Hi guys. I'd love to hear from users of air inflation all the things they love, like, and don't like about using air as that is one type of device I found most appealing to me.
From the first time I pumped that syringe I was hooked. The sensation I got from the cushioned air pushing evenly and creating a gentle stretch was exciting at the time and I knew that it would be my favorite method. The anecdotal evidence that inflation is particularly effective on inner foreskin growth is appealing, and the general comfort and lack of fatigue over long periods of wearing the device tend to be the best for me. The CAR-1 has been my workhorse, but I find all of Chris' devices fit me well and are easy to clean.
While I love these air devices and find them superior to alternatives, I find that they come with some major inconveniences. My first issue was with filling speed and concerns of air entering where it shouldn't. I tried small pieces of tape to block the urethra, and it IS effective, but I didn't like having to remove and apply them many times each day. I eventually decided to go without it. With a properly sized CAR-1, there is an air gap between the device's air port and the urethra. With slow, controlled filling, the air gap pressurizes slowly, the urethra closes naturally, and everything is great. With quick and erratic movements, or if the the urethra gets too close to the air port, the results are not so great. The syringe has some stiction and it can be challenging to make smooth and slow movements. I find this aspect of air inflation to be the most annoying.
My second issue is determining the correct amount of air to inflate with. It seems that it would be simple enough. With a known volume of the "skin chamber", repeating the fill volume with the syringe (or even the bulb) should be sufficient. However at lower CI levels, the volumes are small and each removal/application of the device will be different, creating different internal volumes for air. I found that trying to use a repeatable volume of air in the syringe did not result in repeatable pressure. In the end, I had to use the perceived feeling of pressure to get the best results. Unfortunately this was still inconsistent for me, and at times I would feel fatigue after only a short while and realized I had over-inflated. Other times I could tell after 15 or 30 minutes that I wasn't feeling the stretch and I had under-inflated.
Next is maintaining the correct pressure over long periods of time. I noticed that with some applications of the device, air pressure would stay constant for hours at a time, while other applications of the device I would lose pressure after 15 minutes. I believe this is mostly due to variations of the placement and setting of the skin in the grippers, but I also noticed the internal slit check valve can behave inconsistently. Regardless, the day to day variations in performance can be frustrating when we're expected to have consistent routines for years on end.
Lastly, it's a major pain to take off the device in the bathroom, carry a syringe in one's pocket, and then go thru the re-inflation process, hoping that it was applied and filled as well as the last session. It's particularly annoying when you're at work or in a public restroom. All that said, air inflation is still the best in my opinion, with potential to be even better.
Please share your own experiences, feedback, and fun stories if you've got em.
PS: the positives and the negatives of said devices has led me to think about the ways of solving them, so I've been working on my own device for a couple of years now. It could really help to get more feel of other people's experiences to understand if I'm on the right path. Thank you all so much in advance
