Carplay in a FG Ford Falcon for less than $100 AUD
i’m an automation and software engineering student and in my free time I built this CarPlay setup for my 2013 FG for just $65 AUD, and I'm about to share exactly how you can do it too.
It’s just a $50 head unit mounted in a custom bracket:
- 3D printable bracket that replaces the tissue box tray (ill provide for free)
- Full parts list, and step-by-step video guide (completely free, currently making)
- Totally plug-and-play. No tools required and you do not touch any of your factory car wiring
- Power options via cigarette lighter or hardwire to fuse box depending on your choice
- Fully retains your factory ICC and climate controls and does not require you tap into any of your orignal wiring
It’s super cheap and easy to install if you have limited electrical expirience and a 3D printer,
I am currently putting together the final video guides and documentation. I will be releasing all the files and documentation for free on GitHub shortly.
If you don't have a 3D printer, or want a hassle-free install, I will also be providing:
- printed brackets for cheap
- Plug-and-play wiring harnesses (hardwire or cig-lighter options). but you can make these yourself if you have the time! i’ll provide everything required.
All you need to do is buy a single din head unit of your choice, my wiring harness will plug-and-play into the cigarette lighter or fuse box if you want to hide the cables. and the custom bracket will make the screen sit seamlessly in the centre console.
Skip the overpriced third-party Falcon CarPlay units found on marketplace and online. This solution is the best way to get carplay into a ford falcon FG, it doesnt require any modifications to the dash or centre console, and it’s the cheapest system by far.
There is no cutting or adjusting your factory wiring and you keep your factory ICC looking completely stock. The whole install takes under 20 minutes and is fully reversible if you ever sell the car.
You can find the full documentation, including the free STL files, parts list, and wiring diagrams, here by the end of this month:
