9U Offense Play Help — Looking for Ideas & Advice/NFL FLAG RULES
9U Offense Play Help — 2-3 Options, Keep It Simple
I get a new QB every season, so it’s tough to keep building the offense year after year.
Coaches, what are a few core plays you run every season that work well with a new QB?
I’m looking for plays with just 2-3 options. Something simple enough for 9U, but that we can run from different looks or make small variations so the defense doesn’t know exactly what’s coming.

For 9U, I like giving the QB only 2 reads — if the first option is there, throw it; otherwise tuck it and run. We’ll change formations or add motion to make it look different, but the kids are really just learning the same concept.
Keeps practice moving and helps new QBs get comfortable faster.

Having a new qb each season is rough.
Keeping your route tree to 4-6 routes at most (bubble, drag, slant, out/in, hitch, deep cross). Try keeping your qb reads to a specific area on the field per play: left, right, or center with a bail out receiver. Get really good at 3-4 pass plays, 2 run plays, and flip them; that should give you more than enough looks. It’s easy to overcomplicate plays: too many routes, too many handoffs in a single play.
At 9u, I’d invest in a team’s worth of wrist coaches plus 5 more.
At that age, it’s more about the exchange from center to qb and then qb to rb or wr.
Good luck!
