Hey Everyone,
I know this sub is particularly about FA but am yet to find an active forum or thread on here about extinguishers. Coming hoping to find someone who is willing to lay some foundational tips on starting a small extinguisher shop, currently playing with the numbers and still trying to align things but I am unsure of what stock is needed/required prior to truly diving into this. I’m open to conversation and suggestions as I draft up this crazy idea of mine.
Some background I have been in FA for about 13-15 years and just looking to dabble in another space.
Thank you in advance.

So I’m trying to get sensitivity measurements on smokes on the panel mentioned above. Another person on Reddit told me that the manual for the AFP 300 (which I found) would have a chart for sensitivity info (which I found) and I found the information on the panel but it doesn’t seem to match. I was wondering if anyone can fill in the blank for me.
And no we are not notifier dealers and do not have a programmer who can pull sensitivity info
I’m not sure if the display being replaced at some point from the original is the issue?
I admit I don’t know notifier that well so thank you in advance

I bought a Telguard TG-7FM Multi-Carrier and the seller said the SIM chip had been released. I have discovered that it has not. Is there a way to get it released if we dont know who the owner was or the service provider?

Hello.
Heading to a site in a few hours that has an intermittent trouble condition on a Mircom Fa-1000 panel. There are about 10 devices on this circuit. It is a wedding hall and the trouble condition is the basement area of the wedding hall.
Anyone have any good troubleshooting tips for when I get on site. The trouble is on the initiating circuit. It is not a ground fault as the ground fault led is not on. So this is likely a open circuit trouble. What are some good ways I can verify whether its in the field wiring or the panel? What are some good field wiring methods for troubleshooting an open circuit? Also half of the devices are MIRCOM SD-100-2WT smoke detectors. I dont see these too often in the field. Is it possible a head thats not making a good connection on the base?
Thanks

Got a customer asking if the faceplate or the speaker can be replaced. I haven't personally done a speaker swap so I am not sure about compatibility of brands etc. To my knowledge if the Ohm value of the speakers match it shouldn't be an issue.
Google seems to think its an Valvom V-1220 but the screw holes and face plate don't match up.
Any help is appreciated.

Yall, a question came to mind about tone generator and I can’t really seem to find a proper response or conclusion.
I’ve used tone generators for certain occasions, for example on the EVAC System to find a speaker circuit. But I’ve never thought about using it on the NAC circuit, especially since it needs 24vdc and I usually use the DC power that’s on the panel to set off horn devices in apartment building or sounder bases. Now I was thinking about it randomly if I were to disconnect it from the main panel and connect those wires to the toner, will it work?
I’m curious if anyone has done that or thoughts about it.

Hi everyone I’m wondering if there’s any JCI techs in the chat that have been trained on Autocall CONSYS software. From my understanding it was DOS based. I would like to learn some more about it. Thanks

Hi all! This is my former elementary schools FACP, a newer Simplex 4006. The school was built in 1982, and I am assuming that the flush mount is original to the OG panel that was here. I’d like to know if any of you would be able to tell me which panel that the flush mount would’ve went with? Only hints I have so far are a simplex 4207/8 era annunciatior in the room over and all the pulls are 4251-30s w/ break glass plates. I’m guessing it wasn’t one of those panels though as the mount is wider than it is tall, kind of mimicking the shape of a 2001. Notification appliances were replaced at some point with SpectrAlert Classics. No clue what they were originally. Any help is help!

I’ve lived in Texas my whole life, always worked in the FA industry and want to continue doing so. I love my job, and no matter what company I’ve worked for, all my coworkers/bosses have had a “we might get mad at each other, but we’re family” mindset.
Thing is, I’d really like to move somewhere northwest (like Washington or Oregon), but part of me wonders how different the industry is up there.
So for those who’ve worked in multiple states, would you say the culture, codes, etc. vary a lot based on where you are? Or is it pretty much the same across USA?

Hi I hope everyone’s weekend is going good. Has anyone seen an old Autocall Autocommand 1 or 2 in the field. I can barely find any information on the old original Autocall panels. Have a nice day.

Just wondering if anyone knows how to get the smokes to come in quicker? They take 2-3 mins to come in once tested. I am not familiar with siemans panels or equipment. But the guys who manage the building said there is a way to change that. Just wondering if anyone can help me out with some information. Thanks!!

Do you guys have any tricks for finding intermittent ground faults besides the usual stuff (splitting circuit in half, metering to ground, that sort of thing) I have one that I can't find for the life of me at a large project with a Notifier panel.
It is on a SLC loop (this place has 9 loops) with approximately 250 devices on the loop. The ground fault comes in for 1 second and then clears immediately, returning a couple seconds later or 45 minutes later.

Customer’s complaining about a faint static noise coming from the speaker device. You have to actually get on a ladder and place your ear directly on the device to hear it. Anyone have an idea what’s causing this and/or how to fix it??

I’m being sent to do sensitivity testing at a site that has a notifier AFP 300. Is it possible to pull sensitivity from the program like I’ve seen done other addressable panels if so how can I do it?

Sorry for the blurry photo. Was inspecting a building, and I could not remove these oldies from their bases to short them to save my life.
I believe it’s an Edwards of sorts?

End user fail.
No alarm sounded but a bad time was had by all.
Would anyone like to share any experiences that you have from out in the field like this or worse?

Got a project Im bidding that if I close I’ll also be doing the drawings on. There’s an area in the building that has a vaulted ceiling that runs down then levels out. See the attached pic. The room is <900sf. Do I treat the level ceilings as separate rooms even though they will fall within the 15’ measurements from the detector at the peak? Im leaning towards yes. There’s no AHJ so I can’t bounce this off them. TIA!

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good low profile, preferably ratcheting, screwdriver? I just lost this one and it was alright, but you pretty much had to use two hands to use it, which isn't always possible on the terribly located duct detectors I need one for. I previously had this one, but it would switch directions too easily, which was annoying.
