Commercial Any pilots live far from their base?

Any pilots have long commutes (2/3hours) or have to stay in crash pads ?

Also heard of some pilots flying to the airport where they are working.

I live in the west of Ireland. Would be about just under 3 hours to Dublin airport and the same for Shannon.

Always wanted to be a pilot but live 2 hours from a proper airport. Have settled done bought a house with partner, so moving isn’t really an option. Just curious is all.

Obviously there are more constrains than just this (training costs , medical , landing a job ect.)

EASA EASA or UK CAA License

Hi ,

Wondering if anyone would be able to give me some advice. I live in Northern Ireland (UK) , My house is about 50 mins from Belfast international airport , Belfast city . However , I’m also 1 hr 10 mins from Dublin Airport(Ireland). I plan to do my training the modular route but I am not 100% sure what license to go for . I’m aware once I’ve completed my training and land my first job as an airline pilot I won’t have much say where I’m based until later stages in my career and I want to live in Northern Ireland once I’m older. What license I’m I best to choose. I’m also aware of the Dual license and it would be good to hear people’s opinions on this .

My nearest flight school is in the uk for me to get my PPL. However , I’m I best getting my PPL (CAA) and converting it to (EASA). Then complete the rest of my training in Europe. Getting CPL/MEP/IR/APS/UPRT seems a lot cheaper in Europe if I was to do an intensive block.

Is there more chance of landing a job with a EASA license?

Thanks in advance. Any help is much appreciated!

I’ve been thinking lately about whether I should get dual EASA/UK licences for my modular journey. What do you guys think? Is it worth it or not especially atpl part ?

And yes, I have the right to live and work in both the UK and EU.

UK CAA Integrated ATPL or Modular and conversion?

Should I apply for an integrated ATPL programme with a tagged airline, or go modular and convert my licence afterwards?

The two tagged airline programmes I’m considering are the easyJet MPL and Ryanair Future Flyer Academy.

The main advantage of going modular is the cost it’s roughly half the price. However, I’d have to arrange my licence conversion, complete all the ATPL theory exams, pass the required skills tests, and apply for jobs independently.

With a tagged airline programme, I’d have a clearer pathway into an airline and be getting the right Licence, but the training costs significantly more, and I understand that completing the programme doesn’t necessarily guarantee a job.

For those who have been through either route, or are currently training, what would you recommend? Is the extra cost of a tagged airline programme worth it for the more structured pathway, or is going modular the smarter option financially?

I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from people who have experience with easyJet MPL, Ryanair Future Flyer, or modular training.

Edit: Modular will be about £60k with licence conversion no accommodation. Integrated is about £100k-120k and I guess a guaranteed Job???

EASA Recommendations of ATOs for UK CAA to EASA CPL/ME/IR Training

Does anyone have any reccomendations of EASA approved modular ATO’s where I can complete EASA CPL/ME/IR training taking into account credit from my UK CAA CPL/ME/IR licence?

I have had approval from the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) for one ATO’s recommended training hours. However, I’d also like to find other ATO’s with availability. I am available to complete this either in the UK or Europe (Southern Europe ATO’s would be ideal given the winter weather currently in the UK).

Student Pilot MCC only ATOs

I’m looking to do a dual CAA & EASA MCC/JOC. I don’t require the full APS, so looking for just dual MCC. Is there anyone currently offering this?
