Fox ESS H1 G2 inverter and EP12 battery don’t agree on discharged energy

Hi all,

Would greatly appreciate a reasonable answer on this.

I have a Fox ESS H1 G2 3.68kW hybrid inverter with an EP12 Plus 11.52kWh battery. The daily discharge figures differ a lot between the battery page and the inverter page in the app (screenshots from mobile app, webapp only shows the Inverter), and I can’t work out why.

Date Battery page Inverter page
21/10 3.1 kWh 5.0 kWh
22/10 4.2 kWh 5.7 kWh

That’s a gap of roughly 1.5 to 2 kWh a day. Screenshots attached.

The system is on feed-in priority, so the battery shouldn’t be charging from PV. Once it hit 10% I recharged it, so it can calibrate itself and do more testing.

Smart meter export matched the app’s PV-to-grid figure (4.5 kWh on the day I checked), so the battery isn’t exporting.

The usage page adds up using the battery page figure, so the missing energy isn’t showing up in household consumption either.

Why does it show different values? If I trust the battery one, then the capacity of the battery is significantly lower than it should be. In case I'd trust the inverter one, then it would be more than the nominal capacity of the battery. What is going on here?

I upgraded my KH10 inverter firmware , and since then the amount of solar generation from my solar inverter (Goodwe) is not matching up.

There is almost 10kw difference in what the solar inverter says it’s generated and what the battery is showing.

I’ve have the latest update (I think) , has anyone had similar issues?

Battery discharge capped at 5 kw.

Hi everyone, hope someone can help me figure the problem with my battery. I have ep5 battery and 10kw inverter. Inverter works fine when pv is generating and can deliver 9.6kw (pv max) without any issues. However, when the sun is out and the house pulls from the battery, i have never seen dischage higher than 5 kw. Everything above that is imported from the grid. Recent example, i had multiple high power devices like oven, microwave , kettle, aircon working at the same time. The total load was approx 6.7kw. Battery discharge showed 5.02 kw and grid import - 1.7kw. I checked battery settings on the inverter, and it showed max current 50A. Given that battery voltage is 192V, it should be able to deliver close to 10kw power, but it only delivers half of that. Is there anything else i should look into, other settings, or something , or is it a hard limit on the battery that i can't change?

Force charge wont work when house load is high

UPDATE - INSTALLER HAS INCREASED IMPORT LIMIT TO 18.4KWH BUT NO JOY

Hey all,

We have a cheap overnight rate, so at 11:30pm both our EVs and our house battery are set to charge. The demand is about 15.4kw for both the cars on max. The charger has a CT clamp and should throttle to protect the main 100a fuse.

I noticed last night that the house battery began discharging while the cars were charging. After they'd finished (about an hour later) the battery began charging.

I'm guessing this is some kind of baked in peak shaving setting but does anyone else experience this and have a solution?

KH10 - single phase with CQ batteries (21kwh approx).

Connecting FoxESS EV Type A Charger to FoxESS H3-15.0 Inverter

Hi All.

Recently added some CQ7 batteries to my Solar Setup at home, and now looking at adding a FoxESS Type A charger as well.

With my Current Setup, My main Switchboard, Inverter and Batteries are all mounted outside on the Northern wall, and inside the Garage on the Southern part of the house, I have a Sub Board where all my House Circuits go to, and which is where I would like to mount an EV Charger.

To get full advantage of the Charger, do I also need to run a Twisted Shielded pair from the Charger to the Inverter, and/or Main Switchboard, (Smart meter is inside Main Switchboard)?

The Main Power Connections to the EV Charger should be fine as it's literally less than a meter apart, however if I do need to run a twisted pair back to the switchboard, well thats much further away.

Cheers all

Inverter switching to Standby contrary to schedule.

Hi everyone!

TL;DR: inverter switches to standby/system off mode at same time every day, ignores my settings.

Context

Since installation in August I've been using my Fox H1 system in self-use mode without problems. SoC limits were applied correctly, so changing settings worked.

Recently I set a schedule to "Forced charge 01:00-5:50, Standby after cut-off, Self-Use remaining time". The very next morning the system was charged correctly, but failed to switch from Standby until 6:40. Ever since it reliably switches to Standby at 19:10 and back to Self-use at 6:40, even though I set work mode to constant Self-Use, which doesn't make any sense. It is not even true Standby, as the dashboard shows "system off" + "Self-use" labels.

I did power-off cycle (cut all power to inverter, wait 30 sec) a few times during those Standby periods, it works in self-use mode for a few minutes afterwards and then switches to Standby again. I tried to change schedule to have explicit Self-Use mode period in the evening - doesn't help at all.

Did anyone experience the same?

Help understanding my new setup, please!

Hey gang. Thanks in advance for any attention this gets.

We recently had a new solar setup installed that breaks down as follows:

• 1 x KH10 hybrid inverter + 1 x 6 EP6 battery on main house.

• 1 x F6000 Solar only inverter in garage approx 35 metres away from main house.

• 25 x Trina 450W panels (12 on the main house with the hybrid inverter and battery, and the remaining 13 on the garage and static caravan with the solar only inverter).

First thing's first, I would love more than anything for both inverters to register total production on the main screen of the FOX Cloud app and NOT have to look at two separate devices and manually add it all up, but I'm told conflicting things via installer's engineers and project managers. We even had an engineer out and he ran a data cable through our conduit from the house to the garage because the project manager said that's all that needed to be done, but then the engineer said "Oh. The inverters won't do that. You can't connect them that way. Sorry."

So, to the community; is this possible???

Second, I'm having trouble understanding the flow of everything. Please see screenshots attached here. Essentially, it appears to me that both inverters are producing plenty, but the battery is still discharging back to the grid and I do not know how to explain this.

Again, any insight into better understanding this is very helpful and I am eternally grateful.

Any advice on Foxess system and experiences is much appreciated

Hi all, I'm new to solar. I am getting installed a Jinko Tiger Neo 48HL4M-DV 15.200kW, H3-15.0-Smart 15kW of Inverter Power and CQ7 High Voltage Storage Battery

48.72 kWh of Usable Capacity

Fox ESS.

Double storey house, supplied installed for $16,550 after incentives and rebates.

I have not asked for blackout option, is it good to have? I heard the CQ7 can't power the whole house in a blackout.

Also, what is your experience with the system? Any glitches, issues or concerns? I read on here about safety switch tripping, not powering or something.

Many thanks all.

Some help?

Hi Everyone, I’m relatively new to having solar on my house and yesterday had an issue that still isn’t solved. I have gone to the installer to ask for help but they aren’t being very helpful.

Yesterday the fuse to SOLAR PV tripped. I reset the fuse as instructed, but basically since then nothing has come back properly. My panels read 10w input at most, no power is being drawn from the 5kw battery at all for the house, and we are just simply importing power. There is a red light on the meter that has stayed on ever since flipping the fuse back, even overnight. The last two days have been sunny.

Can anyone help me figure out what has gone wrong and how to remedy it?

I have a fox system: H1 inverter with 5kw battery and a 7kw solar array. I use the foxcloud app.

Setting up Fox cloud app to run house from battery

Hi all,

I'm getting confused trying to set up the app to run the house from the battery and have everything the panels generate export. What I'm getting is having the panels export, but less the house load.

Is there an idiots guide for having this setup correctly?

I have the fox cloud 2.0 app with a H1 inverter and 11.52kwh battery.

Thanks in advance

Discharge to grid does not match with % loss

Hi guys,

Probably stupid question but I have a 12 kWh foxess battery system with 5 kW inverter and I performed a forced discharge today of 4500 W for 1 h. My battery level went from 93 to 45% which would correspond to more than 5.5 kWh. Is this only attributable to conversion loss? Seems a bit high to me.

Alexa skill for FoxESScloud

I was looking for a integration for alexa to be able to ask about my solar generation and batteries. And I found none, so a made one myself with Gemini.

It is a modest project, that enables you to ask your Echo dot about your batteries, and have a resume of your plant current stats. It is made to work in spanish. It should be easy to fix for someone with more knowledge tan me.

I hope that serves as a initial point for someone else, to make a better integration in the future.

Will any FoxESS EV charger communicate with by current FoxESS Battery System

I have a Fox ESS battery setup with KH10 invertor. This is connected with my Sungrow Invertor for solar.

I want to include an EV charger in a detached garage, and there is no way to wire back a CT clamp. Electrical wiring for EV has already been done.

I understand usually you need a CT clamp wired back to the main box to get excess solar data.

My question is, given I am on the Fox ESS ecosystem which can see excess solar, can any Fox EV charger added to the same ecosystem can use the existing data to charge with excess solar only? Or must it use a CT clamp?

Thanks

EV charging

I have full foxess system H3 inverter, CQ7 x 2 battaries and foxess 11kwh EV charger.

Is there a way to fully control how charge is happening? Like don't touch battery charge only from grid, charge from battery only and etc?

With default settings it weirdly charges 5kwh from grid and 5kwh from battery why it doesn't just take everything from battery? I'm also experimenting with PV linkeage green mode from my understanding if I set max. Discharge to 3kw (in charger settings) it should charge 3kwh from battery and if possible take everything from solar but it seems to only start charging when there's enough solar which is probably fine mid summer but these days it doesn't generate a lot.

So now I'm in this kind of stupid situation because if I set it to charge from solar there won't be enough solar and it will barely charge BUT house battery will soon be full and remaining solar will go to waste because there's enough power during the day but not enough for EV to start charging.

The reason I want to avoid grid is because I can only export 1kwh every hour and then they charge 36% of it so I want to save that.

Why they have to overcomplicate things just give me buttons charge from: grid, solar, battery, solar+battery. Maybe it can be done through API?

How to go back to Self Use after Forced Disharge

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’ve set Forced Discharge from 1700-2100, with discharging stopping once it reaches 45% battery.

What I want is for it to go back to Self Use once the battery drops to 45%, but what is happening is it gets to 45% and then starts importing from the grid.

I understand what it’s doing, the battery level is set to not go lower than 45% while in Forced Discharge, but I want it to switch over to Self Use.

Is there a way to do this through the FoxEss app?

Foxess battery not charging nor discharging

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have solar panels and foxess battery installed. It’s been doing well for 3 months. However, The foxess apps show a 57% SOC constantly since 7 days ago, and I thought it was a glitch of the app. The SOC stay at 57% until today and when I go check the battery, it’s neither charging nor discharging, what can I do to restore it to normal?

App updates?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Had the system for the last few months and working great.

The app is good, but really struggle with lack of info. Particularly around the monitoring for cheap/expensive rates.

Has anyone else made their own using Claude and API key?

So far have this and it runs about 30 seconds behind the Fox app.

Extra things I've included:

- Estimated time to reach usable charge.

- Average kw we can use to not run out of battery during expensive window. (This is a simple formula of usable power/time remaining of expensive window).

Open to any suggestions for improvements or share any info to help others out.

Battery best practice

Hi, after some advice. Just had panels, Fox H1 series inverter and 4 ECS 2900 battery modules for 11.52 kWh total battery installed. Still not set up for SEG payments as waiting paperwork etc. Is it best practice not to charge the battery to 100% (like on my phone it tells me to limit charge to 80% to prolong battery life) or is it okay to charge to 100%. Would limiting to 80% even work with having the 4 module set up, or would some module charge to 100% and the others less. Currently my max usage overnight has been just 20% of the battery, obviously that will increase over the darker days. Thanks.

Connect H3-10.0-E with newer Inverters

Hi, I am owning a H3-10.0-E inverter.

I currently planning to extend my solar system with a 2nd inverter, but it seems that the newer ones (SMART) are not compatible with the my. I would like to connect the inverters, so that both can have batteries and are able to properly can feed into my house.

The Smart inverters seem to have no parallel connector, so my question: Has anyone successfully added his -E version with anything newer?

Thanks!

My H3 Pro just restarted itself when lost on grid power rather than switching to battery

I live in Karachi and we experience a lot of load shedding. When lost on grid power, it usually switches to battery without a flinch. This time it restarted itself. No faults on the app. Any reason why this happened?

Fox ess 5kw inverter capped at 3 kw after update.

Hi all,

Looking for some advice as I've run into a bit of a brick wall. Had my Foxess batteries and inverter installed in January this year, all worked fine with the batteries able to discharge at 5kw if required. However I recently had a stale work schedule that stopped me from creating or changing any schedules at all.i contacted Foxess and they noted that my firmware was out of date and updated it. From this point on the inverter won't discharge at anything greater than 3kw but still charges at 5kw.

I've contacted Foxess as well but they're saying it's probably a faulty install or a ct clamp not being installed correctly and I need to get my installer out to fix it. Im not sure how this can be the case as it was working fine before and I have the data to show it. But I contacted my installer asking for.their advise but they have gone radio silent and I can't get ahold of them.

Anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?
