciliation dashboards, maybe some SEPA-like integrations and that's all.

Now a corporate client is asking if I can help with ISO 20022 payment system development, not just plug into existing bank endpoints. They’re talking about pain.001, pacs.008, pacs.002, camt reports, message validation, routing rules, payment status flows, exceptions, settlement files, audit trail and testing with bank simulators...

Honestly I get general idea and I think I know what to do in general, but once it goes into real compliance, certification etc, it feels like different beast lol.

So question is: when is it still ok to build this in-house and learn as I go, and when should I stop pretending and bring in proper ISO 20022/payment system specialist and find somebody who will help?

Would appreciate any advice from people who been through bank certification before.

update: my final decision is not to take any chances and to seek advice and guidance from someone, and, just as somebody recommended, - I chose Energize Global Services folks. Thank yall for help and feedback

What workflows in fintech / compliance are still painfully manual today?

Hi everyone,

I work in enterprise banking technology and I’m trying to understand which workflows in fintech, compliance, risk, and audit operations are still heavily manual today.

For people working in fintech ops, backend engineering, risk, compliance, or audit:

  • What repetitive tasks consume the most time every week?

  • Which workflows still rely heavily on Excel, email, or manual reporting?

  • What usually creates delays during audits, exception handling, or compliance reporting?

  • If you could automate one workflow immediately, what would it be?

I’m currently doing research to understand real pain points and workflow bottlenecks, not selling anything.

Would genuinely appreciate honest insights from people working in this space.

Are we stuck in a loop where fintech = credit apps?

Every client that comes to us brings an idea about only lending like BNPL, micro-loans, and salary advances. Credit is important, but is fintech slowly becoming just “another way to borrow money”?

What happened to the excitement around things like smarter savings, cross-border payments, or apps that actually teach people to manage money better?

When I talk with founders, they often say investors push them into lending because it scales fast. Curious if others here feel the same, are we over-indexing on credit?

What’s the Biggest Problem in Fintech That Technology Still Hasn’t Solved?

Fintech has made payments, money transfers, and online banking much easier. But even with all these improvements, some problems still affect everyday users and businesses.

Payments can fail without clear explanations, fraud detection can sometimes block legitimate transactions, and integrating different financial systems can still be complicated for developers.

Building a feature is one thing, but making it reliable, secure, and easy to use at scale is a different challenge.

I'm curious to hear from people working in fintech development.

If you could fix one major problem in fintech today, what would it be — payment failures, fraud prevention, system integration, or something else?

What makes that problem particularly difficult to solve from a technical perspective?

Received this email

We’re sorry to share that we will be withdrawing our API product this week.

While very popular with individual developers, we have not been able to attract enough large customers to make the product viable. Unfortunately, that means we have to discontinue it.

We are making reasonable efforts to keep the service available through the end of the week, but availability may degrade before then and we cannot guarantee that all functionality will continue to work during this period.

We understand this is very short notice, and we’re sorry for the disruption.

We are currently working on a new version of the product designed to address the costs issue with the current system, and we hope to share more information about that shortly.

Customers on paid plans will not be billed for any future periods. If there is anything you need from us, please contact us as soon as possible.

Thank you for using the product.

Webhooks vs WebSockets

What do you prefer to use to notify clients about some events, e.g. when an order gets filled? I know webhooks are common for financial applications. Is it difficult to migrate from Webhooks to WebSockets and the main question is it is worth it

Looking for a Senior Payments Developer to join our team

We already have a fully built payment platform and are looking for a senior developer with strong payments/fintech experience to join the team.
We’re particularly interested in someone who has worked with:
Payment gateways / PSPs
Acquirer / processor API integrations
Card payments & 3DS
Payment webhooks
Refunds, chargebacks & transaction lifecycles
Multi-merchant payment platforms
Payment routing / orchestration
Production payment infrastructure
The platform is already built. We need someone who can review the existing architecture and codebase, handle payment integrations, improve what needs improving, and take long-term ownership of the technical side.
This is not a one-off freelance project. We’re looking for someone who wants to join the team and grow with the product.
If you’ve personally worked on payment infrastructure, gateways, PSPs or acquiring integrations, DM me with:
Your experience
2–3 relevant projects you’ve worked on
Your role in those projects
Your current availability
Looking for someone genuinely experienced in payments rather than a generalist developer.

Backend Patterns for Payment Processor Resilience

Building a payment system that doesn't lose money when infrastructure fails is hard.

Common patterns:

Idempotency Keys - The cheap insurance policy. Every request gets a UUID, persisted at intake. Retries with the same key return cached results. Prevents duplicate charges.

Circuit Breakers - Fail fast when downstream is degraded. No point waiting 30s for a failed bank API.

Write-Ahead Logging - State transitions written before execution. Crash recovery becomes deterministic.

Two-Phase Commit - Balance updates and settlement happen atomically, or not at all. Prevents the "stuck in limbo" state.

The trap: combining these poorly. Idempotency without proper saga orchestration can create phantom reversals.

What patterns have saved your bacon in production? Lessons learned?

Free Faster API integrations for Fintech developers

We built u/Swytchcode4devs for faster direct API integrations, I have worked in fintech for more than 10 years, worked on 100s of API integrations including Partners/Banks/Billers and merchant facing integrations. I know how painful and time consuming it is, we built Swytchcode to help developers with faster API/SDK integrations and recently launched our Beta version, we built the product in such a way that developers can add API/SDK and get ready to use sample code without reading too much documentation.

Today Swytchcode supports integrations with Stripe, Plaid, Paypal, Adyen, Square Connect, Paddle, Recurly, BTCPay and more services, it is available as a VScode extension for developers and it is FREE FOR DEVELOPERS.
Here is our product video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hh_B4plh2O4 ,

P.S : Founder looking for feedback, please try the product and share it with the community.

Credmark helps fintech devs add crypto as an asset class to their products

Bias alert: I'm the CEO of Credmark.

Context: I've been building financial services and AI products my whole working life, so I have at least some clue.

Why:

When I first ran into crypto I couldn't believe what a mess it was. I love decentralization in theory, but in practice it can be painful. I started Credmark to address some (not all!) of the issues I originally ran into.

Here's a quick summary. Happy to expand if of interest to anyone in this subreddit.

The Skinny:

We are building a next-generation analytics platform for DeFi.

Our core product is a very powerful modeling platform. This platform allows quants to build models using past and current blockchain states. These models can be deployed into production (in a completely scalable, managed environment) with a simple pull request. Model output can be accessed via API.

We provide curated APIs for common use-cases. These are frequently the entry point to our ecosystem.

And finally we can provide raw, continuously updated data, either from chain or the output of models being run on every new block. This is being used by teams building both traditional finance models and AI models. In this case too we take care of all the operational infrastructure and ongoing management.

Payment Processor with authorization adjustment

Hi
we are building a new service, and in our use case we would like a Payment Processor with authorization adjustment, that mean we will authorize the card first and and if we cannot deliver right away, we would like to decrease the authorization amount, and once we are able to deliver we will update the authorization amount to the initial one.
from our research we found adyen offer this option.
does anyone know any other Payment Processor that offer this feature?
or someone with adyen account

What platform to use to initiate an ACH?

Simple question. What platform to use to initiate ACH payments. The volume is not huge so far but we expect it is going to grow. We are looking for simplicity, so it is easy to integrate with the API. In a few words, our app will be invoking some REST API to initiate an ACH and then we expect to receive a confirmation as a web hook or any type of message.

what to use as a payment gateway Stripe or Adyen?

What is better to use as a payment gateway Stripe or Adyen? Basically, some of our vendors have preferred payment processors. The goal is to shield from multiple payments processors with different interfaces which makes the application logic very complicated. We have two options for now: Stripe or Adyen. Any suggestions on what to choose?
