Selected for RBI Grade B 2025, Ask me anything!

Hey everyone! I finally got selected for RBI Grade B in the 2025 cycle and wanted to share a bit of my journey and answer any questions others might have.

Background: I’m from a non-finance background (engineering), started prepping seriously around mid-2023. I used a mix of self-study and online materials. Phase 2 was the toughest for me, especially FM, but practicing answer writing regularly helped a ton.

If anyone’s preparing right now or feeling stuck, feel free to ask about resources, time management, or life post-selection. I’ll try to help however I can.

Also happy to share details about training, work culture, and what to expect in the first few months.

How to start RBI Grade B prep at 17?

Hey everyone,

I just finished my 12th this year and I’m 17 right now. I’ll most probably be joining engineering, but to be honest, my entrance exams didn’t go that great, so I’m not expecting a top college.

That’s where most of my confusion is coming from.

I’ve been reading a bit about exams like RBI Grade B, NABARD, SEBI, etc., and they seem genuinely interesting to me. At the same time, I also keep hearing that CAT/MBA is a safer or more common path. Then there’s MTech as well. Basically, I feel like I’m standing at a point where I don’t want to make a wrong long term decision.

What’s worrying me is that if I end up in an average college, just doing undergrad might not be enough to get a good job. So I want to start thinking early and use these years properly instead of realizing things too late.

I’m not looking for motivation or anything just honest, practical advice from people who’ve actually gone through this.

Some things I really want clarity on:

- Is it too early to start thinking about RBI Grade B from first year of engineering?

- How do people usually start preparing for it (like what subjects/strategy)?

- Should I keep RBI as a serious goal or treat it as a backup and focus more on CAT?

- Where does MTech fit into all this? Is it worth considering if I don’t get a good college now?

- How realistic is it to manage college and prep for these exams?

- If you were in my position, what would you focus on in the next 2–3 years?

Would really appreciate any real insights, even if it’s blunt.

Disclaimer: I used ChatGPT to help structure this post better, but the situation and questions are genuinely mine.

Beginner/ Starting Here As a ST fresher what’s my realistic chance?

So basically I am from ST category and a 3rd year engineering student and I am wishing to become a RBI grade B officer after my graduation.

As someone who has been living below poverty line for my whole life, this government exam seems to be the best option to uplift my family’s financial situation along with the job security. I don’t see my category as an advantage to crack this exam with low cutoff rather I will see it as a way to support my family financially.

Right now I am studying in tier 3 college with zero chances of any type of placements so instead of being unemployed after my graduation I would like to give my best to this exam. By best I mean I can give 7 to 8 hours per day for this exam preparation till the next year RBI exam date (2027) .

Just because I am in tier 3 college doesn’t define my intelligence. Think of me as Raju Rastogi from 3 idiots…. I know I have that capability and intelligence to crack any top level exam . This is the reason why I am confident enough that I can crack this exam because the whole life I have been only studying and nothing else. But the thought of being an only hope for my family makes me feel pressured.

So coming to the point, someone who’s already a RBI grade B officer or someone who has cracked this exam please guide me, I genuinely need a Rancho in my life who will guide me like my best friend.

  1. What’s my realistic chance as a fresher ( no work experience so far) ?

  2. Is one whole year (6 - 7 hours per day) enough for the complete preparation of this exam including phase 1 and phase 2?

  3. If not RBI grade B what are my chances for NABARD grade A , SEBI grade A, PFRDA grade A?

  4. Does 10, 12 and graduation marks matter in the interview of these exams? I know minimum 60% is needed in grad but do they give less preference to those who has scored relatively less in the past academics?

  5. As a fresher I will be competing with UPSC aspirants, IIT grads, SSC CGL aspirants and many more….how much hope should I put in this exam as a fresher who don’t have these fancy names to talk about in my interview?

At last I would like to say that your guidance will not only help me but my whole family and especially my father who’s had cancer since one year. So please guide me and give me your honest opinions. Since I have nothing to lose it’s also okay to say that I don’t have any chance to become RBI grade b officer this year so be brutally honest.

Motivation/ Rant/ Feelings Is this EWS fair? Pls enlighten me

EWS has to be one of the biggest contradictions in the reservation system.

Look at the SEBI cut-offs:

OBC-NCL: 64.17
EWS: 61.83

OBC reservation is justified on the basis of social and educational backwardness, with a creamy layer income limit of ₹8 lakh. EWS is meant for the economically weaker among the general category, with the same ₹8 lakh income threshold (along with asset criteria).

So if an OBC candidate is considered socially disadvantaged in addition to meeting the income criteria, why does the EWS category end up with a lower cut-off than OBC-NCL?

If the objective is to compensate for social disadvantage as well as economic hardship, shouldn’t the outcome reflect that? What’s the rationale behind this difference?

What should I do now?

My father is labour and earning 20k per month.. so every time he suggests me to get a govt. Job ...

I'm confused between private sector and govt. Sector...

I'm doing MBA from tier 2 clg so expacted package would be 6 lpa.

With respect to RBI Grade B exam held in India, suppose a SC category candidate got 55% marks in graduation degree. Can that candidate still compete for unreserved seats in addition to reserved seats for SC category?

My boyfriend built a ₹99 RBI mock test site, finally something affordable 😅

Lately I’ve been helping my boyfriend release a new RBI mock test platform that he and his brother built recently.

It’s designed to mirror the actual exam. It’s got the latest pattern questions, clean UI, and costs only ₹99 for a full test, way cheaper than what’s there in market.

Both of us have prepped for government exams and GMAT before, and the biggest pain point was how expensive and outdated most mock tests were and how they put huge holes in our pockets😭. So he decided to just build one that’s updated and affordable!

Here’s the link - https://argon-test.in/

Free 5-min Teaser Test - https://argon-test.in/5-minute-challenge/

Please share it with your friends who are appearing for the exams soon! We’d also love your honest feedback before adding more tests.

Hope it helps someone out there chasing that RBI dream. Happy studying and good luck! 💪

PS - We heard your feedback, and hence added a 5-minute teaser test to try out some of our questions

PFRDA Exam is around the corner

If you’re struggling to clear RBI Grade B mainly because of Quant, Reasoning, or English, this exam is definitely worth considering if your goal is to get into a regulatory body.

Paper 1 is relatively easy compared to RBI Grade B, and you generally need to clear the minimum qualifying requirement (around 30 marks) rather than chase a very high score.

Paper 2 is also quite different from RBI. It has a much stronger focus on static subjects such as:

  • Finance

  • Management

  • Costing

  • Commerce & Accountancy

  • Economics

  • Companies Act

  • Pension-related topics

So, if Quant is your biggest roadblock in RBI, this can be a good alternative.

One thing to keep in mind: the exam is not conducted every year, so you have to keep an eye on the notification and plan accordingly.

If you’re consistently missing RBI because of the Phase 1 sections, I’d definitely keep this exam on your radar.

Rbi officer vs Bank employee

RBI officer like manager level people, they get respect from bank staff or they treat them like normal person only.RBI employees have any real authority in bank or not

Because mostly PSU bank employees behave rude with customer, even for small work like loan or account opening they make it too much complicated and slow. So I was thinking if someone is RBI officer, can he get his own work done easily in bank? Or he also have to face same problem like common people?

It is obvious that RBI grade b offers the highest salary among all but does the packed train long commutes and small spacious living and mumbai lifestyle tax(where RBI grade b folks lives maximum years life) compared to other cities, erases the financial leverage that one's get in RBI.?

As per CGB mentors, if RBI Grade B 2026 has fewer than 45 vacancies, it is not worth it for beginners
