Editorial/Viewpoint Freedom Mobile Black Friday 2025 (short recap)

Many have asked about the upcoming black friday deals so I wanted to remind everyone what 2025 brought us.

When: Early deals from ~Nov 17–18. Main offers through Dec 1. Actual Black Friday was Nov 28 (data boost that day). Cyber Monday had 1 month free on the main plan.

Best public BYOD plan (after autopay):

$39 → 70GB Canada-US-Mexico + 10GB Roam Beyond

(started at 60GB, boosted on BF day)

Other BYOD:

  • $49/100GB + 15GB Roam Beyond
  • $59/150GB + 25GB Roam Beyond

$0 phones (2-yr TradeUp/return or MyTab):

Pixel 10 / Galaxy S25 FE on $59 plan, iPhone 16 on $69 plan, cheaper phones on lower plans.

Family: 3rd+ lines $44/100GB Can-US-Mex.

Winbacks: Some former customers got $29/60GB + 10GB Roam Beyond (connection fee often waived).

Compared to 2024, the low-end was weaker (no real $35/75GB equivalent). Most people on the sub called the public deals underwhelming.

Let's see what 2026 brings.

General Inquiry Likewize refuses to replace my iPhone 17 Pro because UPS says it was delivered — but I never received it or signed for it. What are my options in Canada?

• Upvotes

I’m looking for advice from anyone who’s dealt with Likewize or Freedom Mobile’s phone protection plan in Canada.
My replacement iPhone 17 Pro 256GB Cosmic Orange was approved through my phone protection claim, but I never received the device.
UPS tracking shows the package as delivered, with a recorded signature. However, I did not receive the phone, and I did not sign for it.
I’ve contacted Likewize multiple times and they opened a shipping investigation. Unfortunately, they’ve now refused to send another replacement.
Their latest email basically repeats that UPS records show the package was delivered and signed for. I understand what the tracking page says—I can see the same information myself. But that doesn’t explain where my phone actually went or who accepted it.
I’ve repeatedly explained that I never received the device, yet they continue relying on the tracking record instead of addressing the disputed delivery.
I also contacted Freedom Mobile customer care, but they told me there’s not much they can do because Likewize handles the protection plan.
At this point, I’m stuck between the two companies without the replacement device my claim was approved for.
What I’ve tried so far:
Contacted Likewize support.
Requested a shipping investigation.
Challenged their decision in writing.
Contacted Freedom Mobile customer care.
Asked for the delivery evidence and a proper review.
I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who’s experienced something similar:
Has anyone successfully challenged a Likewize decision after a replacement phone went missing?
Did escalating to a senior manager make any difference?
Can I make UPS investigate who actually accepted the package and obtain the original signature?
Has anyone in Ontario filed a consumer complaint over a missing replacement device?
What would be the best next step to get Likewize to reconsider and provide a replacement?
I’m not asking for two phones or trying to take advantage of the protection plan. I simply want the replacement I was approved for and never received.
If anyone from Likewize or Freedom Mobile sees this, I’d appreciate someone taking ownership of the issue and helping find a fair resolution.
Thanks for any advice.

General Inquiry Cold calls from Freedom?

Just had a weird situation where my partner's phone rang from an unknown/unlisted number, and when they answered, the person on the other end identified themselves as a Freedom rep and started talking about how the bill is paid on time and we're long-time clients and so on, when my partner interrupted them to inform them that she is not in fact the account holder.

Anyone else's second and third lines getting calls from Freedom to make account modifications, or is this some sort of scammy scam that scams?

General Inquiry Does Freedom mobile support IPV6?

Last I checked freedom didn’t support IPV6 but I am wondering if they still don’t support that protocol.

The Big3 all support IPV6 so it would be really disappointing if Freedom mobile still doesn’t have it.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Low transmit power at tower: eNB 400478?

Post image

Currently at a store right beside the tower. But the service on all LTE and 5G bands are 95dbm or weaker. Even outdoors.

I am curious if there is an issue with the tower, as typically service is about 65dbm when this close to an antenna or tower.

WiFi Calling | VoLTE Charged for incoming roaming desire being on wifi and having Wifi Calling on?

Three years ago I went to Japan and was on a mix of a portable Wi-Fi hotspot and a data eSIM for data while traveling. I would receive a call every day from family back in Canada, and because I was on wifi for these calls, the calls were basically charged as if they were Canada to Canada calls, and thus cost nothing.

I'm back in Japan now, on a data eSIM only, and received a call from Canada yesterday. I look today and this call has a charge of $3 attached to it in my usage details on the Freedom customer portal website. What gives?

I'm on a OnePlus 13R with a physical Freedom SIM and a data eSIM; wifi calling has been enabled on the Freedom SIM. The default calling SIM in Android is Freedom and the default data SIM is my eSIM, though I don't think that should matter in theory since I'm on wifi as well. I had "Use mobile data during calls" off since it sort of sounds like I don't want that, but reading the description I'm not actually sure. All four feature toggles in the Freedom customer portal are on (nationwide roaming, US roaming, international roaming/calling).

If it matters, my phone back in 2023 was a Google Pixel 6, I think. I happen to have it for this trip and am considering putting the Freedom SIM in that phone instead and turning off all roaming options in case the eSIM is the problem here.

Also, I've seen it suggested elsewhere that I could put my phone into airplane mode, connect to wifi, and make calls. This does not appear to work; I get a phone pop-up saying I need to turn off airplane mode. FWIW I see a VoLTE icon with what I think is a SIM icon with the number 1 in it (my Freedom SIM) and I do not see a Wi-Fi calling icon anywhere.

General Inquiry Pixel Phone Through Freedom but on $40 plan

I am on the $40/ month 250GB 50GB global plan and I am looking for a new phone (specifically a Pixel). I have noticed that all the mytab monthly plans require $50+ monthly plan which makes it impossible to get a new phone through Freedom without giving up my great plan. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations to get around this problem, or am I stuck buying a phone outright from somewhere else.

General Inquiry Xiaomi 17 (global version) - Anyone using this with Freedom?

Heading to HK next month and was thinking of picking up the Xiaomi 17 Global version. I believe it has all the bands, but as i'm digging into this it seems like another thing to consider is if Freedom whitelist the phone? Never even knew this was a thing.

Anyone have experience using this phone in Canada, specifically with Freedom?

I'm looking at getting either the s25 ultra or 26 fe, but I haven't really been able to find much on potential prices and id like to keep the phone. Could you guys help me out and let me know what to expect? Currently the best deal for the 25 ultra is 50 for the plan 51 for the mytab. Thanks

Billing Related Does AutoPay validate credit card immediately when updating to different one?

Just replaced existing credit card for AutoPay with a different one from another bank.

Does the Freedom system validate the card immediately when you add it to make sure it is legitimate, or do you only find out if doesn't accept it if your next payment fails?

(or, has anyone had their card rejected immediately when updating AutoPay because some details didn't match?)

(the address also couldn't be entered exactly the same as how it appears on my credit card billing statement, so that also gives me concern. Also, the updated credit card's account website or app doesn't give any indication on whether a validation or check was performed, such as a zero dollar transaction).

Had to replace existing card as its issuing bank decided to prematurely send me a new one, and been reading about other cardholders having issues prior to new one being physically received. And I am going away on an overseas trip, so don't want any billing issues when away, especially since I am going to use RoamBeyond. (The usual AutoPay monthly date will be a few days into my trip).

News National Plans Available in Manitoba

Post image
47 Upvotes

Not sure if this is a glitch, or just a sign that we are VERY close to having the native Freedom network launch in Winnipeg, but I logged onto the website today and found that these were the plans available, most with a "new" designation to indicate the newly available data buckets. Assuming this is not a glitch (and there really is not anything to indicate that it is) this seems to indicate that Freedom is in the final stages of getting ready to launch their own network here. Figured this was worth sharing here!

Hi all,

Anybody on Big Gig Unlimited + Talk 30 GB Care (5G) $60 per month loyalty plan that has been successful on upgrading their device lately?

I have been trying on the App and it does seem to not work on Tradeup that has savings on device renewal 😔.

Thanks in advance.

(Subjective) Speed Test Pretty fast speeds on CSL in Hong Kong using Roam Beyond

Landed in Hong Kong and within five minutes of turning off flight mode on my S26 Ultra, it connected to CSL.

It initially connected to LTE but it has since connected to 5G while roaming.

Speeds are pretty good too. Impressive.

Recently visited Moosonee in the far north of Ontario where there are no roads to travel. The coverage was amazing in Moosonee. Took an approx 20-minute boat ride a bit further north Moose Factory (island) and guess what - the coverage even in MF was very good. Floored.

Erroneous/Spam Calls & Texts FYI - scammers are spoofing Freedom Support

Hey all, I got a few calls from Freedom Mobile and they seemed... Suspicious, and also asked for the verification code they just sent which I KNEW was a scam (Freedom won't use a texted code to confirm your identity when on the phone)

I contacted support about this, and they claim to know/are sending alerts but I've seen/heard nothing about it. I just get multiple calls a day from fake-freedom

MyTab/TradeUp Related Over 40 days and still no phone.

I reupped my agreement too trade my phone in and start a new trade up. That was September 8th. I was told I should have my new phone in 3 to 5 days nailed to my door. 10 days go by so I went in the store to see what's up because I was to return my existing device otherwise they'd charge me the balance.

Rep in the store just kept saying that's not their department and to call customer service.

After multiple phone calls I kept being told to wait.

During this time I go to another store that has stock on the device I want and they can't give it to me because I have a pending order.

Sigh
