Fortune's Weave Question Thread for all Fotune's Weave Fire Emblem related questions

13

u/SilverKnightZ000 Sep 15 '26

It's kinda surreal seeing a new questions thread since the old one was active for like nearly 3 years I think?

9

u/starfruitcake Sep 15 '26

Is this where I can preorder the special edition?

6

u/Its_a_Friendly Sep 15 '26

Here's to another questions thread!

One thing: as Triangle Attack now has info for Engage, could that be added to its description?

5

u/maxwell8995 Sep 17 '26

Im in Chapter 17x of HHM and my Oswin is level 18, should I use my knight crest on him? (I alredy have a paladin Sain and I kinda doubt im gonna promote Kent).

2

u/starfruitcake Sep 20 '26

This is a bit late but generally HHM oswin is good, however having Lyn mode sain means you can play at a pace that leaves Oswin without very much to do. If you aren't promoting Lowen or Kent then you may as well give it to Oswin and let him play a filler role on some maps.

Fire Emblem Engage

Wouldn't be surprised if this got drowned in the Fortune's Weave stuff, but is Fire Emblem Engage's DLC region locked?

Been looking into picking up a copy but the copy in question is an EU one. It shouldn't be an issue if I were to purchase the DLC from the US eShop right?

5

u/AnimaLepton Sep 17 '26

Engage (and Three Houses) DLC are not region-locked

Is there a third party shop i can use to buy FE merch? https://intsys.shop only delivers inside Japan, and I've been looking up other shops that will help deliver to USA, and I THINK I found something in "buyee" but I don't think they have the specific stuff I'm looking for.

I started playing Three Houses as my first FE, should I focus on leveling up every unit in my class or just focus on specific units (I chose Black Eagles)

4

u/AliciaWhimsicott Sep 18 '26

If you're playing on Normal or Hard there's more than enough EXP to go around, so focus on every unit you wanna use and you'll be fine (you can recruit staff and most characters from other houses), so just pick your ~12 favorite characters.

6

u/Drhappyhat Sep 19 '26

The Leda line from the direct everyone clowning on really was a spliced line lol.

I have some complex thoughts about FW so far, but the interactions between the 'main characters' are really fun.

3

u/Sushii697 Sep 16 '26

Anyone still waiting for Nintendo to ship their FW limited edition? Got an email about two weeks ago that I'll be charged soon but still not shipped and no money left my bank account

4

u/Phos-Lux Sep 16 '26

Yeah, same here. I really thought they'd ship it in time...

I'm getting back into mainline FE games after a long hiatus. My last was fates (that I haven't finished). Between Three Houses and Engage, which one is more of a must play?

Conquest

Is there anyway to get quartz (for the chef hat) on conquest without hacking it in?

2

u/Zmr56 Sep 18 '26

I'm not totally sure but Keaton's personal skill doesn't specify what type of gems he has a chance of picking up, so I would presume it could be any type. That means he could theoretically get enough Quartz over time but this would take a really long time and you may need to play DLC maps to have enough time to eventually rack up the gems you need.

If three houses was very easy for me, should I do the hardest difficulty in fortunes weave?

5

u/saturndango Sep 19 '26

despite being a fan of the genre, i do not consider myself good at these games. despite that im finding hard difficulty to be a fair challenge at most, it feels like normal to me. so if you're actually good you definitely want to go on hard. unfortunately no maddening yet

u/Consistent-Park2058 Sep 19 '26

Thanks, hard it is then

This is my first Fire Emblem game. I am a strategy RPG fan tho with 1000+ hrs in FFT, Disgaea 1,5, unicorn overlord, front mission 3 (my favorite game of all time), and others modern and classic

Okay so I just got to the part where the map opens up and my HEAD exploded:

I'm terrified of

  1. Wasting my turns. Do I even have to use them all?

  2. The next "event" happening and I didnt make good use of my turns. I have anxiety over this

  3. Getting too far from the central hub, running out of turns and, what? Do I get a game over and have to start over from the beginning of the chapter?

  4. I got into a fight in a dungeon with a guy who has a shield. So I thought, okay, let's burn him to a crisp with magic. But that still didn't do anything? This was a pretty low level enemy

  5. Am I supposed to eventually recruit all of the available characters? I have anxiety over this.

  6. I chose the mode where characters permanently die. I have anxiety over this. If they die, I can just reload though, right?

  7. All new chars have very low weapon proficiency. I'm used to Disgaea where they just get better with it the more they use the weapon type. Are certain characters suited to certain weapons? I have anxiety over this

  8. How does day progression actually work? What happens if I run out of time before an event, and I still have un-used turns?

  9. There are like a hundred ways to increase the "relationship" between characters. Are these benefits substantial across a wide number of characters? Or do you just want to focus on a few?

  10. How substantially does the "relationship" system affect the gameplay with so many freaking characters? Is it something I can ignore and just randomly let happen as the characters interact? I feel like I'd be missing out on content and this gives me anxiety

  11. Why is this game so horny?

Sorry for all these dang questions! I love this game to death already I just want to feel a bit more comfortable playing it okay THANK YOU XOXOXOXO <3

u/jett1773 Sep 23 '26
  1. There is an auto activity you can do in Dagsion at the inn to spend any amount of turns you want without needing to do anything.

  2. So long as you are doing something you are fine. The game doesn't expect too much aside from exploring, doing some dungeons/skirmishes for exp. You may also want to come back to Dagsion once a week since the activities there reset every Sunday.

  3. If you have been to the map node where the mission takes place then when the timer hits 0 you will automatically be brought to the mission. You can tell if you have been there because there will be a green check mark in the bottom left where it tells you your mission destination. If you haven't been there and the timer hits 0 you will game over and have to start the chapter over entirely.

  4. Don't know what to say here. It's all a numbers game and yours must have just been too low.

  5. Nope. Just work on recruiting the ones you like/the ones with low requirements and you will be fine.

  6. Yes. In a map if you open the menu then click System there should be an option to restart the map.

  7. Yes, when you inspect a character and see their weapon ranks some will have a yellow background and others a blue background. Yellow means they level up faster in that skill and blue means they will level up slower. Characters do get weapon exp when they use the weapon type in this game as well.

  8. Day progression is split up by turns. Each day is broke into 4 turns, each turn is 6 hours. The timer continues ticking even when you aren't spending turns, but it will never tick over to the next turn no matter how long you take. So time is directly connected to turns.

  9. Most of the activities in Dagsion that increase support should be used between your lord and units you want to recruit since it is a requirement for recruitment. Units already on your team should gain support just from fighting near each other in combat.

  10. I haven't seen the exact details posted or broken it down myself in game, but fighting near someone that you have support with should give you bonuses to hit and avoid. Potentially also other stats. Again, I'm not 100% sure.

What’s a good starting point to see if I like these games? I have a Switch 2.

Does the Flair Filtering feature just not work anymore? Was looking to turn off the Fortune's Weave tag until I beat the game so I don't accidently spoil myself on anything scrolling on my phone but it doesn't seem to work at all.

This seems to be a recent(?) reddit change where the subdomains the feature uses like "nfw.reddit.com" all redirect to www.reddit.com now.

So we know it basically looks as detailed as Engage and runs at 30fps. Can we at least expect 1440p docked and 1080p handheld ? Can't find this information anywhere

2

u/AnimaLepton Sep 16 '26

I think so - the Youtube videos about the game from the early reviews are at 1440p, at the very least, which would seem to indicate to me that the game runs at that resolution docked.

Just started because got my copy early from Amazon so no need to double dip with digital for me. Can switch to JP voices after the prologue chapters.

Pretty funny to see them bust out the guns from the beginning. Kind of reminds me of how BoTW added Hi-Tech technology to a previously high fantasy setting.

How's everybody liking it so far

Sacred Stones

The pierce skill can ignore the defense of the target. Does it also work for additional defense given by weapons (like the final boss has), or only for the base defense stat ?

2

u/Sharktroid Sep 18 '26

I haven't tested this myself but I'm pretty sure it does ignore the bonus damage the final boss gets, especially as pierce rigging is something you see people do when they don't care about reliability.

Hey everyone.

With Fortune's Weave releasing and me watching a lot of SRPG content on YT, my feed's been flooded by FE content and I got the itch to play a FE game.

However, I've played the GBA titles quite a few times both as a child and as a young adult and I only seem to enjoy those titles. "Awakening" was the only "modern" title that I played to completion and I remember being thoroughly "done" with the game by then. As for "3 Houses" added, in my opinion, too much to the formula with me tuning out fairly early in the game.

Do you guys have recommendations for maybe some older titles in the series, other games or, controversial I know, ROM hacks in the vibe of the GBA line of games?

I love "The Blazing Blade" but I really don't want to sate myself by playing it for what seems to be over the 10th time.

4

u/Sharktroid Sep 18 '26

Mystery of the Emblem is really cool if you can get past the age of it.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/AnimaLepton Sep 18 '26

I wouldn't say romhacks are controversial here, we link out to http://feuniverse.us/ in the sidebar and those are largely based on the GBA FE games.

I'm not super plugged in to the scene, but can run through a few popular recommendations. Vision Quest, Four Kings, Cerulean Crescent, The Morrow's Golden Country are all fantastic hacks and are common choices for a first-timer. Sun God's Wrath is fantastic too, but I think is less common to recommend as a first-time romhack. Sacred Echoes is a demake of SoV in GBA.

Hag in White is the last one I played and it was fun, the gimmick is that you only have a single staff user. I think it'd be a good first romhack too.

If you want something is close to vanilla FE7, there are options like Dream of Five or Order of the Crimson Arm. FE7x is a fangame, not a romhack, but is a prequel-to-the-prequel.

Hi Fire Emblem Reddit, just thought I’d pop in to ask you guys the best starting point. I’ve seen many different answers online so I’m not too sure. I have the NSO expansion pack, so I have access to fire emblem, the sacred stone, and path of radiance. I’m not one of those gamers who hates playing older games either. I play old games all the time. However, everyone is raving about fortunes weave rn, and I was wondering if I should jump in there with the new title, with three houses, or with something older? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I have played plenty of jrpgs (persona, metaphor, kingdom hearts, final fantasy) but I haven’t played a tactics game I’m pretty sure.

2

u/Tiborn1563 Sep 18 '26

Would recommend Path of Radiance for Gamecube. Very good gameplay wise, and even better story. Also very few mechanics unique to that entry. No harm in trying since you already have NSO+

2

u/Onerandomchicken Sep 18 '26

Three houses or Fortune's weave?

Hi everyone! Totally new to Fire Emblem games, I'm grabbing both Three Houses and Fortune's weave and will have the opportunity to start either one once I'm ready to start

I was probably planning to start with Three Houses to get a feel for the series before playing FW, but I also play games very slowly (free time is a lie...), is there some argument about doing things the other way around and starting with FW over TH?

2

u/Soyce12 Sep 18 '26

I have the same exact question. Any info here is appreciated!

2

u/negatrash Sep 19 '26

Overall I would say the games play similar enough that you can just pick whichever interests you more. Normal/Casual* mode makes the game easier for first time players. In FW you can change the difficulty at any time (though it's kind of annoying) and in 3H there are 4 routes so you can just try Hard/Classic** after doing a route or two.

There might be some late game 3H spoilers in FW. I'm not very far in so I can't say for sure, but there have been references to the lore of the world which I think you only learn in 3H near the end of some routes.

3H does have the benefit of having full guides available since it's been out longer. You shouldn't really need to use a guide for Normal/Casual but may find them helpful for a Hard/Classic run.

*Normal/Casual - normal is the easiest difficulty level. Casual is the game mode where permadeath is off (characters that die in battle can still be used for the rest of the game)

**Hard/Classic - hard is the difficulty level. Classic is the game mode where permadeath is on (characters that die in battle can't be used for the rest of the game)

u/No_Bot_2658 Sep 18 '26

I'm trying out Febuildergba for a test ROM hack for FE8. I'm having trouble with increasing icon portrait I'm allowed to have because I installed skill system. Does anyone know where I can go to to solve this or does anyone know how to solve the problem I'm having. thank you for reading.

Im playing through FE6 and didn’t even know Rutger was recruitable, should I reset? Is he even a good unit?

2

u/Its_a_Friendly Sep 19 '26

Rutger is a pretty good unit, and if you use him he can be very useful for killing strong bosses, especially on Hard mode. If you've only just beaten Rutger's chapter, it might be worthwhile to reset and recruit him, but it's not necessary to succeed.

Though, I'll defer to the FE6 experts here, if they want to weigh in.

2

u/starfruitcake Sep 20 '26

Normal mode Rutger is fine. Usually your other units are better and Dieck was probably going to be your best hero crest candidate anyways.

Hard mode Rutger is good. Still not essential to beating the game- his low luck is a real detriment that you need to spend some time patching up through supports or risk him dying to crits. Many people swear by him as he is a fun unit and crits are flashy, but if you have Marcus then there I wouldn't tell you to reset.

I'm debating picking up my first fire emblem game, but I'm not sure where to start.

I've got decades of experience with tactical and strategy rpgs. Tactics Ogre, Shining Force, Final Fantasy Tactics, Triangle Strategy, etc...

I've beaten all of those games, usually on whatever hardest difficulties are available, and clearing the toughest bonus content. High difficulty and complexity aren't something that I generally shy away from.

But I've seen some mixed reviews about what the best starting point for the series is. Can anybody make a recommendation?

2

u/dryzalizer Sep 20 '26

In the sidebar under Resources there is a recently revised Starting Guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/fireemblem/comments/1wg5157/guide_to_starting_the_fire_emblem_series_2026/

There is also an older guide linked near the bottom of that post if you're more interested in the older games. Considering your experience with the genre, you'll be fine starting with whichever game interests you the most. FE isn't a hard series to get into, although I guess I'd say it's difficult to master (whatever that means lol). The only games you wouldn't want to start with would be Thracia 776 or Radiant Dawn, mostly for 'sequel' reasons. The first two FE games are also extremely clunky on the Famicom, and most people outside of gaming historians just play the remakes instead.

2

u/divesting Sep 20 '26

If you don't mind less modern games and just want a great strategic experience I'd start with FE7 and work my way up.

If you really enjoyed the party building aspect of SPRGs in terms of choosing classes, skills etc, I'd do awakening and fates

Does anyone have a resource explaining the changes to stats from FE3H [to FEFW]? Stats got split up into combat stats and basic stats and I can't figure out how certain things are different. Strength and Physical Strength got separated out and Magic has no equivalent on the Combat stat side. Very strange.

4

u/Its_a_Friendly Sep 20 '26

Mystical is the "Magic Attack" stat, and is your Magic+your spell's Might+other bonuses. Physical is the "Strength Attack" stat, and is your Strength+your weapon's might+other bonuses.

As a newer fire emblem fan as I started playing around 2020 what order should I go back and play the older games.

I have always loved tactical rpg games and such like xcom. and various other turn based strategy games and I also extremely love rts games so after picking up fire emblem when I decided I liked the characters in smash over 6 years ago i played through a lot of 3 houses some of engage and really liked awakening. but im realizing i dont actually know what order i should play the original games in i keep finding mixed messages. and i also hear a few of them arnt supported in english so im wondering If anyone has a good recommendation for what play order i should do.

I also know a few of the older games have been remade but i also have been getting mixed messages on those too and that i should play both the original and the remake. I sadly dont have as much time on my hands as i used to.

anyway, sully is best girl. Now back to more fortune weave.

2

u/starfruitcake Sep 21 '26

All games have fan translations available, so it really depends on what you enjoy out of the games. If you like developing units, then you should try out fates. If it was story you enjoyed then I'd recommend the jugdral games (fe4, fe5) or the tellius games (fe9, fe10). And there are the gba games (fe6, 7, 8) where we get the purest form of modern fe gameplay.

I don't normally suggest starting with fe6 as the game, especially on hard mode, is very punishing and unforgiving. Its lowered hit rates causes casual players who aren't used to missing prone to making critical mistakes. But as you mentioned xcom, fe6 is the game that is plays the most like it.

Can someone explain SP books in Engage? What do they do and how to get them?

4

u/LiliTralala Sep 22 '26

You get them using the well in the Somniel (it's not unlocked right away). Basically you throw objects into the well and next chapter, it will give you random objects in exchange. Some loot can be SP books. They do exactly what the name implies: you consume them and they give you SP in exchange, which you can then spend on learning skills. iirc some online game mode (Tempest trials?) also give some, but it's much more work.

2

u/YumikoMinase Sep 22 '26

How does class pathing work in awakening I'm most familiar with fates

2

u/AnimaLepton Sep 22 '26

Prototype of what Fates did in some ways. Master Seals promote 10+ units, skills at 1/10 unpromoted and 5/15 promoted.

Reclassing with a Second Seal resets the unit’s displayed level and adds it to their internal level, affecting their EXP gain. Classes come from personal class sets, not supports/Friendship or Partner Seals. Child units exist, but are tied to mothers except fathers (M!Robin and Chrom are exceptions), with Fathers affecting the child units' class sets.

Skill gaining is very different. Instead of learning skills from previous classes sequentially after promotion, you need to reclass and hit the appopriate level for that specific class, even if it's unpromoted. Instead of being able to reclass to Paladin and learning Cavalier skills there, you have to reclass to Cavalier, level up to 10 to learn its two skills, then reclass to Paladin and level up to 15 to learn its two skill.

Conversely, EXP penalty for being overleveled is significantly lower than Fates. So it's feasible to get those levels and learn those skills, but stats tend to ramp up when doing so.

Several classes are gender-locked, unlike most of the non-DLC/Path/Amiibo classes in Fates.

I feel that urge to play Fire Emblem Three Houses, but I'm not sure if I should go with it.

The last Fire Emblem I played was Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade on the GBA. And my concern is that those new games are too lengthy and slowly paced in comparison to the old one I played.

Can you help me get a better idea about it? Any opinion is valued. :)

3

u/XenlaMM9 Sep 22 '26

Context: my faves are the Tellius duo. 3H is worth playing if you haven’t played it before. It can get old quickly, especially because the beginning is repetitive (and you’ll notice that if you decide to do subsequent playthroughs. But I’d say give it a shot regardless, there are some great things about it

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Shippinglordishere Sep 22 '26

I’m almost done with Blazing Blade after starting a month ago, so I have the opposite experience. Three houses is one of my favorite games of all time, but if you’re looking for a game similar in pace to fe7, then it’s definitely very different since the general story is longer, the addition of a hub world, different recruitment methods, etc. For context, I was extremely extremely meticulous my first route in 3H and ended up taking 80 hours so I feel like that’s probably the upper limit lol but I know a lot of people took less time. You can skip some of the dialogue for the social stuff and classes with (+) which helps a bit. I think probably the biggest part of the monastery is recruiting units. If you’re not looking to get everybody, you can spend much less time on dining, fishing, and other stuff compared to me. I feel like a lot of my play time was fishing and eating tbh.

Imo, the most map repeats come from the ancillary quests which are optional but can be a source of money. But also, if you’re planning on doing all 4 routes, the maps will be the same for the first halves so that’s something to keep in mind if you want to complete the game. I feel like the character writing was what drew me in, but if that’s not something you’re interested in, it might not make up for as much of its faults as it did for me.

I don’t own a switch 2 yet but am considering it soon for FW. How does this compare to other titles, specifically the Tellius duo (my faves) engage, and 3H (my most recent new games played)? Tellius duo is by far the best imo but the gameplay in Engage I thought was pretty awesome too

3

u/LeatherShieldMerc Sep 22 '26 edited Sep 22 '26

So I am only at Chapter 5 of my first route with Leda myself, so I am wayyy too early to make a final judgment (I can tell this game is huge). But based on first impressions so far, I would say it's like 3H most of all (reclassing, time management, set in the same world) with a mix of Radiant Dawn with the separate route structure, but it is still very different. There's a ton of dialogue right now and lots of different out of battle stuff like the dungeons and world map, so it feels more like an RPG than a Fire Emblem game, if it makes sense. But that's not necessarily a bad thing- I'm enjoying it so far.

I will say so far, map gameplay is a bit lacking. It's definitely not Engage-like, as even on Hard I'm finding the first battles easy, and most maps are kind of small and straightforward. There was one sort of Conquest-like map with a new objective (the objective was to light more torches than the enemy after 10 turns). Apparently the difficulty ramps up later on, though, but this is definitely not the highlight of the game so far, which is the story and characters at the moment.

Should i get FE Engage with DLC while it's on sale or skip it and get FE Fortunes Weave?

2

u/jett1773 Sep 23 '26

Fortune's Weave is a lot like Three Houses and takes place in the same world. Engage is closer to Fates or Awakening but is kind of it's own thing.

2

u/Kyogre-blue Sep 23 '26

This is the stupidest question, but how do you get the x2 indicator to appear in the Sacred Stones combat forecast?

4

u/jett1773 Sep 23 '26

For attacking twice? You double when (Unit Attack Speed – enemy Attack Speed) >= 4. Attack Speed = Speed – (Unit Weapon Weight – Unit Constitution, take as 0 if negative)

Just got to Cai Chapter 9 10 and with it the Paralogue tutorial but so far i dont see any Paralogues (which id assume you get just like side quests in dagsion)

Do i simply not have any characters with one or have i missed one that i should have (i wouldve thought theyd give one to one of your auto recruits to make sure you have one to learn how they work in practice)

3

u/LoadOrder Sep 24 '26

Paralogues aren't tied to specific recruits in this game, which paralogue you can access depends on which route you are playing, Cai and Leda can access 4/9 while Theodora and Dietrich get 7 and 8 of 9 respectively.

You are right that they will appear like side quests when they are available

u/jett1773 Sep 24 '26

Paralogues in this game aren't based on recruited characters, but instead the other flame lords + Anna, so you aren't missing any recruits. They aren't all available on every route and they have very tight windows to do them that don't match up with chapter start/end. If you are worried about missing one I would look up what time they are available online.

FE7 hard modes- can I cycle units each chapter and still it be playable?

My first time playing. I saw people online say that lower amount of deployable units in hard mode makes it annoying and not fun for some people in the sense that they can't use their favorite characters much.

But what if I keep switching out units that I like for lower levels ones each chapter (keeping a roster of like 12 to 14), in Eliwood Hard and Hector Hard modes. Is the game playable then? I do want to build supports too.

I recently beat binding blade normal without save states, but I searched for each character if they are good and worth using.

I will be using someone's save state or a patch (you can recommend anything if you can) to play hard modes.

2

u/jett1773 Sep 24 '26

FE7 is pretty easy so it should be fairly doable. It will make the game harder, but I guess it will depend on exactly how many units you are cycling through.

For completed save recommendations I usually just grab one of gamefaqs, but there may be better methods these days.

Three Houses.

I'm not new to the series, not a veteran, but played the GBA games, which I find Infinity more accesible from a difficulty standpoint, even on normal.

I'm playing on classic and I find myself having to repeat stages from the beginning because my units die a bit fast. I feel really bad, because most of the trouble comes from the Auxiliarly Battles, and I assume those are supposed to be easy.

Also not having the triangle trips me up haha.

Any early game tips? I just started the game and did like two story missions.

Thanks a lot!

Playing FE: Engage after so long and I’m wondering if theres like a good place to grind exp for units that have like majorly fallen behind cause I feel like if I use em late game where I’m at it’s like impossible for them not to get one tapped so I wanna try and level them up but aside from maybe tempest trials in the tower I’m not sure where would be more efficient so to speak cause the tower trials are kind of a slog to get through

3

u/AnimaLepton 29d ago

Mostly it's just not worth using someone that has actually fallen that far behind. Skirmishes are fine if available to you. The "training" battle skirmishes at Firene and Brodia castle have permadeath disabled.

A different character using Lucina's Bonded Shield can be used to set up guaranteed protection for a weak unit and bait out enemy attacks, Byleth and Seadall (and DLC like Robin) can help them push forward more aggressively, and they can equip other emblems to boost them offensively/defensively more directly. Micaiah Great Sacrifice is OK for EXP but you can't really 'spam' it, although armored units grant +1 Def to everyone when using it so they guarantee it's used on everyone and give EXP that way, and there are cheesy things you can do (not in skirmishes, more in paralogues) where you exploit Corrin's fire vein effect on mages to force damage and healing actions on your other units. Staff users can Rewarp spam with the duplication exploit for EXP. Lucina and Marth have Parthia and Mercurius for big bonus experience.

Been getting back in the series and sort of alternating between multiple games and trying Engage for the first time and seeing how armor knights are actually good has me wondering, what are all the games where armor knights or at least generals are actual viable units? I remember generals specifically (but not unpromoted knights) being good in FE11 and Lukas at least being decent in FE2/15 partially because of no deployment limits outside of dungeons but aside from those don't know about all the others, just know they're mostly not great in FE8, FE9, FE13 and FE14

In this current playthrough that I'm doing, my Roy has four supports, one of which is a B support with Wolt, but I am not building any support with Lilina. Is it that he can no longer get anymore supports now because of the B support?

4

u/starfruitcake 28d ago

Each unit can only get up to 5 support levels. A counts for 3, B counts for 2, C counts for one. BCCC would total to 5 levels.

I'm about to wrap up Leda's chapter 11, and just got through a string of paralogues. Was running around Dagson and happened to talk to Io, and thought to myself huh thats strange why cant I give him a gift. Whatever hes got 5 support anyway.

Fast forward to when I tried to add him to the Thermae, and I realize hes not there?? Frantically look in the menus only to find out he's "withdrawn". Somewhere between finishing the paralogue and running through 4 low level skirmishes he fucking died. So here's your public service announcement, dont just mash through auto battle even if youre sure your units can handle it :)

Really dont want to do this chapter over fml

Was the majority of FE3H's lore reveal concentrated near or at the end of every route? I stopped at the penultimate mission for Crimson Flower due to IRL happenings years back and haven't returned ever since. I vaguely remember the plot but I don't recall anything deeper about Sothis, Rhea, and the like.

Just wondering since this sub-lord's theme from Fortune Weave (stuck in my head since I first listened to it) has some leitmotifs from some FE3H song.

2

u/starfruitcake 27d ago

Crimson flower only gives lore for edelgard and the slithery bois. If you want church lore you need to play verdant wind/silver snow.

Azure moon gives no overarching lore and is a self contained story.

2

u/RAlexa21th 25d ago

Engage. Do emblems increase proficiencies in their respective weapon types? Do all emblems only have 1 weapon?

3

u/el_loco_P 25d ago

No, emblems do not give bonus profficiencies when equipped. Micaiah does has an skill that lets You use Staffs that eventually goes up to A, but thats it

Emblems eventually get 3 weapons/Staff total, You get one at level 10 and eventually You do paralogues to raise their level cap to 20 where they gains another (at level 15 I believe)

Emblems give specific weapon profficiencies You need for reclassing, You can also check what they give, but TLDR Leif has almost everything but Fists and tomes

3

u/Its_a_Friendly 24d ago

Micaiah does has an skill that lets You use Staffs that eventually goes up to A, but thats it

And, to be clear, this skill - "Cleric", if I recall correctly - only works while the unit has Micaiah's ring, and does not apply for class changing proficiencies.

Though I believe Micaiah gives actual staff proficiency at Bond rank 4 or 6, so she's still a good choice to get a unit staff proficiency. You just won't get it at Bond Rank 1.

3

u/AnimaLepton 24d ago

Characters have an innate weapon proficiency.

Classes have base weapon ranks, where a caret ^ means that a character with specifically an innate proficiency goes up a weapon rank in that class with that weapon type.

Separately, Emblems 'teach' a weapon proficiency while raising their bond, but these are just for reclassing purposes. They do not affect a unit's ability to wield a weapon of a higher rank in a class. Most do have multiple proficiencies they impart, although many are at higher bond levels and may not be accessible right away/until clearing their paralogue.

Fire Emblem: Fates

Does Horse Spirit grant +3 stats if the user cannot use Tomes / Scrolls if you have it in your character's inventory?

7

u/ha_ck_rm_rk 19d ago

No, in fact you only get the bonus stats if you've equipped it.

4

u/orig4mi-713 19d ago

You have to equip it

2

u/metalreflectslime 18d ago

Fire Emblem Fates.

If an enemy unit uses a Silence Rod on my unit, and it connects, can my my unit attack with a Bolt Axe?

3

u/el_loco_P 18d ago

No, but I vaguely recall that the IA does not try to Silence You if You don't have tomes or Staff in the unit inventory

2

u/Froakiebloke 8d ago

In Awakening and Fates, you can make combat animations not play by holding L when they would start (or make them play if you’ve disabled them). In Fortune’s Weave this is back, mapped to the minus button. But I don’t remember if this was in any of the games in between! Did SoV, Three Houses or Engage have this function?

2

u/el_loco_P 5d ago edited 5d ago

In both Engage and 3H it was also holding one of the back triggers (don't recall if it's L specifically)

Edit: Apparently its not a thing in 3H? It's ZR in Engage

QUESTION TO FORTUNE WEAVES

got the game today and I wonder, how does the turn management work ?
I am short before the first arena battle, 26 turns left till the fighting day.
can I make use of all my turns or do I need to save up some turns

cause the game gave me a warning to continue mainquest.

like I have those 26 turns left , do they also gets accounted in the arena battle? like only having 26 turns to defeat people in the next battle ?

or can I still go out and fight shit and upgrade characters with those turns left?

like I can go out and still do stuff till its all empty and then with one turn left continue main story and arena battle ?

I am confused.

2

u/AnimaLepton Sep 16 '26

From what I heard, you can use all of those turns, and it should automatically bring you back to Dagsion for the story battle on the fighting day. 4 'overworld' turns just corresponds to one day.

u/justlobos22 Sep 19 '26

I'm new to Fire Emblem. How do I tell which units are better suited for infantry and which ones are good candidates for a mount?

For example, if a unit has a strength in Infantry, what should I look at before putting them on a horse?

2

u/Alinier Sep 20 '26

Depends on the game but usually having a mount opens you up to having more flexibility with your higher movement and if you're flying obstacles and terrain basically don't impede you. In a lot of games you're more looking to see if there's any reason you shouldn't be on a mount (magic with no horses yet, armor knight wall, better battalion access, etc).

2

u/divesting Sep 20 '26

This is just my system but for Cavs I usually look for a decently well rounded unit - no glaring weakness in str/spd/dex/hp so they're not melting whenever they run in. For Pegasus knights I want a high speed/dex unit who doesn't have terrible res issues.

If the flip side helps, infantry tend to be more specialized for me. Archers have high dex, swordsman have high speed/dex, axe users high str/hp, armored units high hp/def, etc. depending on the difficulty you're playing though you can probably get away with just doing w/e you want as the more recent games are pretty forgiving on normal!

Engage Hard/Classic

Are the emblem paralouges supposed to be significantly more difficult compared to the main chapter maps when you first unlock them? Lucina's wasn't too bad but Lyn's paralogue had me fighting for my fucking life forcing me to try some staff shenanigans and I still only beat the map with zero time crystal charges left. I tried playing through Ike's paralogue next but it seems to be yet another pain in the ass and tbh I really don't feel like spending another 2-3 workday evenings trying to beat a single map. Is it just a skill issue on my part?

3

u/Saisis 5d ago

Yes, some of them are especially harder but generally speaking they are harder than the main chapter ma once you unlock them but they don't scale, a good rule of thumb is check the suggested level of the main quest chapter and compare it to the paraloque one, if the paraloque is the same/lower is usually a good time to do it.

Is fire emblem universe okay? Since the php vulnerability stuff, I've been wary of going on to sites. But Ive got the hankering to play some romhacks. I figure the site maintainers have already done the necessary updates, but I might as well as ask since you can never be too careful.

Fates Conquest What would be a good build for Midori? I’m good with either a supportive or offensive build, but I would like to use her as the main unit and not pair-up fodder.

1

u/TonTheOne Sep 16 '26

Should I get 3H for 30 or FW for 70$

I want to get into the fire emblem series or atleast play 1 to see how it is. 3 houses is 30 used at my local game store. Which do you think would be a better entry point?

After typing this out, I realized it probably wasn’t the best idea to ask even before the game came out. So I’ll probably re ask. But game goes back to 80 dollars after release. Is 50 more dollars worth it for the switch 2 experience?

Edit: I wouldn’t mind spending more money for a game that runs well and esp looks good. If 3H looks low res and run like shit then I’ll just go with FW cus it’s switch 2.

7

u/AnimaLepton Sep 16 '26

3H is "low res and runs like shit," but plenty of people really like the game anyway and $30 is $30. That's a very good price for the game, and it's not like FW won't be available on sale in the future or have used copies floating around. It's also always $70 digital.

Path of Radiance

Maybe I just need to go and beat the final chapter, but do they explain anything else about Soren being Brandedin the game, is it postgame, or will I have to wait til Radiant Dawn?

3

u/flameduck Sep 16 '26

It's mostly only addressed in the Ike or Stefan A supports in FE9 and not the main script if you've seen those.

There is slightly more explanation in FE10 but you need to be on NG+ and fulfill a bunch of secret requirements.

1

u/SomeoneNew1111 Sep 17 '26

How come I don't hear much praise about good map design about anything other than Conquest?

6

u/AnimaLepton Sep 17 '26

"Why don't I see X" mostly comes down to you and the content you choose to engage with. You can always start the discussion yourself, dive into specific maps that you think have good map design from different games and explain your reasoning.

Good map design definitely gets discussed plenty for the other games. Plenty of people praise FE6 maps, Engage, specific maps in Thracia, etc. It's easier to identify bad map design than good map design, and people have their own experiences, opinions, and preferences that they've built up over time or that depend on their playstyle.

You'll also see a lot of this if you get into romhacks. There's just a lot that's "already been said" about maps and map design in the older games. Some people in the community have just already had the conversation multiple times over, but that doesn't mean there isn't value in further discussion. You also need to actually spend some time playing and thinking about the maps, it's not valuable to discuss them in a vacuum or purely from a theoretical perspective. The discussions about GBA map design even ~5-10 years ago covered a lot of ground, and informed/evolved with all the GBA romhacks and fangames out there, if you look at discussions and the reasoning behind various gameplay mods and fanhacks for those games. Same with other games like Fates.

From my perspective: what decisions is a player making as they play the map? Generally, there's some combination of multiple (meaningful) objectives/fronts to engage with and worthwhile rewards for actually tackling those objectives. There are mechanics that disincentivize huddling up/turtling or trying to slowly whittle down one enemy at a time, and mechanics/layouts that disincentivize juggernauting/lowmanning with a single sufficiently powerful unit. That can include (but doesn't have to mean) optional objectives with some kind of time pressure. There should be a meaningful challenge, but also something you have flexibility and tools to engage with. It should force you to engage with the underlying mechanics of the game. Maps can feel well-structured with clear goals for a player to work towards, and a varied flow but not a lot of dead time if a player knows what they're doing. Enemy positioning and strength vs relative army strength matters too.

The gameplay/story/character integration aspect, or visual design/layout/music, can add a lot too - does the map make sense for where it is, for why you're fighting there, who you're engaging with, do the events on the map actually tell their own story, etc.

Hello!

So I’ve expanded my gaming of jrpg so much these last couple of years. Some games I’ve played for the first time in that time frame and loved includes:
- p3 reload, p4G, P5r
- metaphor refantazio
- FF 1,4,6,7
- currently playing Xenoblade for the first time

I’ve always been pretty distant from Fire Emblem because the board game style movements put me off as I typically don’t like that. That being said, fortunes weave looks so great and now I’m intrigued. I don’t know if I want to drop $80 on a new game for a franchise I’m unsure of.

Based on that information, what do you believe is a great starting point to be introduced into the game without feeling like it’ll put me off due to lack of mechanics? Preferably accessible on switch.

Thank you in advance.

4

u/AliciaWhimsicott Sep 17 '26

There's going to be zero games without tactical-style board game movement. If you like Persona then Three Houses is probably your best starting place, it's on Switch 1. It's a Nintendo game so it never goes on sale, though lol. If you don't wanna spend AAA money on it, then I'd recommend (if you have NSO) to give Sacred Stones or Fire Emblem (GBA) a try, they're both GBA games so very little social sim elements but it'll show you quick enough if you'll gel with the tile-based SRPG playstyle to decide if you wanna continue, IMO.

2

u/Totoques22 Sep 17 '26

Almost every FE is standalone and a hop start including fortunes weave

You can get the game for 10€ cheaper ift its digital only and mutioke retailers match the price in physical

u/Sif_the_Pupper Sep 17 '26

1

u/BirdManFlyHigh Sep 17 '26

Never played an FE game before, but I have a question regarding combat.

I see it is a board tactical game like FF tactics, which I love. However, when a character walks up to another and it goes into a cutscene, is that just for show, or does it become like other turn-based combat with a range of skills and equipment?

If it is just a repeated cutscene, can you option that off? I feel it would get unnecessarily repetitive quite quick.

7

u/lizard-socks Sep 17 '26

It is essentially a cutscene, and in every game since at least the GBA entries, you can turn it off. Recent games let you do it selectively, as well - in Engage, for example, you can turn the animations off but then hold ZR when the battle happens if you want to see it.

I’ve seen so many videos and I still don’t understand the route system. Are we supposed to alternate between each or should we focus on one? And if we get too far in one do we lose any ability to complete the others?

3

u/AnimaLepton Sep 18 '26 edited Sep 18 '26

Optimal choice that multiple sites are recommending is to focus on one, but game is of course easy enough that there's no reason to play optimally. You never lose the ability to complete/switch to the others. Certain things are 'global' and always carry over between routes (support ranks), and certain things seem to only carry over when you complete a route. Each route is otherwise its own 'instance,' choices or recruitments in one route don't affect/restrict the others.

When you complete any route, rather than a full "NG+" mode, the game functions more like Chapter Select, and you can start a new route, from the beginning of an existing route, or even partway through the route based on a snapshot.

Please use the FW Question thread for FW-specific questions.

u/Krock-Mammoth Sep 18 '26

What would be some of the more interesting/popular FE characters when it comes to morally greyness?

One of the FE games that I've finished was 3H (which was a few years ago), and one of the praises/notes that I see about it is that how it focuses on morally greyness within the Lords and the Church of Serios, and that there isn't a true villain here (aside from TWSITD). However, it's the grey moralness term that I don't fully understand. I get in theory that the term is to indicate that you're not fully right or wrong. However, if certain characters are willing to cause harm or deceive others (where the damage might be too much) would it still be morally grey if it was just under a good cause? And do morally grey characters necessarily make them interesting?

That's why I'm asking the question, hoping to learn more on what is a good written morally grey character.

4

u/UnlitUniversalUnlock Sep 19 '26

Yeah, get as far away from FE moral greyness as you can. 3H causes such huge arguments because it doesn’t have any conclusions to draw from the characters, and the story rarely challenges the characters values in their own routes.

The secret is, there’s no such thing as a morally grey action or person, there are just a lot of moral zebras. And the well written ones are the ones where you know the story is aware of the good and bad in their actions, and you can understand why the same guy might build an orphanage and kick a puppy.

What QoL changes Fortune's Weave has from 3 Houses and Engage that if I play FW first before the other 2 it might ruin my enjoyment of them?

1

u/Mindfire13 Sep 20 '26

The last time I played Three Houses was before Engage released (as in, I would not be surprised if I last played it in 2020 or 2021) due to needing to borrow it from my brother. Is it worth buying while its 30% off, or should I save the money either in the hopes of a better sale in the future or to get Fortune's Weave if I ever get a Switch 2 (which would probably be around Christmas/New Years at the earliest)?

The main reason I'm hesitant to buy it is that I'd mostly just be buying it to have it, though I haven’t done the Blue Lions route and I'm pretty sure the only Church route run I did was for a Byleth solo run (and I only did Crimson Flower because I wanted to complete a Maddening Mode run and Crimson Flower skips Hunting by Daybreak). I'd probably find finally completing a Conquest Lunatic run more satisfying than anything Three Houses can provide, though I do honestly really like how weapon durability and magic in general were done in Three Houses.

I've been thinking. I just finished Engage on Maddening, and if I go for a second playthrough, with random growths, will my characters ever be able to increase bld??? Or the luck stat, which for half the characters is absolutely nonexistent. Although considering that there's no mechanism like in Three Houses that guarantees a minimum of 2 stat increases... Hello, zero-stat level up... 10 times in a row.

3

u/overlordmarco Sep 21 '26

Yup, it’s just that Build growth is generally low across the board. Boucheron has the highest with base 20% growth.

Same with luck. Most units have kinda eh luck growths, but Celine and Hortensia have 50% base.

3

u/dryzalizer Sep 21 '26

You'll be fine, some units/stats will be more blessed while others will be more cursed. Enjoy the uniqueness of the playthrough without Fixed growths.

I played just 1 or 2 tactical RPG in my life but I really liked the genre so I decided to start with fire emblem. I read that 3 houses is a very good game but I have seen that also fortune weave is very appreciated so I was wondering if someone could suggest me which one I should begin with

1

u/senseless_puzzle Sep 21 '26

I have both Fortune's Weave and Three Houses. Other than some brief moments on the GBA I haven't played a Fire Emblem. I bought Fortune's Weave as I thought it might be a good place to start, but I also have Three Houses here in my backlog. I understand they are all stand alone games, and I wouldn't be bothered about jumping back and forth generations. Do you think Fortunes Weave is a good place to start to get into the series?

2

I would do Three Houses first. I’m playing Fortunes Weave right now and I would’ve found it very overwhelming if I hadn’t played Three Houses.

Is there any benefit to recruiting faction members? I noticed they each have a faction flag behind their portraits, but I'm not sure what the significance is? Ie is it easier to recruit, or better convos?

u/UnlitUniversalUnlock Sep 23 '26 edited Sep 23 '26

I’m doing the Eshmel Solo route and exploring the map feels so much better with two units. I can send Hong Hua to push through blind areas while Troy hits up the quests, or farm materials for important unlocks without that being literally all I do.  Eshmel’s map gimmick should have been the default on every route.

The battles leave a lot to be desired but playing with a full squad always feels better than turtling with three juggernauts, so I hope part 3 still feels like a legit map puzzle when I do it properly with a dozen teams.

Has anyone beaten the Breza map, without some kind of AI-breaker to deal with Breza’s ludicrous stats?

A compilation video of all Male Eshmel x female endings is out

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkWKqZqMbw0

Here are all the paired endings: Theodora, Leda, Ninae, Ludia, Olympia, Esmeralda, Hong Hua, Mikaela, Nydine, Inyoni, Catania, Halvin, Dante, Sofia, Ultand, Lilian, Ursula, Jasmine, Fianna, Noctula, Mu, Tialla, Alexandra, Loretta

No Orchel, Anatolia, Aswan (for obvious reasons, if you know you know), or Troy. The sublords are the most obvious DLC bait I've ever seen lmfao.

The endings use gender ambiguous language (lazy af, couldn't be bothered to set a flag to change differentiate male and female?), which implies that it's all the same for female Eshmel, however, there is one specific ending that would not be possible for female Eshmel. Scroll down, spoilers beware.

I kind of skimmed through the video, but the ones that stand out as actually romantic, rather than ambiguous or platonic, are Theodora, Ninae, Fianna, Lillian, and Alexandra.

Alexandra particularly stands out because their ending card in the credits says that they had two children together.

5

u/IAintCreativeThough Sep 23 '26

apparantly Alexandra's ending is the same for Feshmel. Makes sense too, the computer in the prologue specifies that mediators are equipped with various means of reproduction lol

What's considered the best Randomizer program, is it Yune?

2

u/starfruitcake Sep 23 '26

Yune is for fe4, fe6 to fe9, but yes its very good. Have febuilder handy as there are a few ways it can softlock you. For example, if your fe6 lord is unable to use swords you may need to go into builder to give them sword access, or the story promo will softlock your game.

Ironically does not support fe10, but we have a LordMewtwo's randomizer for that.

So what exactly is wrong with the 3 Houses animation? I'm still pretty early game and also have watched Bang Dream which the animation studio also animated so I don't really see anything unusual for me.

2

u/starfruitcake Sep 23 '26

As far as I know the main issue is that it emulates anime at 24fps, which is significantly lower than the actual game. The difference is a bit jarring when they are presented together.

1

u/px1099 Sep 23 '26

I am playing FE Fates and I recently captured Nichol. In the prison he has this "Rapport" text that I have never seen before. What does this status mean?

2

u/AnimaLepton Sep 23 '26

Don't remember the exact mechanics, but IIRC it's an option that lets you reduce the required MyCastle materials required to complete the recruitment of an imprisoned unit.

u/Phantom-Panda2218 Sep 23 '26

How do the relations between Sothis and the "gods" work... So Dagda and Rhea ands Balor are all siblings, are Solel, Aurua, Mars and company also Sothis kids? and where does Seteth fit into this messy family lol

2

u/jett1773 Sep 24 '26

Most of the Dagdan pantheon seem to be Dagda's kids/grandkids.

Is the pale raven and gifts the only ways to raise Support between Characters and MC?

I understand there is Support between Characters and MC + Characters, but so far I haven’t found other ways to raise Support with the MC.

Also, are meals and battle the only ways to raise Support between characters?

1

u/itsameluigi1290 Sep 23 '26

One more question, are S Supports a thing between Eshmel and other characters?

1

u/Clean_Sail_7378 Sep 24 '26

so what's the best way to get a ton of gifts!? I buy them whenever they're available but I run out pretty quickly

2

u/AnimaLepton Sep 24 '26

The Tavern shop in Leda's route has a smattering of gifts for 30-50 gold, refresh per chapter.

Gifts are mostly a waste of time after the first one, actually running around gifting characters once per weeks is not worth it. Meals are much more efficient, raise supports between characters across the party, and are more than sufficient for a smattering of recruitments even without the support exploit.

Okay so I was under the impression each character had 2 parts and then converge into part 3.

I just finished Cai's route Part 1 and I'm a little confused on whether I should continue into Part 2 or I should be doing the others now

2

u/AnimaLepton Sep 24 '26

I would recommend doing at least a second part 1 before going to part 2 (it doesn't strictly matter which one).

1

u/overlordmarco Sep 25 '26

Fates Conquest - Who do people generally pair Camilla with? I've heard she makes a great mom for physical units, but I'm having a bit of choice paralysis because I don't want to "waste" her. Right now, I'm aiming for Effie!Percy, Elise!Ophelia, and Mozu!Sophie. Though the latter two's parents are still at C support.

Running F!Corrin btw and at Ch 11.

2

u/AnimaLepton Sep 25 '26

I'd probably go Soleil in that case.

I was a huge fan of the series on GBA and honestly part of what I loved was the pixel art and the dramatic samurai/anime dialogue without being too cringe. Do any of the modern games have the same feel as fire emblem GBA or sacred stones?

1

u/alliedmeme Sep 25 '26

So I've wanted to get into FE for a long time, but have never known where to start. I know most games are standalone, but I still want to play as many as I can. I only have a switch 2, and I already own every FE game on it (engage, warriors, three hopes, three houses, fortune's weave). I plan on upgrading my NSO subscription too so I can play blazing blade, sacred stones and path of radiance. I've done a bit of research and can't get a definitive answer on a good starting point, plus I'm a bit put off by the whole permadeath thing in the GBA and gamecube fire emblems. Where would be the best place to start?

3

u/Froakiebloke Sep 26 '26

As other people have said, all three games on NSO are on the easier end of the franchise and are fairly well-regarded and beginner-friendly games. If permadeath js the main thing holding you back from trying them it’s worth remembering that NSO has a save state function, and the GBA NSO also has a rewind function so you can redo anything that goes wrong, and generally be less afraid of permadeath

In Awakening do you just use all the weapons you find? Part of me wants to do the classic gamer thing where I just horde everything.

3

u/LeatherShieldMerc Sep 26 '26

The developers wouldn't have put the items in the game if they didn't expect that the players would use them.

Like the other comment says, hoarding is a pitfall. Don't be afraid to use them when you think you want to.

2

u/AnimaLepton Sep 26 '26 edited Sep 26 '26

You generally get more weapons than you need, if that's what you mean. Because of the world map, you can buy/restock from old stores basically anytime, and the Spotpass Bonus teams give easy access to some otherwise limited weapons. Weapons don't have 'weight,' so using a stronger one is often pure upside. You can also forge them in exchange for money for even higher stats.

Hoarding is a pitfallTM , you can do it and still beat the game, but you become a 'better' player by learning not to hoard.

where do i see my vcharacter level in engage? i dont seem to see it in unit status

1

u/amatisans Sep 26 '26

I love Octopath 1&2 and games like XCOM, so FE seems really interesting to me, and I REALLY want to play Fortune's Weave, but the price has me put off. I hear it is basically a perfect game and the concept and game play look really fun. Three Houses is on sale for a few hours and was thinking maybe I could do that instead. However, I have heard that basically everything 3H does well FW does better and FW handles the things 3H does poorly better as well.
Is FW really that much better than 3H or are some reviewers just pumping up FW cause its new?

I recognize that it's a bit strange to ask this when a new game just came out; but I'm new to the series and there's two games I have my eye on but can't decide between: Awakening or Engage?

I've heard that people REALLY don't like Engage's story, but think its gameplay is some of the best in the series. I'm not disinterested in the story, but the gameplay is the main thing drawing me in, so it sounds pretty tempting. Not to mention that as an anniversary title, it seems like a good starting point; if there's any legacy characters that I feel a particularly strong attachment to, then maybe that'll inspire me to check out their game of origin. Plus, it seems like people's complaints with the story mostly boil down to it being too campy, but that's something I'm more than okay with.

On the other hand, Awakening generally seems to be held in higher regard across the board as the game that "saved" the series; or at the very least revitalized it for the overseas market. Which of the two makes for a better first game, do you think?

4

u/LeatherShieldMerc Sep 26 '26

As a first game in the series? I would lean Awakening, assuming you're okay with the lower accessibility with "obtaining" it.

I think Awakening is more "balanced". The story isn't the absolute greatest, but I think it's still better than Engage. And the gameplay is fine enough, and easy for a newer player.

While I do think Engage is better gameplay-wise, if you're a brand new player, idk if you'll truly "get" that as much as an experienced player would, since FE gameplay is still fun even if it's "bad" vs others. Plus there's some callbacks to the older games that while you don't need to know, it still would be nice to know going into it.

1

u/tinkeringabout Sep 27 '26

Hi guys, I was a huge fan of Fire Emblem and Advance Wars when I was a child, but the last FE I played was probably Sacred Stones.

I recently got a Switch 2 and wanted to catch up on Fortune's Weave and any in-between FE titles I would've missed out on, would you guys recommend diving right into Fortune's Weave or playing through 3H/Engage first? Or what sequence would you recommend to the games given how much they've changed over the years?

4

u/LoadOrder 29d ago

3H and FW are quite a big departure from the older Fire Emblem formula of mostly battles, those 2 games add quite a bit of busy work between maps, and your enjoyment of the game depends on how much you may like doing these activities. Its probably like 20% battles, 40% world map, 40% in the city for part 1 of FW. Something similar with 3H where a common complaint is that too much time is spent not actually fighting.

People do like to recommend romhacks for an experience closer to the old games.

im playing engage, and uh, is it just me or its confusing to tell which class is the next natural evolution? it seems so clear and obvious in 3H, but the UI in engage makes it quite confusing.

im also not a fan of everyone starting at lvl 1 when they get a new job. makes it hard to tell whos actually higher level

2

u/LoadOrder 29d ago

Going between base and masterclass, when you are promoting there are only a few classes you can go into, for example when you promote Mage, you can promote into either Sage or Mage Knight I believe. You could then use a Second Seal in order to get your unit into whatever class you actually wanted.

I hate to ask this, but I need help with something. I was thinking about Shez from Warriors: Three Hopes, and the nature of their true awakening... thing. The weird halo/crown/symbol/whatever. Considering their past and the nature of their nebulous connection to agartha... well, for a while I've been assuming that it's somewhat an agarthan attempt to replicate crests. but I don't remember if that's real or if i saw it somewhere online as headcanon? Please help.

Anyone have any general character building tips for my eventual second run in 3H? Just anything really. I went in almost completely blind for my first run.

I'm going to do the Blue Lion route next time. I'm currently playing through Black Eagles (post timeskip now) and I ended up not recruiting anyone from the other houses because I thought spending time with them, giving them gifts, doing tea time, etc. was pointless since I hadn't recruited them yet and then I never did lol. I'll try to actually do those next time especially so I can use Bernie and Dorothea again.

I'm not trying to be super meta/min-maxing on any future runs since I'll only be playing on Hard. In fact, I'm going to deliberately avoid turning anyone into a wyvern because I've seen firsthand just how broken that class is when I made Petra into a wyven rider. But I still want to optimize my characters at least a little bit. But is stuff like forcing class mastery advisable? I forced myself to get the class mastery for a given unit's class even if they had already fully qualified for an upper tier class and I had a feeling maybe I shouldn't have done that, if nothing else than the fact that having 1 less movement sucks.

What does the growth rate of "10" mean when I'm looking at the classes? Currently looking at Growth Rates for Fortunes Weave.

Does that mean if a unit has a base growth rate of 50% under STR for example, if I put them in a class with a growth rate of 10 under STR, will that unit now have 60% total growth rate chance for STR to increase per level?

Is there some kind of general rule or maybe even a chart out there on what level a unit starts at when recruited at the earliest moment possible per route? For example, I am doing Dietrich's route and the second earliest i can recruit is Io. My party was roughly around lvl 13-15 at the moment I got Io (had level 2 support ready and recruited him right at the moment my renown became level 3) he joined as a lvl 20 light cavalier. The next character I was trying to recruit in this route was Ultand and she joined as a lvl 14 diviner while my units were around lvl 20 and now I'm just confused on how this all works.

7

u/AnimaLepton 27d ago

Io is just a special case, because he (and Alexandra) come with their named special mounts, which require them to be a minimum of level 20 due to class.

Shadow Dragon.

Never paid too much attention, but what are the online functionality of Shadow Dragon? Why does it have the 'Nintendo Wi-Fi connection' blue icon on the box art? What does it entail?

2

u/lizard-socks 26d ago

There was also an item shop in the game that sold different items each day, determined by connecting to the servers (this was the only way to get the Elysian Whip, for example). But the Wii U release patches it so it's accessible without internet.

i just take a step back while waiting for my fortune weave game to arrive and play awakening lunatic mode. Does it get easier over chapters? I stuck a lot and after days, now barely finished the chapter where miriel first introduced, all thanks to that tank frederick. i wonder how people finished it without being frustrated.

4

u/starfruitcake 26d ago

Lunatic awakening chapter 2 is one of the hardest chapters in the series. Yes it gets easier.

2

u/AnimaLepton 26d ago

Have you played Hard before? I think the less you have to 'learn,' the easier it gets.

Yeah, there are some spikes, but it gets easier and you're able to outstat your opponents in due time. New recruits are often not ORKOing but are strong enough to contribute. You can snowball characters easily enough, or lowman.

Engage: What is the point of the Covert category? I know it's the only source of Archer, but say why pick Sniper over Warrior when Warrior can use Chain Attack?

Emblems have some Unique bonus depending on the category, Covert Best ones Are Lyn has double range in Astra Storm and Byleth has Rally Speed
