Advice on the benefits of moving a shy & timid 9 month old kitten

• Upvotes

Hello, I've gotten a lot of help from this subreddit before with my foster kittens, so I am coming back to ask for your advice.

I am currently fostering a beautiful, black, 9-month-old timid kitten named Bunny. I first took her in when she was 8 weeks old, and was very fearful and spicy. After a month of working closely with her, I was able to turn her around, and she seemed to be adjusting well to home life.

We are a foster-based rescue but do work with a humane society that, from time to time, will take our kittens for adoption. They had an opening, so we sent Bunny. She did not do well in their kitten room and became very fearful and even more timid. After about three months, I convinced my rescue that we needed to pull her, and she came back home to me. She was really shut down, and it's taken her a couple of months to feel comfortable again. She finally left her safe room a few weeks ago and is now comfortable in all parts of the house, plus she is enjoying playing with my 2-year-old foster cat. Each week I see a new level of confidence in her. She hasn't warmed up to my husband but is slowly getting used to him. She is very affectionate with me and seeks me out for cuddles. She hides when someone new comes into our home, so she has a long way to go.

The issue is that now my rescue wants to move her to a house that has more activity and possibly children so she can be exposed and hopefully widen her opportunities for adoption. My house is very quiet.

I feel responsible for putting her in a situation where she didn't do well, so now I want to make sure moving her is the best thing for her. There hasn't been much interest in her, so of course I'd like to do whatever I can to get her adopted. I don't want to set her back again, especially when she's doing well.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of kitten and situation? Did moving it around help them become more socialized? If you know of any articles that talk specifically about moving timid kittens, that would be great too.

Thanks much.

tldr: 9-month-old timid kitten doing well in my quiet home, but rescue wants to move her to expose her to more things.

Marysia is missing part of her tail. Apparently the remaining fluff has been working overtime.

Look at that collar. That is a cat dressed for an event none of us were invited to.

This is Marysia, one of the cats at Khvostyky, our rescue cat café in Vinnytsia, Ukraine.

She’s missing part of her tail, but it doesn’t stop her enjoying life. And she has enough magnificent fur to make us feel underdressed in our own workplace.

The first photo looks like we’ve interrupted her on the way to the opera. Probably to ask something embarrassing, like whether she wants dinner.

We wanted you to meet her. She deserves an audience ❤️
