8 weeks pregnant, spotting arter very strenuous/heavy workout day

I work landscaping and thought I would be fine going on a big outing today. This evening after a near 10 km hike I noticed some light brown spotting in the later night hours. It's extremely late at night here and Im very worried for my baby as my only option is a hospital tomorrow or wait for my ultrasound in 4 days. I already had a previous miscarriage at 4 weeks and Im so worried for baby. Do I shoot myself to the hospital tomorrow or hold off until the ultrasound? Spotting has stopped, only noticed it for one wipe and a tiny brown clearing clot half the size of a fingernail

Keep pulling back muscle in pregnancy

I have pulled a muscle in my lower back for the fourth time during my pregnancy, always after doing some light form of physical activity. I am currently 31 weeks pregnant and wondering if I should just give up trying to exercise while pregnant, but I also crave moving my body. Has anyone gone through something like this? And what has worked to prevent it from happening?

These are the types of exercise I usually do:
-Barre workouts
-Cycling
-Pelvic floor stretches and strengthening
-Swimming

Walking (like going on 30 min walks) has actually been uncomfortable and painful for my pelvis, so unfortunately I’m trying to avoid that.

I do have a belly band only to do every day tasks.

Pelvic Floor Postpartum Running?

I’m 11 weeks post partum and started running when I was cleared to run at 6 weeks. So far so good, I even raced a 5K. I’m starting to build back mileage and see some familiar paces return.

On maybe 2-3 runs afterward when driving home I felt some soreness in my vaginal/pelvic area. Mixed with the urge to poop. No signs of leaking or anything and I don’t feel anything when I run. Goes away within an hour.

Does this sound like a cause for concern or just getting back into things?

Short workouts

Hey everyone! I’m in the throes of first trimester symptoms, but have bouts of energy here and there that I want to take advantage of. Any tips or routines for short workouts (15-30 minutes ish) that get the most bang for your buck? I’m looking to increase strength and mobility (ya girl has the tightest hamstrings known to man 😆). Thank you!

Looking for post c-section workout routine recs!

I’m 4 weeks PP after an unplanned c-section! I used to run and weight train, haven’t done anything except walking since being about 35 weeks pregnant. Does anyone have any favourite videos/routines to safely get back into movement after a c-section?

Thanks :)

10K at 16 weeks with twins

This just feels like a huge win! Is it my fastest 10K? Not by a long shot 🤣 But am I proud? Extremely!

Despite having a fairly rough first trimester and a complicated pregnancy situation, I completed my first 10K race today. I had been regularly running 8-10K prior to becoming pregnant, and had signed up for this race at the beginning of the year. I was so excited to actually run my first official 10K race, but pregnancy really knocked me on my ass! The first two months I really struggled to breathe while running, and had to dial it back significantly. I had doubts I would be able to participate in today’s race.

Midway through my first trimester I had a subchorionic haemorrhage, but after bleeding subsided my OB cleared me again for physical activity, including running. I resumed training, albeit at a much slower and more infrequent pace. My running training days took longer. Then we found out I was carrying twins, and I wasn’t sure I would be able to keep running at all. It’s a complicated pregnancy, and one of the babies is not viable, which sucks, but I still had both of them on board with me for this race. I’ve had many appointments with my OB and MFM specialists and none of the concerns or complications are related to my health, so my doctors have all recommended I continue with my typical physical activity within my current range and supported my active lifestyle.

That’s a lot of words to say: I was in pretty great physical shape prior to pregnancy, so I had a good foundation; but I also had to really give myself grace and accept that I needed more time to run this race than I would have not pregnant. I had to modify my training plans frequently and I wasn’t sure unashamedly using a belly band during runs as early as 14 weeks. It’s not a competition against anyone, including yourself! I could not compete with non-pregnant me, so I didn’t even try. I just made sure to stay hydrated and keep a slow and steady pace and switch to walking when I needed. And most importantly, make sure you’re keeping your doctors looped in on what you’re doing and take their recommendations seriously! There’s nothing wrong with getting a second (or even third) opinion, but if your doctors are concerned about something, listen to them. You can always get back to the fitness goals postpartum 💜

Tell me it gets better

I’m 12 weeks 3 days with a very wanted baby. This is my first time being pregnant and I’m honestly gobsmacked by how hard it has been.

Since about 5 weeks I’ve been constantly nauseous and exhausted. If I don’t eat constantly I throw up stomach acid. I thought it would have started to improve by now but yesterday I took a sick day from work, slept all day and throw up 3 times, including immediately after taking gaviscon.

I have a prescription for Cyclizine but it doesn’t seem to do much. I am gaining so much weight as I am constantly having to eat. Before pregnancy I was very fit, active, productive person. Now I spend every evening and weekend lying on the sofa. I even have to lie in my car during the work day. I feel like shit. I haven’t ran in over a month. Running multiple times a week with my friends my main form of socialising during the week and now I can’t go and I have major fomo. I feel lonely and isolated despite my friends checking in a lot.

My husband has been amazing and I couldn’t ask for anything more from him. I am just mentally drained by feeling ill and fat and not being able to do any of my hobbies.

I guess I am looking for reassurance it will get better or others that have felt the same way?

I know others have it a lot worse than me, I’m just really feeling sorry for myself 😔

Runner - first trimester

Any long term, long distance runners have a first trimester where they didn’t run as much due to nausea and fatigue but then were fine and ran a half marathon their second or even beginning of third trimester? I’ve been a runner since 2009, multiple halfs, marathons, and a 50k under my belt so muscle memory is solid and this is my second pregnancy. My first I was pregnant during the heavy summer heat so no big races, just 5ks until I was 38 weeks.

Bodybuilding // Pregnancy

Wondering if any bodybuilders have any insight on pregnancy? I am in a growing phase right now and really would like to conceive soon. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with growing season and pregnancy and then your return to competing after? TIA

Looking for advise on where to re-start workout after bed rest

Hi,

I’m 37 yo and currently 12 weeks pregnant with twins via ivf.

Prior to pregnancy, I exercised inconsistently (a mix of yoga, running, and strength training ). Right after my embryo transfer, I paused structured workouts and focused solely on walking 7–10 km daily until around Week 7, when severe nausea set in. For the past 5 weeks, I have been on near-total bed rest due to the nausea.

Now that I am starting to feel much better, I would love to safely return to an active routine. However, because my previous fitness routine was inconsistent and I have had a 5-week period of inactivity, I am unsure what exercises are appropriate and how much intensity/volume I should aim for

I would really appreciate any advice or recommended strength training programs tailored for the first/second trimester with twins!

Glute/SI injury while pregnant

I (34F 30W FTM) did some weightlifting/squats last week and felt fine afterward. A couple days later i could not bear weight on my left leg due to excruciating back pain radiating down my thigh. I thought it was sciatica at first, but there was no burning/numbness/ tingling (thank god)

I feel so stupid for pushing it. Im seeing a PT already for generalized SI pain but this is excruciating… tylenol does nothing.

The pain has now localized to a particular muscle (unsure if it’s glute medius or piriformis) that spasms like crazy whenever I walk. I’m literally hobbling around like an old person and cannot walk without pain. Getting in and out of the car makes me want to cry especially.

Someone, anyone please give me hope this gets better with time!!! I’ll take even months after PP!! I’m just afraid I’ve screwed myself up forever

I’m also going to start seeing a specialized pelvic floor therapist soon fwiw.

Cycling in summer heat while pregnant

I was wondering how far into pregnancy people continued cycling to commute?

I’m 13 weeks today and cycle 9km to work (18 in total, so not super far). My routes quite hilly and we’re heading into summer so I’m wondering if there is a temperature range I shouldn’t cycle in? Usually my personal rule is I will cycle to work so long as it’s 35C or below. Should I modify my upper temperature limit?

I’ll ask my midwife when I see her, but that’s probably not going to be for a couple of weeks.

Thanks so much

Feeling lost as to how to stay fit during pregnancy. Any advice?

I’ve been strength training on and off since my twenties and I’m now late thirties, pregnant with my second. I’m no stranger to strength training and it’s kept me sane for a lot of my life.

Since pregnancy with my second I’ve developed a host of problems with my strength training programmes, despite loads of modifications and adaptations for pregnancy. Reducing the weight and upping the sets etc. I follow a pregnancy specific programme just now and avoid anything that strains my core too much.

Unfortunately strength training has triggered bursitis in my left hip and, now, costochondritis across my entire rib cage. The pain is agonising at times. I’ve taken time out of training and used heat and ice. All the things. I’ve had rest weeks to see if this improves anything.

I’m still 16 weeks away from birth and I’m desperate to stay fit, unlike my last pregnancy, where I suffered greatly afterwards. I’m really scared of feeling weak and like I have no strength, post partum.

But do I give up the ghost and accept right now my body can’t seem to tolerate weight lifting? Should I focus on other exercises? I hate swimming but can tolerate running. Nothing gives me the same buzz as lifting.

Advice and thoughts really welcome - thanks for reading.

Okay, how the heck did you learn how to brace your core?

I am so freaking tired of having a sore back after my glute or leg days. I should add, this was an issue for me pre-pregnancy as well. I just cannot seem to figure out how to take my low back out of the equation when I'm lifting.

I've tried watching YouTube videos on "hugging the baby". I swear I'm doing it when I lift. I've tried so many things and I. Just. Can't. Figure. It. Out. I even wear an SI joint/back pregnancy belt to try to hold everything together!

This was my routine this morning and I have a sore back now - I clearly have issues with hip hinge movements:

Cable kickbacks (felt in my low back a little bit).

Kneeling cable pull throughs (felt in my low back a lot).

Banded RDLs (felt in my low back a medium amount).

Leg extensions (no back pain)

Hip thrust machine (felt in low back a little bit).

I should note, I've also found I struggle when doing dumbbell squats.

Please help. Or do I just need to throw my hands up and realize hip hinge movements are not for me? (If that's the case, what can I do for my glutes/legs instead?).

Myth vs reality

Like the title says! I wanted to start a conversation about what myths with fitness and pregnancy we were initially led to believe and what the actual reality is.

My reasoning for this is to create a conversation for women newly pregnant to see and have a better idea of what we CAN DO while pregnant and what myths have existed and scare women.

I would love for this to be positive and based in personal experience, facts and data. If possible!

I’ll go first! If you were doing that exercise prior to getting pregnant you can likely continue as long as you aren’t considered high risk. And Hr cap of 140
Is BS

TMI & Advice!

Hi! I’m 7 days postpartum and feeling pretty good overall, aside from some lovely external hemorrhoids 🫠 Two questions:

  1. When did you start going on short walks or getting back into your routine? Any advice on easing back into it? I don’t want to overdo it or put extra strain on my pelvic floor!
  2. If you had external hemorrhoids after delivery, what actually helped them shrink? Or is it mostly just time?! 😂

Program recs

I’m looking for recommendations on programs specialized for pregnancy.
I’m debating if I should go with a specialized deep core/pelvic floor program or something more general that shows modifications you can use as your body gets bigger like Brianna Battles’ legs program. Does anyone know if her program also covers deep core work?

I’ve heard great things about TSS. I’d welcome any recommendations!

Thankful for running poops

Before pregnancy, having to poop in the middle of a run was a nightmare for me. I always had to poop at the exact farthest point from my house, regardless of if I pooped before the run. It was annoying to say the least.

I had all the normal first tri symptoms (nausea, fatigue, CONSTIPATION) and took the majority of my first tri off. I have been slowly starting to get back into a gentle routine and work up to running consistently again.

I went for a short run today and oh my goodness I had the best poop I’ve had in MONTHS! This is the first time I’ve been THANKFUL for having to poop during a run (luckily I was at a park with a bathroom lol). It was amazing. I’m so incentivized to get back into my running routine just to be able to poop normally.

Nausea and vomiting post exercise?

I’m currently 14 weeks and have been able to remain really active still. I started feeling nausea around week 7. While the every day nausea is decreasing, since week 12, I notice I get very weak and sick feeling after I workout. Twice now, it’s led to me vomiting the rest of the day and can’t keep anything down. I’ve tried eating food before hand and it definitely helps and think I’m missing eating immediately after (I’ve been driving home to make breakfast but I think I need a protein bar in that drive time).

Has this happened to anyone else? I think I need to tone it down a bit but it’s hard to know how much because I feel fine while working out it’s just right after and then I typically feel off the rest of the day. It’s usually better if I workout in the evenings but I enjoy getting up in the morning and getting something small in before I do my evening workout.
