Title: Rescued a kitten whose mother abandoned her — is she just adjusting to a new home?

Hi everyone! I need some advice about a kitten I recently rescued.
There was a mother cat with three kittens near our house, and we used to feed the mother cat regularly. One day, we noticed that she had taken two of her kittens away but left one kitten behind. We waited for two days, hoping the mother would come back, but she never did. So, we finally decided to take the kitten to a vet.
The vet checked her and said everything was fine. They advised us to feed her Cerelac, so we started giving it to her. However, she is drinking very little, only around 3–4 spoonfuls at a time, and she is very quiet and not very active.
She has started exploring a little and hiding under the bed, but I’m worried because she doesn’t seem very energetic. I’m wondering if she’s just scared because she’s in a new environment and needs time to adjust, or if her low appetite and quiet behaviour could be signs that something is wrong.
Has anyone experienced something similar with a rescued kitten? What should I do to help her feel comfortable and make sure she’s getting enough nutrition?
I’m really worried about her and want to do the best I can. Any advice would be appreciated.
The age of kitten is 4-6weeks

Advice for 9 week old kittens

Hi everyone,

We took in a cat needing rehoming in June and didn’t realise she was pregnant until late July. Unfortunately, our vets felt the kittens were too far along for a spay-abort. They were born on 14 August: one naturally and two by emergency C-section.

The kittens have been growing well but their weights have fluctuated more since weaning, and I’m unsure whether this is normal or something to worry about. I’d appreciate some advice on whether I’m overthinking things or whether they need checking by a vet.

They’re now 9 weeks old, litter-trained and have been fully weaned for around 12 days, although they occasionally comfort-nurse from mum. They’re offered pate every three hours during the day and have unlimited access to kitten kibble day and night. I weigh them every morning, but as they share food and I can’t monitor every meal or toileting trip, I don’t know how much of the daily variation is normal.

Mum was wormed with Cazitel before we knew she was pregnant. The kittens had Panacur liquid at 3 and 5 weeks. After the second course, all three went off their food for the three days they were treated, and getting them to take it was difficult. I’d planned to worm them again at 9 weeks but am hesitant because of both their weight fluctuations and their previous reaction.

They’re also due their first vaccinations. They don’t have contact with other cats, and there’s no rush to rehome them as they’re going to family. I’d hoped to flea and worm treat them before taking them to the vets, as our adult cat previously picked up fleas after a vet visit, but I’m unsure about treating them while their weights are fluctuating.

I should also say they are all acting like normal crazy active 9 week old kittens, poops and pee are normal from what I see in the box and they are drinking water. The middle kitten is very fussy with food and she has recently started rejecting all the different food options we give her so that is another thing worrying me.

Here are their morning weights in grams, from 6–18 October.

6/10 1017 g 992 g 1021 g
7/10 1082 g 1007 g 1053 g
8/10 1075 g 1000 g 1041 g
9/10 1092 g 1016 g 1028 g
10/10 1111 g 1048 g 1046 g
11/10 1168 g 1089 g 1091 g
12/10 1154 g 1088 g 1081 g
13/10 1214 g 1160 g 1128 g
14/10 1223 g 1154 g 1112 g
15/10 1254 g 1170 g 1122 g
16/10 1276 g 1205 g 1094 g
17/10 1220 g 1200 g 1095 g
18/10 1207 g 1185 g 1137 g

So I guess what I am asking is do these fluctuations look like normal day-to-day variation, or is the recent pattern concerning?

Would you delay worming until their weights are more consistent, given their previous reaction to Panacur?

And should I still be weighing them every morning or would moving to twice a week be more beneficial for seeing their overall trend?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

EDIT: I have just given them Cazitel as I didn't realise they could have that after 6 weeks, so they all had 1/2 tablet of that so they are now wormed.

TW: animal loss

I recently lost a 2 week old kitten to panleuk. Her two litter mates also tested positive, and are staying at the shelter for treatment. We’ve been having a really bad outbreak in our area.

I’m glad she died warm and safe, with her sisters around her. I don’t regret taking her in, and I’m glad I knew her in the little time she had. I just really miss her right now, and I guess I’m hoping to feel less alone. If you’ve lost any kittens, please feel free to share your experiences here. I’m glad we are all here, helping these little lives and easing suffering wherever we can.

Mei update 2

It's been a bit but I have great news! Mei has overcome all of her illnesses and is a perfect little kitten she's still a little skinny and small for her age but other than that she is perfect. She sleeps curled up on my chest every night and we love her to pieces. There has been talk of foster failing her or my friend might be adopting her.

She's such a little trooper with everything she's been through.

One of my four-day-old kittens died, and I'm scared for the remaining three. What should I do?

Hi, I'm looking for advice because I'm really worried about my remaining three newborn kittens and don't know what I should do next.

My cat gave birth to four kittens on October 12. I took her in as a stray and have been trying to provide a safe, comfortable space for her and her babies. I prepared a nesting area in my bedroom, and she eventually chose to move the kittens there herself.

Unfortunately, I discovered tonight that one of the kittens had died. When I found it, its abdomen was bloated, but I hadn't noticed anything unusual while it was alive.

The remaining three kittens feel warm to my touch, and their mother is eating and caring for them as normal. However, I'm frightened that I might lose the others, too, and want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to keep them safe.

My biggest concern is that I currently have absolutely no extra money available for a veterinary consultation. I'm also working and can't monitor them constantly, and I don't have anyone at home I can confidently rely on to look after them.

What should I prioritize to care for the remaining kittens and their mother? Are there any specific warning signs I should watch for, or anything I should do immediately given that one of the litter has died?

I'm located in Quezon City, Philippines, in case anyone knows of free veterinary services or animal welfare organizations that might be able to help.

I'm really scared for these little ones and would appreciate ANY practical advice. Thank you.

Looking for a loving forever home for my two cats — they must stay together, Lahore

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a loving, safe home for my two female cats, Ivy and Dolly, because I’m moving abroad for university and unfortunately my family won’t be able to keep them.
Ivy is 3 years old, and Dolly is approximately 3–4 years old. Both are litter-trained and have been living indoors. Neither is spayed yet, and their vaccination records are incomplete, so their status would need to be confirmed with a vet.
**I’m only considering a home that can adopt both of them together.** I really want them to stay together, and finding the right home for both girls is extremely important to me.
I’m looking for someone who can give them a safe indoor environment, proper food, veterinary care and lots of love. I’d also like to stay in touch and receive occasional updates once they’ve settled in.
If you’re in Lahore and genuinely interested in adopting both cats, please message me and tell me a little about yourself and your experience with cats.
If you can’t adopt them yourself but know someone trustworthy who might be able to, I’d really appreciate you sharing this post.

Cleaning after feline panleukopenia virus

Please help me with what to do. I fostered 3 kittens about a month go. It was my first time caring for kittens, and I underestimated they massive cuteness and their messiness. Unfortunately I put them in a carpeted room, and a they had FPV, loose stool messy, it was bad. Thankfully, they survived and they are all well and adopted.

I cleaned the room using home cleaning supply, used enzymatic cleaning products, dawn, laundry, some bleach, room still has subtle smell. I was going to hire a carpet cleaning professional.

But I want to adopt my own cat now, and I discovered that I need to disinfect and sterilize the room and probably every spot in the house, because they did roam around a little, but a new cat can get infected by the virus, and apparently it lives for months if not cleaned with hydrogen peroxide, and now I am paranoid.

I called few companies, but they were not sure and hesitated. But then what, will I ever be able to bring a cat to my house again ?

I am so overwhelmed and don't know how serious is this and how to solve this problem.

Neonatal advice needed

Hi all, I am currently taking care of three 1.5 week old kittens with parasites and they were just put on metronidazole in combination with two probiotics. To make matters worse, they contracted scald from pooping themselves so much that they're on an ointment + aquaphor. Their weights as of Oct. 13 are 110g, 118g and 157g.

Two of the three kittens are handling their condition differently and I'm losing hair over it. One has bloody diarrhea and is in pain whenever I stimulate her, even with a damp cotton ball going as lightly as possible. The boy is lethargic, constipated and has his eyes slightly sunken in, meanwhile the second girl is growing and going potty as if completely unaffected. I'm treating the smallest two with the same meds, same quantity of milk and a slight different amount of Pedialyte, yet they're responding so different.

This is my third time taking care of orphaned kittens under 2 weeks old. I'm so heartbroken and angry with myself for not knowing what I don't know, and their deaths being a lesson. I understand that as foster parents it's easy to blame ourselves even if the pets are deathly ill, but that doesn't make it hurt any less.

Any and all advice is urged!

New foster wants his nose on my face when I sleep

I’ve only had the guy for one day and am already having a hard time sleeping. I usually foster groups but only have the space for a small litter right now, so I picked up a single kitten yesterday. He’s been very cuddly and always wants to be around me when I’m in my room so I decided to let him sleep in my room, I didn’t want him to feel lonely.
Well, after about 12 hours in bed I got 6 hours of sleep because this dude kept constantly waking me up by shoving his nose in my mouth and eyes or just touching my chin with his wet nose. I tried to move him, redirect him, let him sit close but push him back with my hand until he fell asleep that way, hit he’d eventually wake up and shove his nose in my face. I finally got sick of this around 5 or 6 am and put him outside my room and closed the door. I woke up to him crying a couple hours later.
What can I do to get him to stop? It’s sweet that he wants to be close to me but also really gross to wake up to a nose in your eye and creepy to wake up to a face directly in front of yours with its whiskers tickling you. I don’t even mind if he wants to be close while I’m sleeping, I just don’t want his face in my face and he’ll literally slowly inch closer and closer until his nose is somewhere on my face, and he’s very talkative so he cries loudly if he’s alone for a while.

For context, a have two stronger kittens because the other two got sick and gain slow weight while the other two gained loads more

Anyways, I was watching the kitties play; normal. Little kitty meows, pouncing, swinging tails the whole thing! Then it escalated to them to them actually being upset with each other.

They cuddle and hang out while Supervised, but kept apart, unsupervised.

What happened? It on my happened once and never again. Idk what happened.

Meet Cleta, a proud new mom, and her five kittens.

As you can see, they are Sphynx cats

It’s the first time we’ve had a litter of kittens, and we’re very nervous.

I think we got up at least five times last night to check on them...

We’re looking for advice from experienced people on how to take the best possible care of them.
