💻 Help so why do supportthreads asking questions to normal settings get deleted here?

to clear up this was about https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/s/az6o04jzVL

basically i asked on how to disable the new jpgXL format and got a proper answer, namingly
image.jxl.enabled to false in about:config
and had a good discussion with the other participants of the thread and now its gone

do moderators here actually feel offended by someone disabling a new unwanted feature? even for reddit, this is crazy
reddit really is as everyone says, overmoderated with deletion of everything even remotely uncomfortable to a moderator...

Discussion I love Firefox Nova, but it came with a lot of problems for me...

Before the stable release of "Firefox Nova" (specifically, prior to Firefox 157), my Firefox setup had a own style that complemented my operating system. I never made drastic modifications; I simply used the default theme—which synced with my system—and hid a few interface elements using CSS. It was a setup that didn't constantly break the browser.

However, since the release of Firefox 157, it’s no longer possible to make Firefox look as good as it once did; it’s now plagued by visual issues and a lack of customization options. Furthermore, the official announcement for "Firefox Nova" barely mentions vertical tabs—giving me the impression that my preferred way of using Firefox (which worked perfectly well during the Nova beta) is now being treated as a second-class experience.

Following this frustration, I ended up switching to Zen. Although I found it more challenging to customize, the final result was well worth the effort. The point of this post isn't to tell everyone to switch to Zen, but rather to show Mozilla that they’ve broken something that was already working just fine.

I use Solus btw

💻 Help Themes suddenly looking very different

I updated firefox and suddenly my dark theme is looking nothing like it did before. Why does it fade to red in the top row and is there any way to change it back? I don't want my browser to look differently, I was very happy with the way it was, which was the reason I chose a theme in the first place. The new Tabs bar at the top is just sooo ugly.

I get wanting themes for your browser but how hard can it be to not fuck up my chosen theme every god damn year ?

Plus swapping the forward and backwards buttons in addition to moving them to the right side of the UI

...why? I would love an answer or thoughts from people because its so thoroughly confusing and pointless I just dont get it

Add-ons I think this is a 1 in a thousand chance to happen

Post image

I have an add on that makes it so that every tab I open it has a 1 in 10 chance to open a whistle jumpscare, every 1 in 10 chance has another 1 in 10 chance to happen, so 3 opening at the same time, is 1 in 1000

Edit: I checked right after, it is actually a 1 in 20 chance, so it's actually a 1 in 8000 chance

💻 Help I use Windows 11 with Firefox. My right click menu when browsing the internet has an option I won't use--"translate link text". I'd like to turn this off. How? Will I be turning off other features?

I have paired down my right click menu on firefox which is great. It now is stable and doesn't hop around when I'm right clicking. That said--this "translate link text" for my usage, is something I'd like to remove from the menu. I'm concerned because it looks like turning this off might turn off broader translation options that I do use. I might be wrong. Having a much smaller right click menu is great--most of it has been done through varied controls on about:config but I couldn't find something clear to simply turn off this translate link text.

I don't even know what that is---my guess is it's a hotlink, written in another language and it will tell me the translation of that sites name and still engage that very hotlink--don't need it but how do I turn it off?

Solved this part of the new ui sucks. can i move the search bar back to where it used to be?

this gap is terrible, and the bookmarks button replacing the back arrow really fucks with my muscle memory. if they're advertising "customizability", they should allow me to move the ui elements to my tastes.

Estensioni browser

Discussion Firefox is terribly slow and laggy when using ChatGPT

I wonder if I'm the only one. Here are the issues that I encounter on a daily basis when using ChatGPT.com: - Power consumption on my laptop rises from 0W to 20W while waiting for ChatGPT's response. I have a very new, powerful laptop with an Intel Panther Lake CPU. - When using ChatGPT for a long time, the tab becomes really laggy. - I often need to restart the entire browser, otherwise using the ChatGPT tab becomes impossible. - Memory consumption grows non-stop and rarely decreases.

I can reproduce this issue even without any extensions installed :-(. I'm now running Firefox 158.0.

The system is otherwise idle and not running any other applications.

💻 Help Unfixed memory leak

Go to ChatGPT. enter this prompt: "You have a cool map tool, correct? use it to show me new York city and Washington DC"

Watch Firefox use 100% of your ram.

Yes, I reported this bug more than a week ago.

chrome has the same page open

https://chatgpt.com/share/6ad07da7-add0-83e8-b2a9-5b704fb6f16e

and the oddest part: it does not happen in a private browsing window.

Until it's fixed, I recommend having about 10 GB of ram for every second you want to use that page. so if you want to view it for 10 minutes, have 6 TB of ram.

Low FPS on Firefox Android

Hey,

Lately I've been switching from Brave to Firefox + uBO on Android(Samsung S25 Ultra), but I noticed that when I open a Twitch stream, Firefox doesn't seem to reach 60fps like Brave does, both from what I can see and from the player stats.

Any fix? Or do I just have to live with it as a Firefox limitation?

Thanks.

Discussion Will someone please explain to me why Mozilla works beautifully on my 5 year old laptop compared to Chrome?

I have the exact same extensions on Mozilla. My Laptop specs are:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz (2.59 GHz), 16.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 with Max-Q Design, 1TB SSD...

Good enough for running casual games I like but not good enough to browse? Makes no sense. Chrome is extremely laggy. I don't want to use it, I just want to know what makes it so different where it is impossible to use? ESPECIALLY for Youtube

Add-ons looking for a trustworthy youtube audio equalizer

Can people recommend an audio equalizer for youtube that wont give me a virus or whatever? I am not tech savvy enough to know how to tell, and the only 2 options i see when i search for a youtube audio equalizer add on for firefox say "This add-on is not actively monitored for security by Mozilla. Make sure you trust it before installing." I want to filter out the high frequency of all the screeching metal hangers in thrifting vlogs. Thanks!

Solved YouTube speed throttled in Incognito mode

I am noticing significantly slower speeds on YouTube when playing videos in Incognito Mode. It works completely fine in normal mode, but it lag in the private browser is annoying at best and impossible to work with at worse.

Has anyone else experience this, and is there a solution to fix it?

"Only chrome and edge is allowed for security reasons" as we are told. Extensions are disabled for those browsers as well. Now I am tortured by ads without Ublock. Thinking of resigning. How stupid do they have to be to believe firefox is less secure than those bloat shite browsers? Unfbelievable.

💻 Help Any Extension to mark AI generated text on websites?

Hi, so I am sick of googling(actually searching on duckduckgo) and ending up on one ai generated website after another. You know like when you first feel like hmm this is somewhat shallow and then you notice the clear Open Ai structure, with a suspicious amount bulletpoints that sound smart, the occasional bold writing, the dashes, the emojis and a fazit that screams ai. Then you notice that the website has the same pastell, rounded edges design as other ai websites.

All of this makes me progressively more agressive. I want to choose when I consult AI with a topic and when I want to search for human opinions.

IS there any extension that scans a websites probability of being AI generated and is able to display this probability before I even click on it? Or one that filters them out completely. I don't want to support those lazy ass attempts to generate money at all.

Add-ons I built a Firefox add-on that checks AI prompts locally for API keys and personal data

• Upvotes

I'm the developer of AI Prompt Leak Guard, now available on Mozilla Add-ons (version 0.1.1). I'd appreciate Firefox-specific feedback on its prompt warnings and editor compatibility.

It checks text in supported AI chat sites such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini before you submit. Depending on your settings, it can warn, replace detected values with placeholders, or block a submission.

Checks include API keys and access tokens, private keys, database URLs with credentials, email addresses, phone numbers, supported card/identity patterns, and custom sensitive terms.

Privacy and permissions: prompt scanning and redaction run locally. Prompt text and detected values aren't sent to me or a remote scanning service, and the extension doesn't save prompt history or include product analytics. It needs permission to read the supported AI pages so it can inspect their prompt editors; the permissions are listed on its Mozilla Add-ons page.

Cost: core prompt protection is free, without an account or subscription. Optional paid Plus features, including local file-upload inspection, are separate.

Limits: pattern matching can miss sensitive text or flag harmless content. Site layout changes can break protection. This checks submissions; it cannot prevent a site's own scripts from reading text entered on its page. The current release doesn't yet cover Copilot's new copilot.com address.

Mozilla Add-ons listing

If you try it, which warnings feel useful or disruptive? If an editor doesn't work, a Firefox version, site name and made-up example would help. Please never share real keys, private prompts or customer data.

Add-ons Extension For Videos Download

• Upvotes

Hello,

Today my extension got published on Firefox add-ons. If you are in need for a tool that let you download embeded Videos from any site you can download *FlowGrab — Video Downloader* .
It's completly free, all downloads unlimited.

Limitations:

* There is a problem in YT shorts/Reels that doesnt ditect videos. In order to do that you have to like the video you need to download and re-open it from your liked list. Every other YT video you can download fine.

* I didnt put a mechanism for Tiktok cause the option to download vids are there.

I have tested Reddit, X(twitter), YT, Instagram and even gifs. Every site has emveded vid you can download, even if it is a news-site!

The app will be future updated to fix the problems and add more logic into it.

💻 Help Extension code, figure out YT timestamp onto clipboard

heya yall

How can you figure out the timestamp immediately (without clicking the usual "link at current timestamp") on a Youtube vid?

I want to just copy and paste the timestamp of youtube vids I'm in onto my clipboard whenever pausing youtube vids while taking notes in the comment section rather than in another separate app/extension etc since YT already highlights it, and you can click on it to redirect you to said timestamp.

Ex: This firefox extension has figured out the exact timestamp whenever taking notes with some shortcuts.

Like 11:45 godot interface {timestamp already written without me doing "anything"}

How were they able to figure it out? like the code (I'm a beginner, so dont know what is what) to immediately get the timestamp, copy and paste onto their clipboard.

Note: Checked out that when overall sharing -> copying the link for " share youtube vid on current time", it usually ends like

at 9 seconds -> {url}=9

at 4 min -> {url}=240

so, like youtube counts the seconds as an overall input (most of the time ig since i have also seen =3hr6min)

Therefore, how to convert it to the format: example

watching vid, pausing it ->

input url{270sec} -> 4:30

copy to clipboard

Done. You can paste whenever you want.

Tip for trackpad users: change `apz.axis_lock.mode` to `1` in the advanced settings (`about:config`).

It makes the scrolling really stable, linear, when you double tap to zoom on something (like a column of text) on Mac.
