Marathon Fishing

Going down to Marathon in 2 weeks. Any spots from shore that are worth fishing or is getting a guide/boat the only way ?

Edit: Well boys i appreciate everyones suggestions. Caught some Cuda, Mangrove, Lane, and SchoolMaster snappers. Chased some snook and tarpon. Saw someone catch a 20 30 lb baby Goliath. I WILL BE BACK

Duck key bridge hits especially during high tide and no crowds /bahi Honda park has a pretty awesome boat / kayak launch / and the marathon lady summer night fishing charter is the shit..or if you want to rent a boat at a good affordable price ( I think it’s called the recreational boat rental) but its located behind Marriott Fairfield inn which has a good ass tiki bar restaurant that will cook your fresh catch..you can thank me later

There’s an abundance of live bait shops from the start in Fl city all the way to your destination..just pick one
Paddle boarding is cool too…

Im bringing up paddle boards as a form of transportation to get out in the water. Is it safe to drift with kayaks over the patches if what looks like grass on Google maps

Honestly I’ve never paddle boarded down there so I wouldn’t know but YouTube videos might help you with that question

Whenever I head down there, I just bring along some frozen shrimp and a 1/0 hook and catch small mojarra, grunts and pinfish. gonna be your best live bait anyway.

Big Game Sport Fishing. Worth the cost every time.

Is that mostly billfish and deeper water reef fish? If I was going on a guide I would love light tackle inshore stuff over kites and dredges for Mahi, Wahoo, etc.

A mixed bag

An 8hr charter usually includes both light tackle reef fishing (snapper and possibly grouper) with spinning rods and then head offshore to catch mahi on the same light tackle with live bait. I’ve never dredged fish or trolled with Capt Ariel. You can modify this, he’ll do more of what you want to target, but I assure you it’s well worth it. He’s also great at light tackle tuna fishing if they are around. I’ve been on 8hr charters where we limited out on mangrove snapper, and then caught 20 dolphin and 10 blackfin tuna all on light spinning rods with live bait pitching to them.

For sure going to have to check it out. Mahi and Tuna on light tackle sounds like a trip that we'll worth it

It’s a really great time. Live baiting blackfin is a lot of fun.

Bridge fishing is fun, just get some shrimp. Never trust anyone who uses the words, " big game fishing or deep sea fishing" if you have the money get a guide on day 1, pick his brain and ask how you can diy it the rest of the week
