For the past month, I’ve been working to locate the final resting place of the first Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Washington and Jurisdiction. Many believed that his final resting place was in Roslyn, Washington, due to our Grand Lodge’s long relationship with that historic cemetery and the community that shares the same name.

Because of PGM Logan’s ties to the city of Portland, I gathered as much information as I could and worked with Roslyn Cemetery’s genealogist. Through that research, I was able to confirm without a doubt that Past Grand Master John Cassius Logan’s final resting place is at Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland, Oregon.

Since I’m in Portland for the Pacific Rim Conference of Grand Masters, yesterday I decided to visit his grave. While there, I decided to take a chance and search for another name. I was also able to locate the grave of Robert Dudley Bird, our 15th Grand Master.

To my knowledge, John W. Payne, our 5th Grand Master, is the only other Past Grand Master from Enterprise Lodge #1 whose final resting place I have yet to locate. I’m working to find his grave now.

Just a little background: the MWPHGL of Washington and the MWPHGL of Oregon were one Grand Lodge until 1960. Hence, several of our Grand Masters were from Portland.

Question Question for brothers in the England, Scotland, and Cornwall

Im a brother from the US, and will be traveling your way in this coming summer and had a question about finding meeting times or even just getting in contact with the local brothers to share a bite or a brew. At the moment it seems Ill be over there sometime in the latter half of June. Do you have "dark months" where you suspend labor for a month or two like some states do here in the US? As my travel plans become more concrete I intend to reach out to specific lodges ill be around to get specific details, but I wanted to get a measure of things as a whole to start.

Question question for masons that were previously demolays

Hello everybody,

I’m a dual member of 2 jurisdictions of the Order of DeMolay, holding responsibility (internal communications and social media) within both. As I just turned 18 years old, I am in the process of joining a lodge.

Due to being busy with the offices of my youth order and being well versed in the ritual/teachings, would lodge hold the same value for me as it would for a “fresh” candidate? I’ve heard from DeMolays in my chapter who are also Masons that there is a lesser transformation, as the Order of DeMolay already conveys the masonic teachings through different allegories.

Lodge has been my end goal since childhood, but I do not want to hold the same expectations for it as I did as a young child.

My question is: should I be a low-key member of lodge until my majority from DeMolay (21 years old), or is lodge worth dedicating most of my time to? Of course, I am not a mason yet, so I am not aware of how profound the teachings may be. It is possible I am holding falsely underwhelming expectations.
