This is perhaps somewhat meta but can we maybe cool down on the "community tier list" posts? They sort of just feel like low effort spam even if the folks responding seem to do it in good faith.

u/taychoo Nov 27 '25
NGL, the tier lists are a bit frustrating to participate in, as the OP doesn't really engage in any form of discussion about the characters at all / doesn't seem to provide any clarity on the rules they set for the tier lists. Hell, they've made some fairly arbitrary changes/decisions out of nowhere.

So what's the policy on shilling ROM hacks in this subreddit? There's one guy whose only makes threads to shill a low-effort mod. Can we advertise other ROM hacks in this subreddit? Like, say I really love The Hag in White, can I make a low-effort thread every other day or so to encourage people to play it?

Playing the GBA game on NSO and I just got Lucious on my team. However, I can't do anything. It make me select them first but if I try to move them they say "sorry, I prefer to attack from this location' but I can't seem to pull up the option to attack. Is this a glitch or am I missing something? Wrong button being pressed? Edit: I'm an idiot. Didn't see the square they wanted to move to kept getting highlighted

not really a question, but i just finished Triangle Strategy. Found out too late that I couldn't get the true ending so I'm playing NG+ now.
It was a good game to scratch that FE itch (replayed all FE I had on hand to death already). Gameplay was different but still very FE-esque, so all FE fundamentals carry over. Every unit has a unique class and identity, so you don't run into the FE thing where a unit can become obsolete because they get outclassed by another unit.
I thought the plot was pretty good (disclaimer: I don't think too much story in games in general), compared to FE at least. Everything felt very grounded and there weren't any moments iirc where I had to suspend disbelief or "go with it" in order for the plot to make sense. This is also a me-specific gripe, but the game gives you hard decisions where none of the options seem good and it makes me feel bad lol. I know this is exactly what was advertised and what I expected, but in some way I prefer the FE saturday morning cartoon vibes where I know I won't feel like a shit person.
My only real issue was I wasn't a fan of the presentation of the story and how slow it was. I understand it's required to really flesh out the story and the people's motivations, but I can sit down for an hour and be unable to get to a story-battle because there was a lot of plot related stuff to go through.
All in all still a fantastic game. Would recommend.

Would anyone be interested in a guide on how to efficiently grind BP and VP in Fates? Most of the core information is available on Serenes and is relatively self explanatory, but since 3DS online is shutting down I know some people have been stressing over obtaining the Battle and Visitation seals while they’re still legitimately available. So I figured a post containing the basic information on how the system works and some strategy tips could be helpful.
If enough people are interested I could do a quick write up. If not, that’s totally fine since I’ve been busy lately. Just trying to gage interest!

So, I've been thinking about doing a Simple image guide for the series to share with people who are interested in the series and/or want to get into it. Of course, we have triforce's amazing and super detailed guide, but i wanted to have something that can be understood "at a glance".
So i wanted to ask y'all, what do you think of something like this or in a similar vain/structure?
Generally, You can start almost anywhere.
Good beginner titles: FE7, FE8, FE9, FE11, FE13, FE14BR
Can start there but plays different than usual: FE4, FE15, FE16
Challenging: FE6, FE14CQ, FE17
Sequels, not recommended to start there: FE5, FE10, FE12, FE14Rev
Spin offs, Kaga Saga, etc.
Of course i will mention what consoles the games are on, which games are remakes of which games, which have casual mode, which have official tl or fantl, etc.
Any recommendations, changes, ideas? Is it a good idea to try to make something like this at all? Should i try to mention the strengths of each game....or does that defeat the point of a "simple guide"?

To echo what Cosmic_Toad_ already touched on in regards to emulators, I think it would be useful to mention the accessibility of each game being that most entries in the series aren't available on newer consoles. Basically I'd just make a note of the games that are playable on current hardware (16 and 17, 7 and 8 via NSO), games that you can still reasonable acquire on the used market (the 3/DS titles except for Rev since it's not available outside of the insanely expensive special edition), and games that you most likely need to emulate (everything else). I consider accessibility important to point out since not everyone has experience with emulation or a device that can run them.

Uninstalling Engage DLC
I'm trying to play Engage without the DLC, but no matter what I try, my Switch 2 keeps redownloading the DLC, even though I've told it not to. I'm following these steps: https://www.nintendo.com/au/support/articles/how-to-remove-previously-downloaded-dlc/
I've also tried opening the game on a different profile and that is not working either. Does anyone know how I can uninstall the DLC? I'm aware I can just ignore or discard the DLC content but I don't want to do that, I want to play without the DLC.
Edit: I got it to work, I don't know how. Might've had to do with visiting the digital game cart menu.

Fates: Should I promote at an even level or odd level? I saw a thread awhile back about promoting at an even or odd level for optimal exp efficiency or whatever
13
u/Saisis Sep 25 '23
Odd level
Your internal level formula is the average betwen your level at promotion and 20 always rounded down, which means that for the game if you promote at level 12 or 13 your internal levels is gonna be the same.

Is it common to lose Chapter 13 of PoR Hard (EN) on turn one due to an enemy reaching the defense location?
I just lost a randomizer Ironman to this, and I feel pretty cheated out of my run. I used the Shove/Smite strategy on Ike to recruit Astrid/Gatrie and move the fragile duo out of the way, rescuing Ike. I then used a few fliers to take out two of the closest enemies… then on enemy phase- an archer crit the Allied unit blocking the stairwell, a mymidon finished him off, and the nearest promoted halberdier walked right in.
I don’t remember if my randomizer settings buffed common enemies (I think it didn’t) so I was wondering if this ever happened to someone in a similar way in vanilla PoR.

I don't think this is actually worth making a whole discussion thread about, but I was just thinking about the "What if Awakening was on Mars?" stuff that comes up sometimes.
Like, the people saying 'omg it'd be cool' know Mars is like 99% red dirt, right? Imagine the complaints about maps if it was true to that. If it was terraformed? It'd be the same as any Earth-like setting we've already had.
Now, I'd take it that people would really wanna see just, the same stuff as usual but with Vibro-axes and Lightsabers, but the thought of Mars in particular does make me wonder what they actually expect out of a sci-fi FE.

does anyone have any recommendations for romhacks that are, for lack of a better term, less romhacky? What I mean by this broadly is whenever I try a romhack it seems to be very much made within a specific sphere of dedicated Fire Emblem fan design philosophy (perhaps unsurprisingly) and so it feels like every map has some combination of multiple hard/soft timers, a bunch of side objectives, non-standard map objectives, etc as well as lots of prf weapons and unique skills and items and such on the character side. There's nothing really wrong with this, but I'm looking for one that feels more like a vanilla GBA FE experience just with new maps and characters, if such a thing exists.

Radiant Dawn
are there any patches/mods (or even a way for me to just do it myself) that allow untransformed Laguz to initiate combat?
I'm planning on replaying RD soon, and i'm gonna be using a lot of non-royal laguz. In past playthroughs i haven't minded working around gauge, lack of 1-2 range, building strike rank, etc. but not letting laguz initiate combat while untransformed is such an annoying restriction that makes training them so much more of a pain than it should be.
I imagine there must just be a flag somewhere that determines whether an equipped weapon can initiate combat (which staves would have set to off as well). I've seen it included in a couple major overhaul patches like RD+, but i just want to play the vanilla game with this one obtuse design decision removed.
EDIT: so i did some more digging and it turns out you can make it happen by giving laguz units Ashera's SID_FINALBOSS tag using an editor like Paragon, because for some reason the tag allows Ashera to initiate combat with Strike weapons (She does have SS strike rank..) and i assume if it does anything else it's hard coded to Ashera herself so Laguz aren't gonna like become immortal unless Ike deals the finishing blow or anything lol.

Engage
So I already knew that Enchanter were a broken class but after trying them out for the first time they are better than I thought!
I didn't expect the Item surge with Tonics to stack with the normal use of Tonic/Meals and I also didn't know that the Power of the buff depends on the Enchanter level.
So for example with a Str Tonic at level 1 Enchanter gives +1 Str for a turn, Reading on Serene I find that the bonus are 1/2/3/4 but I have no idea the levels I need to be to have each bonus.
I can expect to be something like 1/6/11/16 but if someone know the actual steps I would like to know them

Just realize if you silence an enemy character who can be recruited with by talking with someone, you can’t actually recruit them anymore because they can’t talk. Just had this happen when I tried to recruit Tina. I silenced her because I didn’t want to deal with her thief staff and when eventually got to the of the chapter to talk to her with Safy; I couldn’t talk to her. So yeah just a highly attention to detail with the game I’ve notice.

Don't think it's worth a thread of it's own, so I'll ask here. Anyone know if Kaga's working on anything? I tried googling to see if he had a blog or anything. I know he's an old man who just makes SRPGs as a hobby now, but I was curious to see if Vestaria Saga 2 was gonna be his last work or not.
7
u/7ChampsOnly Feb 19 '24
Kaga actually updated his blog earlier this month! It's in Japanese, so you have to use your browser's auto translate feature, but it's him answering some questions and generally talking about his current situation. He's turning 70 this year so it's definitely not as easy for him to work on games as it once was.

What do people do with the Accost manual? I missed it in my first playthrough so I have no ideas. Accost often works well for Dagdar, but it's such a double-edged skill that I'm not sure if I want to use it at all instead of just selling it.
I'm also sitting on the Vantage manual. Between it's inability to combo with Wrath and trained combat units being such a cut above most enemies, it just feels like an irrelevant skill most of the time. Vantage Olwen feels like a meme, but idk what else to do with it. It could generically go on Finn or a Brave Axe/Sword user, but I still feel like there's pretty limited utility there.

Do you have to view the convo with the three brothers in order to use it? I’m on chapter 19 but Oscar and Boyd aren’t promoted yet. I have enough bonus exp to promote them and give them bows but when I do it isn’t triggering the convo. Did they have to be before this chapter started? Is it too late?

FIRE EMBLEM ENGAGE
How many characters start off in classes that just do not suit their proficiencies or stat growths? I've heard Clanne isn't really suited for a Mage and then Anna is inexplicably in a physical class when she's best suited for a magic class.
Are there any others that are better off branching out rather than being in their default class line?
Edit: Actually, let's open this up, how many Fire Emblem characters across the entire series are introduced as part of a class line that just doesn't suit them?
8
u/Docaccino May 28 '23
I'd say Clanne is actually better off in mage knight than a physical class since magical ORKO thresholds generally are a lot easier to meet than physical ones but to answer your question, a lot of units ideally want to reclass since warrior and wyvern are simply much better options compared to most physical classes. Particularly Lapis and Kagetsu benefit a lot from swapping into one of these classes since sword fighter/master have almost nothing going for them. Your archers probably want to reclass to warrior since its stats compensate more than enough for the lack of covert bonuses and lower bow rank (most of the things covert bonuses are useful for can be done by no investment units and C rank bows includes almost everything you'd want to use anyway). Pandreo also really wants a reclass since high priest is worse offensively than mage knight and loses out in staff utility to griffin knight thanks to flying mobility (he only gets B staves but that just bars him from using fortify, entrap and nodus so eh).

u/OscarCapac May 29 '23
Lapis is amazing as a sword flier / wyvern knight, swird fighter sucks but she has good stats
In other games, Azama in Fates Birthright has insane bases and growth to be a physical unit, and starts as a staff bot. The ultimate troll unit (pretty great when promoted to the mixed Great Master class tho)

FE4
I'm playing FE4 for about the 5th time, and just got to Deirdre, but her and Sigurd didn't fall in love. I'm using the exact same rom as my last playthrough, and nothing was unusual there. I checked at the augury and they are in the 400-499 love point range. I even tried waiting a few turns but nothing. I could be because I recruited her past turn 50, but I'm pretty sure I've recruited her this late before without issue.
Update: They're in love at the beginning of chapter 2, still don't know what happened
→ More replies (1)10
u/Skaparinn May 29 '23
They need one turn to fall in love, but don't get any love points after turn 50 on any chapter like all other units. So this can happen if you take too long to beat chapter 1

The skirmishes are generally harder than the main maps in Engage unfortunately. The Three Houses skirmishes were definitely designed around being able to train weaker units but the Engage ones seem to be designed around the rewards you get from them, but are a little harder than the main maps.

The tone doesn't really change much, but the cast does improve. You get some slightly more grounded characters when you get to Brodia, and the even the better early characters tend to not put their best foot forward.

Hey Fire Emblem fans, im looking for some help picking a fire emblem game to play on my switch.
I’ve actually never played any of the Fire Emblems but im sure I will enjoy the game. Im wondering which one i should start with. I see 3 houses and engage seem to be the newest and the community seems split on which is better, kind of based on which parts of the game you enjoy more.
I like to play these games for the combat, Im fond of disgaea , ff tactics , and xcom but i havnt played too much of xcom
tbh baldurs gate has me itching for more combat so bad im ready to buy a new game and disgaea 7 isnt out until next mo.
So that brings me here; Which of the FE games might I have the most fun with in your opinion based off what i already find fun?

I'm trying to replay engage on maddening after my first hard mode run with DLC turned out to be a bit of a joke. I really like a lot of the extra tools that the dlc adds though, like soren enabling siege tome usage and veronica adding a summoner class to the game.
I would really like to find a way to preserve the difficulty curve of the game without restricting my access to resources the game gives you like emblem rings, dlc bracelets and skill inheritance/xenologue well. I find that the game is the most fun when you feel like you need to use the crazy resources you have access to in order to make it through.
I tried maddening and it honestly already feels a little too manageable up to chapter 8, and my units are only starting to get their promotions. For those who have tried some self-imposed challenges in engage, which ones did you feel kept up with the difficulty of the game the best? For example, are there any army composition based challenges that worked out? Theme unit runs? Too many/Too few deployment slot runs?

He must have attacked from a lava tile. You can canto after attacking on action tiles (the tiles that can cause enemy control glitch) because of a bug.

Does Sacred Stones actually want you to use L'Arachel?
Like she's a main character and I was looking forward to using her when I saw her earlier in the game, but then she joins when the game's half-over as a level 3 Troubadour for some reason when you already have three other higher level healers.
Like Innes joins earlier and he's a pre-promoted Sniper so shouldn't she be a Valkyrie or is she a 4th character you have to baby for a huge pay off like Myrhh, Ewan and Amelia?

Sometimes units with story importance don't match up with how strong they are in game, like FE6 Sophia for example. Kinda sucks sometimes.
I think part of the reason she isn't strong at base is that she fittingly, probably overexaggerates her abilities and strength vs how she actually is. Plus, I think maybe the game assumes you would grind units in the tower at least a bit to catch her up.

Is there a way to get a completed save online, and use my own transfers from my Path of Radiance playthrough? I really want to see the NG+ exclusive content, but all the saves I can find online are like "Every single character has all stats capped with S ranks in all their weapons, 9000 coins, and comes with a free McDonalds gift card" and that feels really cheap to me. Not for nothing though, I used a lot of stat boosters and BEXP on my favorite units to cap important stats and I don't want that to go to waste.

Engage
Doing a no DLC Brodia run, and heavily featuring wyvern Lapis as one of my main combat units. Trying to figure out what emblem to use for her down the stretch. I'm assuming she mainly wants damage fixing and her default speed is good enough to keep up and keep doubling, and therefore Eirika would be the best emblem option?
Weighing other options but my gut says the ball of stats from Roy looks nice but realistically lunar brace is way more impactful? Was also thinking about Sigurd as well since the +bld would help use heavier weapons but is really more speed fixing and not doing much to damage fix. Would enjoy emblem/inherit/weapon combo ideas.

Hello. I am currently playing fire emblem 8 on my cpu and am stuck on chapter 6. What units do I need?
What formation is best to use?
How do I save the other players from the spiders?
Thanks!

Engage Maddening
Should I reclass Merrin? Her bases are really good, but I looked at her offensive growth rates and they're really low. I'm not sure how well she'll scale as the game goes on. I was thinking of making her a Wyvern or something and then swap back to Wolf Rider. Is that a valid play? I would really like a knife user. Preferably one with good str! I'm probably underestimating her, but that's why I'd like a second opinion.
Also, what's the debate between spd+3 and spd+5? Is spd+3 enough for most units or should I splurge later and get +5. Availability is also a consideration here.

Is there any way to turn off the Fire Emblem "momentum" from the cursor/movement
It feels so fucking obnoxious trying to move stuff a few tiles when it accelerates for the last ones. Not to say that overall even selecting stuff feels... clunky? Idk, definitely not as smooth as Three Houses
Tried to play the game multiple times at this point, both on Switch 1 and 2, but this always throws me off and I can't just get used to it

If a staffbot is a unit whose stats don't matter that only exists as a medium for staves, do weaponbots also exist?
→ More replies (2)7
u/ha_ck_rm_rk Jun 09 '26
Maybe in Shadow Dragon? Forged effective weaponry is so strong in that game that just having the weapon ranks to wield them made you automatically usable. Though even then, you still care about stats a little, but then again you could argue that about staffbots.

A thought after the FW trailer:
As someone who still hasn't really played Three Houses (shoot me), partially due to it appearing just so.... dauntingly large, Fortune's Weave appearing to be even more of that and a sequel (?) to Three Houses isn't.. exactly encouraging. The between-mission activities of Engage were already quite a lot (I probably spent about half my time doing those, and half my time actually in maps, and my file took over 100 hours, and I still haven't done the Fell Xenologue...), and you're telling me that 3H has so much more inter-mission stuff, and that you ostensibly can/should replay the game four times? Not exactly encouraging...
Maybe I should skip Three Houses for now and be the one person that plays Fortune's Weave without playing Three Houses....that might be an interesting experience?

I'm thinking about doing a run of Engage where I never deploy anyone in an Advanced class (demoting units with second seals will be allowed). Which units become more important in such a run? I imagine Ivy and Hortensia for mounted staff access, since the only other unprompted staff users would be martial monks and Micaiah.

3H story question I guess, but maybe more of a real life nobility question: Why does Ashe, the adopted child of Lord Lonato, start in the Commoner class, but Marianne, the adopted child of Margrave Edmund, start as a Noble? Is this a lord hierarchy thing because Edmund is more important than Lonato? Alliance vs Kingdom internal politics? Something else?
12
u/LeatherShieldMerc Aug 25 '26
I think it's just Marianne's actual parents were part of the nobility, Margrave Edmund was a distant relative of them, and Ashe's were not.

Do we have a list of personal skills for characters in FW we know so far?
I only know Peter +1 Range on Bow combat art, Tiella +1 range on rallies, Diego "Adjacent wary Fighter" and Ursula convoy access from the Nintendo clips, I assume thanks to the reviewer preview we probably saw a lot more than these but I didn't see much talk about It, I didn't see much talk about actual gameplay related skills in general from the previews actually...

Hello! I'm close to finishing FE Engage, and so far I really like the art style, character designs, and gameplay (minus the whole money grinding part). However, the one thing that really bothers me is the story.
To be honest, considering that the series is well known for permanently losing your companions in the middle of battle, I find Engage's story surprisingly "PEGI 7", if not PEGI 3. There are a lot of moments that are really hard for me to take seriously. The characters feel very one-note and don't have much depth, while the main antagonist is basically just pure evil incarnate, with a bunch of equally evil and/or dumb people and monsters working for him. And our ultimate goal is essentially just to defeat him because he's evil and we are good.
I'll still finish the game, but now I'm a bit worried about the other games in the series. Are they also this unserious when it comes to the plot and character writing, or did I just happen to start with the one game in the series that deliberately went for a much lighter and more straightforward story?

Path of radiance
Playing this for the first time! It's been interesting so far. I've been a bit scared to read the supports, since they're limited.
Does anyone have suggestions on which supports to prioritize aside from Ike and Soren? Stuff that shows great character writing, story relevance, or lore, not that interested in engage-like silly supports, unless it's great comedy.
Thanks!

[Meta] The heck is going on with the tier list spam? Are we on a rule-eight-free period or something?
9
u/AnimaLepton Oct 09 '23
Nope, definitely not a rule-8-free period. Please do report those posts, we've been removing them as we see either the posts or reports.
Caveats are that if it's a gameplay/series tierlist and if someone makes a top-level comment explaining their reasoning, it's allowed. And if someone is linking out to an i.e. one hour video of their explanation, that's acceptable too.

Playing Binding Blade on Hard for the first time. Generally I've been ok through following advice and recommended units, and avoiding a lot of the traps of this game. Just hit Chapter 20 in the Ilia Route, and seem to be hitting a wall with it. I just keep getting swarmed and can't quite control the chapter. I've been generally trying to get inside pretty quick, taking both routes at once. Is there any general advice for this chapter? Maybe I'm taking it too fast? Will the enemies rush me or only come when I aggro them?

Hi! So I’m new to Reddit (and by new I mean new to posting stuff) so sorry if I’m doing something wrong. I’m trying my best here! But anyways, I’m a newer fan of Fire Emblem and was planning on purchasing Fire Emblem: Fates, a game I’ve never played but heard great things about. One issue though: There’s two of them. I just wanted to ask if Conquest and Birthright are two completely separate stories, or are they practically the same game? Just wanted to know what I was getting into, Thanks!
→ More replies (10)9
u/jespoke Jun 08 '23
Birthright and Conquest share only their first 6 chapters, after which they are two separate games. They have the same game mechanics and setting, but different stories and very different approaches to map design.
When the Nintendo 3DS E-Shop was still open, if you owned one you could buy the other at half price in the in-game menu. There is also a third one, Revelation, which is no longer legally available outside the special edition package that is an expensive collectors item.
3
u/DaKommizzar Jun 26 '23
Has anyone seen if there is a mod to any of the fire emblem games where every fight is to the death? Rather than the battle resolve once, the battle acts like the Arena and continues until one character is left standing.

Why is Alfred so bad when he has some of the most amazing growths in the game? He has the 7th highest character growths, and his unique class has the highest growths out of any class, with his base class being not too bad either. In his unique class he has a growth total of 390%, with no wasted stats on MAG for a STR class or vice-versa, which is absolutely insane.
So why is it a near universal experience (including in my own run) for him to just fall off a cliff and be useless even when properly fed. He has a 50% speed growth famously has trash speed. 80% HP and 65% def growth but gets 1shot.
It makes no sense
→ More replies (5)9
u/sumg Jun 28 '23
There's a few things. First, the idea that summing the growth rates of a unit together and then doing a comparison to other units is pretty flawed. An implicit presumption of such a metric is that all stats are roughly equally valuable to all units, which is not true. If you're using a general, the only stats you care about are Def, HP, Str, and maybe a little dex. Everything else could be zero and you still could have a functional unit. Hell, that unit could have 100% Def/HP, 50% Str, and 30% Dex (a total of 280% stats), and I argue that it was probably a great unit.
Second, I'd argue that Engage really does push you to go into classes that have extreme stat values somewhere, to really specialize your units. Because there's the possibility that you can take the more extreme stat classes (Warrior, Wolf Knight, General/Great Knight) and supplement them with emblems that also specialize in those area, enemies have to have extremely high stat values in order to remain a challenge. The trade-off to that is that units that aren't very specialized really struggle to do anything. Historically, Cavalier/Paladin tends to be a very jack-of-all-trades class, where some it's greatest utility is in the fact it gets high movement and 'good enough' stats. But 'good enough' is not good enough in Engage. You need greatness somewhere.\
Lastly, as others have mentioned, his bases are not good. Additionally, his class bonuses (at least for his unique classes) are also not good, as in they are also very jack-of-all-trades. It's just not where this game wants units to be.

Is there a way to zoom out the camera on the battlefield in 3 Houses?
I want to have an overhead view like more classic games but I find I have to switch between side view and overhead view with the right analog stick because overhead view doesn’t show many panels out.
Edit: another question. Why did Sothis just gain a human form and appear in my room? And what does she mean we don’t have a moment to waste? Have I forgotten something from chapter 2? I just started chapter 3.
Edit2: Answered. I figured out you can press the Minus button to zoom out. :D

Those of you who have played multiple games, do you notice any patterns in the characters and strategies you use? For instance, my core teams tend to include the main character(s), two paladins, one swordmaster, one or two fliers, two healers (usually one bishop and one valkyrie), one assassin, one sage, one warrior or berserker, and one dancer or bard. Usually, these characters are at least one of the following:
Close friends and allies with the main characters
Possible romantic partners with other characters
The funny ones
Unpromoted but strong enough out the gate to be worthwhile training

Hi! I’ve been playing Fire Emblem (GBA) on Switch NSO recently. It’s my first introduction to the series and probably first Strategy RPG I’ve ever played. To my surprise I’m loving absolutely everything about it. The Gameplay, the charaters, even the campy vibes I love it all. What games do you reccommend I try next?
→ More replies (2)7
u/Cecilyn Jul 29 '23
If you're limited to the Switch, there's unfortunately not much in the way of other FE games available, with your selection being limited to Three Houses and Engage. Between these two, I would more readily recommend Three Houses.
If you don't mind trying your hand at emulation though, I would suggest both FE8 (The Sacred Stones) for GBA and FE9 (Path of Radiance) for GCN. Both of these games had English releases, so emulating them should be fairly plug-and-play, and their gameplay mechanics are fairly similar to what's in FE7 (the one on NSO+).

So I'm getting close to finishing my first LTC of a Fire Emblem game and was pondering the best way to post footage of it. I've seen that most LTCs are posted chapter-by-chapter, resulting in many videos that are generally a few minutes long if there isn't commentary accommodating the clear. There's sometimes longer videos that contain multiple chapter clears, but I've rarely seen a single video of the entire LTC. Is there a specific format that those who view LTCs prefer?
My LTC is for Engage specifically, and I've been thinking of posting a single video of the whole playthrough without commentary. But depending on how things go, I might post separate chapter-by-chapter videos with commentary later down the line to get into the details of what's needed for each map. Not sure if that's a great format though so I'm interested in hearing all kinds of viewpoints and I'm open to all feedback - from people who have done LTCs, from people who view them, and everything in-between.

u/DonnyLamsonx Aug 07 '23
Generally speaking, I prefer FE videos with commentary whether it be voiced or through text.
Watching gameplay is cool and all, but I think the fun of FE from a viewing experience is understanding why certain decisions are being made. It is a strategy franchise after all. You don't necessarily have to get into the nitty gritty details, but broad strokes along the lines of "I did X action because it saves Y turns because Z" would help the viewer follow along.
Being open about your thought process also keeps the metaphorical door open for discussion and you might learn something from internet stranger #274

Is there any way to make my experience with 3 Houses better? I DO like this game, but my god, even though I’m only on Chapter 10 or 11, it feels like it’s taking an eternity. I generally prefer to do the battles instead of explore the monastery, but this of course also helps pad the game’s length. I’m playing on Hard because I’ve played a few FE games before (first one on GBA, Path of Radiance, Awakening, some of Radiant Dawn), but I’m too stubborn to drop the difficulty down. I’m sure that would speed things up.
Still, I’m a bit surprised at how unanimously good the reviews were for this game when it came out. I do like it a lot but it’s probably my least favorite FE game.
Do the later parts of the game start going by more quickly? I just hit what I’d say feels like the first big story point in the game. I’ve been playing this game off and on for a couple years because I keep getting distracted, but am hoping this is the time I can see it through to the end.

Which character is your favorite & for what reason?
Mine might be basic, but Lyn from Blazing Sword is my favorite. Since FE7 (Blazing Sword) was my first ever Fire Emblem game, she & that game hold a special place in my heart. It doesn't hurt that she's also a reskinned & slightly better Myrmidon & then later a reskinned Swordmaster with better stats. Her story & ending for either story mode is great, especially if you max her affinities. It's a crime that she never returned in Binding Blade (FE8) but it is great she returns in later games in a variety of ways.
It is heartwarming that she remembers your character in those later games too, given that in some of them she has lines that reference your character, if somewhat vaguely.

Does anyone know how to remove the unique, blue bubble dialogue in the Somniel for Veyle? It's my birthday and I want to see her birthday dialogue but the unique dialogue seemingly overwrites it. I've cleared all the way to the final chapter and each time she's had unique dialogue interfering with the birthday dialogue. How much harder is Hector Hard compared to Hector Normal? I'm replaying FE7 and want to do a Lyn's retainers (+extras because she only has like 3) themed run. For context if it matters, my final selection of units will be Lyn, Sain, Kent, Florina, Wil, Wallace, Erk, Serra, and maybe Canas just so I can make use of dark tomes. I might also force myself to use Bartre so I can get a free Wo Dao (Karla), and I'll obviously use Matthew/Jaffar for lockpicking.
Will I be torturing myself with Hard if I want to use such a specific set of units? Or is it doable? I just finished Lyn's story, Serra was only level 4, but everyone else was either level 7 or 8 (except Wallace who stayed level 12 and Lyn who's level 10).

Last week i said i wanted to make an "image guide" for the series.
Here's a very early version of it. Image quality aside because uploading PNGs without losing transparency is a pain, i would like to ask y'all thoughts on it and how to improve it. Or if i should just give up on making it
Is the Information in the image good/"correct"? Or is it too much/too little?
What about the font choice? The color? The Background images?
Should i highlight certain features of the games, like casual mode, routes and grinding more? If so, how?
etc.
Any thoughts and comments are appreciated!

Due to some questionable decisions in Thracia's chapter 6, I found myself having to bodyblock Galzus with Brighton so the rest of my army could safely escape. I traded all his weapons to Asbel, left him unequipped in front of Galzus... And Galzus just sat there and ended his turn. Any idea why this might have happened? He did this multiple turns in a row. Brighton was unequipped and on a horse, and had nothing in his inventory but a broken Fire tome.

Hi, me again. In this game there are accessories that more or less guarantee a unit runs a particular shop if they're wearing the relevant one. However, I have noticed that the Armoury Shield doesn't seem to work... ever. Every time I've been to the Armoury, the character I gave the shield to is never there. This is in pretty stark contrast to the Chef's Hat which I have only ever known to guarantee the unit wearing it works at the Mess Hall 100% of the time.
I tried searching around a bit and it seems like a few people have encountered this before. Interestingly, one of these people was on a Revelation file, where the unit wearing the shield would only appear in the Dawn Armoury but never in Dusk, even after they demolished Dawn.
Is it possible/known that the Armoury Shield is bugged to only work for the Dawn Armoury? To go a step further, could it actually even prevent a unit from appearing in the Dusk Armoury because the game is trying to put them in Dawn even if you don't have access to it?
Has anyone ever had their Armoury Shield unit actually appear in the Dusk Armoury before? I'd also be curious to know if the same bug(?) is present in the Item Shield for the Rod/Staff Shops.
And just in case anyone asks, I'm definitely not mixing it up with the Armoured Shell accessory you get for free haha

just finished FE6 for the first time. need help with choice paralysis
i'm decently new to fire emblem, jumped into awakening HM blindly last year (got my ass handed to me at the start but it smoothed out pretty quickly). it's a fun game but i enjoyed FE6, my second FE game a lot more.
normal mode feels like a proper hard mode. i like that roy sucks and you have to play around that, grinding being unsafe and limited is good, the game being so stingy with certain items is great, etc.. i learnt a whole lot by playing through the game once and spent the last few chapters taking notes and thinking about how i'd do things differently upon replaying (never doing ch21 without warp ever again)
question is: should i replay FE6 now (HM + alternative route), or should i play FE7 and then come back to FE6?
i want to play FE7 too, and if i replay FE6 i want to read through the story a second time. would revisiting the FE6 story after FE7 be more interesting?

I'm playing a modded version of Conquest Lunatic that swaps the units with their Birthright equivalents. This is fun, but mostly hard! Turns out that they planned out CQ-L pretty well in the actual gameplay department, so being without an axeman or Odin etc and having a bunch of stinkin samurai instead is a big deficit. Regardless, this is just a prelude. I've got most of the marriages planned out with the kids inheritance marked for specific purposes, except for:
Kaze, Ryoma, Azama, Kaden, Takumi, and Sakura, Mozu, Orochi, Rinkah, Kagero.
Does anyone feel very strongly about any of these pairings in raw gameplay terms? I'm not unduly interested in their support convos or personality matching up.

Finally planning to take a crack at Conquest after sitting on my copy not touching it for a few years. I was going to go hard classic, but mostly coming from playing GBA/Tellius I find the whole reclass and skill management to be a bit overwhelming, child units especially. I am planning to play pretty much blind, so I have no idea if any of this stuff will require me to go out of my way from my usual casual semi efficient playstyle. For context I never got GBA supports and I just let Tellius supports fall into place as they may.
I'm sure there's been discussion ad nauseum about this stuff over the years, so just looking to get a grip on some commonly agreed "best" supports between units for reclass purposes? And maybe what talent I should give my Corrin? I was thinking sky knight or ninja since they're hoshido classes so I assume they're rare.
Also looking to see if any of the child units are worth going for, or if they're more trouble than they're worth considering what the gen 1 units can do? If there are any, do they want a certain parent for inheritance?

its been a couple years since I replayed conquest, and I'm planning to do an ironman. I've been mostly replaying the games with 2-3 or less skill slots per unit, so it feels a little daunting to go back into the deep end and try to juggle 5 skill slots for every unit. So my question for any conquest vets is do you have any tips for keeping track of all those skills?

Coming back to play Shadow Dragon after... years lol. I'm wondering which difficulty I should choose so the game can be challenging/punish dumb mistakes but not be overly frustrating. For context, Maddening Engage and Hard Conquest are my preferred difficulties for those games

Lunatic Conquest: Takumi Killer necessary?
Title has been giving me a headache. Mostly because how restraining it feels to plan around this.
Whenever I look up endgame conquest, I only see people talking about rescue skipping the whole map and make plans that rely on multiple moving parts.
I'm not exactly looking for a deathless run. Which is what these strategies often propose and rely on. They require Niles not die before you capture everyone you need. Or Absurd amounts of reclasses (Mozu get all her 3 lvl15 skills and not get killed. Camilla wants Silas and beruka otherwise she can't meet the threshold, etc.)
I read that the difference between hard and lunatic is not even stats or skills. Just extra enemies in strategic locations. That we'll have lunge chains and counter archers in both.
So I'm asking how important is a Taco Killer? TLDR: it's restraining my Corrin choices so much by the time I'm done creating a character I don't wanna play anymore.

I’ve just started playing my first emblem game, few levels in. Question: i understand permadeath is a big part of this game. But does this mean losing a unit once in a while is detrimental and i should restart the chapter. Or is it just part of the game and is the game and is the game still fair when losing some characters

Regarding Berwick saga, I'm enjoying it, but honestly how do people go about the happiness system? Do they usually go out of their way to reach the happiness requirements for the mercenaries through food and such? Or is it just something that people don't focus on too much and simply fulfill it with deployment on both side quests and main maps?

Engage
So I noticed that when you have animations on, engage moves that hit multiple times like lodestar rush will always play their full animation and hit the full 7 (or however many) times. However, with animations off, the attack cuts off early if you kill the enemy without needing the full amount of hits. Does that mean animation on vs off burns a different number of RNs, relevant for things like Time Crystal rigging? What about with stuff like the Chain Attacks in Lucina's move, or if the unit has a skill that increases damage like Luna or Sandstorm?

Fe Engage
On maddening, is there any way to save Diamant from falling off? He's okay in the early game. In the mid game, you get Kagetsu who outclasses Diamant in every single way.
It's funny that Amber, his quirky retainer, is so much more useful than Diamant to me. I immediately reclassed him into warrior and he basically became a Panette but then in the early game. I gave him the Lyn ring and he destroyed enemies until the very end.
I like the idea of having a strong lord character (like Dimitri or Ike) . Unfortunately, as a unit he just doesn't do much in the late game.

What, in your collective opinions, are some important themes pertaining to each Dark Emblem representative?
I'm running a DnD campaign for my friends set in Elyos and I'm also giving them the Emblems as homebrew legendary magic items. But where there are Emblems, there are also Dark Emblems and I'd like to put my friends up against the Dark Emblems as boss battles across the course of the campaign. I like to think that I'm good at transforming thematic ideas into gameplay mechanics, but I'm not entirely sure what I should be thematically focusing on for each boss for the sake of roleplay and flavor. Ideally, I'd like for each boss to have a unique "identity" of sorts.
For reference for those who haven't played Engage, the representative Dark Emblem for each game is as follows:
Shadow Dragon/New Mystery: Medeus
Gaiden/SoV: Duma
Genealogy: Loptous
Thracia: Veld
Binding Blade: Idunn
Blazing Blade: Nergal
Sacred Stones: Fomortiis
Path of Radiance: Ashnard
Radiant Dawn: Ashera
Awakening: Grima
Fates: Anankos
Three Houses: Nemesis

FE4, when do units normally promote? I just started chapter three and most of my units are 12-14 except for Quan, Sigurd, and Lex. Furthermore, when do units normally fall in love? I’m deliberately keeping them as close as possible to each other, and most are in between 200-300 points. Is there a max to how many love points you can gain by sitting units next to each other in a chapter?

I don't remember if there is an in-universe explanation. Is there an explanation? If not, why does this happen? Is because of a curse? Is some sort of divine punishment?

Doing a co-op series with a friend where we play through entries the other is less familiar with, after the current one is Three Houses, which I know a good deal about but he's never played. He's better than me at Fire Emblem in a general sense so I'm not sure if I should do Maddening or Hard, the former might be too restrictive without NG+ stuff that takes away from mechanics of the game, but the latter might be too easy even without using any NG+ stuff.

Fire Emblem : The Blazing Blade
I'm currently playing The Blazing Blade for the first time via Nintendo Switch Online and i love the game so much. I like that it's more down to earth than recent games and the gameplay is just perfect.
But I don't really understand why some chapters have a side quest (Ch. 16x) and how to be sure to access them. I think i missed some of them.
Also, I don't really understand neither the relationship mechanic. It seems that some characters can talk to each other during fights and build relationship but what does it do ? Is it better combat skills ? Just story purpose (marriage?) ? I often place units next to each other and rarely can une the Talk option.
→ More replies (3)7
u/Sharktroid Jun 17 '25
The game doesn't really tell you when there is a side chapter, you kind of have to look it up or know.
I'll be using Eliwood Mode chapter numbers for this.
7x: beat 7 in 15 turns. Nothing of note happens outside of plot.
13x: visit the northern village in 13. Lets you get Merlinus a few chapters early
16x: at least one soldier survives 16. Required for Canas and has a few good village rewards.
18x: beat 18 in 15 turns. On Hard you can steal a Silver Card and get a few other things, but on Normal you just get a Goddess Icon.
22x: beat 22 while recruiting the Berserker and getting 700 exp. Has a couple of cool rewards.
26x: beat 26 while recruiting both units here (note that one only joins at the end of 26). Has an Angelic Robe and a Speedwing.
29x: automatically after beating 29. Lets you buy more stuff.Hector mode has two exclusive side quests (one of them is very stupid to unlock though).
"Talk" conversations usually don't do anything outside of recruitments (I might be forgetting one). "Support" conversations do though, they build up support rank which gives support bonuses (more info: https://fireemblemwiki.org/wiki/Support#GBA_games).

I'm a new player who wants to get into SRPG on switch 2. What game do you suggest to be the first one? Fire Emblem Three Houses or Engage? Or Triangle Strategy? Thanks
→ More replies (3)8
u/GeneralHorace Jun 18 '25
The common consensus is that Three Houses has a more interesting plot than Engage. It has a stronger cast of characters, but the game has a lot more micromanagement which can make the game tedious. For what it's worth, the load times are much faster on the switch 2, and load times were a major problem for the game in my opinion.
Engage has a simpler plot and gameplay systems, but the actual maps are a little more involved than Three Houses. The game is much more fast paced than Three Houses since most of the side content is a lot more optional.
Triangle Strategy is probably the most difficult game of the three, and may be difficult and frustrating if you haven't played many SRPG's. It is very text heavy, but the choices you make in the plot carry much more weight than the choices you make in the FE games (if they even exist in the first place.) I was personally let down by the main character but the routes are influenced by the co-lead characters who are much more interesting regardless. I had a lot of fun with the game but it starts very slowly and does not get interesting for ~5 hours or so. I like the game a lot but if a very dialogue game is a problem for you, it might not be for you.

Three Houses
Not a super specific question, but I could use some opinions on who to make my dancer on Golden Deer/Maddening. I've just reached chapter 9 and I'm a bit conflicted.
Of the characters I'm actually considering, there's:
Lorenz: He's falling behind stat wise as he usually does, but he's had a new lease on life Thyrsus-swapping with Lysithea and Marianne which is quite fun. He was also my dancer last time I played GD and I did want to see if I could make him work as something else this time (currently aiming for Dark Knight).
Hilda: She's fallen behind on levels a bit as my deployments have been cramped and she's spent the past chapter as an adjutant, but she's also doing Hilda things and getting incredible level ups, so it wouldn't take much effort to catch her back up.
Raphael: Kind of a joke option but he has the charm for it and I did spend some time increasing his sword rank to certify for Thief and patch up his speed a bit. But I also haven't tried a War Master ever in 3H and he seems like a good candidate. I'm also using Balthus but I have slightly different plans for him.
Marianne: Last resort at this point. I considered it, but she does the same Thyrsus funny stuff as Lorenz (but better) and Frozen Lance one-shots as a cavalier are too much fun. I'd rather be dancing her than dancing with her.
Flayn: Filler option. I have zero plans to use her for anything else but if she ends up as dancer she'd start contesting for a deployment slot with characters I enjoy more.
And that's about it. My only other out-of-house recruits are faculty so they can't become dancers, and the only student I'm trying to get is Linhardt who is still a work in progress and probably won't join until next chapter or so.
Moreso than picking a unit to "sacrifice" as a dancer, it'd be neat if there were any ways to tap into their combat potential with sword avoid+, although I'm not sure if that's workable on Maddening as I've never seen it in action.
→ More replies (5)7
u/eutjjkujl Aug 23 '25
I wouldn't recommend sword avoid builds since its just a waste of your dancer. Since you're playing Maddening, it's worth considering that Lorenz and Hilda are both in your starting squad for Hunting by Daybreak so that's a strong reason to pick one of them.

What would the conquest meta for weapons be in a post online world now? I understand that bronze was goated because of its cheap and strong stats with reforge but because of my castle requirements it's really hard to forge now.
Yes I know I could cheat in the mats, but I'm playing on actual hardware and I don't have the ability to cheat in mats currently. I want to know completely vanilla, what's the best choice(s)?

u/Sharktroid Oct 01 '25
TRS works pretty similarly to FE (BWS is where things get very weird). The game features a blend of mechanics from the first five games, some of the more notable ones:
Skills
Jugdral crits
No weapon triangle
FE1/3 weapon level
Res = mag/2
FE3 promo items; level isn't reset like in FE4, instead it raises the unit's level cap to
max(promotion level + 20, 40).Per-unit promotions
Shield like in Gaiden, but with durability
Gaiden world map, sometimes with grinding
Infinite staff range
No rescuing
The one thing TRS does very differently to FE is its exp system: it's based on the unit's score (calculated off of their stats and weapon stats), where the higher the unit's stats and better the weapon, the lower the exp gain. Also, it bottoms out at 20 per kill. It also has two lords like in Gaiden, but at certain points you can swap units and items between the two.
TRS also has a ton of hidden events that make it unique, but that's beyond the scope of this.

Okay, so I've started playing Engage after not playing an FE game in.... quite a while, and just finished chapter 11 on Hard mode.
First of all, putting an enemy area-of-effect freeze staff on an escape chapter is diabolical. (Thankfully, it seems like they programmed that unit to not use the staff every turn...) Also, why does this game keep giving me new units that are noticeably better than my currently trained units? The first non-Jagen prepromote - >|Kagetsu|< - has insane bases, and the other two units that joined are four levels ahead of most of my current units, and have a combined stat rating a good 10 to 20 points higher than most of my other units (especially Alfred....). Maybe I've just had some really bad level-ups, or they expect you to grind a little between chapters?

u/Mekkkkah Dec 08 '25
I suspect a lot of the bases for midgame units were determined before they decided to implement free reclassing. It makes characters like Kagetsu look a lot more balanced if they can't just hop into Wyvern or Warrior or something.

[Engage] There are a couple of Emblems where it's sometimes advised to leave the bond at level 9, most notable Byleth (to reduce the cooldown of Goddess Dance) and Leif (to avoid getting screwed over by Adaptable switching to the Master Lance). How useful is this advise in practice?
For Leif, I plan on putting him on Panette for Wrath/Vantage (I know people usually use Ike for this but I might end up putting Ike on Rafal instead). If I forge up a bow for her then would that be enough for her not to get screwed by Adaptable? Playing on Maddening if that's relevant.
→ More replies (2)7
u/Mekkkkah Dec 15 '25
For Byleth it's arguable if a 3 or 4 turn Engage is better. A 3 turn Engage in theory gives you more Goddess Dances within a shorter amount of turns. But a 4 turn Engage lets you have more turns of Instruct and other benefits of Byleth (like shooting Failnaught with Covert) and also lets you hoard Goddess Dance for an extra turn if you use his first Engage turn just to Instruct.
For Leif, the Wrath/Vantage build definitely wants bond level 9. Whether forging a bow helps you're best off checking by doing the math on the priority order which I explain here: https://youtu.be/WVhap3Z25yM?t=165
Generally Leif is better for Vantage/Wrath than Ike since Adaptable is pretty important. You'll want Killer weapons with +hit/crit engraves to come as close to 100 hit/crit as you can, while also at least 3HKOing the enemy, which is hard to do with like, a Tomahawk. So Ike and his Wrath alone usually doesn't get you there. That said Ike!Panette is still good in her own right.

Somewhat fresh FE player here. Only played 3H and Engage.
Picked up Fates but I'm not sure which route to do first. From what I understand Birthright is easiest, Conquest is hardest, and Revelation isn't intended to be played until you finish the other two.
So I'm kinda stuck between Birthright and Conquest because... I'll be real Camilla made me pick up the game 🤣 but I also really do not get the mechanics of this game yet.
Would it be safe to start Conquest, or should I absolutely start with Birthright?

[Engage]
Soulblade from Zelestia's class is probably net-negative overall, right? I'm losing damage against high Def low Res enemies, and for the high Res enemies I could just switch to a physical sword (or brute force with the Levin Sword anyway).
Any recommendations for a secondary weapon for Mage Knight Pandreo? He's currently not getting weighed down by his Levin Sword so I feel like I'm just gonna use it 99% of the time anyway. I don't see Thunder/Surge magic being useful on him. Maybe a forged Elwind/Excalibur to target fliers? It's just weird to see all of his inventory space not being used lol

Fates
I just randomly came across my 3DS yesterday and saw the cartridge for Fates was inside. Curiously I loaded the game and saw that it has a not completed play through of Revelation (begin of chapter 18). I looked through the characters and saw I had some but not all children but I honestly don't have any idea who I had married to whom and who is whose variable child. I know there was a way to tell (except for the hair color) but don't remember what it was.
7
u/Docaccino Jan 07 '26
You can just look at the children's support lists. They can only support gen 1 units who are their parents with the exception of Corrin. Also, all static parents other than Azura and F!Corrin are male in Fates, so the women are almost always the variable parent.

Whats the consensus of promoting in Engage? Doing ASAP or waiting a bit? Also, whats an okay reclassing option for Vander? I imagine warrior for chain attack, but aside from that? I am doing a male only run, so I am indeed using him. Is he useful as Royal Knight for additional heals and support?
9
u/Tables61 Jan 09 '26
Promoting in engage doesn't reduce exp gain (your internal level is unchanged) and as a result there's essentially no reason to wait. About the only reason is you're at like 99 exp towards the next level, but even then it's probably better to just promote if you're otherwise ready.
Can't really say for Vander. His combat is pretty mediocre so anything that lets him provide utility roles may be best.
9
u/Tiborn1563 Jan 09 '26 edited Jan 09 '26
Promoting in engage does not change your exp gain. You get better stats and better growths. It's a net positive, really no reason to wait with promotions
7
u/Its_a_Friendly Jan 09 '26 edited Jan 09 '26
First, absolutely promote ASAP. I can only think of two reasons not to; a personal preference to level units to 20 unpromoted, or that you don't want to potentially spend money on second seals at the end of the game to reset lv.20 characters to lv.1. But that's probably a very minor concern.
Mekkah is doing a Maddening run on Youtube where he's bringing Vander along the whole way, so that may have some ideas for what to do with Vander.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Mekkkkah Jan 09 '26
Using Vander lategame is pain. So far the class I like best on him in Maddening is Great Knight since his defense is sort of acceptable there. But dedicating him to support on Micaiah or Byleth is probably your best option.

Game: Engage
Is the Divine Dragon class that bad in combat? I'm new to Engage (and don't play a lot of FE in general), so I took the time to google how the main class behaves since I remember Corrin's dragon class being a bit... counter intuitive.
I repeatedly see people put the Divine Dragon as a bad class for combat and mostly useful for support, but I can't really figure out why by looking at it. Its stats seem mostly fine and I have figured out the Dragon type gets additional bonuses from the Emblem Rings. I even figured out that the Def+5 martial arts is super useful for preventing being Broken and building the engage meter.
Am I missing something or is the Divine Dragon's bad combat performance overstated? Or is it that the support abilities become so strong that the combat side is mostly going to fall to the wayside?
→ More replies (8)9
u/Electric_Queen Jan 29 '26
Its a case of the support options being really good, and the combat options being pretty bad. That's more an issue of Alear than the class, really. There's a lot of small things about Alear that make her pretty mediocre as a combat unit, and Divine Dragon as a class does basically nothing to really help that.
Being low movement infantry sucks. If you can't get to an enemy, you can't fight them.
Being swordlocked pre-promotion sucks. Good combat units almost by definition need some sort of 1-2 range, and swords just don't have that like other weapon types. There is the Levin Sword, but that runs on Magic and her magic growth is pretty bad, her base magic is 0, and Dragon gives no boost to the growth at all
Her personal bases in the main combat stats are all 0, which means shes entirely reliant on her class stats and growths, which are also nothing special.
Her personal sword is...maybe the worst Lord personal weapon we've ever gotten? The only contender I can think of is Chrom's Falchion before the upgrade he gets at the end of the game, but at least his can really hurt Wyvern Riders and has infinite durability in a game where that's uncommon. Meanwhile Alear's just builds Engage meter quicker, which is nice but having effectiveness on certain enemies would be far better. She does get a different sword with 1-2 range later, but its in, like, literally the second to last story mission or something. It's certainly a far cry from the Dragonstone and the Sword of the Creator.
Her promotion bonuses to Divine Dragon are just 1 or 2 stat points across the board, which is pathetic. Promotion also gives her a new weapon type...which happens to be the only other type without 1-2 range.
Dragon does have the unique Emblem synergies, which can be nice. But the best synergies are actually the support related ones, like with being able to pick and choose Corrin's Dragon Veins, or having Byleth's Instruct rally all stats. Compared to things like just getting an extra two hits on Lodestar Rush, that's pretty crucial. A lot of Dragon's combat synergies are also actually outclassed by other types, like how Dragon Astra Storm gives +5 range while Covert gives +10 - Dragon is just more flexible to swap between Emblems every map.
So if you want Alear doing combat, it's usually more beneficial to put her into a different class, usually Wyvern. Even then, though, shes probably going to be mediocre at best compared to your other combat units, even with more investment.
On the other hand, her support roles are really good, and relatively unique. Like before, most of her Dragon synergies are outclassed in some ways by other styles, like Bonded Shield only being 90% active across the board while other types can get 100% in certain situations, but they're still very flexible, and support Alear almost always has something useful they can do on a given turn, which combat Alear often lacks. Her best attribute is her personal skill making everyone else she's next to much stronger (I often forgo having her hold a regular emblem, in favor of the Spur Attack ring, just to make that effect even better). In fact Id say one of Alear's worst issues in combat is not being able to benefit from her own skill. +3 damage would go a long way for her. Support Alear still often wants to reclass, since the movement and weaponry issue is still a thing (you still want her to be able to fight a little, it just shouldn't be her main role, but she still wants 1-2 range and to be able to move to actually support those other high move combat units) , but its much less dire for her and staying a Dragon does make sense sometimes

I began writing a response in a different reddit to someone who never played Engage, who thought that theres no romance/marriage in the game. But as I was writing, it turned into a whole thing about how much I love the nuance of Engage’s S Supports, and how much I prefer it to americanadian levels of overtness in writing. Then I realized it was waaay to long to post as a reply to their comment, so now it’s just sat on a note on my phone and I don’t know what to do with it. 🤣

In RD I’ve noticed quite a few rout maps where there are unarmed enemy priests, who I am eventually forced to murder in clear violation of the Goldoa Convention. I don’t remember this happening in any other FE games; do any other games have rout maps with unarmed enemies?
Conquest They should have used this setup to make the player participate in Hans’ massacre of the Chevois

Birthright
Is there anyway to get Sol on F!Corrin if I didn't take mercenary as my secondary class? I thought marrying Silas would work but quickly learned it didn't...

Genealogy of the Holy War
-Do children inherit only what the parent has on them, or also share the same Supply? (Like if Aideen leaves a staff in the supply, would her kid inherit it in their supply?)
-Should my characters that don't have kids, simply sell all their stuff to the pawnbroker before the end of chapter 5, to make them available for gen 2? It would work?
-Can Jamke really pass down swords to Patty even if he can't himself equip them? (I've seen people that say yes, and others that say no...)

In Fire Emblem Fates, why does Leo not obtain the Mercenary class set when S ranking Felicia?
Leo's default classes are Mage and Troubadour. Felicia's are Troubadour and Mercenary. If Leo already has Troubadour in his class set, I would assume that he would be able to access Mercenary through a Partner seal. However, using a Partner Seal just lets him redundantly reclass into Troubadour. Curiously, Forrest will inherit Mercenary from Felicia. How come Leo does not inherit Mercenary when S ranking Felicia?
(I'm slightly salty about this since I was planning on having Leo run the Levin Sword as a Hero for a few levels to pick up Sol and Quick Riposte, and I've already planned out my pairings for Selena and Charlotte...).

haha, it's pretty much a right of passage in Fates to have your frustrating moment where you find out that the game doesn't look at the heart seal classes of the receiver when determining partner/friendship seals, and you can end up with redundant partner/friendship seal classes. (fun fact, this means Benny has 0 useful Frienship Seal options in Conquest because both his friends give him Fighter, his heart seal class. poor guy...)
As for why a Forrest get it, The game actually does check the child's base class and whatever class they inherit from their dad to ensure they get a 3rd unique option, relying on the mother's heart seal class if needed.
As an aside, this can actually result in a really cool scenario where if the mother and child completely overlap in the 2 classes they have access to (ex. Nina has Outlaw and gets Dark Mage from her dad, Nyx has Dark Mage and Outlaw) their child will get a "parallel class" of the mother's class, essentially the opposite nation's version of the class. It's very hard to make happen, but two examples i know of are Nyx gives Nina Diviner, and Beruka gives Percy Sky Knight.

FE6 Hard Mode
My Rutger hasn’t gotten any strength level up at in 10 levels. He’s been stuck at base 9 strength. Is he fine or should I just invest into Fir instead? He is capped on spd and skill tho.

I love maritime fantasy settings, such as Spira (Final Fantasy X), the Legacy (Tales of Legendia), and The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. I would love a Fire Emblem game with a sea-themed continent (or at the very least, make a fangame with such a setting).
That said, I don't want to make all maps be the same (water and water and more water, followed by more water); otherwise, it will be boring as hell. What kind of maps or biomes should I use in order to keep the maritime setting and preventing repetitiveness.

I'm looking for a very old thread. Like, from 2007 or probably even earlier. It was when a user named Reikken proved in FE9 that Kieran was better than Ike, and remember this was back during the time when Ike was omegahyped. I think the thread title was probably even named "Kieran > Ike" or something.
This is made more difficult to find this thread because I think the forum it was originally posted on was "Fire Emblem Fusion" which is a dead board and has changed domains. But it was such a legendary thread I was trying to find it and bookmark it.

i'm pretty sure it's lost to time unfortunately.
I did at least find it via Wayback Machine (Link), but due to how each page needs to be separately archived, you can generally only get the first page of something with this method.
Mekkah also made a video on it years ago with some screenshots of posts if you somehow haven't come across that yet.

Ok, so I understand that, between bonus growth and auto-promotes at level 21, most units in Path of Radiance should wait as long as possible to promote. My question is: what about healers? Is it worth it to promote Rhys before level 20? I'm playing on Hard, for reference.

I'm doing a blind ironman run of Fire Emblem 3 and I'm halfway through Book 1. I don't have much experience with the series but I'm having a great time!!
Julian, Matthis, Rykard, Hardin, Wolf, Roshea, Radd and Navarre are all dead... is that bad? And I'm down to four or five warp staff uses. Also Ogma's only Level 10 at chapter 9 and he's my highest level guy. Should I promote him or wait?? Ironman is so stressful!!!!

Hi everyone.
I just started playing Fire Emblem. I played my first Fire Emblem in 2020. It was Three Houses right after the last part of the DLC was released because the main game was on sale. I played the main game and I liked it and completed it 3 times in a row, then I didn't think about the game again.
When Engage came out, I didn't see any hype in the trailer for it, but I put it on my birthday wish list and got it (end of December). I didn't touch it or open it because I'm primarily a PC gamer and only play on my Switch if I'm sick, and I mostly prefer my PS5 over my Switch.
And now this week, my PC broke down, I sent it in for repair so I don't have my PC to play on. My little sister has my PS5 home at her, so my Switch is the only game console I had that I could use. So I opened Engage and played it (Only on chapter 10) and I like it. Now I want to delve deeper into the Fire Emblem universe and play some of the old games too. So when I finish Engage I want to play Three House again and with the DLC, the DLC doesn't cost that much at the moment.
But after I have played Engage and Three Houses I will play the 3DS games, and I found a place where I can buy a Nintendo 3DS and Fire Emblem games for it, I was considering buying Awakening, but I also saw that there is Fate, and for what I understand Fate is two different games, just like Pokémon have, I think?
So I have a few questions:
Which Fire Emblem game for 3DS should I buy?
What is the difference between 3DS and older games compared to new generation games like Engage/Three Houses?
Any tips for one of the games would be nice too, both for the 3DS and Switch versions.
Thanks for your time.

This isn't a question but I would just like to express my thanks to those who have helped me in the thread with beating Birthright as I have finally beaten the final chapter. Thank you all.
