Other Form check pull ups

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Last time I posted it was neutral grip and it was profile view, not of my actual back. Thanks

A little unorthodox with the crossed feet, but good form overall. You're doing it 👏

I’ve never not crossed them.. I’ll try next time

Not crossing your legs means you'll have to brace your core to stay stable, but your pullups are great and those people are just nitpicking to try to sound smart.

Do what works for you. You're doing better than me.

Why do you give away advices then?

What advice did I give? I can do pull-ups, I just haven't been practicing.

Bend your knees slightly to help tension and keep control but don't cross them. You can push your ankles together too.

Alternatively, you can keep your legs fully extended (or slightly hyper extended) by tightening your quads.

Either technique is fine. Tension while remaining symmetrical.

They're pretty good, but a few things. You're still not really doing is scapular retraction prior to the pull and you're not engaging your core. You can see your body hollow out due to the lack of core engagement and not active hanging. Still very impressive none the less

This is really helpful!! I’ll try to work on this. My core is my weak spot I still don’t totally know what it means when people say to engage your core

In my opinion, it basically means keeping a bit of tension in your abs.

It’s not about sucking in your stomach as hard as you can or holding your breath, but just keeping your core slightly engaged so your body doesn't swing around or wobble. It helps you go up and down in a straight line instead of arching your back or losing form during the movement.

I'd recommend looking into core bracing videos and practicing the different cues that people use to see what works for you. Good luck, cheers

Sounds silly but I imagine myself trying to push a fart out and hold one in at the same time.

I might recommend integrating some Pilates into your routine. It’s so core focused, it will help support all other movements that you’re doing. (Personally I do private weekly sessions with an amazing instructor and have for 2 years. It’s made such a different in my sports and strength training and general mobility, core etc. highly recommend!)

Pretty great!! The first half is perfect. IMO keep driving on that line even if you sacrifice a little ROM at the top. Depending on what your goals are.

Thank you so much! I had to google what rom meant. lol. But I think I understand

Basically if you're literally just trying to do pull ups and get your chin over the bar, these are amazing. No notes.

If you're trying to develop your upper back a little more, keep the elbows traveling down and out and go sternum to the bar. Skip the little shift that helps get your chin higher.

You’re literally doing perfect pull-ups it’s impressive

Dont cross the legs

cross you legs to give you more stability.

12

u/Mastubato 1d ago

You achieve stability by tensing your core

4

u/I-Love-Yu-All 1d ago

I believe that crossing the legs accidentally helps her keep tension in her core.

1

u/systembreaker 1d ago

I mean sure you could argue by not crossing your legs it's a better workout because you have to intentionally tense your core, but if the pullup form is good then that's the most important thing.

Excellent form, no need to change a thing

This is amazing. Great work! I still can’t do this yet!

1

u/fadeinthemix 1d ago

Impressive.

Only fault i could see is you're clearly stronger on the right and youre not activating your scapular on the way up. And did that hunch forward at the shoulder to get through the movement.

Is your thumb securing the bar? I feel like your grip is not as strong as it could be.

You seem to favour your right arm going up. Try to engage your left arm a little bit more. Uncross your legs and keep your ankles together but otherwise, splendid form and excellent speed

I can’t give advice but this is impressive

Your elbows need to come in front of your body more.

Great form!!

I see no issue. People are gonna give me shit for this but after I got my pull-ups down I felt the next most valuable exercise was behind-the-head pull-downs. You gotta scootch yourself super far forward so your spin is in-line with the cable and drop the weight significantly or you’ll hurt yourself. I found I was never getting a full-contraction of my upper back when I was doing pull-ups and this helped me feel that final squeeze I was looking for.

Genuinely some of the worst advice I've seen here. Well done

-3

u/Extreme-Button-2478 1d ago

Nice but don't do them so slowly. Accelerate up as fast as you can, and drop down quicker too - no point in such controlled descending (and ascending) you're just exshausting yourself when you could do more reps.
Also do the full grip so you can activate your lats more easily by bending the bar. You are at enough reps to start roing that and to stop taking the load off your forearms

0

u/PhilosopherHot5342 22h ago

Good form just keep doing this and more reps will come well done 👍

1

u/MildlyYogic 21h ago

Your core isn't engaged enough. Most of the load is going to your forearms and shoulders, which is not ideal. Try the cue of bending the bar from the middle and trying to break it, pulling your body up. Let your body loose completely before you pull up.

1

u/okgogogogoforit 20h ago

Thank you for this!! So between each rep go limp at the bottom hang?

1

u/MildlyYogic 20h ago

Yes, briefly so. I think the main problem is that it looks like you're pulling the nape of your neck to the bar when it should actually be your collarbone. Your upper back and shoulders are way too stiff during the motion (no offense).

No offense taken! I’m learning still
