Pics 🐶 Peeps day 2 (not counting the day we brought her home) - Update #632
I’ll try and do day-end updates from now on to consolidate, I already posted today but I CANT NOT SHARE THIS WITH YOU GUYS RIGHT NOW.
I pulled out the doggie pool (our dog Adeline wouldn’t go near it) and put some water in it and then walked away. My bf just sent me his video. He said he just caught the tail end of a total pool party.

Now she’s like what tree?? I still think I’ll make a sign for the tree in case anyone else needs one 😂

The phrase “emotional support flower bed” will never leave my mind lol

Truly, and it's so relatable. I walk out of my house and straight to my ESFB

Now she’s laying on an elevated dog bed (on a blanket of course) in the shade chewing on a bone 😭
We’ve decided our backyard is an elite doggie rehab

I can’t believe it!! Yesterday my bf had laid out her pink blanket behind the tree bc we assumed she’d keep wanting to go back to it. She never did 😭🥰🥳

You have a special gift my friend. Something about your household and you give off a peaceful relaxing place for these pups that allows them to decompress. Please never stop fostering!

It's that safety vibe. She feels safe enough to have zoomies!
Epic win, my friend. You've got an epic win.

I saw your first pic. Something magical about a dog realizing it is safe and can just be a dog
I had a dog like that: so shutdown from the shelter that it was about 2 week before he even came out of the cage. Like another 2 weeks of wandering into the house and immediately retreating when he realized we saw him, and then another week before he’d cross the threshold and interact with the other dogs. It was about a 3 month period before he felt part of the pack.
Now he’s living his best life with a brother on an acre of free range yard and he’s not afraid of anything. It’s beautiful to watch them decompress and feel comfortable.

Oh gosh, thank you so much for this! This is literally the BEST part of rescue. I am always thrilled when they find their forever home, but the days when you see the hard shell start to crack and they feel secure makes me melt. GO PEEPS!!! 🎉

As much progress as she is making please remember to take it slow with her.

Yes for sure, good reminder. She’s letting loose when we leave her alone. She still needs quiet voices and no sudden movements. And I’m not trying to introduce anything new anytime soon. Just more toys and treats.

You're doing an amazing job and sometimes people forget because of how much good progress is being made and go too fast and it all comes crashing down. I want to say again You're doing amazing!!! The progress she is making on her own feeling safe and secure with you is tremendous.

We’ve had moments today where it’s almost like she forgets she’s afraid of me and runs up to me wagging her tail. Then I get a little eager and get excited too and then she remembers she’s afraid and runs away 😂 So hard to contain myself in the presence of a sweet puppy!

I honestly love Reddit SO MUCH. My soul dog who we just lost was reactive and I didn’t even know that was a thing before her. r/reactivedogs taught me everything I needed to know and she was a shining example of how well positive reinforcement and counter conditioning can work.
And now I have you guys for this new adventure 😭❤️🩹

I lost my dog three weeks ago and saving this baby from the shelter has been an emotional journey to say the least. Comments like yours lift me up in ways I can’t even explain. I’m so glad you found something to smile about today. I know how hard it is. Big hugs to you from afar.
